He nodded softly.

"Carrots and apples it is," he said with a smile before looking around to deicide the best direction to take. "We should probably go to the carrots first, it's only a short walk from them to the apples." And with that his eyes set on the a lightly beaten track into the forest heading east away from the hill top they where currently standing on. He could see the thickness of the canopy of trees that awaited them, it was much easier to walk than fly -and to be honest he much prefered walking.

"This way," he said stepping forward before pausing to wait for her to join him, "We go straight from here until we reach a giant Oak, then we go North a little and we will enter a clearing. There we will find the carrots."

"Okay," she said, smiling as she followed him. She walked by his side, looking around and taking in the scenery. She took note of all the beautiful and interesting things she saw as she passed, and often stopped to further inspect such things. A particular flower caught her eye, and she stopped yet again, pausing to smell its wonderful fragrance. Her smile widened and she picked it carefully with her teeth and moved to twine it in Shalar's mane.

"I thought it would suit you nice!" she said with a pleasant laugh, not considering for a moment that he might not appreciate her doing that sort of thing. She wasn't his sister after all. She was just a stranger, really.

Shalar went as a slow and steady pace, pausing with her and watching as she curiously looked at the insects and flowers that called this area home. There was something fascinating about the way she seemed to enjoy such things -an purity of heart perhaps?

When she picked a flower Shalar simply watched her, curious about what she was going to do with it. And as she took each step towards him his heart stopped, it was one thing for him to actually want to have contact with someone out of his family circle but to let them come so close.... could he manage it? Apparently he could, for he neve objected or moved as she tied another flower into his hair, it was a strange colour, yellow at first glance but the petals actually has stripes of orange and seemed to fade to a pinky red at the end. He wasn't sure what kind of flower it was but as his eyes looked from it to the mare that had gifted to him he found himself speachless. She was smiling happily, obviously oblivious to any discomfort and it was in that moment that he knew the meaning behind the flower. It was a gift, from one person to another. There was no secret meaning behind it, no threat. Just a gift.

A gift that seemed to make her happy, he gulped softly and turned away from her to continue their walk as he spoke. "Thank you." He wasn't sure what look was on his face, a goofy smile he suspected all he knew was that it was once h did not wish for her to see.

"I feel bad..." he said after a while of thinking, pausing to look at her for a moment, "I do not have anything to gift you." He had absentmindedly been looking at all the flowers they had passed and the responce was the same to every one of them 'not as pretty as she is... no good'

The carrots where not far away now.

Her smile widened when it seemed he appreciated her gift. She really did think it suited him, and she was very glad that he seemed to like it as well. She made a happy noise as she continued to walk by his side, still looking around at the surroundings. She was much like a young foal that way, she had to look at everything, and experience everything. Who knew what she could miss if she didn't!

Laughing as she stopped to smell yet another flower, she rustled her wings happily. When he spoke again, it took her a moment to register what he was really saying, and she laughed some more. "Oh, don't worry about it! You don't have to give me anything in return. I just thought the flower would look nice in your hair!" Her usual smile turned into an impish grin. "And I was right!"

Still laughing, she ran ahead a little bit so she could frolick in a patch of long grass. "Shalar! After we eat, where were we going so we could pick flowers?"

He watched as she ran away from him, her playful nature reminded him very much of a foal and actually made him want to play again also. He hadn't played in such a long time... and despite not allowing himself to fully indulgde he did enjoy running after, the breeze in his wings and hair, fluttering and dancing around him.

Slowing down to watch her with a gentle smile on his face. There was a delicate beauty to this female that intreguied him, yet it was so fragile he hoped it wouldnever snap or be corrupted by the harshness of life. "Wel...." he said with a gentle chuckle, "I think I will keep that a surpise." He just hoped that she liked surpises, after all he wanted nothing to spoil the view she would see when they entered the glade. He smiled at the thought, maybe he would find a flower there that he could gift to her?

"Not far now," he said as he continued walking forward.

As they entered the clearing he was hit with the smell of fresh vegetables, and could see he long green leaves that where shown above the ground of a carrot patch. Lowering his head to a particularly large looking one he started to pull.

One

Two

Three......

He flew backwards with the force of his pulling as the carrot finally came free of the earth. As he sorted himself out witha shake he tried to ignore the light blush on his cheeks -typically he would do that while he had company.

A surprise, eh? That was okay with her, she loved surprises! She continued to follow him, and when they came upon the carrot patch, she smiled wide and folloiwed him to the clearing, watching as he went to pull one out.

She laughed as he stumbled backwards, but it wasn't a mocking sort of laugh. She certainly wasn't making fun of him. "Oh, Shalar! Be careful!" She grinned at him as she planted her hooves firmly on the ground so that she could pull out her own carrot. They were quite firmly in the ground, but she pulled hard until it came out. She stumbled a little as well, but didn't seem to care all too much that she had.

