Haqikah had left her home in the middle of an ongoing renovation to visit her least favourite city in Syria. Zanzibar. Even if it weren't for the unpleasant memories tied to this place it was a very ugly city. Now, Zanzibar was pretty bad, but trying to live surrounded by clumsy workers and clay sounded even more unbearable in the long run. No, let Akil and Nuri handle things at home while she went here to buy more slaves for her soon to be larger house. One more house servant, she mused, and a male that could take on the heavier duties around the house while Akil recovered.
But first she needed a place to sleep... It was already getting late and the sun was getting closer to the silhouette of haphazard houses and tents that characterised the city. She had been pointed in this direction when asked for a hotel, but it couldn't be that? It looked as if it had been built by mad beasts, but as she came closer she could see the sign outside. Oh, well... It might just look better on the inside.
"Hello," she said as she entered the building, temporary blinded after the bright sunlight outside, "I'm in need of a room for the night, and I've heard good things about this place."
She hadn't really since she had just been pointed here without any further comments, but it couldn't hurt to lie about that. Every establishment wanted to have a good reputation, right?

Nappa had been snoozing quite peacefully after a full night of drinking and throwing bottles at what he dubbed the 'stupid, lazy' cats. He loved to watch them scatter, and run, yowling all the while. After he had his fun he'd collapsed in a heap and made the sad, mopey cat clean up the mess.
It was easy to make them do what he wanted, but often he wondered why they let him mistreat them so badly. At least that's what he told himself. That they liked it, because if they didn't, well they would have fought, and the ones that did fight - would fight harder. With cats so easily manipulated the oaf was having a hard time trying to find excitement in his life. When he did find and ounce of enjoyment, it was usually when his body slumbered and his mind opened itself up to all sorts of imaginings.
He dreamed of childish dreams, like having his parents fawn over him for his sound business sense. Like owning a hotel that was not like this one. A hotel that was a large estate, with twenty cats, and a dozen other creatures at his beck and call. Many mates, some of them with his seed. Yes, his parents would tell him they were so proud of him, happy to be getting grandchildren, and before they could get another word in, the governess herself would show up at the hotel door and declare that she had fallen in love with him and would go on to give him a medal - maybe even declare there should be a monarchy and he would be the first king. Then...
Then he awoke to the sound of someone calling out.
"Damn those cats," he snarled as he popped open his eyes in the semi-darkness.
Grunting and groaning as he struggled to get to his feet - which felt heavy and lidden down with the weight, he finally got to all fours. Already out of breath from the effort. Shaking himself, he let out a final grunt and headed out into the lobby, ready to beat the daylights out of whoever was making all the racket. That is until he realized it was a customer.
Not just any customer!
Wow, wow, WOW. His mind went blank as he oogled the female hound in front of her, openly and without tact. She was a beauty, and soon his mind went to a thousand deviant things he'd like to do with her...or rather to her.
Suddenly catching himself he said, "Hello, Hello! What brings you to my fine establishment, pretty miss?"

Haqikah's eyes had time to adjust to the indoor lever of lighting while she waited. She had the time to think about trying to find another place to sleep, but the thought had barely entered her mind before a hound joined her in the lobby from a side room. Was he staring at her? Ah, she might as well regard it as a compliment. The hound in front of her smelled like old liquor and was about as good looking as she expected a common hound to be. That was, not very. Still, males tended to be easier to handle if they thought they had a tiny chance, so she wasn't going to be the one to point out that she was way out of his league.
"I... err..." she said uncertainly, but quickly composed herself and arranged her features in a pleasant smile, "I require a room for the night good sir, and I heard good things about this establishment. I'm in Zanzibar for business, and I've travelled all day."
It didn't look too bad in here, did it? Haqikah looked around in the lobby and while it wasn't as luxurious as the fine resorts in Cairo it would have to do. There were surely other options that would have been more appealing, but she intended to spend more stones on slaves than on lodging.

When she spoke he felt his chest heaving with an unbridled interest. She was very pretty! Nappa had never had a mate in his life, nor had he had even the slightest fling. In fact, most females that took one look at him either retched in disgust, or threw insults his way. He had no idea how to deal with the opposite gender, and he barely found the right words to say with his own. So, it came as a real shock when this female continued to talk to him and didn't run away yowling.
"Ah, yes! Perusing the black market lately?" He chortled at his own humor, "It is a tiring business - the buying and selling of slaves. You poor thing, you surely do need somewhere to rest that pretty head of yours."
Puffing his chest out more, and trying his best to suck in his large belly he looked around and was thankful that the lighting in the place left a lot to be desired. Though his slaves had done a good job cleaning up his mess, it was simply impossible to clear away all the dust and grime that seemed to plague this city. The hotel may have been one of the better ones, but there certainly were others that managed their properties a little bit better. With the money the brute made off gambling Nappa could have done a little better for himself, but he was too complacent to give much thought to it.
"I have all rooms available. All named for beautiful flowers, I'm sure you'll find one that matches your own fair form," he grinned widely, thinking himself a master of finesse. "Shall I show you them? They each are 250 stones. You get one meal free, along with bedding. Anything extra will cost you..." he stopped for a beat, " hmmm.... " his expression turned leering as he ticked his eyes up and down the hound's body. "Though, I may be obliged to offer you some of that for free under the right circumstances."

