"Give him a chance, chap." Charles said, poised beside Neros. He would be sipping tea at the event, but has no need to, and would only waste it if he tried. Instead, he just stood in wait. Charles was a master of that. And Chess. Of course, the two pretty much go hand in hand. He couldn't snap his fingers anymore; this thought just occured to him.

Heath was somewhere behind Charles, not even knowing about it. He was trying to get a good spot but the people were being so unmanageable. "Sir, could I please get past you?" he asked a portly man. His reply, less kosher, kind of fell onto Heath, "I blon't thbink you gbet it, buffoon." At this point, he didn't care if he got it or not, he was about to slap him with his dagger. Or jump over him. That was an idea, but he was so large. Admittedly, it was better with no conflict, and it was resolved by finding another way.

It just so happened that Charles has caused a circumference of space around him since he was so ghastly, and Heath jumped for it, not even questioning that it's a zombie. It also turned out it wasn't a half-bad spot, with nice real estate. Then he noticed Charles.

He kept his mouth shut on this one.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Rath was not used to being tapped on the shoulder. When he felt it, he stopped and jerked his head just enough to see who it was. "...Susan."

The sight of his daughter forced Rath's tension to ease, if only a little. She was growing so quickly and taking on so many responsibilities on her own accord. It did Rath well to see that, for the most part, her childhood had been much better than his. She managed to smile even in the times of uncertainty. Sue was becoming just like her...

He turned around to face his daughter and managed to sprout a grin. Sue may have seen the emptiness in his face from before he turned, but Rath did not wish for her to have to be exposed to his worries. He had not grinned in a long while, but somehow Sue made it easier. Rath shook his head as Sue offered him some tea. "No... I'm afraid I've lost my appeal for it, as of late."

Eyes lingered to the side, then came back to look at Sue. There were times when Rath had to put his troubles aside and focus on more important things. He would probably not be known as the best father, and did feel guilty for that, but Sue was sure to feel apprehension or worry from current events. A simple talk could make her feel better. That was a father's duty. "So how are you? We haven't spoken since you returned from the plains... I apologize."

Perhaps Roy did misunderstand Isadora. Perhaps he didn't. Nevertheless, she explained what she had meant. He frowned.

"Hey...you can't blame Rath for all that. There are some things even a leader can't prevent. All these occurrences happened outside of his control. It can't be helped we have enemies. If the nobles had helped a little instead of leaving all the work to Rath, a lot of those incidents could have been resolved a lot faster. The nobles want to blame someone? Blame themselves for their uselessness." he said coldly. "I fear for the future of Learania in the hands on this boy."

He then listened to Isadora shoot down his theory on the birthmark and sighed. "Is that so...Rogvald is supposedly also from a noble house that currently doesn't exist in Learania in this day and age, correct? Perhaps there were documents that mentioned the birthmark or something. And besides...didn't Leander show up one winter a year or two ago? Anyone who saw him could probably confirm and/or replicate the birthmark." he said. "Mere speculation, of course."

Isadora then mentioned that there was another test they had yet to see. This grabbed Roy's attention. There was a way to legitimately confirm whether or not this boy was the real deal? The Dame Knight then began to speak of a crown that belonged to Leander that could kill the wearer instantly if they weren't his descendant. It was supposedly cold too, and it was unlikely that the suspicious adviser had the means to produce a crown he had never seen before. The young lord pondered a little at this new information.

"A crown that is cold to the touch, to the point where the wearer would die immediately if they're not Leander's heir. Hmm...As long as the cold doesn't kill them, then they're able to prove that they're Leander's kin, right? Does that mean the cold is enough to kill even ice dragons?" he asked Isadora. "Also...like I said earlier, Rogvald might have some sort of document that mentions the appearance of the crown. If he knows what the crown looks like ahead of time..." he left it like that as he pressed his hand against the table, closing his eyes in irritation with himself. "Dammit...all I can do is come up with theories...dammit."

His expression became somber as Isadora told him about Rath. Roy looked at the ground.

