Kayin nodded in return, wondering if he had done something wrong by speaking. If she did not speak..? But the herds did not seem to notice, or be concerned, so he supposed it was alright. He would, however, refrain from such things in the future. If they hunted together again. He hoped they would though, he was enjoying her company. Even though they had just met... was that odd? Maybe he should ask someone about that? But who? Mother? Kafele? Or would Jabari know and spare him bothering someone else?

Somehow though, this did not seem like a question most would be asking after... it felt more...private? For now at least.

Besides, there were other matters to be considering.

As soon as the lioness moved he darted after her. He had not hunted before, not proper prey like this. But the concept was not hard to determine. And as Iaeratu lunged for her chosen target, Kayin whipped around to help corner it, and then sprang for the kill. Neck and head, if he crushed them it would die and then a family would be fed. One paw reached the side of it's head, the other slammed into a shoulder, and as his teeth found its throat the shrieking stopped. Perhaps he'd overdone it, but then, he'd never tried to hunt a zebra before. He was afraid it might kick the lioness or something if he didn't kill it thoroughly and quickly enough...

Iaeratu, to be honest, had not expected much from her hunting companion. He seemed unsure of his actions, but even if he was bad at it, she could make up for his lack of skills and hopefully take down the prey anyway, and then a whole family would be fed, rather then just one or two with smaller prey. She didn't mind hunting smaller prey, but really, it was so much easier if she was able to take down Zebra and other larger beasts.

As she swiped at the zebra, careful to keep hold of it, she was surprised at the accuracy of Kayin's attack, and how quickly he had grasped onto the concept of hunting. It wasn't a hard one, but some people struggled with it. In the struggle, she was thankfully not kicked, but when the shrieks of the creature died out, and it stopped moving, she was winded from the struggle, and could only pant for a moment. The carcass was a large one, and already she was thinking of some of the larger families who could use the meat.

She detached her claws from the now dead Zebra, and glanced at Kayin. She had sank her mouth into the back of the creature to try and keep it further pinned, so there was specks of red around her mouth, but she still did not look threatening - not to another lion at least.

"Well done," she conceding, sounding...grateful, and surprised - as if she didn't expect him to do so well. "You have potential as a hunter."

His white mane, or what he had of one, seemed to show the blood very well. It disturbed him, a little, at how mindnumblingly easy it had been to kill the zebra. Letting go of the throat, he discovered that he’d mangled it rather thoroughly. How much difference between a lion and a zebra? He’d been trained as a warrior but…really. If the same skills applied to a hunter or huntress, than how many more lions and lionesses had the power within reach to fight against the Shatkona and his Ligi?

”…thank you,” he said shyly when she said he had potential. He might need to discuss this with mother, it was an…interesting idea. She’d probably already thought of it though. Or Jabari had. They were the great thinkers, the planners, the clever and smart ones. Kayin wasn’t particularly special in any way. But if what she said was truth and not just trying to make him feel better, and he had got the Zebra after all, then maybe when all was said and done he could join her as a hunter. It would be something useful for him to do, a way to contribute.

”I don’t think I could have done it without such good guidance. Thanks for showing me,” Kayin added, grinning at the beautiful huntress before looking back down at their kill. ”Do we need to take it somewhere?” he asked after a moment. It did look a bit large, but he was pretty sure he could manage it…

Iaeratu looked surprised at his compliment in returned, and offered him another small smile - this one more gentle. "You're welcome," she told him, sounding slightly awkward about it, but still pleased. "It was easy to teach someone so willing to learn." And it was. Some people just weren't made for hunting. Some got freaked out by blood, others got freaked out by death and some just hated to run. Kayin seemed to have no problems with any of that.

She glanced down at the Zebra and nodded her head. "I know a family who needs it," she told him. "Grab onto the other leg," she continued. They'd struggle to lift the beast between them even, but if they dragged it, they could take it to where it needed to go.

She bent her head to grasp at the front leg, close to the shoulder joint so as not to simply tear the muscles. The family had been in dire need of food for a while, and supplying small hares or gazelles was only keeping them alive, not helping them live. With Kayin's help, they would get food and Iaeratu found proud of that. They had done something to help. Perhaps all Lords weren't that bad.

"Let's go," she encouraged, eager to get to the family with the food.

Willing to learn? He smiled, ducking his head to paw at a patch of dirt for a moment, oddly embarrassed. He liked to learn new things, and he liked that it pleased his teachers when he did. Until now that had only ever been his mother, Indira. But now... well. He was supposed to be training, right? Learning new things most assuredly counted as such. And he'd done something good for others too. That was most definitely something he could be pleased by.

"Alright, just lead the way," Kayin tried another smile, more openly this time, before ducking to seize the other leg. He watched where she gripped hers, closer to the body, and followed suit. It was a large kill though, and while he wasn't certain he could move it alone, he was definitely going to make sure she didn't get stuck with the brunt of the weight, not if he could help it. He was strong, both from his training and a much healthier childhood than many of the unlucky members of the pride. Someday something would be done about that, the Chosen One would rise, and then Kayin's training would be proven useful to aid the hero of prophecy in his ascension.

Iaeratu though, she did things now. She fed those who were hungry. A family who needs it, she'd said. Maybe he could help her more often. Certainly he'd love to find a way to be more in her company...
