Kaantaa looked at her and smiled with a soft sigh "this old thing" she looked down at it. She knew the girl would say that anybody in there right mind would. She shook her head "no this is something that will never be mended." She sighed and nodded placing it on the work table.

"You shouldn't worry about it being runined nothing will come of this thing anymore." On closer expection there was mending down to it over time just hidden very well. She tapped the table and walked away heading towards the back of the room. There was a door off the side she struggled to open it but got it open.

Kaantaa coughed as a puff of dust came out of the changing closet. There were other garments hanging in the room she dusted somethings out of the room. Heading for another window prying it open she walked back to the room. Changing into a jinbei so not to dirty her clothes anymore. It took only a few moments though the stockings took loner. She walked out the room leaving the door open. Kaantaa looked around the room for a place she could place her clothing that were foldly neatly in her arms.

At Kaantaa's insistence, Lydda found herself unable to refuse, and as the constellation went into the spare room to change and start cleaning, the Twilif began unloading the few delicate treasures she'd kept in her lantern: a worn map, another cloth close to the same size but much larger and thicker, tied with a ribbon matching the one in her hair, and a small leather pack of tools. She tentatively laid them out on the kimono, noting the several times it had been re-stitched and deciding that it was still of good quality, just worn and used. Most treasured things were.

Unrolling her leather pouch revealed several tools, including the ones she needed for fixing the glass, as well as a small pouch that jingled softly until she clamped a fist around the few coins she had, setting them under the rolled-up scrolls. It didn't look like much, but it was all she really needed.

Turning her attention back to her lantern, Lydda did her best to let the sounds of Kaantaa cleaning fall to the background, part of her mind still alert and listening in case the constellation should decide to try for her attention. The glass of the lantern was cracked and jagged, but not unrepairable: it would simply require a delicate hand, and Lydda certainly had that. With a sigh, she settled down and got to work. The other woman had seemed to not have heard the attempt at small talk, which was fine by Lydda, who would need a few moments of concentration to get started unless she intended to burn herself. Almost absently, she started humming, a small frown of concentration on her lips as she traced the line of the fractured surface, her finger returning uncut.

"How long have you two known each other?" The sound of her own voice startled Lydda from her thoughts, causing her to slice her finger slightly on the sharp edge with a soft, almost inaudible noise as she quickly pulled back. It served her right, she thought wryly, and would teach her to let her mind wander and open her mouth while working.

Kaantaa noted many of the things that she had left behind when she left this place. Many memorable things and many things that she would rather forget. She pulled up an old box that brought a smile to her face until she opened it. Her face went very dark within the box were photos and a necklace. Kaantaa seemed thoroughly pissed off at seeing these lost items.

She wanted to forget certain things and this just dredged up some horrible memories for her. Kaantaa felt something boiling within her some of the jewelry hanging over the table bean to hum and glow with a darkly blue slightly.

She was snapped out of it thanks to Lydda's question about her and Mama-kun's past. "Oh um" she was having a bit of a hard time focusing on the question. "Well" she couldn't even finish her statement nor did she hear the cry of Lydda or smell the blood which is something she would normally be able to detect.

The coppery taste of blood tickled the back of Lydda's throat, the slice cleaning up easily and proving to be relatively shallow, more show than anything. Pressure sealed off any other signs of the wound, though she would make sure to take care of it later when Kaantaa wasn't busy. There would be time, for certain, especially if she had teo fully temper the glass instead of just mend it

The sound of cleaning and scuffling stopped, filling the room with silence as Lydda went to work on her lantern, so still that the air seemed almost oppressive. Looking up from her work, Lydda saw the last of Kaantaa's smile fade into a clouded expression of pain and even rage. Whatever was in the box must have been something best forgotten. A couple of times it sounded like the constellation was attempting to speak, but after a word or two, she'd fall silent again.

"Is everything okay?" she asked tentatively, watching Kaantaa carefully for any other signs of a darker reaction.

Kaantaa gasped and a few jewels dropped from the table as she snapped out of it. To make somebody worry about here was something Kaantaa disliked. She smacked her cheeks and shook her head letting out a big sigh. Her face was red and a little puffy she was regretting doing that now. "I am so sorry darlin" she smiled slightly her eyebrows furrowed, not sure if she should walk over there or not. She stepped closer to Lydda hesitantly not sure if she would scare the girl from her recent downfall.