"Is that so...I feel bad for him." he glanced up at the ceiling, setting his glass down on the table so he could rest both hands behind him. "...He's strong though. Not a lot of people can accept the order to give up their position and then set up a party to welcome his replacement without breaking down in the middle of it all. People can complain all they want about him, but...he's strong. I respect him."

He then picked up his glass before raising it up before him.

"To Rath, our captain and leader."

"You can't blame yourself. Blaming yourself and falling into depression, it won't change anything.
You have to look forward. Remember what you have here now.
Just think; if you hadn't come here, you wouldn't have met anyone here from
Elibe or anywhere else!"

{Amelia}
Amelia watched Sue approach Rath later, speaking to him quietly. She couldn't hear what she said; they were too far away in order to overhear. She frowned faintly; Rath seemed to relax a bit as his daughter arrived, but he was still clearly feeling off...

She paused in the middle of her contemplations. Something certainly smelled off. The General would have wondered where, precisely, it came from if Aisen had not started to whine.

"...Oh. I'm sorry, you guys. Be back soon." she smiled apologetically before hurrying off with Aisen, making little shushing noises as she quickly scooped up the diaper bag she had left near Rhys' coat, then out of the ballroom to find a lavatory.

Amelia tried to figure out what they could do as she gently cleaned Aisen off and replaced his diaper. There was no to stop the crowning of that young boy, and it was foolish to consider it, but there was at least a way to keep Rath in some position of power, right? Putting someone so inexperienced--or even someone experienced--in charge in the middle of a war situation was stupid. "They aren't going to know what's going on. People are going to senselessly die..." Amelia quietly wiped Aisen clean.

Amelia quietly put on his diaper, cooing a reassuring sound and kissing his little nose when she finished. She smiled, threw away the soiled things, and put the rest of her things back in the diaper bag before hurrying back into the ballroom.

Hopefully, at least, the guild won't be in danger...

Neros spluttered and would have fallen over if he was not already squished into the corner.

"How did—when did you get there?!" he exclaimed quietly, trying not to give himself away. The mage in front of him appeared to remember their need to lay low and did not move, did not turn his head. Neros narrowed his eyes at Charles and attempted to discern what manner of creature he was (as Neros did not know what he was, himself), and it soon occurred to him that this other person appeared to be undead.

"Huh...have we met somewhere?" he then inquired, puzzled. Perhaps it had been the constant presence of all those monsters at that tower back around last Samhain, but it seemed to Neros that he may have spotted Charles somewhere before.

User ImageWhat a turn of events. The control of Learania was about to change hands. Everyone appeared to be on pins and needles. Speculation easily traveled to the crimson haired hostess’ ears. Rumors came flooding in to the café as soon as the coronation party was announced. Of course it was being run by their rivals, the Host Club. Disaster had a tendency to ruin a good portion of their parties so she wanted to experience for herself this time’s possible calamity. But more important things came first.

Aruna gently washed away the last bit of blood from Ganon’s scales with a soft, damp washcloth. Afterwards she applied an herbal salve to speed up his recovery then wrapped clean bandages his abdomen, chest, and left arm. The orange red nagini remained silent, lost in her own thoughts, until she finished healing her beloved. This war had already taken its toll on the reptilian bard in front of her. He appeared devastated when he first returned home. Aruna could only imagine the trauma he experienced. This was one of the many reasons she disliked fighting. Emotional wounds were much harder to heal than physical ones.

User ImageHistory was in the making today and the hostess wasn’t going to miss it. But her conscious poked at her while she changed into a short white and light blue dress. Aruna was unsure if leaving him to sort through his thoughts alone was a good idea. She hoped that later he would join in the party, but that could be wishful thinking. Adding some gold jewelry to her ensemble, the snake woman was finally ready to go to the coronation ceremony. Before leaving she combed back Ganon’s red quills with her right hand which then followed the curves of his long neck. Aruna moved closer to kiss her darling bard. “I love you,” she said almost like a whisper as she pulled back. After giving him another kiss, she finally slithered out the door.

When she first arrived at the courtyard, Aruna was impressed by the elegant atmosphere. The Host Club certainly did a good job setting up she’ll give them that. The nagini slithered to the side to avoid too much attention. It wasn’t hard to hear the gossips floating around. So a little boy was to be the next king. Along with the supposed heir a shady advisor appeared too. The future seemed like it would be interesting to say the least.

