I like all the Red Death costumes. 3nodding
The new one was really cool, but it didn't have the REALLY COOL hat from the old movie and book.
Another thing about the new one...I know you're all going to jump at this...But it was a little...loose...down around the bottom. sweatdrop If you get my meaning.
My mom pointed that out. I didn't even notice the first time so I was like "Mom!? Wha!? Why were you LOOKING?" And my mom was all like: mrgreen "Well..I uh, was just looking around there...And I noticed his pants were pretty baggy...You..You didn't notice?"
And I'm like "NO. I didn't really stop to check that, Mom."
*Sigh*
But I really like the hat in the old version, and the cape of course. heart But the one thing that I love about the new version was the mask. I love the way the eyes were done. It looked really Phantom-y.

The Red Death costume was great, but I miss the big swoofy (I made htat up. i don't know what it means ^^) hat form the musical, and the cape with "Do not touch me, for I am Red Death stalking about" or something like that. It was my favorite description of the phantom in Leroux!Book.

I don't think the Red Death costume needed much to stop the masquerade.
I mean, back then was a pretty supersitious period, and assuming the upper-class of Paris read Poe's work, wouldn't they make the connection? (Especially in the book, where the back of his suit clearly states that he's the Red Death.) I mean, you live in this period where there isn't much science to prove things false, so you assume that almost everything is real.
Then you're at this theater, which a chick recently disappeared from (Christine's disappearance was in the papers...), and you see this man dressed up as the Masque of the Red Death. And he disappears by fire.
I'd be scared. "Holy ********! The Red Death is here to kill us AAAALLLL!" gonk
Anyway, I liked the new movie version. It was sleek and kinda sexy. But the play one was cool too. I didn't like the poofy sleeves of the original movie. And remember -- in the original book, Erik didn't have a mask on. His face WAS the masque. xd

Give the movie Red Death a big plumage hat and I'd love it forever and a day. heart Even without a hat I still think it's my favorite, although I'm not too fickle with Red Death costumes; I love them all. 3nodding

They were both really good costumes. The one in the musical had the flashy dramatic look to it. Whereas the one in the movie showed off his nice tight a**. :9 Erik is yummy!

I Love all of them, as well. I think they did a spectacular job in the movie, actually. I modeled my Avatar after the red-death outfit, as I'd like to see it.

His face WAS the masque. xd Yes, I realized that in the book he wasn't wearing a mask at the masquerade (rather ironic, I think), but it's rather difficult to make someone's entire nose disappear. Also, they only would have known what he was dressed as because of what was on the cape. Leroux's description of Red Death is really almost nothing like the character that Poe created.

I like the play one, almost solely because of the hat. (No, I am not using hat as a code word for something else, like in Pirates of the Caribbean.)
Of course, I liked the movie one because. Um. GerardButlerlooksbloodygreatintightthings.
Yeah. I'm still laughing from the Misheard Lyrics thread in here. I can't focus.

I love the movie version of the Red Death costume; i love the way the cape flows like a stream of blood. It's my favorite costume in the entire movie, i think... it's just.... smashing.

Unromantic_Phantom I liked the Broadway costume better because it stuck closer to the novel's description of the costume, and because the costume in the movie is not something that's going to stop on entire masquerade. Really if it wasn't for the music change and the camera centering on him you probably wouldn't have much noticed him. True, it was a little plain, but I really like his mask he was wearing at the time...with those black eyes, I just haven't seen a Red death masquerade mask I've like as much, although it might seem trite to quibble over a mask O.o

Personally i liked the musical/book version. Sure the moive was sexier but the phantom is about fear and mystery, not looking hot...
When he had a full death mask on you couldnt tell he was a man, therefore he scared the theater goers because for all they knew he was a real phantom- something to be feared.

Unromantic_Phantom Actually, the whole Red Death came from a short story by Edgar Allen Poe called The Masque of the Red Death. It's basically the story of these people shutting themselves inside of a castle to escape some rampaging plauge (which is of course called the red death). One night they decide to hold a masquerade ball, and at the stroke of midnight they become aware of a figure that none of them had noticed before. He is dressed in the garments of the grave with splotches of blood on them...um I can't remember how his face was described, but basically it's the embodiment of the disease, red death. Everyone dies in the end (very typical of a Poe story). I liked the Broadway costume better because it stuck closer to the novel's description of the costume, and because the costume in the movie is not something that's going to stop on entire masquerade. Really if it wasn't for the music change and the camera centering on him you probably wouldn't have much noticed him. ooo.. i get it now that makes the phantom chasing after people yelling i am red death even funnier now. 3nodding he he he
