Long white hairs dancing in the wind, Kafele raised his head to look back at Kayin when his friend growled, a light rumble immediately echoing inside his own throat in response.

To be completely honest, he hated to run (though oddly enough, he loved to chase). His stamina was still pretty decent but running with his aunt could only do so much to improve it. So he was bound to get caught by Kayin at some point – in a very near future - and Kafele would rather avoid that so he had to act fast!

Think, think! What could he do?! What did aunt Fila say? Use his advantages. She wasn’t certainly talking about his resistance or very loud color… well, first he had to keep his head down before he tripped and fell. Now that would be embarrassing. And he needed to move quickly and make use of the short distance between them.

Kafele shot back a slightly devious look before he headed for a tree, whirling around it and most likely disappearing on the other side of the trunk for a few seconds. Trying to take advantage of the obstacle he crouched on the tall grass and tried to be as discreet as possible as he crawled under some dry brushes.

So, did Kayin see him? Was Kafele too slow? His rump trembled with anticipation as his blue gaze looked for the cream-colored lion. It was time for hide-and-seek!

Edit: I had to edit a tiny thing because it contradicted their previous rp. xD

That look...oh, he knew that look alright. Kay grinned hugely, unable to help himself as he wondered what surprise Kafe had in store of him now. Though they didn't get to play together often, had barely played at all save for that one day before, he had, at least, picked up on a few things. Like the look. It made him think of when the red cub had jumped down from a rock to flatten him in a pounce. Expect the unexpected... but it was so much more fun like this.

He dropped his head, the wind yanking at his growing mane as he sped after his friend, blinking as the other vanished around a tree. Kay skidded slightly when he changed direction, a thing he should probably practice more under Indira's careful guidance, and came around the tree to see...nothing. Well, grass and brush and bushes and roots and such. Frowning, he glanced upwards, just in case. Kafe had gotten him like that before after all, but Kayin was a fast learner.

Hm, not up the tree... Quietly, Kay slipped around the trunk, darting in the direction he'd been going before twisting to check behind himself. Not running in circles around the tree either then...where did he go? Kay dropped his muzzle to the earth, trying to see if he could glimpse a track or catch a scent. He'd hunted his mother before, one of many training routines, but it was something he still needed a good bit of improvement in...

Oh, Kafele had to suppress a fierce giggle when he saw Kayin looking up the tree, clearly remembering how he had jumped on the cream-colored cub all that time ago. From a rock, right? That had been so much fun!

Kayin had probably caught his scent by now so he’d find his hiding place soon. They were too close already and Kafele wouldn’t make him wait. He pondered on pouncing quickly and silently but somehow it was seemed too much for this kind of game. The red juvenile twitched, worried that his markings would give him away too quickly and jumped towards Kayin, at the sound of very childish roar. The first time had been from above, this time the “attack” came from below! He aimed for his friend’s neck, intent on grabbing it with both paws, hoping Kayin’s reaction would surprise him - as it usually did.

He'd been expecting the attack from above...so he was taken by surprise by Kafele's attack from below. He'd caught the other cub's scent at last, and knew he'd been getting close. But the attack was a bit faster than he'd anticipated, though the childish roar was comforting. It let him know this was just his friend, and not a danger. But that didn't keep his reflexes from kicking in. It just kept his claws sheathed.

Kay twisted with a yowl as the other's paws landed around his neck, letting himself fall to the ground and roll in hopes of keeping the other cub from getting a firm grip. Maybe he could kick him off with a good shove of his hind legs if Kafele was still attached...

Kafele was pulled to the ground with Kayin’s roll, felt his paws slip and nearly clawed his friend for support. Thankfully, Kay’s noise was enough to remind him this was just a game and that he needed to be a little more careful this time. It was his best friend and not another one of the rowdy Atmaja cubs he usually played with, after all.

The momentum propelled him over Kay and the red lion rejoiced for the very happy second his brief triumph lasted because it wasn’t long before he felt the sudden blow that kicked him away from his target, leaving Kafele huffing under his breath. He hit the ground with a thud and immediately lifted his body to stand on all fours, a wicked grin still in place despite the fact that his abdomen did hurt quite a bit. He pushed the ground with his hind legs at once, front paws trying to land a hit on his friend’s face.

Success!