Well, it seemed that the paladin was the the only person who felt that the nobles were being ignorant. Isadora let out a chuckle when Roy made a comment about the country's future rested in the boy's hand. She admitted she had concerned about that issue. After all, the boy was much too young to handle a war crisis they were in right now. Thankfully, Rath had agreed to give the guidance of leadership to the boy. With Rath there to help, this would ease the tension of how the war would settle.

The paladin nodded to Roy's question about Rogvald's house status. It was true that his house served Leander. However, he was also corrected about what they did during their absence. After all, the Learania nobles had lost contact with Sceptan house centuries ago.

"Yes, Leander did show up almost two years ago. However, do you expect the nobles to believe that we met the king who was supposed to be dead centuries ago? I doubt that the nobles will think that we've lost our minds if we told them the truth. The nobles believed that what happened two years was nothing but a terrible blizzard. They didn't know it was Leander who didn't know he wasn't in his time. If we tell them that we've met Leander, we may end up in the asylum."

The Dame Knight nodded her head again when Roy asked if the heir could prove his heritage by wearing the crown. She let out a chuckle when Roy made a joke question. "To be honest, I don't know. But I don't think your mother and uncle will approve of wearing it."

She listened to Roy made another theory about Rogvald having document of the crown. It was still unknown if the adviser had documents with him or not. And although she didn't trust the adviser and wanted to know what was he planning, she couldn't do anything about it with no solid evidence to back up. Sure, she could make up an accusation of what the adviser did, but she would still need evidence to support her accusation. It was hard to tell if what the adviser said about himself was true. However, she couldn't let go of the unease feeling she had toward him. If only she could see what was in Rogvald's mind.

Suddenly, Isadora heard Roy commented about Rath. Her lips grew tightly as she listened. Roy was right about Rath. The nomad was strong. But was the nomad strong enough to support all the burdens and responsibilities that was weighted on his shoulders? There was no telling if the captain needed their assistance or not. Oy Rath, why did he had to make it so hard for the guild to understand him so well?

The Dame Knight raised her drink as Roy made a toast to the nomad. As she took another sip, she looked around to see how the nomad was doing. Out from the corner of her eyes, she saw that Rath was having a conversation with Sue. It seemed that the nomad was enjoying himself. However, it was hard to tell if there was something troubling him. Speaking of trouble...

She looked around the area, wondering if the adviser was here to celebrate the boy's coronation. From what she had seen, there was no sign of the adviser. Odd, where did that old git go? Surely, he wouldn't dare miss this celebration after trying to get this occasion to come so quickly. Could he be with the child who was being clothed for the ceremony? That could be one of the reasons. However, it was unlike him to not appear at all to see how the party was going. After all, that old bag of bones had been hounding the Host Club to make the preparation readied and perfect.

"I wonder where he is..." Isadora muttered herself, loud enough for the young lord to hear. It was unknown who was this "he" the paladin was referring to. It could be Rogvald, Renault, or any male figure. However, it was clear that the paladin's awareness was increased.

Fire Dragon

User ImageA martini glass went in to the air along with Roy’s drink as the young Lord gave a tribute to the still-current leader of FEF and Learania, making contact with the drink Roy held up before the wielder took a sip afterwards. The glass indicated it could only be one person: FD (and in his tuxedo, no less). Nils was there too, but is busy IRL, so just know that Nils is present at the coronation.

FD had returned to Eyris at the same time as Heath and Vaida (and the extra baggage they had brought back as well), so he was up to date concerning all that was going on, and was just as surprised and suspicious as everyone else about it all, not that he had a say in any of it. All he could do was fulfill his Host Club duties and assist as best he could in preparing for the coronation... which basically meant he had arranged for there to be a bar with a massive plethora of drinks to be had – this time with a professional bartender to reign over it, thanks to the generous funds they had to work with to put everything together.

