Wow! I never expected so many people!

Welcome Everyone! I'm so glad that all of you decided to come together... and that you actually introduced yourselves rather openly!

Rare thing, these days.

(I wish I could post more, and reply a bit, but I'm rather pressed for time.)

Congratulations! Hopefully you don't get too wedding'd out.

the_chibster
flowering waterfall... very beautiful name. Your maturity doesn't betray your young age. I look forward to chatting with you on these boards.

Yumichan
I'm Jennifer, and I am not Buddhist, I am Pagan, but I found the beliefs to be somewhat alike in principals or morals, so I decided to join.

All are welcome. The truth is something that isn't exclusive to any one religion or text. Like Mulder said, the truth is out there. It's for everybody.

Richard B Riddick
Rich! Glad you could make it! Welcome to the guild, I hope we can be as informative as we are... quiet. I'm rather interested in Shinto. Maybe we can exchange some teachings?

Asahi Kumoru
Everyone seemed so narrow-minded. I'm not really sure if I'll convert to Buddhism yet, but I figured this would be a good place to come and learn more about it.

Well Katie, unfortunately for all of us, the narrow-mindedness is universal, and will follow us. The issue isn't really religious, but cultural. We're spoon fed dualism, and you lose a lot of your perspective when you see in blacks and whites.

I am happy that you did decide to learn about Buddhism. I hope that we can be of some help to you in your spiritual quest, and perhaps we can aid you in understanding existence. Remember, a mind stretched to new horizons can never return to its original shape.

Sakurako-Sama
At this point, I seem to have difficulty accepting any one religion as absolutely satisfactory, since they all seem facets of the same thing to me. At least, though, buddhist beliefs tend to ring true for me. smile

"The Kingdom of God is within you." - Christ Jesus

I'm glad you love it! Sometimes, young people are turned off to Buddhism because it's rather plain and ordinary. We all will very much enjoy your company. Perhaps you can share some stories about being in a buddhist household?

Windward
P.S.: I'm sorry for my broken english, I hope you could understand what I post... if not,...........ask me sweatdrop

I see a few people getting turned on to buddhism from their Mothers. I hope we can be helpful to you, although I imagine your Mother would be a better reference for some things than this guild, depending. I'm very happy to see you here, and I hope to chat with you further.

Thatdamnmunky
I have to keep it a secret though, because my family is of a very close minded protestant faith.

I am a firm believer in doing the deeds instead of wearing the label. Just because you believe yourself to be a buddhist, doesn't mean that you must stop your compassion if you cannot express your faith.

You'll find it even more liberating if you drop the concept of buddhism along with every other prejudice (sp?).

Amon-Sirn
I have found the core of many of the practices I used to survive and heal those gray days can be found in the teachings of Buddism and so I aim to learn as much about it as I can.

Well, Life is Suffering. That's step one. After that, the rest is rather easy.

Bowl of sand is a bowl of sand. Zen if I ever heard it. Thanks for accepting the invite, and sharing a little bit about yourself. I've found Tibetan to be a little gaudy for my taste, but to each their own. If it enlightens you, then it is worth it.

Perhaps a Philosophy student could answer some of the more complex questions, or the technical ones, that we might get hung up on.

Byaggha
eligion shopping. Oh do I know it too well. Was almost a Mormon. Almost. Although being feline is superior to buddhist. Meditation doesn't teach you how to get loving attention and purr in the afternoon sunlight.

Jera_Gifu
ery practical indeed. It's the secret little instruction book that you didn't get issued when you were born. Everything that you need to know about living, is in Buddhism, although learning how to die is key to learning how to live.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, sorry about the extra super long post, but I wanted to reply at least a little to everyone's introduction. You're all so very eager to learn and so diverse that I couldn't just leave well enough alone. I had to reply. Now, let's get some discussion going. Somebody start a new topic, regardless of how remedial it may seem, and roll with it. We are the Gaian Buddhists. Let's make this, ours.

Yes, it will be. I might find another more to my tastes, but as of yet I have only been taught Tibetan and some minimal Zen.

