He was back!
The petite mare was terribly impressed by her own success when it came to this stallion. Not only had she shrunk him down to the size of a flutter, she had also managed to banish the demon twice. As princess of the fairy kingdom her skills were vastly improving and soon she would be a force to be reckoned with! Not that she would use these powers for evil, she was a benevolent princess and wouldn't harm her people - but with them she could fight off all the evil demons in the world.
Not only would she be a hero among her people, but she would also bring glory, recognition and respect to her nation. The larger folks would have a greater opinion of her kin and life would be better for all. These dreams would have been a touch unrealistic and ridiculous to a normal soquili, but for little Meii, most seemed to make an exception. She was relatively harmless and in general terms, only seemed to cause chaos around her immediate vicinity as opposed to causing lasting damage.
To any who encountered her, if they could withstand the whirlwind of activity and eccentricity then they would be fine - Kildegard included.
Nevertheless, Kildegard had come crashing down to earth with Meii's rather rude wake up call and rather than thank her, he opted for an entirely different approach. He asked her what she was, which to be fair, confused her. She had already told him who she was, that tended to include what she was - she was the fairy princess! All things considered, the flutter felt she should have been affronted but she reminded herself that she was a benevolent and noble princess - he was under the influence of a demon and she would be considerate.
"I already told you," she replied, her nose still propped against his. "My name is Chisato Meii, I'm the fairy princess," she pointed out and then pursed her lips. The very fact that he had asked her what she was confused her, how could he not know what she was? She was a flutter like her father, although she had much tinier wings than either he or her siblings did.
"And I'm a flutter of course, how could you not know that, has the demon wiped your brain?"

Activity and eccentricity were two words that Kildegard would himself use to describe Meii. For being such a small creature, she was practically a-quiver with energy, and at the moment trying to make sense of her was like trying to catch a hummingbird by a wing. It was somewhat beneficial when she dropped the more 'elaborate' part of her princess act; that is, when she introduced herself in plain language and identified her race in no-nonsense terms. If he had actually known what a flutter was, it would have made the situation beyond simple.
As it was, the fact that she said she was a flutter meant nothing to him. For all that he had been a wanderer for years, he had never encountered or even heard of a race of Soquilis that had wings like butterflies and could change their size. Indeed, he was rather ignorant of MOST Soquili varieties, being aware only of the regulars, winged wings, unicorns, and sinister kalona. From her tone and the fact that she was definitely real, he could only guess that 'flutter' was either a mutation, or something previously unknown to him.
Or it was a creation of her mind, given the fact that she followed up that information with another 'demon' comment. He would have to figure this one out for himself, apparently. But if nothing else, it promised to be an interesting conversation, and THAT meant he likely wouldn't be drifting off any time soon. Not a bad arrangement, actually!
Composing himself a bit, he gave the mare a rueful shake of his head. "Sorry, 'flutter' doesn't ring any bells for me. I don't think I've ever heard that word before, except possibly as a verb describing wings. I'm Kildegard though, Chisatomeii, and I promise you I'm not possessed by anything." After a brief pause, he amended that to, "Anything except a spacey memory, that is."

His reference to a 'spacey memory' didn't really help matters, particularly when she had already implied that this was a direct result of demonic possession. To show this, her expression remained sceptical and largely unimpressed. Not only was he under the possession of a demon but he was also in denial about it - she began to wonder how long he had been subject to such slavery. It was a very grim state of affairs indeed and as the encounter progressed she began to wonder whether or not it was her duty to punish him on behalf of her kingdom or if she was meant to do something else. After all, she could punish him now and then find he reoffended because the root of the cause was still there!
She puzzled over this for a few moments and temporarily discarded the query about her identity. Distracted by this, it took her a while to 'zone back in' so to speak and even then she didn't respond to him immediately. In fact, it wasn't until after she'd held council in her head and rustled up another idea that she even addressed him again. Unfortunately, her response was not related to his initial question and instead, harked back to the reference to possession - she'd made up her mind. She wasn't there to tell him off at all, instead, the Fairy Kingdom had elected her as it's representative (obviously) and said Kingdom had been the one chosen by the spirits to help him.
...In short, she was going to save him.
"You can just call me Meii," she said at last and tilted her head to the side, finally placing at least an inch between her nose and his. "And you know what Kildegard?" she began, her eyes sparkling and filled with intent. "Today is your lucky day, the spirits have elected the fairy kingdom (and therefore me as their representative) to assist you in removing the demon from your person," she announced proudly. If things hadn't been weird enough for him already, they were about to become even more bizarre.
"We'll have you back to normal in no time, spaciness shooed away too," she added firmly.
"But how can you not know what a flutter is?" she asked, her brow furrowing slightly. "Everyone knows who we are, we're butterfly soquili!"