As far as what FD thought about the boy becoming a king… it was extremely stupid to be changing leadership in the middle of a war that had just erupted, whether the boy was a legitimate heir or not. Dealing with the invasions of Sentria and Mordache should be a much higher priority, he thought. The nobles could worry about who would be their leader of the country after the country was secured. To have the coronation take place on such short notice despite all that had happened made the dragon all the more untrusting of the situation. He also felt sympathetic to their current leader, Rath, considering the circumstances and rumors going about that the only reason the coronation was happening so suddenly was so the nobles would be rid of him. But what could he do about any of it, besides stay on his toes? His voice, like those of the majority of the guild, was virtually nonexistent to those of nobles unless it reaffirmed their own. Besides, maybe the boy wouldn't be that bad a leader after all. Maybe he would be an excellent leader in time. Maybe. And if worst came to worst, FD wasn't completely tied to Learania. The dragon knew what it was like to leave one's homeland all too well, and knew he could do it again, take Nils with him, if he had to. But he highly doubted it would ever come to something like that. It's not as if Learania was transforming into some fascist dictatorship bent on destroying those who had come from other worlds or something. It was just a change of leadership, not the end of the world. They simply had to wait and see what would happen.

But FD’s thoughts weren’t solely on the coronation issue, but also on the Host Club, itself. This was the first celebration they had had to be asked to make happen. It seemed as though the days of them regularly hosting celebrations for various holidays or simply for the sake of having a celebration had died out. It seemed that the organization was disintegrating over time. Obviously the lives of its members had evolved since the inception, and such evolution was partly due to the Host Club. Rhys and Amelia were married and now had a child, he and Nils were now married (and had met because of the Host Club, no less), the elusive Rei allegedly had his hands full looking after a couple of trouble-making kids, and Sue seemed to be busier ever since her father had taken over for Nino. Life had changed, and to be putting together another celebration after so much change only emphasized it, the circumstances more so. FD had changed, and so had his priorities.

But he still had to be a good Host, not to mention fulfill his uncle-duties in making sure all was well with his nephew.

"Couldn't agree with you more, nephew," he chimed in. "Glad to see you're okay considering everything that's been going on lately. Glad, to see you too, Lady Isadora. I can only imagine how busy you've been as a crew member during all of this. It's seemed like Kaoru has been working non-stop."

At the gate, citizens began to enter, being greeted by castle guards.

"Pardon sir, but there are no weapons permitted." a guard said to an entering villager, as he blocked the way with his lance.

The villager looked down somewhat confused and saw what the soldier was talking about. "Oh! Silly me, I forgot to leave my hunting knife at home." He unlatched it and handed it to the guard.

It was accepted and handed off to one of the other soldiers, who walked off with it. "It will be held in the castle storeroom. You can retrieve it as you leave." He removed his lance. "Enjoy the festivity."

____________________________________________________

Meanwhile, the citizens that were already inside were happily congregating.

"Can you believe it? I wonder if he really is the heir!"

"Don't be silly, he's just a tool."

"I don't know, I heard the nobles had to concede. And besides, the crown will tell for sure! Oooh, just imagine!"

"Yeah, King Leander was an amazing man. He did so much good for this country. Sure, in the end, he may have just been another tool that the dark god used, but no one has ever been a better person than he."

"I hope his heir comes close to being anything like him..."

Inside the courtyard, a cane tapped the ground as its holder made his way to the front, where the nobles were. There was no need for the cane. It simple looked elegant. However, what one could not tell was that the handle could be removed from the body to reveal a steely danger. It proved quite useful in surprising situations.

Lord Arajudia, accompanied by wife and children, entered the group of nobility and began to mingle. Sir Argyle, head of house Raetia, who was accompanied by his own wife and son, was the first to notice him. The families bowed to one another and the two men began to have their own conversation away from their families. "I wish this would just be done and over with, already..." Lord Raetia uttered.

The sharp brows of Lord Arajudia rose. "Now, now, Argyle. I figured that you would at least be happy about that savage no longer being in charge."

"At the very least..." Lord Raetia replied, lowly.

