His moon. Oh his moon. She was so wonderful. So pretty. So kind. So innocent the way she fell from the sky and got trapped in the swamp. The way he rescued her from that monster of a bush. Oh... there just wasn't words to describe her. She was so wonderful! She shined so brightly above him, and looked over him. She was always beside him in the sky. His very soul was wrapped around her very being. When she was down, he would lift her back up.
The stag grinned. "Words cannot describe how wonderful my moon is."
He paused to think, and looked at the doe. "What is your mate like?"

She could understand, when he said that. How would she begin to describe Darker Dream? He was.. well... he..
He wasn't so much shy as clueless, and he wasn't so much quiet and brooding as much as that his mind was probably perpetually blank. And he wasn't so much arrogant as just indifferent.
The doe sighed. Why had she chosen a buck like that? She would never dare to admit it, either; she would wait for him to tell her he loved her, even if it took an infinity. He hadn't even realised she was a girl until.. well, a while ago. But it was probably because of all that that she'd fallen hopelessly for him.. And the fact that he had no idea what 'pretentious' meant, at all. She'd had enough of those bucks who threw compliments at her freely; she knew they didn't mean it.
To him, she thought, she was just herself.
It wasn't until a while later that she realised she still hadn't answered Stargarden. But she didn't know what to say to him, and thought it better to disregard the question.
"Look," she says, "The rain is stopping. I can see the stars."

Stargarden hadn't even remembered he asked a question about this strange being's mate when she moved onto the rain stopping. He looked up. He could once again see the stars, however, he was saddened that he could not see his love. She seemed to be hiding on him, or maybe those darn clouds were holding her captive. The stag growled in the back of his throat at the thought of it. How dare they! Why he ought to fly up there and show them a thing or... no, he had to escort this doe first!
"They are beautiful, calling to me once again," he murmured.
"Do you want lots of offspring to share with your mate?" He found himself asking, half thoughtfully thinking of his own mate.

"They are beautiful, indeed. Sometimes it feels as if the stars talk to me, too, telling me things. But it is the way they laugh that I like the most."
She paused slightly.
"Do you think of your Moon, when you look into the sky?" Evening Star saw sadness and longing in the stag's eyes, and found herself wondering what had become of his mate. But she did not dare to ask.
When he asked a question, instead, she was momentarily taken aback. Lots of offspring? The doe blushed slightly at the thought of that; she pictures herself and Darker Dream together. Their children, she thought, would grow up, leave, and eventually start their own families. But she would always be there with him.
She chuckled softly, imagining his reaction to their children. Possibly even grandchildren someday.
"Yes," she found herself saying, her eyes shining as she looks at Stargarden. "Yes, I would want lots of children."

His Moon was in the sky. At least, he thought so. Everytime he looked up into the sky, he seen her. He longed for her. He felt protected by her watchful light. Her soft heavenly glow. He was reminded that while they may be apart physically his being of the night sky was always embracing her, holding her softly. Slowly, Stargarden's eyes looked high into the sky, his Moon appearing from behing a cloud. Oh, how lovely she looked today.

After a long, long moment the stag looked away from his moon, from the sky and finally to the doe. "Always," he said.
He had to take a moment to think. What was she saying? Oh yes. Children. Lots of children. If anything, this little doe should have many, many children with her mate so they can be happy together forever and a day. They should be what him and his moon is. Together forever.
"If that is your wish, I'll share your wish as well. Please have many, many children. Never let your mate go. Be happy."
It was a small wish on a light in the sky.

It made her smile and tear up slightly, the way he looked at the moon. She raised her head, too, to admire it; somehow, the glow of the moon seemed warmer today. Perhaps it was because Stargarden was with her.
"Thank you," she said. "For keeping me company on the way here. I will always remember you, and your moon. I hope you will have a chance to see her someday soon. Farewell, Stargarden!"
Having said goodbye, Evening Star ran ahead, towards the lake where she would meet Darker Dream. It did not occur to her to look back.