Kildegard had long since given up being ashamed about his condition; being ashamed served no purpose, and as he'd never been able to 'cure' himself of his affliction, he had instead accepted and embraced it. If nothing else, it was a good talking point, and it certainly made travel a great deal faster. True, there were the obvious negatives: He had no idea how far he had traveled, how many Soquili he'd met that he couldn't place if he were to meet again, how many things he had done that he didn't remember. Heck, for all he knew he could even have a child or two running around that he didn't know of (though he really, REALLY hoped that was not a case; careless fathering of kids went way beyond ignorance!).
Yes, he'd accepted his affliction; but never once had he considered it a case of demonic possession or any other sort of otherworldly curse. He was a pragmatic sort and tried to look for logical reasons for things...even when such reasons failed to exist. It was questionable what his opinion would be if he knew that he was going to be the subject of a purification quest...
Well, at least it would be different.
"Alright, Meii." He accepted the short-hand version of her name with good grace, grace all the more remarkable in the face of her face in his face! It was a bit awkward, to be sure, but he wasn't going to push her back out of the way or step back himself; he had the strong suspicion that she was the short of Soquili who would simply follow him, so he might as well stay put.
Good thing, too, because that way she got a great view of his blank stare in response to her declaration. Not his thousand-yard stare, of course: A basic, run-of-the-mill 'are you for real' stare that didn't need any explanation or clarification. It was tough to say which element was stranger at this point; the idea that she was going to 'exorcise' him, the fact she was so very proud of herself, the fact that she was so confident, or the fact that she seemed to think being a butterfly was a common occurrence. It was enough to send him into a blackout for weeks, were he to go that path, so it was just as well that he was so focused on her at the moment. This was a meeting he definitely wanted to remember through!
"We'll have to get back to the demon thing, because I have to say that I've never heard of flutters OR butterfly Soquili before. Never heard one, never seen one, never knew they existed until now, but here you are. Are there many of you?" He peeked over her shoulder curiously, looking at the incredibly tiny wings that decorated her back. Compared to the wings of the winds he'd seen, they were impossibly small, and he found himself a bit skeptical that she could lift off with them at the moment. True, she'd flown with them when she was small, and they'd really had the same proportion at that point...

A stare that needed no explanation of clarification unless they were Meii. Unfortunately for Kildegard, this particular mare was immune to such incredulous looks and allowed them to wash over her like water off a duck's back. To her it was just a normal stare, perhaps even one of awe! He was astounded by her great courage and her generosity, the fact that someone had finally answered his prayers and he had been given the help he so desperately needed. He was going to get better and there were no words for this, this was what his stare meant to her.
Well, no one said she was completely sound of mind! Delusional probably would have been an accurate description of her current mental state but it had never done her on anyone else harm so no one had really complained. To be perfectly honest, the vast majority of people elected to completely ignore her or to humour her until they got bored and decided to leave her little world. The very fact that Kildegard had humoured her for so long was a miracle, though no one could guess how long he would last.
Still, when he broached the subject of her species again she couldn't help but release an exasperated sigh. She began to wonder if he had been living under a rock with all these strange questions. Flutter soquili were fairly numerous in number, if he hadn't seen any then he'd either not been looking for them (sometimes they were small) or he'd probably stepped on them.
...She mourned their loss. Their sacrifices had been noble.
"Well now you have seen one," she replied patiently and lifted a brow. "And yes there are plenty of us about, we're all over the place, you're just not looking hard enough. For all you know you could have squished some of us!" she pointed out, her lips pursing as if to indicate that she wouldn't appreciate that at all. "If you have squished them then you're going to have to repent for that too - that in mind, we need to get that demon out of you as soon as possible. We just can't afford any more casualties!"