Lord Arajudia made a smooth roll of the eyes as he began to look around the courtyard. He smiked, then turned back. "Well, the guild members certainly seem to be in high spirits..." he said sarcastically. "I don't know what they're so worried about, the guild isn't going to be shut down. That Rogvald is shady, but he's not senile. It's clear that the guild is needed to aid Learania in this war. And I'd actually be willing to defend the guild members, seeing as how they managed to keep my home safe. After all, they're convenient to deploy and easily disposable."

Lord Zeon had gone unnoticed by the two, but meandered close to them after his two sons had gone off to mingle. He ignored Lord Arajudia's statement. "Has there been any word of Lord Pentheus and Lord Sires?" he said in his old, scruffy voice.

Lord Eyris, who had approached to hear the question, injerjected before the others could respond. "No, there hasn't. Though, Lord Pentheus is rumored to have perished. The same fate may come to Lord Sires as well."

"Mm... Shame." Lord Zeon stared forward, away from the other two, without a change to his stern face.

"..." Lord Arajudia glanced at Lord Zeon, unenthusiastic about the man's presence, then quickly glanced away. "Well, at least my home remains in tact. I do believe I shall return once this comes to an end."

"It may come to an end very quickly, if the crown kills the child." Lord Zeon coldly said.

"Oh ho! You still doubt that he is truly the heir, do you?" Lord Arajudia grinned. "How curious, then, that we are even having this."

"Hmph." Lord Zeon retorted. "This is my real test. His performance will prove how competent he is, too. Rightful heir or not, we will see if he is truly deserving to rule by his actions. At the very least... he will be much easier to influence."

Lord Eyris' jaw dropped slightly and he glanced around, shocked at the things the other nobles were saying. He grew a sad expression and looked down. "... ...I believe in His Highness."

Lend me your ear!
...Heed my words.
ogvald

xxxxxThe day had finally come that change would occur. The palace had already proven a much better suited place for James, even if it wasn't the best chamber within it. Clothes had been stitched, proper washing was had, and grooming topped it all off.

xxxxxxxxxxInside their room, Rogvald was finishing up getting James prepared. "Now remember, you just- James." Rogvald pulled the child's chin to face forward, so that James would look at him. "You just walk down the path, ascend the stairs and stand before me. You kneel and recite the oath, then wait for me to place the crown upon your head, before rising back up and turning to face the public, where you shall be subject to a thunderous applause!"

xxxxxDuring his directions, Rogvald had ended up in a dramatic position with his hand flared out, the result of a motion he had done for the part about the applause. What he had said may or may not have actually reached the boy. Rogvald suddenly clapped his hands, then laced his fingers together. "They are taking the crown out of storage, the very crown Leander wore! This will prove to them all that you are who you are." He placed a hand on James' shoulder. "And that is something nobody can take away from you."

xxxxxHe squeezed lightly, then appeared at the door with a flutter of his overcoat. "You will see, James. The people will love you. You will come to be accepted, despite your young age and I will ever be with you to ensure your rule is wondrous." The door was opened and Rogvald took a step out. "I await your noble walk down the pathway, in the courtyard... Your Highness!"

xxxxxThe door shut and Rogvald quickly made his way to the courtyard and took his place. The coronation was about to begin.

I advise you to listen. Not doing so could prove... deadly.

User ImageWhile the others busied themselves with trying to reassure their uncertainties around James' coronation, Annis stood quietly to the side, busying herself with a glass of wine. She swirled it quietly in its cup, looking over at the gathering crowd in mild curiosity.

"This is a load of s**t, y'know," she murmured to Loch, standing next to her. "Crownin' a kid in wartime, even if he's got that funky adviser to help him. I don't like that guy. He looks like he's going to do something unsavory."

Annis downed the rest of her wine, setting the cup on the table. "This is not right," she said, keeping her voice lowered to where only Loch could hear. (Perhaps Tibarn could as well, but he was too busy being angry to pay attention to her. Thankfully.) "This kid's gonna ******** s**t up and I doubt that creepy adviser's gonna do much to really help while we're in war. Those pansy-a** nobles just wanted Rath out of the way." she paused, looking to be in deep contemplation.

Or perhaps she was just trying to remember if she'd had two or three cups of wine so far.

