“It was just a minor attack. We'll keep him overnight, but he should be able to go home tomorrow.” Relieved expressions set over the faces of Mr. and Mrs. Hamasaki as Dr. Oster relayed them the news of their son's condition. Earlier in the evening and without warning, Mizu had begun gasping for air. His parents had immediately rushed him to the hospital, fearing the worst for him. Luckily, a medicine had been administered upon arrival, and the boy's breathing had returned to normal. Now, they just wanted to make sure that he'd be alright before they sent him home.
“If he starts having trouble again, just press the call button, and we'll be here ASAP.”

“Thank you, Doctor.” Naoki said, and Dr. Oster nodded before leaving the room to give the family some privacy. Soon, Mizu's parents were sitting on the end of the bed, – one on each side of the bed – fussing over their son.

“I'll bet it was because we left that window open last night; something must have gotten in.” Yua mentioned as she reached over to fix her son's hair. “We'll make sure not to do that from now on. We don't want this happening to you again...”

“But...having the window open has never bothered me before...” The boy liked having his window open at night; it was the closest thing he got to fresh air, since he was almost always inside. The breeze was always nice, and it was definitely something that he'd miss.
Unfortunately, his mother and father didn't seem to want to risk that possibility.

“That may be, but we want to be sure.” And that was the end of the conversation. His parents stayed until visiting hours were over before wishing him a good night and promising that they'd be back tomorrow. That night, he asked the nurse if she could leave the window in his room open for the night; he figured that this might be the last time that he'd get the chance to have it that way.

However, a rather strange event took place sometime during the night. It was at about two o'clock in the morning when Mizu was woken by the sound of an explosion that had gone off somewhere outside. Needless to say, the boy was rather confused, and it didn't take long before he could hear sirens heading towards the spot. Curious, the impling boy got up to go look out his window, wanting to see what all the commotion was.
What he wasn't expecting was to have a small, black form fly at his face just as he'd been about to peek outside. The young teen yelped and ducked as the little figure zoomed past his head and made a crash-landing on his bed. For a moment, Mizu stared on in shock before he finally made his way over to the spot, wanting to see what, exactly, the thing was. As he drew closer, the boy saw that it appeared to be a small, black creature with wings; it also appeared to be wearing a little red hat and scarf of some kind.

It was kind of cute, actually.

The little thing suddenly sat up and turned to look at Mizu, staring at the boy with an unreadable expression. This continued on for a few moments until...
“La!” The little creature seemed to smile before fluttering over closer to the boy. “La, la!” It almost sounded as though the little one were trying to sing. However, Mizu couldn't worry about that now; he had to hide the creature. He could hear someone coming down a hall; probably one of the night nurses, coming to check on him...

Mizu didn't know how long he'd begged his parents to let him keep the little shadow - to him, it had felt like hours. For a while, they'd refused to budge, saying that they didn't know what it was and that it might be dangerous. It was only after the doctor had suggested that having the little creature around might be good for Mizu's health that they finally relented, allowing the shadow to stay. That had been about a day ago; now, Mizu was back in his room, reading a book while his new friend sat next to him, munching on a cheesy poof - apparently, he liked those.

The sickly boy's mind wasn't into the story for once, however; in his head, he was thinking of names. His new family member needed a name, after all. Marking his page, the teenager closed his book before turning his attention to the little creature.
"I need something to call you." He smiled, patting the little creature's head. "Any ideas?"

"La?" The shadow looked up after eating another cheesy poof and Mizu chuckled. He probably wouldn't be getting any answers from the little creature, so he'd have to think of one himself.

"Dai maybe...Roku...Shino..." A thought crossed his mind suddenly, and he smiled. "How about Kouki? Does Kouki sound alright to you?" The shadow chirped, his small wings flapping slightly, and Mizu's smile widened. "Kouki-kun it is then."