Kayin twisted, flexing his spine to roll over as soon as the weight of the other cub had left him. For a minute there he'd been certain that Kafele was going to pin him down in spite of his attempt to roll out of his grasp, and then his hindpaws had connected with a soft belly and his red friend had tumbled off somewhere. He was on his belly now, his paws just lifting him upright again as he glanced around to see where Kafe had landed...

...and promptly ducked his head at the paw swinging towards his face, his shoulders already hunched as he took the blow across the top of his skull rather than his muzzle. It stung sharply, Kafe was hardly a whimpy lion, but there was no rip of claws and it hurt less than it would have to be whacked on the nose. It still flattened him again though, he felt more like his head had just gotten pounced on rather than batted, though that might have been because he'd not quite gotten his paws back under him when the Atmaja had pressed his attack. His ears flattened against his skull to prevent any accidents, as he was accustomed to doing when he sparred with his brothers after a small accident, he lashed out sharply with his own forepaws, aiming to knock his companion off-balance.

When Kayin’s head dropped, Kafele was pretty sure he had won. There was even a certain amount of smugness in his thoughts as he prepared for the next move. He didn’t realize the cream-colored cub would be able to recover so quickly so he was pretty surprised when his friend’s blows hit him on the head and neck. His front paws were already in the air and Kafele inched back, his whole body leaning dangerously to the side as he lost his balance. His front paws paddled quickly as he trying to get back to a fighting position but the red juvenile was aware that he was in a very vulnerable position right now – and very much annoyed by it.

His ears still ringing mildly from the far less than mild blow, Kayin brought his paws back beneath himself before he lost his balance altogether. Blinking, he saw his friend weaving and knew that if he should press his advantage, dizzy skulled or not, he could win. It would be simple, more so if he weren't staggering himself, but with his big brothers as his only other experience... He could probably have managed it, or at least come close.

But that wasn't the point this time. No, not at all. This wasn't training, he could do something else if he wanted to. There was no need to win, and no need to show no mercy, a thing that had always made him a bit anxious. Could he finish a fallen enemy? He...didn't think so... But Kafele was his friend. They were only playing, he didn't need to worry about feeling bad either way. Besides, it was just a game. He never got to play games...it was fun.

Grinning suddenly, the young tan lion flopped on his belly, sliding beneath his wildly paddling friend and wrapping his forepaws around Kafe's tail to hold it firmly in place. "Lookit, I caught the red again..." he said in a sing-song voice, alluding back to the game that had started the whole thing. He had a feeling color chase didn't normally go like this, but it had been so much fun.

Kafele had expected his cream colored friend to take the chance to knock him down and instead found himself quite stuck as soon as he regained his balance. Trying to turn in both directions only served to prove how very stuck he was and he couldn’t for the life of him remember anything aunt Fila had taught him on how to reverse such a sticky situation. He was actually getting a little agitated and the young lion had to remind himself he was with a friend in order to get his thoughts straight.

“I give... let go.” He frowned with a resigned smile, one paw moving slowly moving as close to Kayin’s face as the red lion could get in a mock hit that had no possibility to connect. “This was fun.”

He grinned though he was a little disappointed. Color chase, wrestling, catch, hide and seek… the exciting rapid succession of game jumble had been incredibly fun but he wanted to come out on top this time. Oh well.

Kayin giggled as his grip on the tail was tugged in different directions, his own flicking gleefully in the dirt. He loved playing with Kafele, and as far as he knew there was no win and lose, not that counted anyway. It wasn't anything like training where the loser was 'dead'. It was just fun. Lots of fun.

At the red cub's words Kayin opened his paws, releasing the white fluff that so closely matched his own tail tip. "We should play it again sometime," the young lion agreed eagerly, lifting his soft blue eyes to meet Kafe's own. "Or another game! What other games do you like?" The red cub, though with their manes coming in like this they almost weren't cubs anymore, seemed to be a never-ending source of wonderful ideas. For Kayin, who would on occasion sit and 'play' with a rock, each and every decision of playing made by his friend was a fastinating and gleeful opprotunity.

His ear flattened when the other's paw drew near to his face, though Kay didn't flinch. Kafe wasn't going to hurt him, not on purpose like that. His head was still ringing somewhat though, he wasn't entirely positive standing up and running about again would be the best of ideas.

Not that he wouldn't do it anyway.

Kayin’s enthusiasm was contagious and it wasn’t long until Kafele was hopping on the spot, looking as excited as usual. His brother Azu would probably have made fun of him mercilessly and use his defeat to goad Kafele into a foul mood but the cream-colored cub’s attitude made everything seem perfectly fine. It was nearly impossible to feel too competitive or upset.

