Star Finder jumped off Finding and ran for the rock. "Well, I guess I will join in the race too."
Her eyes squinted at the rock, it looked a decent ways away. All she really saw was the mongoose as it jumped onto the rock. The gray doe started to wonder if there was more to this race than just running. There was a feeling inside that made her feel like the shimmering rock had some importance.Normally not one to distrust another, she looked back at the kiokote, and held back her question.

 Shines-Bright looks to the rock in the distance -- it's not so far, really, is it? She can run that far! -- and back to Windjammer and Finding Water. Already dancing a bit on her hooves, she watches the mongoose run to the rock, then bobs her head and angles herself a bit so her legs won't slip in the mud here at the edge when they race off. "Ready," she announces. Ready and not just a little excited. And maybe a touch nervous. She'll move, at the very least.

She can't help but feel a little prickle of excitement run down her spine and out through the end of her tail. It makes her shiver in place, and after a moment she rears up, settling her forefeet more firmly on the ground afterwards. Windjammer's competitive nature will help the two does, whether they believe it or not. Though she enjoys winning and tries her hardest to do so, she's also fair.
"I will count," she nods, looking to the others. "On the count of three, we will begin. Whoever makes it to the rock first, by the mongoose's count, will win." She smiles. "Are we ready?"
If the two does nod their readiness, she will nod to herself a final time, and count. "One, two - and three!"
And on three, and not a moment before, Windjammer erupts into motion, immediately running forward in long leaping strides that are plainly designed for speed on the plains. Here at the edge of the marsh their speed is diminished a bit, but still -- she's fast, and she knows it.

She nodded again to Windjammer. Finding stamped her front hoof, scratched at the dirt they stood in.
At the three, she took off and her hind hoofs slide in the mud. She bunched her legs back under her and pushed off, it was a leap for the first step. She ran just to see how long she could keep up with the other two. Her stride are not as long, but they are a little more sure footed with each stride.

Three. That's the number she's waiting for. When she hears it, Shines-Bright launches herself forward, leaping upward more than forward, so she ends up on her hind hooves and has to pitch forward to make any progress at all. The wind seems to roar as she runs, despite the fact that she's tucked her ears back against her head.
There is not a hope that she can keep up with Windjammer. She's unsteady even as she lopes forward, hooves feeling oddly uneven on the hard-packed earth. And yet she understands, she thinks, at least a little bit of why Windjammer might run. Her heart is pounding and that first clumsy surge did sort of make her feel like she'd left the ground, just for a second.
She's laughing by the time she makes it too the rock marker.

Windjammer isn't exactly standing there waiting for the two kimeti when they reach the rock... but there is a significant lead there. Nor has she even broken a sweat. Her breathing is a little harder, but the easy, confident way in which she rests there suggests she could have run twice as far just as easily.
But she is smiling; she looks honestly delighted that the other two does competed in her little game. Swishing her tail back and forth, she paws the ground in triumph, but then looks to each doe with a happy smile. "Wasn't that fun? Did you not feel the wind through your hair? That is how the plains are for me, all the time. Open to the sky and wind. It is the closest I will ever get to flying, unless I were to grow wings."

Her sides were heaving as she reached the rock. "Tha..That was fun." She noticed that Windjammer seemed fine. Finding dropped her head to catch her breath. "Thank you for the suggestion."
She smiled at the other two, her eyes gleamed as she took in the sight. It was open area, no water looked close by, but it was beautiful. She wouldn't leave the swamp for her, but maybe visit every once in a while.

Shines-Bright continues to shift her weight, even now that she's stopped running. Now that she's started moving, she doesn't really want to stop. "Fun," she agrees. "Fun, but my ankles sting a little." Which is to be expected, running on ground that has as little spring as this hard-baked earth has, so she laughs at herself.
And then, because Windjammer has piqued her curiosity, she looks at the wide-open sky, and back at the others. "Do you think there are some that have wings, somewhere?"

Windjammer can't help but glance to the sky once the dust settles around the rock. Finding Water's question is a good one, and for a split second, the kiokote almost takes off again. But instead she stamps a hoof, considering the bare blue sky. Every fiber of her being wishes to run now, to run so fast and so far that she will find a winged one. To be the first to find such a thing, and to bring the knowledge back home.
Realizing she's daydreaming, she asks in a soft voice, still looking at the sky, "Will you ask your people of winged ones? To see if there are any?"

Her breath back, she looked up at the open sky. Sure she seen it before, but there was always extra sound, not just the mongoose chatter away about the race.
Finding Water looked at the other two, "Wings?" She thought the kiokote might have hidden wings for how fast she runs. "I am willing to find an answer about winged ones."

Shines-Bright nodded agreeably as well. It did seem like a valid thing to ask about. After all, she'd never seen anyone like Windjammer before, and clearly she existed. Who was to say that somewhere there were winged kimeti as well.
"I will," she promised, then amended, "We will. Will we find you out here again when we know the answer?"

Windjammer glances back to the two kimeti and smiles, ruby eyes twinkling -- and then dances in place simply because she can't help it. Most would have assumed she'd spent her stores of energy in the race, but Windjammer has nearly boundless energy -- the best thing about being young and a kiokote, in her opinion. "Yes! Of course. I will do my best to remain out here for as long as I am able. I am trying to learn all I can -- simply look for me by this rock whenever you return. I won't tarry far."
And with that, she rears back on her hind feet, kicks up her heels, and is gone. Racing away. Looking for something else to find.