Kaantaa didn't know how to explain what just happened it was easy in her head. However, it was rather difficult to explain to somebody that she was letting her past get the better of her.

The constantly seemed lost in thought and utterly twitchy, nearly jumping and dropping a few trinkets as Lydda's words broke through her mental fog and memories. The Twilif just shook her head and gave a small smile.

"No, it's okay. I just wondered; you looked upset." She tucked a piece of snowy white hair behind her ear, ready to get back to work but also wanting to do the polite, proper thing as she normally would have done, even if it was a complete stranger. Somehow, Lydda had never really been one to express her life story on a whim, though her current quest was an exception. After all, how else would she discover if anyone knew anything unless she asked and brought it up?

"You don't have to say anything if you don't want to. I'd understand completely if you'd rather just set it aside. But I'm not really doing anything that is going to swallow up my whole attention just yet, either. That part comes later." Her gaze fell back over her shoulder, to where Mama-kun had left for the customers. Maybe a change of topic would be helpful.

"So what sort of shop is this? I mean, do you guys have a specialty, or is it just sort of a catch-all?" A dark, burnt-amber finger traced along the sharp crack in her lantern as the Twilif tried to decide on how much glass was needed for the repair, or if it just needed to be mended. Thankfully, it would not require anything to stain the glass to match.

Kaantaa took a deep breathe and smiled this youngling was consoling her. She knew this wouldn't do she needed to take a better hold of her emotions. "Sorry darlin I didn't mean to make you worry."

She held her broom and walked over to Lydda with a warm smile "now that is a tale that is best left for a rainy day." Her past was something she liked to leave as a mystery a rather dark one. It had all the makings of great story love, betrayal, villains and heroes. It all deepened on how it was told if it would be a great one.

She giggled with a wink "now about this shop well." She let out a deep sigh "this place was something I owned in a past life" smiles and snickers "like you said a catch-all kind of place. You came here with a problem we give you some tea and a solution kind of."

She let out a sigh leaning her head on her broom "oh the times we had in this place." She smiled and thought about the people she met and the places she went for them.

It's okay,” Lydda assured the constellation, waving aside the apology before going back to concentrate on her project. The story would have helped to pass the time, but the Twilif didn't delude herself that others would spill their life story for the sake of propriety. Sometimes she forgot that others were like her, though perhaps with different motivations. Still, same principle, different application.

She wondered at the snicker but let it pass, lips pursed as she picked up a tool and carefully began removing the broken shards, nodding at Kaantaa's explanation. “Catch-all” was a good term for the place, right up there with “colorful” and “eccentric.”

That's nice,” she said as Kaantaa smiled at the better memories. “Plenty of things need fixing, but problems can be really difficult sometimes, can't they?” At least, in her mind they were. That's why they were problems.

Kaantaa pulled up a stool abandoning her cleaning as she sat down on it. She really didn't have any mind in cleaning anything anymore it was all to troubling for her. She had her back against the table and pushed her hair out of her face.

The color of this eye is a lot darker than the more visible one. She took a few deep breathes and the color returned to normal. The hair was bothering her and she would cut it but liked it to much. She pushed her hair back getting up she looked up for a small box on one of the shelves. Letting her hair go she found the box dusty she blew it off.

Walking back over to the work table putting it down "yes that is true." The box held all types of hair accessories in it of all colors very skillfully made. The box wasn't very large thirteen inches long eight inches wide and six inches deep. She pulled some pins out and began pinning her hair back piece by piece.

Kaantaa smiled at her "Though I am speaking for myself I don't know how others might feel." She sighed plopping down on the stool. "Life has many problems it all depends on you on how to deal with them. You can try to fix them yourself or you can ask somebody for help." Sighs rubbing her neck she put her arm on the table making sure not to mess with Lydda's work space.

"It is funny how you learn so much in hindsight" she looked to the side. "If I knew the things that I knew now I wouldn't have trusted her" he face was becoming gloomy again she placed her head on the desk. Took a deep breathe and lifted it back up this time her eyes had pupils.