Had Kildegard been privy to the analysis Meii made of what was (to him, and almost everyone else in the world) a completely self-explanatory stare, he would have made the determination that his problems were nothing compared to her's. After all, what was blacking out from the waking world beside completely denying the waking word to begin with? While Kildegard had a respect for the spirits and their other-worldly abilities, he was essentially pragmatic and took things as they could be seen, felt, heard, smelled, tasted...fairies and demonic possessions were firmly outside of that realm.
Though if he were being honest, until just now flutters would have been outside of that realm as well! Her assessment of his obvious state if he hadn't seen them was laughable, but at least part of it was probable: he'd never once been looking for a flutter. Then again, why would he be looking for something that he had no idea existed? For all he knew, he might have encountered one of the race before during one of his spaced-out periods, but as no recollections from those times ever stayed with him, this particular meeting would be the first.
"Yes, I will agree that I now have seen one, but you in turn will have to be honest with me, Meii; if you're all so small part, most, or all of the time, and I never knew you all existed, then I'd have no reason to be looking for you." She did raise a valid point on the squishing thing, though, and he fervently hoped that he'd never actually done such a thing. His autopilot was pretty good for the most part; he was able to avoid obstacles with relative ease, but how skilled he'd be at avoiding something that small and unknown... "Hopefully your fellow flutters would have seen me coming and moved out of the way; if I wasn't paying attention, then I wouldn't have been moving too fast. But I am deeply sorry if there were any that I squished." And he was, too; until now, he'd never had to worry about inflicting harm on another while blacked out before!
As to the demon, well...that he was just going to let slide for now. No sense in over-exciting this over-excitable mare any more than necessary!

He had her there... Even the fairy princess couldn't dispute that argument in some respects. If he'd never been raised on fairy stories then he would never go looking for them. For all she knew, he could have been deprived of such tales as a child and as a consequence, had no inclination or belief that such mythical creatures existed. With this in mind she would hazard a guess that he didn't believe in mersoquili, kelpis or seathi either - but she did, since she had seen them with her own eyes and her mother had raised her on stories and legends like those. Alas, one might have suspected that Nagual didn't anticipate her child would take such things literally, had she known then perhaps her mother might have been more careful with her fairy stories.
...Fairy princess, indeed!
Nevertheless, so long as her delusions caused no harm to either herself or those around her then one could probably excuse the petite mare. Consider her eccentric if you must, but she was harmless when it really boiled down to the fine details.
"I would like to think they did, but sometimes it's not that easy to see over the tall grasses you know," she pointed out warningly. "You should be more careful where you walk in future, or stomp extra hard so they can feel you coming and scatter," she advised. It was reasonable advice when you considered where it was coming from! However, with this advice now given she did push away from the stallion, hopped back a little on her hind legs and then dropped to all fours again.
"That aside, we need to go and purge that demon of yours so that you're free to live again without possession so we better get cracking!" She announced. Well, at least no one could say that she wasn't efficient at getting what she wanted done...?

Touche, fairy princess; it was entirely plausible that if one were the size of a bug and down on the ground amidst the prairie grasses that one wouldn't notice an approaching Soquili until it was too late; of course, that itself begged the question of why, if they were able to change size with as relative ease as Meii had done, would they choose to be small and in danger of being squished anyway? Being small surely had benefits, such as being able to hide easily, escape notice, need less food, annoy those that you especially wanted to annoy, but those advantages were offset by slow speed, general vulnerability, ease of loss...
It was a swift and insidious process, but the thoughts, piling up one after the other, produced the usual result. Once again, his eyes dimmed and he retreated into his thoughts, trying to determine whether the benefits of being small outweighed the dangers and difficulties. Having never been able to be small himself, he just knew what it was like to be large. Maybe he'd have to try and track down a few more flutters and ask them about how their lives differed when they were large versus when they were small!

"Oh my gawd, you're doing it again!" she shrieked. The exasperation was clear in her tone as she watched his eyes glaze over and he once again zoned out. That demon was a very determined one indeed, intent on destroying the fairy kingdom or at the very least escaping from the clutches of the mighty fairy princess. You see it knew it was going to lose and as such, was working overtime to try and get the stallion out of her world so that she couldn't save him. Well that just wouldn't do at all, she wasn't going to allow that to happen on her watch.
It would be a wonder if Kildegard didn't end up with massive amounts of bruising.
Puffing out her cheeks, the mare gave an annoyed squeak and unceremoniously reared up once more. Smacking her hooves firmly into her chest she leant forward again and smacked her nose to his. Unfortunately she hadn't really timed that move to perfection and this time, hit herself a little harder than intended to. While her desire was to come across as dignified, the effect was was lost - after all, everyone knew that when you smacked your nose your eyes immediately began to well up with tears.
"Owwww," she muttered before sucking in another breath. "HEY!" she yelled, disregarding the mild throbbing in her nose as she spoke. "YOU GIVE HIM BACK DEMON! I WON'T LET YOU TAKE HIM!" she roared.
"You have to fight him! Don't give in to the deeeeeemon!" she howled dramatically.

