"Psst! Hey, Di'Taki! Move!" Haze attempted to make the girl move but she didn't seem to be able to hear his soft hisses. North fluttered around in slight panic.

"Well what do you want me to do? I'm not going to be seen fraternizing with the enemy!" He snapped at North who fluttered out into the open and joined a orange glowbug. "I'm not going out there!"

The two male Adahy walked closer to the Di'Taki and circled her. "My my my, what do we have here? A Di'Taki on our lands?" They snapped at her and shoved her with their horns. "Don't think the festival will protect you. There's no one to see us right now. No one to see what we might do."

The Di'taki blinked as the males surrounded her, harassing her with their rather sharp horns. What were they doing? Was she not wanted here? She peered over to Haze before looking between both of her tormentors. What did they mean by 'No one to see what we might do'? She could see that North had joined her, and for a moment she was distracted - eyes widening in wonder, like they always had. Then she was shoved again, and brought back. A soft whine escaped her maw as she tried to back away into the field of insects, her ears pressed back against her neck.

Haze clenched his jaw. This Di'Taki wasn't getting it! And now she's trapped... He watched while his guilt built up in his chest.

"Great. Just great." He took a step forward. "What are you guys doing?"

They suddenly turned to him in surprise. "Oh lookie here! It's a baby Adahy out to play. You know it's dangerous here right kid?" They laughed as the spoke, continuing to prod Heliosyne with their horns.

"What are you doing? Let her go!" He shouted. "Or... or I'll tell an elder!"

He was surrounded by their mocking laughs. "Little baby is going to tell an Elder? You won't last long if you tattle about every little thing." They left Heliosyne and approached Haze. "Now... Why don't you keep your little trap shut?" Suddenly before Haze could even realize he was banged into a tree. He let out a groan of pain as he started slipping out of consciousness.

Heliosyne whimpered softly as Haze approached the two adults. She couldn't understand what was going on, but...was he helping her? It seemed like it. And then they - She screeched, a terrifying, ear-piercing scream, as the child was slammed into the tree. She might not have been able to understand their words or their reasoning, but she did understand that they had just caused the little Adahy pain. And that was unacceptable.

The Di'taki launched herself at one of the males in a flurry of teeth, claws and feathers, mauling whatever she could get her paws or maw on. The consequences of her actions would likely be severe, but she couldn't see any farther than a few seconds.

Haze's eyes popped open with the startling cry that came from Heliosyne. The world around him seemed black. He still couldn't see what was going on, the light from the glow bugs caused his sight to blur.

But he smelled blood. Haze struggled to get up. "Wait... stop...!"

Heliosyne would be punished severely for what she was doing. "You need to stop! Get away!" The two Adahy tried to escape, they hadn't expected the attack and were severely wounded by her claws. He fell to the floor again, his head woozy. "Stop..."

Her mind was running far faster than she had ever felt before - indeed, adrenaline made everything seem to move in slow motion. She could see that the attackers were fleeing, and she left them to that. By now she was shaking and her blood was beating in her ears, leaving her practically deaf to Haze's growls. Her claws were stained in a fair amount of blood, although it was faintly visible against her regular coloration. Heliosyne crept over to the child, nosing the side of his maw gently with a whine. "Alright? Alright?"

Haze could hear the beat of his heart in his ears. It muffled out the sound of anything else. Wait. What was that? Oh.... the Di'Taki. Her voice sounded warped and unclear. "A-l--ht? Alright?"

His eyes opened wide as he heard Heliosyne's voice. From the corner of his eye Haze looked for the other Adahy. They were gone; her claws were bloody. She would be chased down and would be killed for protecting him. Haze gritted his teeth.

"NO YOU STUPID DI'TAKI! I'M NOT ALRIGHT! LOOK AT WHAT YOU CAUSED!" He shouted as loud as he could muster with the pain in his chest. He needed to teach her in anyway possible that she was not welcome in these lands. She will not die because of him. "GET OUT OF HERE! I SHOULD HAVE NEVER HELPED YOU! I TRUSTED YOU AND LOOK WHAT HAPPENED; I'M WOUNDED BECAUSE OF YOU!"

Haze felt his heart beat in his ears again. Was he really saying these things? Was he really shouting so loud? It seemed so unreal-he wanted to stop-but he couldn't. He gritted his teeth. She needed to get out from this side of the lake.

Her ears flattened against her neck, startled by the loudness of the youngling's voice. Tears of frustration and sadness sprang from her multitude of eyes as she backed away. Was it her fault? Haze said it was, and she trusted Haze. Then...she shook her head as what the Adahy said sunk in.

It was her fault. It was her fault he was hurt, and it was her fault that he would get in trouble. A soft whimper built up in the Di'taki's throat and finally wiggled free as a choking sob. Suddenly, Heliosyne just wanted to run - to run back to the dark side of the lake, and forget this had ever happened.

So she did.

Heliosyne turned tail and sprinted through the field, claws digging up the soft soil of the forest as she disappeared among the glow of the glowbugs. If she had caused his problems, and she disappeared, then his problems would disappear too, right? She certainly hoped so.

But...in the end, what had gone wrong? Had she said something bad, or done something bad? Should she have let the two bigger males hurt him? No, that wasn't right. But what was wrong? She would never understand.

Though she thought she was alone, Heliosyne had picked up a friend that would stay with her. Buried in her feathers was the little glowbug that had landed on her head earlier, clinging to the vein of a plume with his little legs. He glowed faintly as the female galloped through the forest, offering a soft light to run by.

And she was gone. And Haze felt like a traitor. Was he an Adahy or not... he just betrayed his own race. Yet he couldn't say that what he did was wrong. Those Adahy were a disgrace. Haze grimaced.

He got up from the floor. The glowbugs were gone because of the commotion and only North remained. "Did I do the right thing?"

North fluttered and landed gently on Haze's head, almost compassionately. "Thanks..."

There wasn't much to do. Haze walked towards the path to his tribe and disappeared off into the shadows. He had much to think about.
