To be honest, Lessia hadn't actually seen any of that type herself. But if there were Soquili of the former type available, and there were Soquili who KNEW that the former type were available, then it was only logical to assume that there were Soquili of the latter type available. But that was beside the point at the moment; she had managed to both amuse and confound her companion, and at the same time get an idea of just what sort of mare Xaivary actually was. It took a special sort of Soquili to be able to stand toe to toe with a kalona and still be that honest and unafraid.

Lessia could certainly respect that, and what's more, she liked that. Smiling broadly at the other mare, she acknowledged her comment with a firm nod. "Bravo. Appearances can be helpful in some ways, but anyone who judges another purely based on appearance has a lot of maturing to do. Though don't get me wrong; sometimes childlike things are the best!" This last was spoken with a grin as she retrieved the sugar stalk, scooping it up with her tail and bringing it to her mouth with a satisfying crunch. "Not a bad idea, that bag. What all do you carry in there, or is it a secret?"

Xaivary had little reason to be anything but honest; she'd fib if she was pulling a prank on someone, sure, but for the most part she saw no point in lying about herself. Lack of ambition, maybe, but she'd always felt that people could either take her or leave her, because she wasn't going to be anybody else any time soon.

Lessia wasn't actually the first kalona-esque Soquili she'd met either; though that one was actually some time ago! In Xaivary's experience, however... it wasn't the outer looks that usually defined someone as a monster. It was how they treated others, particularly those they were close to. She would denounce someone who was emotionally abusive to their family any day, but just because someone had to crunch a rabbit or something once in a while to eat? Pfft.

"Being mature has nothing to do with being a stick in the mud." Xai grinned at Lessia as she crunched on the stick, peering down at her scarf at the question. "Well, it's not a bag, actually. It's just a really long piece of cloth. Works as a bag pretty well though." She tapped it with her nose. "And not a secret, just a pain to show off and get back in here all at once. Usually I carry little treats, snacks, trinkets... shiny rocks and what not. Whatever will fit, isn't too heavy, and I have an inclination to take with me at the time."

Lessia could very easily respect a Soquili that spoke sense and didn't take themself too seriously; toss in the ability to have a fun conversation and run an adrenaline-packed race through low-slung tree branches, and you had the making for a firm friendship to last the ages! She herself had always been a Soquili of strong passions; while eschewing the lustful passions embraced by the majority of her family, she still tended to make up her mind quickly without much dithering or internal debate.

And she had definitely decided that she liked Xaivary. "It's amazing how many Soquili would disagree with that, but good to know that there's someone else of good sense who understand that fact. Especially someone as sensible and serviceable as you, seriously." This she said while examining the 'bag,' shamelessly peeking into it to see some of the trinkets. "I don't think I'd manage one that well myself, what with the wings and the diving and other high-motion activities, but it certainly does seem like a good idea."

Xaivary shifted when Lessia stuck her nose in the "bag" to keep the scarf from loosening any more than necessary. If it actually came undone it was rather a pain to put back on! "It is rather nice to know that there are some people around who actually have a sense of humor, too. There are waaaay too many straight faces out here, I gotta say."

She stepped back and examined Lessia's frame and wings for a moment once the trinket examinations were done. "Well, if you'd be interested, those Kawani people make some actual bags for the Soquili that live near the village. They have actual straps to keep them on and tie closed and stuff. I could see about borrowing one for you when I get some more sweetsticks, maybe."

Yes, Xai tended to "borrow" things rather frequently. Though she and a couple of the Kawani traders had made a game of it by this point, and sometimes she left some of her more interesting trinkets where they could find them. She was no village Soquili, but she was a fairly recognizable face there... and perhaps a smidge infamous, maybe?

Lessia shook her head at the other mare in amused disagreement at the comment about the other Soquili in the world. While it was true to an extent that people tended to be too serious for their own good, in her experience the larger element of society seemed well and able to laugh at things. Those things didn't always extend to themselves, which was unfortunate; if you were never able to laugh at yourself it tended to imbue your humor with a somewhat cruel element, which she herself had never been a fan of. Although a mostly cheery and gregarious Soquili by nature, she could turn cold very quickly if she felt that her companion was a bully, verbal included.

Not that she had any thoughts of Xaivary being that sort of Soquili. The other mare had already proved that she was willing to laugh at herself as well as Lessia, and she had a merry sort of personality that Lessia found appealing. Much as she adored her best friend Seyx, he had a somewhat solemn nature that didn't always show the sort of good humor that she knew he actually felt. It was nice to be with someone that could show spontaneous good humor!

