Before Ignacio could get up and get himself a cone, Melody was already offering him a cone of chocolate chip and mint. The light green and darker brown combination made Ignacio grin from ear to ear, and he snatched the ice cream right up as soon as it was presented to him. With a thankful nod, he set right to eating it.

Admittedly, while Ignacio had seemed to grow apart from Melody, he also grew apart from everyone else. He was too far in his own little world where he had decided that everyone was flowers and peaches, and like he always was and always would be, he was fine. Perhaps not confronting his own emotions had damaged him much more than anything else could have possibly done, and perhaps that was why he was acting so strangely. No matter what the answer to that question was, though, one thing was clear:

Ignacio wasn't being very clear about what his problem was.

Silently, the man just kept licking at his ice cream, eyes wandering every which way as he did so. Sometimes, his eyes were focused on the ice cream. Sometimes, his eyes were focused on the table. On the ceiling. On the door. On the counter. On a waitress. On a host. On the couple that had entered and the large cheesecake they had gotten themselves. And finally, lastly, on Melody Klein herself.

For a few moments, Ignacio quietly stared, tilting his head at her before resuming eating his cone. But as he stared at his cone, he stated, "Sorry I lied." That seemed to be the best his mind could come up with, because soon he was looking elsewhere again.

Something was definitely wrong.

Glad that he had taken it, and she had been right to remember, she sat down and began eating her cheesecake in that very prim manner her mother had forced upon her. Something she doubted she'd ever get rid of unless Ignacio started a food fight. She doubted he'd do such a thing here.

With him silent and his gaze everywhere, she didn't dare ruin it and possibly say something she shouldn't for fear of him running off. If he was going to confide in her, like old times, he had to start something otherwise he was rather obstinate about being just fine and dandy.

When he spoke she looked up, brown blinking in surprise. Then a smile formed and she shook her head. "You had your reasons, I'm sure. You don't lie to me with out reason." Another bite of her cheesecake, eyes closing a moment. "I'm not mad at you, I've just been worried."

A pause to frown. "Your mother and sister are worried sick..."

He was only vaguely listening as she chose to reply to him. His eyes were focused intensely on a small drip that was falling from the mound of ice cream onto the cone, and slowly towards his hand before he lashed his tongue out to lick it up. The giggle he gave in response to his own actions came mid-sentence when Melody was talking seriously, but of course, that wouldn't've been the first time that he thought of something funny while someone else was talking.

It was just the first time in a while that he purposely acted ridiculous when someone important to him wanted his attention. It was only after Melody mentioned his sister that he managed to get his eyes off the dripping ice cream cone again, even if he began to lick some more of it.

He was silent for a few moments, before shaking his head. "I can't go back. Not... not now. I'm not going back. Tell them I'm alright, but I'm not going. I'm fine. Absolutely fine. Immortal as I always was and always will be. We're survivors, remember?" Ignacio offered a vague grin, and then his eyes were elsewhere again. That was probably the most cohesive string of thoughts she had heard him put together, but it seemed that Ignacio was not inclined to continue them.

Instead, he would point up to the ceiling and observe, "There's got to be thousands of little dots in that panel. I'm going to count them. One... two... three... four... Okay I'm bored. Ice cream!" Like a little kid, Ignacio's attention was back on his ice cream and the amounts of it he was licking off of his finges.

Pitiful, really.

"Why can't you go back?" she argued, unable to stop herself from replying though it was probably useless. "Ignacio you're being stupid!"

Blurting out things with out thinking wasn't Melody's style, but gosh darn it all he was being absolutely ridiculous and there was no call for it! His family was worried, even if he was alive and well they were so horribly worried and it was his fault.

"Even survivors can fall, Ignacio. We aren't immortal, we'll never be immortal." She was finding that out first hand with the over abundance of youma fights and the bruises and pain that came with them. "Life hurts, it always will, but you can't just go on pretending that it's sunshine and rainbows no matter how hard you try. But that's what friends and family is for."

Ignacio reeled in surprise when Melody snapped at him. Sure, Ignacio may have been out of it almost completely, but hearing his little sister (in spirit) suddenly burst out in a way unfamiliar was, well, unfamiliar. He could only find himself staring in response, blinking a couple times as she continued to scold him for claiming they were immortal. Life hurt. Yeah, he knew that. Ignacio was aware of that, but it was better not to think of those things. Better not to get involved. Better not to think of it too much or it would hurt even more because he knew it was going to happen.

None of that was said, though. Instead, Ignacio continued to stare at her, before resuming eating his ice cream. If anything, that didn't seem to be the way to get anything out of him, though it was hard to tell if he was just distracted again or if he was legitimately angry.. With the way he focused on the dripping of the ice cream, it would seem he was distracted, but then he bit the ice cream.