"I'm very tired," she agreed, but then let Nappa do the talking.
Haqikah kept smiling as the hotel hound did his best to suck up to her. 250 stones was more than she had hoped for, but it wasn't unreasonable for a room in this city. And... Did he just say that? The right circumstances, hmm? In any other situation Nappa would have been in big trouble for saying something like that to a lady, but this was a business transaction and if one party showed a weakness... Well, she would be stupid not to try to exploit it. Her body had never and would never be part of a bargain, but if this little hound wanted to play a game she would play. As long as it suited her.
"Oh, I'd love to see the pretty flower rooms," she cooed, deciding that 'clueless young female' would suit her purposes for now. It was almost as fun as 'the damsel in distress', "My father grows flowers in Prussia and he even named me after one! Can you guess which one?"
Haqikah didn't have a set goal with her lies just yet. If it managed to lower the price of the room that would be great, but otherwise she would at least have a bit of fun. Coming up with fake names and backgrounds was just something she enjoyed doing, and her approach would change depending on how the hotel hound responded. She had at least set up one possible escape route. 'My father will be here any minute' had rescued her from some tight situations before...

He made a face at her admission of being tired. He meant it figuratively speaking, however Nappa held very traditional views on women in general so he was neither shocked nor surprised. He was, however, disappointed that perhaps he might not be able to get her into his bedpile later in the evening. Wasn't that what it meant when a female said she was tired? That she was not interested in doing any physical activity?
Of course he wouldn't know about the ways of women.
As she spoke he felt himself grow more and more puffy, with courtship dancing around in his small brain. Courtship to him most likely meant something entirely different then anyone else, but what Nappa couldn't get with charm and handsome features, he was more then happy to make up with straight cash.
Then she went and mentioned her father.
Nappa instantly went into alarm mode. "Prussia you say?" He grunted, hoping that she was only looking for a room for herself, and not a father that was to visit her later. "Great city...yes. I've been to it once or twice..." At her childish glee, he smiled again, remembering his earlier intentions. "Oh, I can guess....the prettiest one?"
Oh, ho ho, he was so very clever! Perhaps he should jot that down. "Let us see those rooms now." With that he bowed his head to her, and begin to advance on the stairs, looking back every so often to make sure she was still in tow.

Haqikah couldn't know what went on in Nappa's head, but she could guess judging by the looks he gave her. He seemed to back off for a while after she mentioned the father she had made up on the spot, but then the corny compliments kept coming. Did he actually think he had a chance? How cute. She couldn't wait to tell Chione the next time they met. She wasn't sure her servant Akil would see the funny in the situation, but he'd still have to listen if she decided to tell him.
"Of course," she cooed, adding the most inane giggle she could manage for effect, "The prettiest one, you're going to make me blush!"
She bounced after him up the stairs, full well knowing that it made her fluffy tail and ears bounce in interesting ways too. Of course, it would have had more effect if she had bounced in front of him up the stairs instead, but that kind of behaviour was just not proper. She was genuinely curious to see the rooms, and she hoped they were at least clean and pest free. It sounded as if he had more than one room free so hopefully she'd be able to charm herself into the best of them.
"I'm deadly afraid of roaches," she said in her best high-pitched girly-girl voice, "You don't have any roaches here do you?"