Beaming happily, she made a pleased noise and started to munch the delicious carrot.

"I'm ok.... tougher than I look." Shalar had no idea why he had said it but the words had left his lips before he could really think about them. Smiling at her he decided to lower his head to the carrot and take a bite instead.

After he finished he looked at her with a smile, "What is your faviourite food Denika? I... eh..." He flashed a gentle smile that also lit his cheeks with a gentle blush, "Am rather partial to carrots myself."

He stood up and gave himself a good shake to get rid of any of the dirt that still lingered in his hair or pelt after his tumble as he watched her eat, "So... apples!" He knew a good orchid near by of juice rose apples but he also knew from fruit hunting with his little sister Nienna as a foal that not everyone liked them. Nienna much preferred green apples as they where crunchy and slightly sour, Shalar liked them a bit sweeter but he would pretty much eat anything without complaint. "There are some rose ones near by, or some green and white ones a little further out...."

"Then to the surprise location!" He winked softly to her, almost flirting.... if Shalar could be considered capable of flirting. It was possible that Shalar had just never really taken the time to figure out what a girl was and what they where for. Relationships.... well they where none exsistant in his case at the moment.

The carrots were really good, and she ate the one she had pulled out quite happily. Carrots weren't her favourite, but she did like them quite a lot. And these were extra good! Munching away, she bobbed her head to Shalar when he said he was tougher than he looked, agreeing with him even though her mouth was full. When she swallowed the rather large mouthful she had bitten off, she was able to talk and answer his question.

"I like apples and sweet grass the best," she said before taking another, much smaller bite. "But carrots are good too. Especially these!" Laughing her musical laugh, she finished off her carrot and moved over to Shalar, bumping him lightly with her flank, ready to follow him again. "Yes! On to the apples and the secret location! I'm excited to see it!" It was hard to tell if Denika realized that Shalar was flirting or not. Her personality hadn't changed in the least.

"Oh, look!" she said as she had started to follow him, noticing something caught in his tail. "You've got grass on you!" Laughing yet again, she lowered her head down so she pull the offending blade out with her teeth. She dropped the grass once she had it pulled out and flashed him a wide smile. "There we go! Now you look perfect."

"Apples and sweet grass..." he repeated softly, as if trying to commit both to memory.

Snapping out of his own mind and back to reality he smiled widely at her before nodding in agreement, "Yes... on to the surprise!" Her laughter and personality were infectious and for the first time since he was a foal Shalar felt himself relaxing and not fearing the darkness that had always held him terrified. Shalar wanted to be a good stallion, someone that others could look to for help... he wanted to be strong enough to give them the aid they needed. But sometimes he worried that he wasn't as good as he longed to be, as if there was a darkness within him that longed to bubble to the surface, that longed to be free so it could draw blood and kill... he just hoped that he could supress the beast forever. Yet, strangely around this enchanting creature such thoughts escaped him... all that mattered was seeing her smile and hearing her laugh again and again.

He was just about to ask her more about herself when she commented on the grass in his tail. A bright red blush covered his cheeks as he tried to see only to have her come to his aid. Her words threw him.... he looked perfect? No one had ever thought he looked perfect. Or maybe she was just being nice.... oh he didn't know! Why did everything have to be so complicated. "Thank you." He managed to gurgle out through his embarrasement. His red blush was starting to fade to pink, he could feel the heat but tried to ignore it.

"Em.... Denika.... do you trust me?" They where getting close now, and part of Shalar wanted her to close her eyes and then open them to the sight of the glade, it was magnificent even after growing up around it. He turned to face her, continuing on slowly so that he could read any change in her expressive face. His eyes were drawn to hers, as blue as the ocean and just as deep... he feared he could easily lose himself in them.

Denika followed along after him, not a care in the world, it seemed. What reason did she have to be worried? Shalar had been nothing but kind to her so far, and she doubted that was going to change. He was a good person, kind at heart, a gentle soul. She could tell.

She'd beamed as he thanked her for removing the grass and continued to follow him, unaware that she had unsettled him for the second time that day. She was just being her usual self, kind and helpful. She liked Shalar a lot and enjoyed his company. When he stopped and turned to her and asked her if she trusted him, she almost laughed. Yes, she had just met him, but she did. She had no reason not to!

Looking back into his oddly dark eyes that didn't startle her in the least, in fact she rather liked them, Denika couldn't help but smile wide at him. She hadn't laughed, because she hadn't wanted to offend him, and she thought that laughter in response to that question might do just that. "Of course I do, Shalar. What reason could I possibly have not to? Don't people usually trust their friends?" She said it, plain and simple. She considered him to be her friend.

Friends? She considered the friends despite the darkness that lingered within his heart, she was here, smiling and laughing and breaking him of his self-loathing for a thing that she had not yet seen.

