[Conversations O'er Citrus]
[ Amerald & Eldrick ]

To tell true, Eldrick was rather tired of making his way around this little town. Whilst he'd had a couple of tutoring sessions with the younglings of the more prominent town citizens (who wanted to ensure, obviously, that their treasured little ones were getting an adequate learning), it had soon petered out when they were assured that yes, despite their hideous scrawling, wee lil' Jane and Junior could, as a matter of fact, read and write more than their own name. Heh. There really were some atrocious expectations out here, especially amongst those with any amount of money. License for stupidity, apparently...

[ Eldrick ]

Hey Journal, long time no see. Felt like writing today because something actually interesting occured. I met a strange fellow in the market today whilst I was shopping for fruits to go with my meal. I was rather keen on making some orange glaze to go with the fine salmon I had already purchased. You know the recipe, the one mum used to make when she was feeling out of sorts...or I was, to cheer the both of us. I don't know, I've just been a bit down these days, perhaps I'm finally starting to feel lonely, it isn't like one establishes family and rapports betwixt friends when you're constantly moving from place to place. But regardless... (damn, I wish I could remember the recipe she used to make the tarts she always served with that dinner), I wound up inviting this man, Amerald, he said his name was, over for dinner.

Now the really peculiar hitch is he didn't stay for dinner. Poor blighter seemed to come down with a case of the drowsies and excused himself right in the middle of meal preperation. Heh. Not a lot of help, really...but it was his loss, I won't lie, it wasn't quite like my dear mam's, but it was pretty damn good if I can boast for myself. Of course I can, you're parchment, you're not going to tell me to shove it. He was a particularly eccentric individual...an alchemist, he said he was, runs the apothecary. I've never seen a need for apothecary myself, for my own personal use that is, but he's promised to make it up to me with dinner....and he mentioned earlier he was going to give me something from his shop. I daresay I hope I haven't attracted anyone with untowards or inconveniencing tendencies, but he seemed polite enough, despite his oddness.

You know what the funny thing is, journal? I thought his hasty exit might have proved him to be some sort of thief with itchy fingers, and that he'd had to make a swift retreat before I discovered his crime. But he didn't take anything...no, strange as it would seem, I think he left a feather in my bathroom. Right there on the counter, when I came in whilst letting the salmon grill...if I'm not incorrect, it comes from some sort of falcon. Not a bad sort of choice if one wants to gift a person a feather.

It's rather pretty, honestly, in all of its unassuming color and muted tones. So I put it on the bedside table for now, perhaps I'll bring it with me when I go to visit tomorrow, just in case it was mistakenly abandoned. Don't want to go snitching things, even by accident.

Well then, enough rambling for one night. Next time I won't be so long in talking to you, since you're so loyal and uncomplicated. Just don't tell my mam.

[Of Feathery Dinner Gifts]
[ Amerald/Amelia/Annabelle & Eldrick/Alasdair ]

Oh gods it had been a long day. Already Eldrick was forming something of a headache, having suffered through a tutoring appointment with a precocious pair of twins. Their mother had been a quiet soul, and the children, well, absolute terrors. Feeling as though he'd been run headlong into a brick wall, he'd never been so elated to wrap things up and make his exit. Shifting his satchel on his shoulder, an article that the twins had possessed the gall to ridicule him over, he sighed and trudged towards the portion of town that housed Amerald's apothecary. After all, it wasn't as though he'd never seen it, he had, on multiple occasions, noticed the shop...but being a healthy and not overly scientifically inclined creature, he'd never seen the pressing need to enter the establishment.

Now, however, was another matter entirely. Eyeing the outside pocket of his satchel, he reached down and brushed the silken feather inside...placed there so that it would not fold, tear, or otherwise become damaged in transit. Looking it up in his books, he had ascertained that it had come from a gyrfalcon, a rather large species of the bird, but... He still didn't know what the significance of the damn thing was, so he'd have to ask Amerald. There wasn't another way to decipher the riddle, or even to find out if it was just...happenstance. Mind, he was going to be extremely discomfited if his guest had not placed it there. It meant that either there had been a strange intruder in his rooms, or that there was a wild falcon hiding out in the bathroom.

Arriving, Eldrick tried the door, and allowed himself in, stepping inside in order to gaze about the little place. "Ah...hullo...?" He did hope that he hadn't come at a bad time, but it was thereabouts in the afternoon and evening hours when they'd met, the two of them. Oh stop that... He scolded himself for his own jumpy demeanor. Good lords, this was a shop, and unless they'd locked the door in his face, he was still welcome...