Nappa loved every minute of it, and by the time she was done with her bouncing, and her coy ways, she was surely liable to have him eating out of her paw. He went into each room, giving a little bits bits of information about the flowers the rooms were named after. For instance, the sunflower room boasted that the flower was named so because it always had to face its petals towards the sun. When you moved it, if it be in a pot, the flower, after a period of time, would turn back around. When she muttered the next comment he was astounded....outwardly anyway.
"Heavens, no!" Ne said, in mock shock. "There is none of those blasted things around here, my enchanting temptress." Of course he didn't tell her that there WERE roaches in the little shack out back where some of the meat and vegetation were stored. Sometimes they had a nasty habit of making their way into the food source. That was protein in his eyes so he never bothered sending one of the cats out there to clean it up. He did instruct the cook to kill as many as he saw when he went out there. That was enough, wasn't it?
The rooms were actually kept well clean, as was the kitchen, though no one ever got to see that. It was the duty of the kitties to look after their own rooms and since they usually had nothing to do but that, most of them took care of the rooms meticulously. The walls were adorned with paintings of said flowers, each in different styles and patterns. The only drawback was the hopelessness that emitted beyond the doors and the pitiful cries the slaves made.
Once done with the rooms on the second floor, he took her to the rooms on the third and finally floor, starting with the rose room. Warning her that though the room was quite lovely, the cat was not.
"Always scowls, that one," He said irritably. "I keep a stick near the door, free for my wonderful guests. If you desire this room....take the stick and beat the cat until she listens." He smiled at that.
"Now we have the nicest room," He said happily, "The tiger lilly room. The flower has a very well placed meaning...it means, 'I dare you to love me'," he gave her a well placed leering sneer when he said that.
Beyond, looking into the room one could see that the room was actually quite nice and it was clear that Nappa had put a lot of money into this room in particular. The bed was very large and had clawed feet, with an intricate matching headboard. There was a large chest one might find extra bedding, and a Persian rug on the floor. The walls had the most detailed paintings on it, and the colors were so vivid it made you forget how awful the rest of the hotel was.
"Now then...what shall it be?"

Haqikah smiled and nodded as she was shown around, and ever so often she voiced her admiration for a certain painting or piece of furniture. The cleanliness of the room put her mind at ease regarding roaches since they were much better kept than the lobby, and her praise of the rooms were not just an act. She was impressed, and the higher up they went the prettier the rooms were. The rose room was quite lovely indeed, but she didn't fancy having to beat a sullen feline into submission tonight and she said as much to her host. The tiger lilly room on the other paw... It was certainly the nicest room so far, and the little slave in it was quite lovely too.
"This one is really nice," she said, admiring the lush persian rug, "Unless you are saving it for someone more important..."
She batted her eyelashes, fairly certain that she could get this room even if there were important guests on the way. Never underestimate the importance of a tail wagged just so.
"Awww," she suddenly exclaimed, "Perhaps I can't afford it since it's so nice. My father only gave me 250 stones to use for a room..."

Nappa nodded his understanding of her not wanting to occupy the rose room if there was a fierce kitty that also occupied it. Evangeline usually fared better with a sadistic occupying the room, or perhaps a general male, as they were more like to take pleasure in beating the kitty until she submitted. It was almost a part of sport, which made the rose room special in its own little way.
"A fine choice," he said, before suddenly caught himself when she voiced her concern. He cleared his throat loudly, and suddenly felt hot around the collar. He wasn't used to a woman so clever, and though on the surface level he honestly couldn't read into her game, on the unconscious level he surely had a sense of how badly he was being played. However...
To deny her the room, might deny anything else she might offer later. Hopefully.
"Goodness no, a hound as fine as you deserves only the finest of rooms!"
And there Nappa had it, a possible way in! "250 is too little for a woman of your class, he should have given you a thousand stones to spend at will. If you were my mate I would give you an allowance of just that, my dear. To show you what a dutiful hound I would be I will....I will..."
"Allow you the room for free!" He blurted out. Nappa had a strong sense of business, but somehow the blood rushed to another portion of his brain and he wasn't thinking very properly or soundly. "That is...if I might have just one kiss?"
In the background, Lilia had busied herself behind the bed so that her silent laughing would not be heard.

Haqikah rewarded Nappa with a giggle as he described how he would have spoiled her if she had been his mate. She was sure he was exaggerating, and even if he wasn't she wasn't about to give up her independence for 1000 stones. Falling for a handsome hound had shown to be troublesome, but she wasn't ready to lower her standards to this level. Her eyes widened in surprise and disbelief when he first offered her the room for free and then tacked on a small alternative price...
He deserved to be slapped for even suggesting that, but Haqikah was a greedy hound and she wasn't willing to just let the offer slide. A room for free... Just one small kiss... Oh, and she couldn't break character now when it was starting to get really interesting.
"Oh," she said, trying to look shocked and surprised without looking completely revolted, "But I couldn't just sleep here without paying, could I? My father always told me I should pay what I owe. I'm so terribly confused... And it would be my first kiss."
She only whispered the last part, but she was careful to whisper it loudly enough for the hotel manager to hear it. It was a pitiful way of stalling for time while she tried to sort out her options. Flat out refusing might make the hound turn sour on her and put her in that room with the cranky cat after all. Taking the room for free might also backfire on her, and she was carefully considering her options, while trying to look like a clueless and air-headed young lady.

