Shiro grinned as the waitress hurried off. "Looks like they're quite busy here today," he murmured, reaching into his bag and pulling out his laptop. As he opened it and began to boot it up, he glanced over at Ura. "Order for me, will you?" he requested.
Ura nodded and started browsing the menu. He knew what his counterpart liked, after all. They were two bodies of one mind.

Kali, since she didn't have the convenience of another self looked through the menu. It was quiet a selection to be honest, especially for a sit down cafe like this one.
"You need to get a tablet for when you go out like this," Kali commented without looking up.

"That's part of why I brought you out here," Shiro admitted, tapping his fingers impatiently as he waited for the laptop. "I would love a tablet, but they're simply not made to the specifications that I need. They don't have enough memory, hard drive space, their capabilities for what I do is terrible ... and I would kill the battery faster than anyone could imagine."
He looked at her across the table. "You're always tinkering around with technology and stuff. If I bought the materials, would you be able to put something together for me? Something that I could take everywhere? I don't need to do most of my programming on it, I would still use my laptop for that, but something that would be fast and useful?"

Nevermind how hard Shiro would be on a tablet in general. Kali had heard stories about Shiro's computer usage, somehow she wasn't at all surprised by that.
"I forget you give whole new meaning to the term 'memory hog'," Kali murmured wryly, "It depends on what you want to use the tablet for? I've heard rumours Shiro of how hard you are on your electronics but I've never asked. It also depends on how big are you willing to have it?"
Her mind was already going through the motions of what she could possibly do for Shiro. The nice thing about doing a custom job for one particular person is that some technologies that were never suited for a general public could be used instead if tailored to a specific individual.
She set down her menu, a sandwich sounded good to her at this point.

It seemed that just at the moment that Kali put down her menu, Amaya returned to take their order.
"All set?" she asked with a smile. "What can I get for you?"

Shiro looked over to the waitress. He hadn't even glanced at the menu, but that didn't worry him. He would let Ura order for him.
"Two sandwiches, both with ham, lettuce, and mustard," the demonic neko ordered. "One cut in half horizontally, the other diagonally. And two glasses of milk, one white, one strawberry."
He looked across the table at Kali, his golden eyes resting on her expectantly.

Kali looked up and murmured, "Ah... Salami, with red onions, lettuce, and cucumbers with a steamer, dark."
She looked up from her menu, it was rare she would have something that sweet but how often was it that a place served steamers?
"Please, I think that's it."

Amaya nodded as they ordered, scribbling it all down on her notepad as quickly as they spoke. She didn't react when Ura ordered the sandwiches cut differently, but took it all in stride.
Once Kali had finished ordering, she tucked her pen behind her ear and smiled at them. "They'll be up soon!" she told them, and in a moment she was gone again.

Once the waitress was gone, Shiro looked back at Kali.
"Anyways," he said, picking up where they had left off, "I want it to be secure, and I want to be able to run multiple programs at once, and I want it to be fast. And be able to store a lot on it. I mean a lot. A terabyte at least, more if possible. Ten gigabytes of RAM for speed and efficiency. Don't worry about an O/S, just make sure it's got DOS and I'll program it myself. It'll need secure wireless, USB ..."
The laptop was finally up and running, and he started tapping away at the keyboard.
"I'd also like fingerprint and handwriting recognition, so it'll have to be touchscreen," he added. "I can get the parts, it would just be a matter of putting it all together. I just don't have the time." He looked at Kali over the top of his laptop. "What do you think? Doable?"

"The memory and storage might be a bit of an issue on top of the battery power," Kali replied rubbing the back of her neck, "It can't be too large otherwise it'll be useless for travel, but it means all the parts has to be beyond the most energy effective currently out on market, on top of the most efficient battery..."
She paused, well that was unless she somehow made the damn thing solar power. She drummed her fingers against the table.
"The touch screen would take up most of the tablet so I'm not sure how effective a solar panel would be, not unless you want an accessory for that to plug in while you're on the go. I do have portal solar panel flowers that have the eco friendly people pleased as punch."
Cute and effective, just how.. well just how her mother would like it.
"I would need the O/S done before I can put in hand writing and finger printing recognition. Like the parts you need to have it, it's that hard. Touch screen has been around.. forever, you just need the programs for it. A webcam can easily solve your fingerprint problem and you can hold video talks if you need to. So otherwise it's all do-able in theory."
She paused for a moment before adding.
"Also the need to add wireless onto it will be useful in more ways than one. The current best tablet out there, technically never shuts off, it only sleeps. So having a constant wireless along with a GPS should allow you to also track and pull the information from your tablet should the unthinkable happen.... Oh yes... mics are also standards in the latest tablets would you like voice recogiztion as well?"

"Well, I'm not going to spend money on programs that I could write myself," Shiro mused. "As for solar power, that would be great. Then I could use it whenever I travel to Arda, which was one of my worries. Kaito's there now, taking notes in his journal, which I found on the last trip was highly ineffective. There simply isn't enough ink or paper to last another trip like that. It's a waste."
He paused thoughtfully. "Even if you could use a stronger battery, but make some sort of solar powered charger? I would need a second battery to use while that one was charging ... or have it somehow charge while still turned on ..."
He tapped his fingers thoughtfully.
"I have contacts, so getting the parts needed won't be difficult." Thank whatever deities there be that even the military had asked for his work. When he wanted something, it didn't have to be on the regular market. "A regular webcam wouldn't be biometrically efficient, but I'll see what I can do about that, too. Voice recognition would be great."
He tapped notes into his laptop, his red eyes flashing as he thought about how it was all going to work. "GPS," he murmured to himself. "I do want fingerprint recognition, so I'll have to ask for the ..."
He grinned at Kali. "Thank the gods for people in high places who owe big favours."

Kali laughed at that, she too created a thing or two for people who have wanted it. How else could she afford her motorcycle and all her other pretty things?
"And people wonder why other people keep such a close eye on the family," Kali murmured.
It stood with reason, besides Shiro and herself, there was Helen and Trisha who had that lucrative partnership with Wolf and his wife. There was Yukiko who owned the green house (who was also getting it expanded), and then there was the school....
"Quite frightening really in some ways. As for the battery, a second battery with a solar powered charger is much more do-able. Tablets the way they're made, it isn't very practical to put one on there. The other choice, other than a web cam, is that there is that bottom footer where the power button is supposed to go. Instead of a power button, maybe that is where the finger or thumb printing depending on what digit you use, could be used to turn on the device instead."

Amaya returned then with their orders, but since the space in front of Shiro and Kali was taken up, she placed all of it in front of Ura.
"Two ham sandwiches, one salami, two milks and a steamer," she recited as she set it all down. She lowered her tray and smiled at the group, her face flushed with excitement and tiredness. "Is there anything else I can help you with?"

Ura pushed Shiro's laptop out of the way, since he knew that Shiro would ignore the food until the business was literally put aside, and passed his food over to him.
"I think we're good," he told the waitress with a nod. He looked over at Kali. "Do you need anything else?"

Kali thought about it before shaking her head, "No thank you, I'm fine."
At least until dessert she figured, but that won't be for a while if they kept talking like this. That was the nice thing about sandwiches didn't have to worry about anything getting cold.
Except for the steamer of course.