Meii and Kildegard (more Kildegard than Meii) were fortunate in two things. given the current situation: one, that Meii, even at her 'large' size, was a dainty mare, and two, that Kildegard was a somewhat sturdy stallion. Consequently, he was able to take another set of hooves to the chest and a bash to the nose without so much as having to step backwards to brace himself. It DID knock the wind out of him for a moment, though, and the hit to his tender nose was enough to bring him wincing back to the present. "Ouch..."
It would take a far less experienced fellow than him to see the mare suddenly reared up against his chest, feel the pain in his nose, and NOT connect the dots; therefore his immediate reaction (alongside of the pain, of course) was contrition. Contrition, closely followed by deafness as the mare's bellow of challenge blasted his newly attentive eardrums. Wincing once again, he started to step back at that point...but stopped when he realized that would dump the mare rather unceremoniously into the grass. "I'll work on that, I promise! Just remember that I'm in here myself; it'll make things easier for both of us."
At times like this, it really was a pity he didn't have hands. Goodness knows his ears would have appreciated the cover! But he'd just have to make the best of it; after all, she obviously meant well, and her tactics were certainly effective! If a trifle painful.
"Sorry about that. It has a habit of creeping up on me, and the next thing I know, I'm coming back to things without knowing how I got there or how long I've been gone." A straightforward definition, if he did say so himself! "Resisting is, and always has been, a challenge, because I rarely realize it's happening." It was both a blessing and a curse, but he was much more inclined to go with curse these days...but it was his life, and that was all there was to it.

Meii still hadn’t quite recovered from her bumped nose and the tears were still in her eyes. All in all, the mare resembled a wounded puppy at the moment as opposed to the noble royal that she aspired to be. Moments like this revealed her to be the vulnerable creature she really was, having only just entered adulthood she was still partial to her childish ways. Then again, if her ‘fairy kingdom’ hadn’t alerted anyone to that fact then they would have needed their head’s tested!
Still, she was big enough not to cry over her unfortunate collection and although the tears still remained, they didn’t appear to have any intention of tumbling down her cheeks. She’d recover her composure eventually, right after she’d blinked a few times and the throbbing had stopped. She’d really misjudged the distance that time and had suffered the consequences for it – but hey, it had worked to return him to this world and he was talking to her again. Meii was victorious though even she was beginning to wonder how long that would last, for all she knew, in mere moments the demon could over take him again. However he was fortunate in the sense that she was starting to recognise the signs, he was less fortunate that her solution was so unladylike.
“I know you’re in there but you don’t listen when you’re yelled at,” she pointed out, relying on her past experiences with him whereby he had ignored her until she had been a little more abrupt. She’d had to get in his face the first time too and it was only then that he appeared to be able to break through the demon’s control and see her. “So I have to do something or else you’ll never be able to keep your mind!” she pulled a face, an indication that this would be a true tragedy. After she’d made this observation Kildegard was treated to a very rare moment of silence – or he would have been if he hadn’t been the one speaking.
...Yes, as unusual as it might have seemed, Chisato Meii was capable of listening.
“So you how long have you had this problem for?” she asked finally after his revelation had set in. She hadn’t anticipated such honesty, or really an explanation of why it kept happening but from what he had said, he’d had this demon inside him for a while now. “What did you disturb to be subjected to this?” she puzzled, although the second query was largely directed at herself as she voiced it.
The cogs were turning.
She was up to something again.
She had to be.