Just when Nappa thought he would be getting what he wanted she startled him so by saying it would be her FIRST kiss. That certainly made her more delectable in his eyes, for a pretty young thing that he could teach the ways of lust to would be an exciting and thrilling proposition and he would be a fool not to take that offer and run with it. In fact, teaching a young female things like that were at the forefront of some of his lonely fantasies.
Then was her father again.
She mentioned him too much for him to play such a minor role in her life, like he was hoping, and while Nappa could use his cleverness over the young, and at times unscrupulous hounds out of their money - a well to do hound who clearly cared about his daughter was a different story entirely. He simply could not act on it, no matter what his libido said.
Though he did not want her to think him a pushover either. He would have to reach a careful medium.
"A first kiss does require courtship," he said, through a carefully contrived smile. "It will be another time that our maws touch my lovely. For now, I shall give you the room for free. A beautiful room for a beautiful hound. Then you can pay me back at your leisure."
This is of course was a ploy to see her again, which he wanted desperately. He was a very lonely, lonely hound. He sidestepped out of the room, allowing her entrance into the new room. Lilia, the slave kitten, slinked out from behind the bed and stood attentively at attention.
"I shall leave you now, my rare flower," he said, bowing low. He didn't immediately leave however, and instead stood ever watchful, hoping that she would ask him to stay. When nothing came, he finally stalked off, wondering if she would be gone by morning.

The hotel hound was apparently capable of displaying some gentleman-like behaviour, and she rewarded him with a shy smile and a giggle. Courtship? This could turn really interesting if she ever decided to visit these parts of Zanzibar again. Perhaps it was lucky that she had dodged offering her name, and lied about where she came from. If he decided to go looking for a young female with a flower name living in Prussia he'd have his work cut out for him... "Haqikah" had nothing to do with flowers and she has only been in Prussia once to attend that disaster of a dinner party.
Haqikah bowed her head slightly in return and tried to look as clueless as possible. Oh, she guessed he might be waiting around in case she changed her mind but she pretended to be oblivious to that. In the end he gave up and she could relax a little bit. He might question the slave tomorrow, but she couldn't be the first hound he met who behaved differently around hounds than around slaves.
"I think I will require a massage before bed," she said to the dark slave as she sprawled on the luxorious bed, "You may put my bag away, but I expect everything to be in order in the morning."
Not that she thought a slave in a hotel would resort to stealing. She looked as if she got fed often enough and there were no visible scars or wounds. You could never be to careful, however, and she kept her money pouch close and securely tied to her neck.
Haqikah felt very accomplished as she left the hotel early the next morning, heading for the Black Market. It had been an enjoyable and interesting stay, and while she wouldn't exactly recomend the hotel to her lady friends she was very pleased with the outcome of her trip so far.

Filth, sleaze-bags and run down homes. He could only be in one place.
Zanzibar.
The name left a foul taste in the Hound's mouth, and made him despise even more the path he trod. It had been a long time since he had been here, years in fact. He was successful now, as he had always sworn to his parents he would be. He was not going to be some washed up old crock in a mudhut waiting for death to grasp their soul and carry them off to whatever wonderland the deceased believed in, ho no! Serpen'teer was more logical then that.
A Hound such as himself was hard to place in this world. He had risen from the s**t of Zanzibar to find himself actually being a pretty profitable business man, dealing in secrets, lies and more importantly, the soft caress of a lover. Sure, he didn't seem like the kind of Hound to enjoy the sensual company of a slave, but he sure knew how to peddle it on the streets. That, at any rate, had been his starting point. A pimp, a seller of common floozy. Yes, he'd sold it to all sorts, and gotten himself a pretty neat bundle of stones to show. He wasn't stupid, and he'd stopped that gambling deal since the loss of his eye to someone he couldn't pay, here, in this very city.
It made him uneasy, being back, but Zanzibar was the only place in Syria where a good, cheap slave could be bought! No where else sold them in such large numbers. The Black Market had had nothing to offer him that day on its auction table, so he had decided to seek out shelter for the night. He had be told of some shabby, cheap little place that dealt it hard liquor and foul temper. A fine enough establishment in this place, at any rate! Making his way through streets he remembered too well, Serpen'teer soon found the run down pit of a hotel, and entered.
Inside was reasonably clean, obviously the work of some slave over the slob of a Hound that was perched in his own little nook, awaiting some poor fool to walk through his door. Well, Serp' thought to himself, it looked like it was him this evening.
"Your finest room, how much?" The Hound asked in a deep baritone as he strode up to the counter, looking about the establishment. His gouged out eye was turned to the Hound upon first entry, but now he snapped his head around so that his one grey-blue eye could assess the male behind the counter. "Unless, of course, that is too much for your rotten hide to remember?" He grinned at the Hound with a little less friendliness then the average crocodile may award its next meal upon the sands of the Nile. "Come come, fellow, I must know now, before I change my mind and seek a... grander abode for my evening!"