"Well, I'm sure that if you set your mind to it, you could make several people laugh, Xaivary; you just need to get out there and get yourself exposed! I seem to be pretty good at that myself; we could always join forces to spread laughter and good humor through the world!" As she spoke, she half-spread her wings and arched her neck, adopting one of those dramatic, noble poses that so many Soquili like to take on to look impressive. Granted, in her case the pose was intentional and purely satirical, but it still added something to the drama of the moment...until, laughing, she resumed her normal stance. "Or not."

With that continued good humor, she shook her head at Xaivary's offer of fetching her a bag. "Thank, but no thanks. Between my hair, my wings, my tail, my spikes, and the fact that I'm often moving at high speeds vertically, upside-down, or backwards, it's honestly just asking for trouble or an annoyance. At best, I'd be tangled up in the darn thing, at worst, I'd lose it or choke myself with it. No, it's best for me to just be the way I am and leave things as I find them."

Xaivary was finding more good humor in the world since she started her wanderings, but her views were still colored somewhat by her childhood experiences That might change with time and more meetings like this one, though! "Tell you what, you ever find someone in dire need of having some humor introduced to them, I'll come help!" A good time was likely to be had in such a situation whether their "patient" lived up to her current views or not.

The brown mare shrugged off Lessia's lack of desire for a bag of her own - to each their own, after all - but her mind fixed on the particular directions of motion mentioned and she simply had to ask. "Upside-down and backwards? Seriously?" She'd tried trotting backwards a few times, but it was difficult at best. Apparently wings were useful for more than getting around faster!

Yep, this mare was a keeper, alright. Lessia couldn't help but be taken with someone that was so spirited and energetic; sure, a few of Lessia's responses seemed to have thrown Xaivary for a loop, but what else was new? It was still a good sign that the other mare hadn't taken off, was in fact able and willing to meet her head on in both banter and athleticism...

Well, almost, she amended to herself with a smile. Xaivary's wingless state meant that while she could be a good ground companion, there were some things that she just wouldn't be able to stay on top of, as evidenced by her surprise at the concept of being upside-down or backwards. "Indeed! It takes work, but it is technically possible to move backwards or upside down. I grant you, sometimes gravity is involved as well and you're upside-down while falling, but both can be achieved while in actual flight. It's a real head-rush, let me tell you!" Honestly, Lessia couldn't be surprised at Xaivary's skepticism; however, her open expression and wide grin backed up her story with undeniable proof that it was true.

And to back up her expression, the mare all at once leapt straight into the air, her bat wings spreading wide, and took off both up and outwards, climbing with ease and rapidity. After reaching what she felt was a suitable distance, Lessia then wheeled and started back towards Xaivary, easily rolling into an upside down position as she did so.

The display was sudden, unexpected, and decidedly fun to watch. Xaivary laughed when she realized what Lessia was up to, and just for giggles made an attempt to trot backwards beneath the other mare; it really didn't work out very well though, so she wheeled around and tried to keep pace the normal way. A doomed effort, fast as she was flight was just faster, but fun all the same!

Lessia could appreciate the attempt, but there was no way for Xaivary to hope to keep up with even a kalona in flight. Though not nearly as fast as the winds in flight, kalona stamina was legendary and they were still able to keep up a very aggressive pace. Were she flying normally, Lessia might still have been tempted to slow down and allow Xaivary to keep up with her, but when doing fancy flying speed was needed to prevent crashing. Consequently, she kept up the brisk pace and she went through a full roll, upside-down to right-side up and around again in a casual loop-de-loop before backwinging, then slowing to return to the ground and Xaivary in a very lazy spiral.

"See? That didn't look that hard, did it?" Xaivary's enthusiasm was fodder for Lessia's, and coupled with the adrenaline rush of a brisk flight, Lessia was in even higher spirits than before. It might have been a bit ego-maniacal, but she really did love showing off her tricks for a new audience once in a while. After all, Seyx had already seen all of these moves, and they had never impressed him all that much to begin with!

Even a full tilt run left Xaivary in the dust in this particular feat of speed, so she slowed down to a brisk trot to watch the show until Lessia decided to turn around and land again. She slowed to a stop and watched the kalona spiral in, grinning all the while; she recognized that the winged mare was showing of, but it was something worth seeing in her opinion!

"Didn't look that hard but I'm sure you've got more practice at it than I do." She drawled in amusement. After a pause she added, "I watch birds fly sometimes but I gotta say they have nothing on that stunt." Watching a fully grown soquili engage in such aerobatics was definitely more thrilling than watching a tiny bird!

After a moment of lull she glanced around contemplatively. "I feel like it's my turn to do something now but I don't think I have anything to follow that up. Except maybe waterfall diving, but I don't think there's a big enough fall around here for that one." She had, perhaps, spent too much time around her buddy Fenghuang. Or perhaps he'd spent too much time around her when he was younger. Most likely it was just that their particular brand of crazy was good at drawing out kindred spirits, because it certainly seemed to have happened yet again with Lessia today.
