Jazzy Synchron Everyone starts off in this game somewhere. I was influenced by my older brother to play when he watched the television show, and brought home his favorite card M-Warrior #2, many years back. I purchased the Kaiba and Yugi starter decks, slapped them together, and played with my family all the time. I didn't know the rules, and did ridiculous things, such as the Duelist Kingdom season where no monsters required tribute. I played monsters in face-down attack, Traps like they were any Spell card, and thought destroying a card meant stopping it from working. It wasn't until later on that I had a grasp of the rulings, the forbidden list, and the role of several different card types, and it wasn't until 2 years ago that I got into competitive dueling. So, I'm interested. How did you all start? exactly how i got into it.

Back when they were promoting the Yu-Gi-Oh anime on Kids! WB and before the TCG was released, I thought the commercial for the contest they held (where you could win an entire set of LOB, a set of Kaiba/Yugi starters or one of 5,000 cards) was cool, so I went online and entered. Then, I sorta forgot that I entered until about 3 weeks later when I got a Summoned Skull (it was unusual in that it had no silver square in the corner and was made with the same material that Japanese cards used) in the mail. After that, I bought Dark Duel Stories and added the Blue-Eyes, Exodia head and Dark Magician to my 4-card collection.
Since those cards were so cool to me, I bought both the starters when the TCG was finally released and started playing with my brother and some kids from school who started after I brought my cards to lunch. Our playing experience then pretty much mirrored what Jazzy described. Built a Dark Magician/Spellcaster beatdown deck (with a Guardian Sphinx thrown in since I liked the effect).
Then, about 4 years ago right after I started college, I finally got around to playing competitively after reading loads of Metagame.com material and getting a paycheck to build competitive stuff.

My cousin and his constant taunting of, "hurry up and get cards so I can beat you". So I proceeded to get cards, didn't know a lick of s**t about the rules and played by using the monsters' Atk points as HP and being allowed to attack and destroy spells and traps.. XDDDD ..stopped playing my cousin but continued learning the game and gradually improving, came back and challenged my cousin, and schooled his a**.. rofl

Let me set you free ...My friends and me used to love the show, so one day one of my friends got Kaiba's starter, after that we all bought our own starters and played in school's library xd There was a point in which a lot of tables were used only to duel and obviously banned in the entire school I remember the principal took half of my deck back then D: I still remember we had like our signature cards whee Some of them left it, some others cotinued it I quit it for a while when I started college, but took it again now that I finished it ^^ ... With a Serpent's kiss.

Ah the good ole starter story, well my friends had a bunch of cards when we were little they'd shuffle them up then deal out them til they equal. light beats dark, ddark beats thunder? i don't know but you get the point and who ever got frozen soul, would automaticly defeat one opponent and if you got pineapple blast you defeat another one and so on then at a local go cart/arcade/mini golf place they had a claw machine with yugioh cards, pokemon, and magic I got my first three cards 1)A legendary ocean 2)Deal of phantom 3)Dark magician (yeah ikr?) then my bro got into it and my parents bought us both a starter deck, i'd been watching the anime and picked yugi, my bro had to and he picked joey so that's how it all began... not competitive since never, always competing with my friends none of my friends have quit yet nor have i
