"H'm. Scoundrel," Nadja smirked with a slight uplift of her chin. She didn't seem upset in the slightest.
The waiter's appearance brought a polite, professional smile to the redhead's features - shades of her usual businesslike bearing. "The orange-glazed Seaking with your Pinot Gris," she requested, handing the menu to the waiter when he collected them.

And Seth didn't seem particularly bothered by that title either. He too returned the menu to the waiter who then took his leave.
"So... you're Russian." Seth remarked, having made the observation from her last name from the first time they had met. Their... argument in Russian had only cemented that fact. "You grew up there?"
While across the way, there was the cry of, "Coooorphish!" As a certain marine Pokemon was plucked from a tank, its pincers held together by rubber bands. It was then taken into the kitchen to be slaughtered and cooked.

Nadja didn't respond to the distress call. Compassion had its time and place.
"I was born in Nizhny Novgorod," she acknowledged, easily slipping the foreign place name into her speech, "but we left when I was four. I remember the churches." The redhead paused to murmur a quiet 'thank you' as the waiter delivered water and slipped away, lifting her glass by the stem for a sip before adding somewhat wryly, "And snow. Johto was tropical in comparison."

Seth pretty much ignored the water that was set before him for the time being, as well as the cry from the unfortunate Corphish.
"Interesting," he replied as the man sat back in his chair and studied the woman before him. He did remember that she had transferred from Johto, so it made sense. "Which city in Johto?" He knew that region quite well after all.

Nadja laid her arms loosely on the edge of the table when she set her water glass down, crossed at the wrists.
"Goldenrod." Now that she wasn't smirking at her date's behavior, Nadja wore the faint, inscrutable smile she usually did. Her lips didn't press together as tightly when she finished speaking, instead remaining ever so slightly parted. "Or close enough."
"You were stationed in that region as well if I remember right. Are you a native?"

Seth's brows shot up at that. It was a small world after all.
"I am." Seth said back, his gaze locking with hers. "From Goldenrod." That was rather coincidental. "Its a wonder we haven't crossed paths before." Or if they had, they didn't realize it.
"It makes me curious as to what brought you to that part of the world." He after all had actually been born and did considerable portion of his growing up there. But what would prompt a family to move from Russia to Johto, was the question.

A slight tilt of her head, a considering cast to her gaze - Really now, her expression seemed to say. At the very least he had her interest.
"Well. It's a large city," Nadja pointed out with a slight motion of her hand, "and I spent most of my time in the field or on assignment. I imagine you were focused on your own work." There was an element of risk to discussing the past in a public place, but the elite spoke of it so casually, in such general terms, that it could be any company up for discussion.
The redhead made an amused sound at the comment about emigration. "At that age I didn't make the decisions, but I understand it wasn't a place to raise a child. It was worth what it took."

"Indeed," he couldn't argue with that. Goldenrod certainly was rather large, and they belonged to two completely different parts of Team Rocket. Plus back then they were likely Grunts or Agents and blended in more with the masses than they did now. Plus they likely had their own agendas.
Despite his few words, Seth was indeed interested to learn what he could about this woman. However, while he was capable of it, Seth wasn't the best when it came to conversation and didn't really enjoy copious amounts of it.
However, his thoughtful expression which he'd had for the past few minutes while listening to Nadja, changed back to that smirk yet again. "And what exactly did it take?"

"Bribery." Nadja returned the smirk in kind, almost playful in her response. "A lot of it."
"Zakon chto dyshlo, kuda povernyosh - tuda i vyshlo-*" the redhead murmured, an extra layer of richness coming into her voice as she slipped into her native tongue. Her grey gaze never left Seth as she lifted her water glass. "-and the borders wouldn't open for another four years."

Seth's eyes glimmered with intrigue. Now that was certainly interesting.
He also couldn't help another amused chuckle at her words in Russian. It was so true. He knew this rather well. "I see. It appears I'm not the only one who is full of surprises." Although she had only begun to scratch the surface with him, and he had a feeling the same was true for her.
Just then the waiter returned, this time bringing their food and wine. The plates were set down before them both, just before the man brought out the wine bottles and poured their respective selections into Nadja and Seth's glasses.

There was a quiet answering chuckle from the woman across the table. "I can't let you have all the fun," she murmured, before glancing up as the waiter arrived.
Nadja half-unfolded her napkin and laid it on her lap, letting the conversation lapse into silence while the dishes were set out. The meals were brightly colored and artfully arranged, fresh from the kitchen; indistinct spirals of smoke trailed upward.
Seth wasn't a scintillating conversationalist, however well-mannered he was (mostly) being, but he was making an appreciable effort.
"So," Nadja asked over the quiet link of cutlery, as the television on the far wall switched to the nightly news report, "why computers?"

No he wasn't the best at conversation, mostly cause he didn't practice it and didn't really enjoy small talk. This wasn't the most stimulating conversation and thus is only somewhat held his attention. The only thing that was interesting was finding out little tid bits about Nadja that wouldn't be in her Team Rocket files.
Seth glanced down at his plate that now held the abdomen and tail of a very dead Corphish that was an even brighter shade of red from being boiled. The shell had already been cut open and gutted to significantly decrease the messiness.
"Heh," was the only reply he had to not letting him have all the fun. But now she decided to change the topic back to him. There was a moment of temptation where his habit would result in a sarcastic reply. However, he deliberately held this back.
"It's what I excel at, plus its a challenge." A very basic, somewhat evasive answer. "I admit I prefer training Pokemon, but computers is far more... marketable."

Basic, evasive, and something she had already gathered. As answers went it wouldn't impress a college admissions board, let alone someone's date, and Nadja's expression shaded to 'civil.'
"Interesting priorities," she commented absently, but didn't inquire further. The redhead focused on her coral pink Seaking fillet as the news moved from the local stories to new developments in the Jinko museum theft - to wit, nothing. Her attention shifted that way.

Seth couldn't help a small sigh, a flash of irritation appearing in his expression before he too turned his gaze towards the tv screen across the room. It was obvious, even to him, that he was failing at giving her satisfying answers.
However, his attention didn't last on the tv very long, and he instead decided to focus on the Corphish in front of him.

"H'm," Nadja murmured as she reached for her wine, the corner of her mouth quirking as she studied its color - a warm, pale gold, a bubble or two clinging to the side.
"That was rude of me," she acknowledged, looking back to the tall man sitting opposite her. "When did you start training?"
The television switched to a clip of well-groomed men in suits - mostly middle-aged, but one quite young - shaking hands over a business deal.