"But y'know what? I think it'll be fine. This guild's such an altruistic buncha kids that they'll fix whatever mess is going on. And they'll probably drag us into it, but hey, Eyris has gone through worse s**t." Annis picked up her cup and began to fill it again. "It'll last through this."

"Annis, love, I think you've had too..."

Other than his murmured protests, which he was pretty sure were being ignored, he stood in silent agreement with Annis. Minus all the cursing. He was pretty sure this was at least her fourth cup of wine, and on any other day he'd stop her but she wasn't slurring her words yet. Besides, his thoughts almost echoed those of hers, though his were a little more internal. Ever since things had gone slightly askew within country relations, all sorts of weird things had been going on. The latest of weird things being, of course, this coronation. Loch's Spidey Sense was going off hardcore, and it was mostly focused upon that advisor. All sorts of creepy dark vibes drifted from his form, and it unnerved the heron. But who'd listen to a washed-up heron who couldn't transform? Barely anyone took him seriously as it was, anyway.

"The advisor is totally a rapist," Annis continued to murmur from his side. "I can sense it."

Loch glanced over at Annis and took her wrist for a moment. "Annis, maybe you should..."

Nah.

User ImageAnnis let out a long, drawn-out sigh. Loch didn't seem to be saying anything in response, but he wasn't disagreeing with her. Therefore, she assumed he agreed on everything and wrapped one arm around his waist. "We'll just have to keep an eye on him," she murmured to him, brushing his hair off of his face and tucking his bangs behind his ears in a surprisingly tender gesture, especially considering how much alcohol she'd already downed.

She handed him her glass of wine without any complaints. She hadn't actually had any of that glass yet, anyway. The raven looked back ahead, awkwardly brushing a hand over her skirt to make it lay more appropriately over her thighs in the front. "The minute he does something ******** up, trust me. Guild's going to leap into action and slap a b***h back down to reality." Annis didn't bother to get a glass of her own just yet, simply resting her cheek against Loch's shoulder.

"Your jacket is comfortable. Anyway, sounds like it'll start soon. Do you think the kid's actually his heir? Or is the crown gonna end up destroying the kid? I think Tibarn said that would happen if he wasn't a blood relative. That might be a pretty interesting display..."

User ImageIt was a shame, really, that her father denied the offer of nomad tea, a rather... recreational thing that they enjoyed together. Still, it wasn't really that big of a deal. If he'd lost his taste, he'd lost his taste, that's all there was to it. At the very least though, Sue noticed a grin on Rath's face, however small. He was happy to see her. That was always a good thing to know. Taking another sip, she could only help but return her father's gesture.

And then, came the question. How was she since returning from the plains? "I've been good, actually. My duties with the Host Club have kept me busy and free of worries." said Sue, with as much cheer as the times would allow her to muster.

And then her mind thought of how those worries were multiplied tenfold. With the fate of the guild hanging in the most uncertainty, everyone was a bit on the edge. Hopefully the boy would not turn into a madman like a certain Bern royal turned out to be. Hopefully, even when not in 'ruling power', the guild would be able to do its main duty of defending the citizens of Learania. "Father Sky, Mother Earth... please be merciful."

"I cannot be entirely sure," Loch murmured as he brought the glass to his lips, draining it in one go. He winced a bit at the taste, then set the glass down on a nearby counter. As for Tibarn's words, the former Hawk King was known to be something of a blowhard, but when he said something foreboding like that it was typically grounded in reality.

"Perhaps..." Loch nodded, stretching his arm out over the raven's shoulders and pulling her closer as he glanced at her. "Perhaps it would be. The guild is in increasingly miserable shape, however..." There was no other excuse for the growing state of animosity between Learania and the other countries. He smoothed the sleeve of his jacket and continued. "It may take more than that to 'slap a b***h', as you so eloquently put it." His gaze returned to the figures ahead. "There is no doubt in my mind that something will happen if the child fails. I sense it. It will not end well for anyone."

There he was going, being depressing when he was sensing weird stuff again. "Annis, would you care to pour me another glass?" he asked, taking hold of the glass he'd set aside moments ago and extending it towards her.