“We could turn on the spot until we’re dizzy and then see who can walk the furthest without falling! Or we could try to climb the tree and see who can climb the highest! Or…” the red lion stopped, suddenly aware that his ideas were always about finding who was best at something Kafele wondered if perhaps Tama cubs played a little differently. “What do you usually play?”
PostPosted: Tue Oct 05, 2010 9:26 pm

Kayin giggled again at his friend's excitment, clearly the emotion was contagious both ways, rebounding between the pair until they were each thrilled and gleeful with anticipation for the next adventure. He didn't get up to dance on his paws, though his tail curled happily and his forepaws drummed the ground. Both suggested games sounded like a bad idea with his head ringing, though that was clearing up nicely and wouldn't likely be a problem in a short while...

"Well, either of those sound..." the Tama cub started, then hesitated when Kafele asked him what he played. What could he say? That he didn't? Or when he did, it was usually by himself? His brothers were nice, but they didn't play with each other the way he had grown to know other cubs did. Hesitantly, he looked down at his splotchy toes, wriggling them at the dirt for a moment before answering. "I don't, not really. My brothers and I...well...we've...we've other things we're supposed to be doing..."

Would Kafele think he was strange? Would he get bored of him and not want to play anymore because Kay didn't have any games to share?

“Really? You Tama kids are funny.” The red lion laughed, batting one paw playfully against Kayin again. Though to be perfectly honest, Kafele had played with Tama cubs and he knew the differences weren’t quite as pronounced as he liked to believe. He was getting the feeling that Kayin's mother, like aunt Fila, was trying to prepare him for the future - maybe a little too hard. “That’s not right, you gotta play too, Kay!”

“Times may be hard but playing is important! You make friends… you find allies and learn things and train at the same time.“ Not that his friend seemed to need any more training of the body, quite the opposite. And Kafele’s motives weren’t exactly pure as he was mostly just trying to see if he could get Kayin to show up more often. “I’ll show you. Do you want to go see the others duel? We can stay hidden so they don’t bother us.” The last sentence he added quickly, realizing that he was not ready to share his best friend just yet.

'You Tama lions'? Kay blinked, then his shoulders hunched slightly and he shook his head. "I think the other cubs play..." he protested uncertainly, though he wasn't sure how to explain. His mother, who was not his parent by blood, wanted them to be strong. He needed to be, for her. To be worth it for her, to never let her down, ever. He'd do anything for Indira, anything at all. Playing with Kafele was fun, it was special, having a friend was special. But he knew work was important. It was for his mother, and for the dreams she held for them. It was worth it.

His ears dropped slightly, he didn't want Kafe to be disappointed in him either. He didn't want to do something wrong, to be a bother. He just... he had to be better, had to work harder. He couldn't not train and practice, even if the idea of playing was so tempting.

"But I...I have a friend," the young lion contradicted the red cub. He smiled, feeling oddly shy. He liked being around Kafe though, and they were friends. Blood brothers even. It didn't matter if they didn't get to see each other as often as he wanted to, that they were friends would never change. Not ever. "Okay, if you want," Kayin agreed readily enough, rising to his paws now that his head felt slightly less spinny. "Haha, you hit hard Kafe! You're really strong!" he added, giving his head another shake before grinning at the Atmaja lion through his now messy white mane. A huff of breath blew most of the strands from his sky blue eyes, and he took half a step forward, waiting for his friend to lead the way. He wasn't sure where they were going yet after all. But he'd follow Kafe wherever he wanted to go.

A part of Kafele wanted to feel sad that Kayin didn’t have any other friends (was it because he was usually more quiet?) but his other half – a much more selfish part of him - was actually delighted to know he didn’t have to share the cream colored lion with anyone else. Adding that Kayin thought Kafele was strong and the red lion was just bursting with positive energy right now.

“A friend? Nah, a best friend!” Kafele corrected with a grin before dropping to the ground, crouching tensely. “Ahah. You’ll see, we’ll be the toughest lions around when we grow up.” And then no one will ever mess with our families. He might have to add a spot there for his brother Azu... Kafele knew his brother was pretty tough as well. And one shouldn't underestimate his other brother Livius who was not only really smart but also being trained by aunt Fila. And Kayin had brothers too, right? Oh well, there would be a lot of tough lions in the future, Kafele figured with some degree of quiet amusement. “Come on, let’s see how close we can get without anyone noticing.”