Lydda shifted in her seat as she worked, allowing glancing up at the constellation joined her and shoved some of her ash blond hair from her face, revealing an eye slightly darker than the other. The Twilif glanced longer for a moment then returned to her attention to the task at hand. Perhaps that was why Kaantaa wore her hair over it, to prevent obnoxious, curious stares. She wrinkled her nose lightly as the dust blew off and into her direction, setting her project down to glance at the kiln thoughtfully.

It sounded as though the constellation were quoting something she had heard before, but it made sense, so Lydda nodded. It was true, in any case, though the Twilif was more likely to do things independently, herself.

"Sometimes it's hard, looking back," Lydda said thoughtfully, studying her work. "But hindsight comes with experience, doesn't it? So you really can't have one without the other." She shook her head and glanced at Kaantaa again, this time noticing both her eyes had changed from before, again saying nothing. Though she was curious, she knew when and when not to say anything. If Kaantaa wanted her - a mere stranger - to know, then she'd say something.

"Do you suppose it'd be all right if I used the kiln for a small while?" She indicated the broken glass, which had been cut away and a new piece inserted. "It needs to meld together."

Kaantaa forgets that her own eyes show her emotions when she tries to hide them. She gave a closed mouth yawn as she blinked a few times. Her eyes were slowly changing back to normal just taking a long time.

She laughed a hearty laugh that held no ill will or mocking tone in it. "Wow it is always refreshing to hear young ones speak in a mature way. It is true you can't not have one without the other." She smiled and nodded her eyes were back to normal once more. "It is just nature in wanting to fight it and be able to be so different. Everyone seeks the light but forgets you need darkness to create it. A world that is just black and white doesn't make sense. Yet people still wish to define it that way" her last few statements sounded as if she were speaking to herself.

She giggled "sweetie you don't need to ask I said you could use the workshop. You are very polite hun but I won't bite you."

Lydda seemed more at ease as Kaantaa's eyes returned to normal, though it did take a while. She'd seen other 'folk with particular abilities that could affect their appearance, but there was something in the atmosphere of this particular constellation when the change happened that seemed to put the Twilif on edge. She gave a slightly relieved smile that turned wry as Kaantaa commented on her maturity.

"Comes with my own experience, I suppose," she mused, shrugging one of her shoulders. She'd seen enough in her travels to know that regretting one's past was fruitless. If you wanted something bad enough at the time, then you went for it. It may not have been the wisest of choices, but regretting it only let the problem fester. Learning from it and moving on, however, was another thing entirely.

"True; besides, black and white make gray, so there's bound to be at least a little variation." Realizing that she probably made no sense, Lydda just gave another, sheepish laugh as Kaantaa called her sweet, of all things.

"Sorry about that. Sometimes I go a little off track in my thoughts." She gave a self conscious grin, wondering how she'd managed not swallow her kneecap yet and deciding that thinking about it would only jinx whatever lucky streak she was on.

"Thank you. I know you gave me the okay, but I guess I can't help it. Sometimes people say one thing, but the meaning gets construed along the way." Gently hopping down from the stool, Lydda went over to the kiln and checked to be sure no other items were in it before stoking the coal furnace beneath and letting it heat up.

"So if your friend runs the shop, does that mean you travel out of town?" It suddenly struck her that maybe there was a reason, a purpose to meeting this constellation in the street. Maybe, if she had traveled far enough, she might have heard something that could help Lydda on her own journey.

Kaantaa gave a half smile not sure how she should responde to Lydda. The girl obviously had something in her past that made her so mature. Sometimes that past is not always so pleasant and forces one to mature. She drifted off slightly thinking about her own problems.

Kaantaa sighed and sat up she could only shake her head thinking about the fact that she was dwelling on her past too much. There was nothing she could do about her past "if you stay in the past to long you lose your present" she mumbled this to herself.

She missed most of what Lydda had said only noting the twilif when she was walking over to the kiln. "Oh" realizing she was being rude almost forgetting the child in her own shameless thought. "Kind of I do a lot of trading so you could say I travel a lot. This shop was going to be abandon and she stood up to take it over. I prefer to stay in the mountains" she nodded leaning back on the table focusing on Lydda.
