Ampalaya wasn't as lucky as she hoped to be; it took longer then she expected to catch the zebra calf that was to be dinner, and longer o drag it back to the tree where Nyofu was waiting.
"I've caught something for dinner, little cheetah. Did you manage to get anything?"
Ampalaya deposited the meal at the foot of the tree, but did not start eating yet - she wanted the cheetah cub to eat her fill. Ampalaya had more meat on her bones then this cub, she could stand to miss a meal or two.

"No," Nyofu said, dropping her head. "I saw a - a small thing but it went down a hole an' I couldn' get it t' come back out," she added, ashamed and embarrassed - and still rather frightened, despite all of the reassurances on Ampalaya's part. "I'm glad you got food, though."

"I beleive, then, according to our bet that you have to believe I don't want to hurt you. And since you gave it a good shot, you can have this, to start."
Ampalaya ripped one the hind legs off the zebra and put it in front of Nyofu. "That should be a good start to your dinner at least."

Nyofu peered at the food, then back up at the lioness. She was going to have to believe that? But - but lions were scary... even though this one seemed nice... the small cub hesitated for a long moment, before hunger got the better of her and she approached the food, sniffing it daintily for a moment.
"You're sure? It's okay?" she asked, trying to keep her voice from shaking - she was supposed to believe that she wouldn't be hurt, so her voice couldn't shake. It couldn't!

Ampalaya smiled at the cub. She was trying, but she sure was cute.
"I"m sure, besides, I'll get sick if I eat this whole thing myself. Besides, you need to get fed up so you can be strong. You're mama would want you to be strong, and to survive, right? You have to eat if you want to survive."
Ampalaya watched over the cheetah cub, feeling content and accomplished. It was a little, but a little bit helped. Even if the cheetah went her own way the next day, Ampalaya had kept her alive for the night.
