The dark cub sat down in the grass, staring right at Io as he went on a...rather passionate rant about his Mother. It was very clear to Ruka that he adored the Lioness above everyone else, and in that...she was actually kind of jealous. Her ears flattened against her head, bowing her attention down to one of the flowers sitting in front of her; it was a pretty white one. Of course it was.
"Oh." Was all she could really say back to him, tilting her head a little bit. She seemed to be thinking pretty hard, and after a moment, her attention rose to him, fixing her gray eyes on him. "So...if I give my Mama some flowers, she'll love me more?" It still seemed silly to her, but she wasn't stupid; her Mother loved her, but she loved the lighter cubs more. Wrinkling up her nose a bit, she sniffed at the white flower in front of her; maybe giving Mama a white flower would make her feel better?

Iolana frowned as he saw Ruka's face become rather troubled. Had he said something wrong? His heart sank as she spoke. He felt sad for her, if she felt like her mother didn't love her enough.
"Maybe." He offered, stepping closer to her and nudging her cheek lightly with his nose. "Your mother does love you though." He didn't know her mother, but all mothers loved their cubs, right? Maybe they didn't do as good of a job of it as his mother did, but they still loved them! "Or at least, it'll show how much you love her! Mothers love that." He smiled. "Besides, there's no reason not to love you, Ruka. You're great."
Well that came out a little strange. "I mean, you're a great friend. I like playing with you." He tried to clarify without being too strange about it, but the more he talked the more he began to stumble. "Yeah, I love you like a sister, almost. Maybe more than my sisters. Not that I don't love my sisters, but..."
Smooth.
"You know what I mean, right?"

Ruka tilted her head a bit to look at Io, smiling a little at the nudge he'd given her. As far as she knew, Iolana didn't know her Mother; but the words were still nice to hear. With a little purr she nudged her head lightly against his, a small nuzzle of thanks. Her head tilted when he continued talking, her expression turning from curiousity to...honest confusion. What was he prattling on about? While yes, awesome is a great way to describe her, what did the rest mean? She was his sister, wasn't his sister, was more than his sister? Blinking a few times at him, and giggled and shook her head.
"Nuh huh, doesn't make aaaany sense, but thank you!" She perked right back up again, wiggling in place until 'accidentally' flopping to the side to lean all of her body weight on him. "I love you too! Like a Brother but kind of more than a brother but I do love my brothers too." Was she making fun of him? A little. But did she mean it? Yes. Well, she meant it as any cub would; not knowing the meaning behind that word, other than 'this person was special'. First friends count as special, right?!
"But, I know my Mama loves me, she just loves my brothers n' sister more, 'cause...well..." Ruka clarified, still leaning against him, but looking around as though to check they were alone. "...Can you keep a secret?" Ruka whispered, her voice low as though it was the most important secret in the history of secrets.

Iolana's face went through a series of different looks in the span of only a few seconds. First he was puzzled, trying to decide how to better explain, then he was happy that she liked what he said anyway, and then he was trying to decide if she was mocking him or not.
"Well good." He giggled, "As long as we both agree." Yep, that'd work. He didn't care if both of them were confused, as long as they were confused together! So far, everything had been more fun together.
"She loves them more?" He looked a bit sad again, but then became curious. "Oh yes, I can keep a secret. I won't tell anyone, I promise." He lowered his voice to match hers, "Your my bestest friend, I don't want to get you in trouble."

"Uh huh, she loves them more." Nkiruka confirmed with a nod, her expression completely and utterly serious. She truly believed what she was about to tell him, and after looking around once more to make sure that they were alone, she lowered her head and continued to whisper.
"'Cause she doesn't know how to act around me!" Her voice was almost scandalous in tone, like this was complete truth and it was shocking, really. "I'm the only one with no white on me anywheres, you can even check!" She explained, offering to let him look her over to prove it, if he wanted.
"Mama loves me, but she can't love me like she loves my brothers n' sister, 'cause I'm too special! She doesn't know whatta do." The dark sub pouted a little bit, almost sad at having to admit this. She pawed at her nose for a moment, then blew a puff of air to ruffle her dark tuft of hair. "An' thats my secret! Remember, You promised." Because she didn't want anyone to know that she knew!