Still, the fact that she considered them friends and that she did in fact trust him brought a beaming smile to his face, it had been so long since he had smiled, really smiled.... it felt, nice. Shalar had no other words to describe the feeling, the pounding in his chest that felt like a flutter of butterflies that refused to stand still. Gulping and ensuring that he was facing ahead and not at Denika he said, "I am glad you consider us friends." He wanted to tell her that he also considered her a friend but in his head all the words he could muster seemed to sound stupid so instead he continued with his plan. They where close now, he wanted to see the expression on her face when she entered his little secret grove.

"Ok...." He started turning to face her with a soft smile peeled upon his face. "We're not far now.... would you mind, closing your eyes for me Denika?" He had already scanned the path ahead, it was a straight walk here, there was nothing in her way as long as she walked straight -and Shalar was dedicated to ensuring she would.

The grove would be lit just right now, the angle of the sun making the leaves on the fruit trees shimmer and dance with glee.

Shalar estimated it would take roughly twenty of Denika's dainty footsteps to reach the haven of fruit.

She smiled back at him, wanting him to see the earnest feelings in her heart. Of course she had meant what she had said, she did consider the purple curl donned stallion to be her friend. She saw no reason why she shouldn't. She wasn't naive, she could sense that things would be fine.

She gave a little nod at his next question and closed her eyes. She hovered in her place for a moment, sniffing the air as if trying to use the smells to determine the safest route to take. "The air smells delicious," she said happily. Starting forward, she stumbled, just a little, and laughed. She wasn't startled in the least, this was fun, and she was enjoying it.

"You'll lead me there, won't you, Shalar?" she asked softly, shuffling instead closer to where she sensed him, being careful not to careen into him. She wanted to lean against him for support and guidance, not knock him off his feet. She thrust her wings out just a little, grazing him with them gently as she tried to get her bearings.

Shalar had planned to stand beside her and guide her with his own body, but when she moved closer to him asking the very question his own mind had been asking him he froze. You'll lead me there? There was a secret meaning below it, or at least there was in Shalar's mind, it translated to You'll keep me safe! And for the first time since Shalar had noticed and accepted the darkness within him he didn't feel the need to question his own desire... no, he would keep Denika safe.

Satisified with himself he embraced the feeling of her delicate feathers brushing against him in an effort to get her barings, she was so trusting that he hadn't seen her peek once yet. Interesting.

Relaxed he reached out with his own large wing to met her much daintier ones before pulling it back close to his body as he stepped carefully towards her, he watched his every move with deep concentration as he didn't want to hurt her or ruffle a feather the wrong way. Happy he was close enough to guide her he finally spoke again, "Yes, now walk with me Denika." There was a smile on his face, one that made him feel content and happy -he was just glad she couldn't see it.

Then he took his first step forward, eyes switching between the mare beside him and their direct path to the grove via the opening of trees that was probably only two soquili wide.... they would probably have to stop just before it so that they could enter unharmed. But he would deal with that when they came to it.
PostPosted: Thu Nov 18, 2010 9:26 pm

"I know I don't have anything to worry about with you helping me." Denika kept her eyes closed, trusting Shalar to lead her the right way. She knew she could easily peek, but what was the fun in that? It'd ruin the surprise, and she was pretty sure it'd disappoint Shalar too. And she definitely didn't want to disappoint him. A smile played on her lips as she leaned over to nudge him slightly, her soft pink nose brushing against his neck.

"Are we there yet?" she teased, keeping close to him. His body was warm next to hers, but it felt nice being close to him, and she didn't mind. She just wanted to tease him a little. She didn't really want to be there yet, because that would mean that the moment would be over and she would have to open her eyes and step away. Right now, she was content to walk beside him like this.

"Soon," He murmerred, simply taking the tiime to enjoy the soft ruffle of her feathers against his pelt and tingle he got from her warmth. Still, Shalar did his best to appear stoic towards the situation, very thankful that she was keeping her eyes closed and couldn't see his failed attempt.

Each step they took brought them closer, he had estimated roughly twenty paces to the finish line and they were alreay half way there. He considered slowing down, drawing out the experience but that would make it appear like something was wrong and Shalar had no intention of making Denika question him or his intent, especially since she trusted him and considered him a friend.

Shalar didn't have friends. He had family, two sisters and both his parents -who unfortunitly for him were trying yet again for children, which meant more children in the future- more siblings was not a propest Shalar was particularly enjoying to consider. He was happy with his current lot, and if they had more girls Shalar would soon find himself seriously out numbered.... what would they do to him them? Five girls and only one brother, he could already imagine the doting affection that he didn't want. Their constant questions and insistances that he look pretty to attract a mate... only tenfold what he had now! He prayed for boys.

As they walked a question popped into his head, "May I ask you a question Denika?" He paused, hesitated almost before he continued, "Do you like children?" Shalar was slightly niave, he didn't realise or consider that his question could be considered that he was basically testing the water to see if she wanted them....no he was simply asking incase he ever introduced her to his family and they had more foals running around.