To be fair, the last time Meii had tried to get his attention by yelling alone she'd been about the size of his ear and with lungs to match, so that didn't seem quite like a fair comparison. Or at least, that was the way Kildegard remembered things, which actually meant that it was likely he HAD completely missed regular sized Meii yelling at him. Though that would be odd to contemplate, as volume coupled with a direct non-yes-or-no question tended to be a good way to snap him back to reality, as answering such a question required thought. Usually.
It was ironic how often thinking about his disorder triggered blank episodes, and he had to sternly bring himself back around even now thinking about it. Had poor Meii been a different sort of Soquili, she might very well have given him up for hopeless by now and left him with a bell tied around his neck to warn other flutters that he was near!
As it was, she was being a very good-humored sort of creature, if a little eccentric, and Kildegard had to admit that, bruised sternum and bashed nose aside, he was enjoying this little interlude. Reality or not, it was nice to have something new and unusual to distract him from himself!
Having so short an acquaintance with Meii, he actually didn't realize the significance of her silence in listening to him, taking it for granted that conversation involved one person speaking and all others listening. It was rather shameful for him to admit that he often stopped listening when he was supposed to, but that was more because he got distracted than any disinterest in the conversation topic. But he was doing decently at the moment, in both the listening AND talking departments!
At her question, he cocked his head to one side, considering for a moment before shrugging. "All my life, I guess. I don't really recall a time when I didn't just...wake up somewhere and not know how I'd got there, sporting bruises I didn't know the origins of. It's pretty much been the story of my life; all I can figure is that I knocked something when I was a kid and it made me highly susceptible to daydreams."
He didn't really have a response for her second question and doubted, from her way of speaking, that she expected one. Nothing he could say would likely trump the idea of demon possession, which was one thing he was reasonably confident in ruling out!

It wouldn't have been unlike Meii to elect to put a bell around his neck, but this idea hadn't quite come to mind and for the time being, Kildegard was safe from such a humiliation. However, in due course she might discover that this was a viable (if temporary) solution to his problem while she took measures to investigate his demonic possession and to locate an appropriate priest to exorcise him. That being said, it would also be a viable solution to put a collar on him and tug him around by a leash so she didn't lose him - after all, how was she supposed to cure him if she couldn't find him?
"So something did happen," she mused, now back in the present after she had listened to his explanation. He wasn't able to pinpoint precisely what had happened, but he had said something had happened as a child. Did this mean that he had been attacked by this spirit as a child? No wonder he couldn't fight back anymore, his defences were severely weakened!
"That's so sad," her features fell at this, her expression a touch grave. To think he had been wandering around like this for years, ending up with injuries that had no immediate explanation. One had to wonder how many fights he'd gotten into, how many of the flutter kingdom he had accidentally hurt or worse. It made her more determined than ever to make sure he recovered.
"How you tried to get help before now or has the demon not let you?" she enquired with a tilt of her head.

Wearing a bell around his neck was just what Kildegard needed to be a truly ridiculous personage, so he would be sure not to mention such a thing to the excitable flutter. He had accepted her existence as fact, but had yet to determine what he thought of her beyond that; she was as excitable and fanciful as any foal, as well as opinionated! She was good at holding and keeping his attention, but she was also very confusing in her logic and had managed to drive him back into his own mind on more than one occasion.
But if nothing else, it was an interesting conversation, the like of which he hadn't had for some time!
At her question, he mused thoughtfully for a few minutes before shrugging. "If it did, I don't remember; but then, I don't remember a lot. I'm used to it, though, and manage to co-exist with whatever it is pretty well. Considering that no one really knows what this issue of mine even is, I've never really had any idea how to stop it." With a chuckle, he amended that to state, "and I don't know what I'd do if I did, for that matter."

Well he really was a mystery now wasn't he? With so many blank spots in his memory he was proving to be of absolutely no help to her in her pursuit to cure him. In fact, his blank spots were so bad that he couldn't even remember if he'd sought out help before now. This led to a string of questions and all of them seemed to boil down to one key point - if he couldn't remember that, then did that mean he would forget about her? If he forgot about her then she would estimate that by this string of logic, he would forget about his promises and apology. That made what he said of absolutely no use to her at all!
Her cheeks puffed out at her inner musings and her expression resembled that of a petulant child as she regarded him again. She was quickly becoming aware of a very critical point - if she couldn't trust him to remember his words, let alone keep them, then she couldn't really let him wander freely in her kingdom. He would be too much of a danger and too much of a liability to wander freely in her kingdom. So what on earth was she meant to do with him now?
She tutted.
Really, what it boiled down to was that she couldn't let him wander about on his own, he was going to need an escort.
However, something did pique her interest in what she said and she returned her gaze to him, temporarily casting her inner musings to one side. She wasn't sure if she'd heard it right, but she was nearly sure that he had said he'd be a loss for something to do if he found a cure. How could he say that, there was plenty to do and better yet, he'd remember it all!
"Well you could start having fun for a start," she pointed out wrily. "Then you could make friends, learn new things, savour new sights and remember it all," she added, making sure to emphasise the fact that his memories were a valuable commodity indeed. "You can fill up your day with a lot of things you know, which is far better than forgetting half of your life..."