Iolana was surprised at what he heard. What kind of mother didn't know how to handle a super-special cub like Ruka? "Wow, you're right." He whispered excitedly, not finding a trace of white on her body as he scanned her pelt. "That's really interesting! Most of the pride is white, like me." He stared down at his paws which were mostly red and pink, but he knew that the majority of his body was a brilliant white.
"Of course, I won't tell anyone!" He nodded, "Not ever. That's some secret you have, Ruka!" He smiled, "So...." He flicked his tail curiously, looking around quickly the way that Ruka had been to make sure nobody was around.
"What do ya think it means?" He began to bounce slightly, "Do you think that maybe it's a sign? Maybe you're gonna do something extra special when you get older!"

Ruka nodded. "I have ONE brother that's almost as dark as me, but he's got white on him, so I'm the oooonly one." She giggled, looking down at his paws when he did. Oooh, they were a very pretty red! Her Mama had some red on her, but the rest of her family didn't have any pink on them, it was an interesting colour. She was about to comment on it when she realized he was bouncing. What was he...Oh! Doing something extra special? She never thought of that before! With a thoughtful hum, she straightened up proudly, sitting tall.
"Maybe!" She said excitedly, just about as bouncy as he was, the more she thought about it. Feeling mighty proud of herself, Ruka pranced and bounded around Io before flopping bodily on him, making a mini cub pile. "Ooh, wouldn't that be so cool?! You should help me, we'd make such a great team!" Because they both had something special about them; Ruka with her dark coat, Io with his bands of pink...that and they were friends. More importantly though, it was because Ruka decided so.
With a playful sqeauking growl, Nkiruka gummed down on Io's ear, tugging at it playfully.

"Wow, that's amazing." Iolana said, completely in awe. It was as though he was in the presence of... Of.... Well, of something super-extra special! "What ever it is that you end up doing, I'll bet it'll go down in history!" He chimed, "We'll all sing songs about you after, it'll be great!"
"Help?" Iolana tilted his head. "Yeah, that sounds great! I don't really know how, but I'll just stick with you and when it happens, I'll be there!" He nodded, "Yep, we'll be the bestest team ever!" No sooner had he finished speaking than his ear was in Ruka's mouth, causing him to growl playfully. He had been a bit startled by her gumming the first time, but he was beginning to catch on a bit. It was a game, right?
"Hehe, you got me!" He laughed, poking at her with his paw, unable to see very well with her all over his head. "I surrender!"

Ruka's ego was getting properly inflated. Io was appeasing every ounce of her being, and of course giving her more ideas and insights into her already nearly narcissistic frame of mind.
"Great! Ahem!" With a giggle at the poke and the surrender, she rolled off of him and walked around to face him, standing as tall and proud as she could, head in the air like she was royalty...though the giggled the entire time. Once she was in front of him, she reared up on her hind legs to put her front paws on his shoulders. "I, Nkiruka, decide that you, Iolana'Nafsi, are my partner in awesome forever!" She said as though she were a Queen dubbing a Knight, and with a laugh the dark cub licked her Pale friend in one swoop, from the tip of his nose and through the tuft of his pink hair.
"Noooow...lets get flowers for our Mama's! They'll be so happy."

Iolana watched her as she 'knighted' him, jumping slightly as she licked his face. This was so amazing! He was an official partner in awesome now! Today couldn't get any better! "I promise to be the best partner in awesome ever, Ruka!" He said excitedly, doing his best to ignore the fact that his little bit of mane must look quite silly now.
"Oh yeah, flowers!" He chimed, having nearly forgotten about their original goal. "Yeah, let's get them the best flowers ever and they'll be extra happy!" He began to frolic in the flowers once again, occasionally stopping to pick an extra pretty one.
Today had certainly been a wonderful day. He was sure that in addition to his flowers, his mother would be thrilled that he had made a new friend. He hummed a happy tune to himself as he went zig-zagging through the flower patch, searching for as many pretty flowers as he could find.