I'd be glad to help - I also have Physics and Maths A-levels if such skills are required.

I would LOVE to learn that purring trick, you know. Though someone has to tell science that it needs to stop pulling cats apart to try and figure it out, and just accept that they can do it and that we don't need to know how it works to enjoy it. 3nodding

Also, I misspelled Thich Nhat Hanh's name in my last post, I think - I apologise. My last week or so has been a bit hectic, and there wasn't much sleep involved in it. Now that I've finally got a day off, though...I should smarten up. 3nodding

My name is Nohea. I am 21 and living in California. I've kind of always been interested in the study of religions, but when it came to my personal beliefs, i heard His Holiness the Dalai Lama speaking on television when I was in my freshman year of high school and I just felt like the principles he was putting out there were already a part of what I was feeling in my heart, so I adopted a few principles at first and read up on more in depth stuff later. Even now, i'm not hardcore into Buddhism. I find that not everything I read is for me, or something I believe or want to put into practice in my life. I adhere to certain principles and concepts though, including karma and meditation and certain holy days. Technically, I consider myself a Solitary Mixed Neo-Pagan, but I definitely rely a lot on Buddhist teachings and principles.

My names Holly (after the plant), although a few other nicknames and names have show up, even if there rarely used. I'm 14, and supposedly a Christian, supposedly because I'd I'm starting to get annoyed at being yelled at that I want to burn down the church. Actually, I've wanted to do that since I was six. So basically I've been trying to find something that I don't hate to believe in. So now I'm trying to find out about stuff, and since the only thing I know about Buddhism comes from watching a few shows on TV, I thought this was an ok idea. (Sorry if this is sort of broken up, I'm trying to baby-sit four kids at the same time as writing.)

My name is Bridget, I'm 17. I found and read 'Hardcore Zen: Punk Rock, Monster Movies, and the Truth About Reality' on a bench in the MFA a few years ago and now I'm clinging quite happily to a 'truth is boundless' atheist/zen vibe as I enter my last year of catholic high school.

My name is Lisa and I'm 13 years old. I became interested in Buddhism last year when we learned the basics of it in Social Studies. I don't know much about this religion, as I learned when I came to this guild. Actually, I had this fantastic interest in the religion, that passed a couple of months later and I continued my simple Christian life. Then I was invited to the guild, and now I'm ready to learn about Buddhism. whee

Hey everyone! My name's Ruthebee and I enjoy buddhism because the values suggested are very close to how I've already been living my life. There isn't really much more to say... whee

The name is TRM [The Real Me] and I'm a freshman in high school. whee I am a Hindu, and strongly believe in a lot of the values set in that religion. Still, Buddhism and Hinduism share some similarities at times; I'm very willing to learn more about the Buddhist way of life. smile Also, it's a bit intriguing that Buddha came from India (when Nepal still was part of India) originally, starting his life as a prince. Of course he eventually gave up that way of life.... I'm sure all you smarter folks know what I'm talking about.. Sort of.. sweatdrop

My name is Jason and I am 22 years old. I try my best to live each moment in mindfullness. I am interested in all sects of Buddhism but mostly Mahayana and Zen.

There’s no time for confused thoughts.
Practice the meaning of single-mindedness.
Buddha isn’t found by searching.
Look at the characteristic of your mind.
Generally, faith is like spring mist at first.
Be brave at the vanishing point

Hello

ninja My name is mini Mandy. I like candy. Please don't step on me! o.o

Anyway, my name is Amanda. I am seventeen years of age. I am a Niichren Buddhist, born into the faith, a fortune baby as they call it. I live with my mother, who converted into this faith when she was in her twenties, my younger brother and sister, also fortune babies, and my mom's boyfriend of 9-10 years, and his two sons, who are both in their early to mid twenties. I live in Northern California, orignally born in Southern California. I have a chow chow who is 14 years, an evil parakeet who is almost 3, and a tortise who isn't mine but my sister's and he looks like my bird. 3nodding

Also I find it extremely strange to have the girl above me have the same name and age as myself. o.o