That gave him an epic brain-freeze, of course, but while he was pursing his lips from the cold he muttered a couple of unusual curses under his breath. Ignacio usually didn't bother cursing; he found it an unnecessary use of language. Unless he was in the mood for cursing. But, moreso, unless he was upset... and Ignacio was obviously upset.

And finally, he spoke. "I know survivors can fall. That's why Grayson is dead, and that's why I still continue to sit here on this planet." Finding out that Lucas Hendricks had been dead upon waking up in the hospital was hard. Very hard. Yet, at the same time, all of the good news of people who survived was enough to override the sadness and just leave him with a generally bittersweet feeling that he soon overcame. Losing someone that close to him, who was willing to take him in when he was hitting rock bottom, with no real counter-balance?

No, Ignacio wasn't dealing well with that.

"Can I go now?"

She flinched. Not at his silence, she didn't usually scold him so silence was understandable. Not when he cursed, because she expected anger out of him at some point.

No, she flinched at his reply concerning Grayson being dead. Grayson was a name that felt familiar but she had never dwelled too much on it because she hadn't met him and it didn't matter so much to find out who he was. All she cared about was that her brother cared for him and now he was gone while he had to pick up the pieces of himself.

"No," she murmured as she reached a hand out for his. "Ignacio I don't think being alone is good for you right now."

Grayson wouldn't have been the only one to take him in and care for him, all he had to do was ask and she'd have done the same damn thing for him. She'd clean his messes up for him no matter what as long as he was alive and safe. The problem was...

He had never asked her.

Melody may have attempted to take his hand, but he drew it back to himself before she could. Instead of responding to her remark that being alone wasn't good for him, he worked on eating the rest of his ice cream cone in absolute silence. For someone who spent almost all of his time talking, even when he wasn't completely out of sorts, the continued silence may have been more eerie than the fact that he was out of sorts itself. The only way he broke it was by biting down on the cone when there was enough ice cream gone for it to be eaten.

Still, he wasn't getting up and leaving yet. No, he was just popping the remainder of the cone in his mouth and roughly wiping his hands with the napkins kept at the side of the table. Ignacio practically threw the napkin down on the table, before leaning his head forward and running his hands through his hair.

Getting attached was a bad idea. He knew that. Why did he get attached in the first place then, and why did he still care? It was that part that was frustrating. It happened with Lucas, and then it happened, even worse, with Grayson. Hopefully Melody wasn't next. Ignacio glanced up at Melody and quietly cursed to himself again, before looking back down. This was depressing. He needed to think on something else. Like going to the store. Right. He needed to restock some food. Get some ramen for his dinner. Maybe he could get some of that shrimp ramen; that always tasted good.

He wished they sold all the ingredients for saimin in a styrofoam cup too, though. No matter! He would buy some chives! And maybe he could go to the pet store and get himself a kitty. He'd need kitty litter too, and perhaps a small television. He lacked something to watch comedy with after all. A television would solve that!

"I'm going to the store," finally said Ignacio, as he got up and headed towards the door.

Another flinch as he pulled his hand away, her hand moving to fall back against her leg and rest on the booth seat. She'd really done it this time, she scolded herself as they sat in silence. She'd butted too far into his problems and probably assumed things when she shouldn't have.

Damn it, this was stupid. He was being stupid. If he'd just talk about things instead of insisting he was fine. If he'd only had called her and trusted her when things got bad he wouldn't be in this mess. Stupid Ignacio, making her want to cry.

When his voice spoke up, feeling a little too loud on her end, Melody looked up and watched him head to the door. "D-do you want company?" she managed out around the feeling of self-loathing and shame, because it really was her fault he was mad. And she wasn't expecting him to say yes.

He almost missed that she was speaking with him, with the way he was determined to get his legs out the door. Still, he heard her, and glanced over his shoulder to look at her face. Melody looked utterly defeated, and Ignacio hated seeing that look on his little sister's face. Still, he was fine, and if everyone else around him had died, who was to say she was safe? Ignacio shook his head, turning around and heading back towards the door again.

"Not right now. Sorry." With that being said, Ignacio opened up the door and headed out, quickly veering towards the direction he thought he remembered the nearest store being in. After a couple moments of walking that way, he twirled around and begun to walk the other way, realizing he was heading the wrong way if he wanted to get to the outdoor market.

He didn't really want to leave her, but she was wrong. He was fine, absolutely fine. Right? Right. There was plenty of other things to do but dwell on the past anyway, like she wanted to do! He could get himself a dog, or some fish for dinner, or maybe he could go tip the man over there who was playing a saxophone for money. Life went on as it always would. Ignacio was confident in that much.

Like he was confident in everything.
