Hanu and Kanesakht reentered the house near where Sekhmet sat, still talking, their voices lowered.
"Kanesakht, please reconsider," Hanu tried again. "It'll be dangerous."
"I live for danger," the darker Dumyr replied, rolling his eyes, voice dripping with something akin to sarcasm. "It's fine. If I do it, I'll be able to sleep at night, once she gets older. Gains her claws."
"You couldn't sleep at night before she came, you won't be able to sleep at night after she leaves, either."
"Well, I'll stare at the ceiling without fear of my throat being torn open. That better?" He rolled his eyes again, then caught sight of Sekhmet. He stared at her for a long time, gaze level. Hanukhemetu followed his line of sight and... blushed? Something like that.
"Ah. Good morning!" he called, scratching the back of his head, clearly embarrassed. Kanesakht snorted, raising an eyebrow.

"Adults talk too loud," Sekhmet replied under her breath, still gazing at the mask. After a moment she turned to look at her mentor. she rolled her shoulders a little; they had gotten stiff with sitting in the same possition.
"You didn't tell me if I should wait for you or no'. Got tired of waiting," she explained then glanced back at the mask and instrument. She nodded and looked back to Kanesakht and Hanukhemetu. She looked him up and down before bowing her head.
"Good morning," she said, before straightening up and looking back to her mentor, looking for any sign of if he was mad at her or not.

"Yes, I suppose we do," Kanesakht replied, darkly, leaning back against one of the walls. "Too loud to hear little girls who talk to inanimate objects."
"Kanesakht, stop that!" Hanu pleaded, sighing. Then he approached the girl, crouching before her and holding out his hand. "It's a pleasure meeting you, little one! I'm Akhetnnami's brother, Hanu. I work with your mentor over there. I know he can be pretty hard to deal with, sometimes, but under it all-"
"I have a soft and sweet caramel center? Oo... sounds yummy," muttered Kanesakht. "And chewy."
"I said stop," Hanu replied, smiling and gritting his teeth.

Sekhmet's eyes went wide at what her mentor had said and then her ears drooped slightly. But that was her only reaction to the mention that he had overheard what she had said to the mask. She put her paw in Hanu's hand and even managed something that could have been a smile, if it wasn't so small and forced.
"My name's Sekhmet," she replied and leaned close. "I don' think he's hard to deal with, but I've only been here a lil' bit. I think he's just cranky. Like the mask," she whispered to Hanu, knowing pretty well that Kanesakht probably heard what she was saying. She looked back to her mentor and frowned.
"What'sa caramel?"

Hanu smiled at her, genuinely, and nodded, then turned to look at Kanesakht as well. "Yes... what is a caramel, Kanesakht, and why haven't I had one? Sweet and chewy..."
"Joy. It's a type of sweet, from the upper world. Aubrianna had a few with her the last time she visited. I snuck one from her bag."
Hanu blinked. And stared. "You stole them from her?"
"... I'm joking. She gave them to me."

"Mommy lives in the upper world like Aubri'nna, right?" Sekhmet asked looking at Kanesakht. She couldn't quite see the harm in taking a candy from a friend, but then she didn't really know whether Aubrianna and Kanesakht and Hanu were friends or not. She liked Hanu's smile. He seemed nicer than Kanesakht, but that could get obnoxious after a while.
"Am I supposed to wait in my room in the mornings?" she asked her mentor as an afterthought. When she really got down to it, it seemed more logical than looking for him. He could be anywhere in the house, especially places she wasn't allowed to go to, and than she'd be looking all over for no reason. And then he'd have to come find her and waste time.

Hanu nodded. "Yes, Miss Reeshie lives above ground. Hopefully, you'll one day be able to visit her!"
Kanesakht nodded. "And be out of my fur. On the subject of mornings - soon enough, you will have work to do. I'm not talking about chores. You're going to be practicing night and day, and studying. Until then, however, yes. You will wait in your room until I fetch you."

Sekhmet narrowed her eyes at her mentor's comment. She thought about reminding him that neither one of them had much of a choice in the matter of her being there, but thought against it. Only because she didn't feel like being grabbed by the scruff again, plus she didn't want to look insolent to Hanu.
"When is soon?" she asked, her passive tone a little too forced even for her liking. She thought about leaving her room on morning when she was particularly upset with him, just to make him have to look for her. The thought made her smile slightly.

"Soon is after we run some errands and we perform a simple household bonding ritual," Kanesakht replied, and glanced at Hanu.
Hanu sighed, and stretched. "Well, I'd better be going... I'll speak with you later, little one!"

Sekhmet nodded to her mentor then turned to Hanu. "Goodbye Mr. Hanu," she said, ignoring the fact that he called her little one. It was true, she was little. But she didn't like people reminding her all the time.

Hanu smiled one last time, bowed, and headed back towards the garden to collect the one or two things that he'd brought over.
Kanesakht gazed down at his apprentice, dispassionately.
"Get ready to leave. Wash up, if you would like. We're going to Market."

Sekhmet just nodded her head. She ran back to her room, washed her face and paws, and was back standing by Kanesakht before you could say Hamunaptra. "Ready now," she said, breathing a little deeper from running to and from her room.

Kanesakht was waiting for her, fully dressed now in tight pants (Oo la la! says the writer xd ) and a loose shirt, open down the front and low in the back. One hand rested on his hip.
"Good. Come along, then." He turned heading for the front door - the only doorway in the building that was actually blocked off by something other than a curtain. "You need to be introduced to people you'll be dealing with for a long time to come. We also need to pick up a few things for an upcoming ritual. A sort of... coming of age."

"Yes, sir," Sekhmet replied and followed Kanesakht to the door. As befitting her young age and feline appearence, she was naturally quite curious. She looked up at him before asking, "What kinda things will we be getting?"
((Sorry I've been gone for a while. My brother's computer broke and my dad moved it into another room, along with the modum. No internet for Reeshie. crying ))

"Very basic things - incense, a few special bowls. Not much. The main point of this little excursion is not to purchase things, but instead to introduce you to the shop owners. The better they know you, and the more they like you, the easier your life will be."
He led her out onto a stone-paved path. The small path soon let out on a road.
((It's okay! Unless you have a lot for Sekhmet and Kanesakht to talk about, how about after your next post, we move this to the Market thread? If you have a bunch to talk about, just say so, and we'll spend some time in the Baarikmet thread. xd ))
