It was... an imp? An imp with huge, watery eyes and one extremely large, swollen foot, a thorn protruding from the flesh. It held its foot up and out towards Malodore in mute pleading.
Now this was a challenge the plague doctor could meet. Nodding to the imp, Malodore dropped to one knee and produced a slim set of tweezers from its sleeve. It was fine, fiddly work given the imp's small size, but Malodore had done such things many times before. With a firm pinch and flick the thorn was removed, tossed into the hedges.
Malodore wanted to bandage it, but the imp tugged the limb out of its fingers and bowed to it before leaping into the hedge itself. Huh.

Ms. Professor Lady had said something about mazes and tests and yummies in the center of it all. Gargantuan wasn't one for understanding, much less appreciating, the value a maze could hold, and eagerly set off to finding whatever delicious treat lay in the center. It didn't take long before he heard the sound of crying and squealing, and as he rounded the corner, there was a small creature.
Oh...? The swamp monster stared at the tiny imp for a moment--and was disappointed when it actually started to talk at him, rather than just whine. He'd been kinda of hungry... but it didn't take him long to understand the situation, and with a rumble, he did what he could to pull the splinter free.
The imp bit him for being ungentle.
Unhappy that his labors hadn't been received fairly well, Gargantuan slunk off further into the maze. Maybe there'd be nicer, yummier things inside...

Malodore proceeded deeper into the maze, swiveling its head from side to side as it tracked odd noises echoing all around it. The vaguely threatening sounds were so distracting that the plague doctor walked right into the next obstacle - a large boulder - beak-first.
Upon hearing Malodore's swearing, the 'boulder' shifted, opening wide gem-like eyes to peer at the plague doctor with wary interest. "Tell us a story," it boomed, "and use lots of those interesting words."
Nonplussed, Malodore opened its stinging beak. "Il mio nome รจ Malodore, e sono entrato in questo dannato labirinto per una classe. Vado a scuola appena fuori, dove sto imparando ad essere un medico. E proprio ora il mio naso fa veramente male, Jack-dannazione."
It blinked at him, slowly, then shuffled aside. "Pass."

Quote: Roll 2- If you roll a 26-100, you pass and can go on to round three. (RP meeting the below obstacle) Awwh you made it past the little imp with no troubles! You should feel high on life (even if your hearing weird noises all around you that sound like things that want to eat you.) Walking further along something blocks your pathway. It is large and...reminds you oddly of some huge stoney bolder. Only this one moves. It tells you that in order to get past you need to tell it a story or a riddle.. and if it approves it will let you pass. The imp safe, Hadiyya continued through the maze. Turning this way and that, more on impulse then anything more strategic. Perhaps she should have been concerned about getting lost which, all things considered, was a very likely possibility, but she simply didn't have the energy to get all worked up over it. She'd find her way out eventually, probably. Turning another corner, the marid found herself face to face with a giant.. boulder? One that appeared to be breathing. Not a boulder.. A talking not-a-boulder. She blinked up at the mammoth thing curiously, dark brows arching. "A story or a riddle?" What an odd request, but perhaps she was on the right path. Sadly, the poor ghoul seemed to be blanking on stories, and the only riddle she could recall off the top of her had was crass and terribly lame. "What do you call man with no arms and no legs floating water?" She paused a moment, letting the not-a-boulder think about the question. When it shrugged(at least she thought it shrugged), she delivered the punchline. "Bob." Terrible, it w terrible! But it worked! The not-a-boulder started laughing, much to Yaya's surprise, and moved a bit so she could slip past it.

A few minutes after passing the boulder-creature, Malodore heard a noise that made a chill run down even its undead spine, the heavy, slobbering breathing speaking to a gut instinct.
The gut instinct said run.
Malodore obeyed - Candlejack! The beast was right behind it!
The maze turned into a terrifying blur of twisting passages. Malodore whomped into multiple hedges before it found the exit. Thankfully, the beast did not chase it out of the maze, but it could hear the creature slobbering and growling just inside.
Well. That hadn't gone well.

Quote: Roll 3- If you roll a 51-100, you pass and can go on to round four. (RP meeting the below obstacle) You hear a deep rumbling growl of something near you. It sounds as if the noise is in the pathway next to you... but after pausing and holding your breath, you can somehow tell the creature has sensed you and is looking for a way to get over to you. A flash of white and red through the foliage of the maze tells you its something large... and mean. She'd not gone more then a few yards past the not-a-boulder when a sound off to the side demanded her attention. It was a growling, menacing sort of snarl, and it danced a chill up the water djinn's spine. She froze, breath catching in her throat. Maybe if she were very very qui- Nope, those were some seriously scary eyes peeking through the foliage. Now, as a general rule, Hadiyya did not run, but there were always exceptions to the rules. A snarling, blood thirsty mystery beast chasing after her was a wonderful example of such. She hicked up her skirts, and she bolted deeper into the maze. Running until the sounds of vicious pursuit faded.

Blocked...? It certainly looked like it. He hadn't encountered anything after his run-in with the imp, and Gargantuan had been feeling rather hopeful. Maybe the delicious thing was coming up soon! ...Maybe it was this giant rock!
Before he could think of licking the thing just for experiment's sake, it growled at him, mumbling something about 'progress' and 'riddle' and 'story'.
Nonplussed, G thought hard for a moment. "G tried in play. Don't wanna chop up Sandy Claws." He finally said, beaming slightly. That was a good story!
The boulder was silent for a long, long time. It finally shifted aside--probably out of pity.
Yaaaaaay! G had to fight to squeeze through, but he managed. Mazes were fun!

