Harder than I Thought
Solo, Word Count: 1101

On the third month of school Glen could safely say, cooking was ******** hard.In Hillworth, before the 'event' as he called it, Glen had been torn between stepping over into the world of Senshi, by perhaps just getting a full time job for a year or half a year, and seeing where that took him,(and admittedly, he wanted those wings he noticed other senshi had whenever he took patrols) or becoming a policeman, and taking a temporary hiatus from senshidom until he completed his stay and would then come back, and begin to balance helping the senshi in his civilian and his senshi life. And never mind he was still dealing with certain issues that had landed him in Hillworth, that he finally acknowledged the reasons he landed there, worked on his grades and actually talked with his parents, and besides not telling them that part, he had begun to find a balance between his other life and his current high school life, even made a friend in that life, the dreams/not really dreams had happened and caused him to see...just see every ******** thing. Deaths he feared, a life on the run, a miserable life of silence with only one bright spot in it, and even towards that blissful end that had been taken away too, Glen discovered after all of that what it really meant to be ******** up, and that also well...

Being a policeman AND a senshi would really not work.

It wasn't that he was a policeman in that future, that time seemed on the brink of lawlessness, of destitution, law would save noone there, and he was also a vagabond with an ugly scar and a pseudohusband. No, it was that he really didn't think he could handle the bloodshed in and out of both lives. So he thought, and in his months of near seclusion and depression, where he only went to school and never looked at anyone (worrying the hell out of his parents), he decided maybe, he would still go to school, but, do something else he was good at, and while movies were something he liked, and podcasted about, they werent something he'd want to do the rest of his life. The same with debate, in a school where the debates had almost exploded into full out brawls on a few occasions Glen had been burnt on those very quickly. So it just happened that he realized there was something he could go to school for: Cooking, and he loved cooking. Not like, obsessively, but he loved enough where he had begun experimenting with flavors. So he took up cooking again, and talked with his parents to make sure this was an okay thing to pursue, relationships between him and them were still strained, and had relaxed until his, to them, mysterious depression, so he had to make sure they wouldn't mind, and was relieved (then sort of overwhelemed) when his parents, even his stoic mom, embraced him and told him it was okay, and that he shouldn't have worried.**

So, much more excited than he had been in a long time, he applied and got into the local college for cooking, and figured you know, if he was good enough he'd go to a full on university with a specialty towards cuisine, and if not he'd graduate, get a job somewhere in Destiny and work on his cooking.
By this month, he was seriously reevaluating that plan. He hadn't, naively and he assumed like alot of other people, thought cooking would be easy, he dd it all the time, and while they provided the ingredients, and while it was half papers and such like any other course, it was also grueling, time focused work on cooking several of the same dish and hoping to the cosmos they came out right exactly right. Three times now Glen had been in tears, and it didn't help he was starting to stop compartmentalizing what he deemed 'the gay elephant' that made itself known after his rough times. These two things wouldn't normally combine into a problem if it hadn't been for that one little fact that every guy in his class (10, he was kind of surprised, but he did see alot of cooking shows with men so whatever), had a nice butt and that he never really did pay attention to women and this was all too much for someone who was still trying to figure out how he could be a senshi and do this, he didn't have time for hormones, it all combined caused him to recieve a D on two pieces of work. (it occured to him much later, in class, this was all repressed yet again, because of the isues that landed him in Hillworth and that he played the game of 'Can't check them out, don't check them out)
Two, TWO!?!? He could admit it, Glen was a huge stickler for his grades, and while okay with a B, a C or D would cause him to flip. And flip he did, which brought him to this Sunday, where he dragged himself out at two in the morning to gather some ingredients for thanksgiving and the beginning of his practical midterm; a holiday log. He had, despite his moms protesting, taken thanksgiving dinner hostage. He didn't, couldn't really tell them, but he wanted to not think again, and cooking was a good distraction. And yeah, he knew the school covered expenses for goods but this holiday log was probably just going to be a side project that he had begun to wonder if he could use his final year of school.

He bought the supplies, the turkey, the stuffing and spices and the necessary ingredients for his log and the other various foods of thanksgiving, and made his way home. And, though it actualy did pain him to ignore, he heard the cries of what appeard to be a patrol gone wrong. He knew it was bad, he knew it wasn't healthy to ignore it, but he did, knowing he did because at this point, he just couldnt handle the helpless feeling he got only being able to give a small power boost, and then sag on the ground, damned if he did or damned if he didn't, he was useless. Boy, he realized, he didn't think too highly of himself.
He walked down, head down and groceries clutched just a bit tighter in his arm, with alot more to think about than the turkey pulling his left arm out of socket.
**(i saw like, zero room to fit it in, his parents had a college fund set up for him years ago that would cover 4 years and two extra if he needed, if not the money was his)