A low, pulsing growl suddenly had G's fins quivering uneasily. Oh, oh, oh. While a swamp beast had no natural predators, Gargantuan understood very well when something wanted to see if he was tasty.
Something was stalking him on the other side of the maze, and he could catch glimpses of the thing through the hedges. Uneasy now, the big monster began to slowly back away--only to half-squeak, half-roar as whatever it was hopped straight over and onto his path!
Terrified, he tore through the maze, back the way he'd came, and it was the boulder-beast that managed to stop the red and white monster, at least temporarily. Still, G didn't stop running until he was out of there.
He probably cried about it later, but was soon distracted by the prospect of juicy frogs. There'd be another day to try for the delicious maze-prize.

Tsetsiliya nervously eyed the maze and fiddled with her belt. What had possessed her to want to attempt something like this? This "be more courageous" routine was something she was still adjusting to, and as she regarded the maze warily, she debated turning back. If she didn't try though, how would she know if she'd fail?
Time and experience, she thought with a frown. But she had decided when she entered Amityville that it was high time to rid herself of her normal defeatist attitude. This was a class like any other! If she could do other classes, then by Jack she could do this one!
With a deep breath and her jaw set in determination (which quickly faltered when she thought she heard something within the depths of the maze), she approached.

Quote: Roll 4- If you roll a 76-100, you WIN. (RP meeting the below obstacle, roll a 6 sided die on this post so i can see which scareon you win) FINALLY! You made it to the end and you can see the little purple ball things sitting in a large metal bucket at the heart of the maze. A animal skin with a horse skull is sitting next to it... strange, but you take it as decor. As you approach though... you hear a whistling sound and suddenly feel like your being watched. Closer you go... as you try and reach out for one of the prizes, the horse head and skin somehow disappear... and behind you is a LARGE and angry ghost horse staring at you with large glowing green eyes. Rearing backwards it charges as you. Finally! Finally she had made it! She could see the heart of the maze, the bucket of purple balls there in the middle. So tantalizingly close. Surely they were a prize for those lucky few that manage to make it though the labyrinth. They were so close she could taste them. Eagerly she inched closer, wary now from the chase of the mystery beast that had only moments ago been so hot on her heels. The whistling made her pause, but she was too close to stop now.. Her fingers were inches away from the tempting little mini balls. So close.. The head and skin vanished from beside the bucket. "Oh candlejack.." Blindly she snatched a ball from the bucket, turning to find that pelt and skull hand't really vanished, so much as became an animated, angry looking ghost horse. She didn't even wait to see if it was as angry as it seemed. She ran, for the second time that afternoon. Always out of the maze! ((Glee!))

It's not that Barth didn't like pets.
Somewhere in his black, wiggly soul he liked having them. He had a long history of pet ownership, and a wake of starved, neglected, lost (for the smart ones) and otherwise dead results. In light of his personal experience, he didn't think Creature Feature 101 could be very hard. You just...owned a pet, and sort of let it run around until it disappeared or came back to angrily haunt you.
He wasn't expecting the maze, though.
At least it wasn't more paperwork. He hoped the maze wasn't a long one.
Maybe it would be one short, straight line to confetti and a passing grade.

Sin had been to quite a few odd classes, the fact that she had a pumpkin child to care for was a testament to the strange things the professors had come up with as homework. When she saw the maze however she felt her stomach sink a little. It looked...well it looked sort of dangerous to be honest. It wasn't that she wasn't up to the challenge but between fearleading practice, her trips to Breck's shed, and running around to get to class on time she would have liked a class where she could just...relax. She blew out a soft puff of air and then warily approached the maze, maybe if she was lucky there would only be cute familiar critters inside....yeah right.

Sin looked around as she walked into the maze and then froze as she heard a whining sound. Slowly she walked around the corner and spotted something green making the noise. She quickly darted back not wanting to be seen just yet. Okay think Sin, think! It had been small and the sound it was making wasn't one of aggression. Right okay, slowly she slipped back around the corner and relaxed a bit when she saw an injured whining imp on the ground. It actually looked pretty pathetic, thin and tiny and making that sound...she eyed it a bit closer.
Ahh that was the problem, a splinter, and a rather nasty looking one at that was in it's foot. Should she help or thank her luck that the creature was injured and unable to do anything nasty to her? She slowly walked over and crouched beside it warily starting to reach out her hand.
"Hey...I'm gonna get this out so...don't bite me or anything." She gave it a hard steady glare hoping she could intimidate it. Then slowly she took the imps foot and with her nails she pulled the splinter out. As soon as the task was done the creature an and Sin looked around brushing her hands off and continuing.

Sin liked to think she didn't spook easily but the sounds that this maze made well...they gave her pause. It sounded like the deeper in she went the more dangerous things got. At least she had helped that imp, maybe it would spread the word and everything would leave her alone...fat chance. She huffed and then stopped in confusion as she reached a boulder blocking the way. Had she hit a dead end in the maze, and here she had thought she was doing so well. She sighed about to turn and try another route when the boulder spoke and moved.
Talking rocks that wanted her to tell them riddles? She snorted a bit and then sighed and thought for a moment. Riddles...riddles...ah yes there was one she was pretty confident of.
"What animal begins it's life on four legs, then moves on two, and ends it's life needing three?" It seemed she had stumped the rock because it moved enough to let her get by.
"It's human beings, they crawl as babies, then walk on two legs, but when they are old they use a stick as their third leg." She darted past and gave a quick sigh of relief.

As the poludnica had approached the maze and made to step within its walls, the noise from within startled her even more. Her battle with nerves lost, she turned and fled without looking back.
Courageous? Surely she'd need more time to prepare herself to attempt this again.
