Cody stepped out into the hallway as he finished buttoning up his shirt. As he shut the door to his room above the tavern, he made sure to do so quietly, just in case anyone was still sleeping upstairs. He looked himself over one last time, and satisfied with his dress, made his way down the hall towards the stairs. As he walked, an open door caught his eye, so he took a casual sideways glance, finding the maid busily at work. "Good morning, Ziva," he said quietly as he passed, without stopping to chat.

As he walked down the stairs and into the bar, comb in hand, his hair more-or-less in its "natural" state, he caught sight of Juliet Heart, his landlord, employer, and muse, along with the friendly face of tavern regular Desmund Haynes. "I thought I heard the bell going." Cody bent over in a playful bow that was nearly a daily routine for him. "Welcome back, Mr. Haynes," he added, his tone more like that of a butler than a waiter. Taking a quick glance up at the clock, he stashed his comb into his pants pocket. "Can I get you anything for breakfast, Desmund? Was just about to get something for myself...and, for you, Juliet, if you haven't eaten already." He let out an awkward laugh, and his stomach quickly joined in with an awkward grumbling sound. Living and working in the tavern had its perks: free meals, so to speak; everything he "bought" came out of his pay in the end. Unfortunately, there weren't too many opportunities to sit down and eat a meal when the tavern was busy, so Cody thrived off of breakfast.

Desmund Haynes

"I swear, Officer, the mailbox jumped out in front of me!"

"Stuck with you? You make it sound like that's a BAD thing!" Desmund said with a smirk as he lifted his bottle of bud to his lips for one last, looooooong pull at the liquid within. He finished the bottle and set it forward. Now was the fun part. While Budweiser was his FIRST drink of the day, he rarely ever drank it after that. There were so many hundreds of drinks that could be mixed for him, it was almost too difficult to choose what to drink next! Thinking carefully, he was suddenly interrupted by the waiter who had just arrived. While it was nice to have another person to talk to, Juliete was definitely enough when it came to small talk. It didn't matter, though, for as he said before, the more the merrier. "Well thanks, young man." He said to his welcome from the waiter.

"Breakfast, hmm?" He said as he lifted his hand to his chin in thought. For a moment he contemplated correcting the young Cody Cesarani in making him refer to him as DOCTOR Haynes, but it wasn't TOO big of a deal. Gently stroking his goatee he nodded his head and said, "How about three eggs over easy, with plenty of tobasco sauce, and hash browns and bacon." He nodded again, then looked to Juliete and said, "And with a meal like that I'll need a good, strong, bloody mary. That sound good?"

Juliet couldn't help but smile as Desmund happily announced that her company wasn't all that bad. She knew that most felt that way, but that was simply because she was the company that most people were forced to have during their time of sorrow. During the day when people stumbled into her bar looking for a way to drown her sorrows she was usually the only one there to coax them with a few drinks and kind words. It was her job to be good company. "Glad to hear that's it not." But she already knew that.

Though the pointless chatter between she and Desmund was soon interrupted as another person made their way into the bar area. The smile on her face remained as she realized who it was, for if anyone knew of her skills of coaxing the troubled it was certainly him. A few years had passed since Cody had first stumbled into the bar in order to get as drunk as possibly could, but it wasn't as though she had forgotten the little incident. He was a good though, and she certainly liked having him around. Sometimes when the night was over and the drunks had shuffled their way to their beds it was always nice to have the nice guy around.

"Good morning, Cody." She greeted with a smile, although it was a bit late to say such a thing. Her morning started much earlier, but she couldn't always say that for the rest of the people apart that frequented the tavern. So, she couldn't help but allow a small laugh to escape her upon Cody's offer to get breakfast for them if they desired. "Unlike you two I've already been up for hours, so no thanks." Juliet replied. She had already had her breakfast thanks to Matt earlier that morning, but he had of course kept to himself in the kitchen since then. Although a good cook, he certainly wasn't always a people person.

"One bloody mary coming right up."

[Sorry I haven't gotten my profile for the chef up yet. >.<
But he's kind of anti social so I'm just saying he's hiding in the kitchen. He'll be up soon though -- hopefully.]

"Good morning to you as well Cody." Ziva greeted the waitor as he passed by the empty room, only looking up for a moment from her work. Smiling she went back to the task of cleaning. The current room appeared to be on the dusty side, its contents somewhat disheveled from whoever last inhabited it. "Well whoever stayed here certainly did not keep this room tidy." She noted with a sigh. Shaking her head she moved to start dusting the area. As she swept the duster across the dresser, a light cloud of dust floated up into the air and into her face. It made her nose itch and twitch with discomfort. Any attempt to stop failed as a light sneeze escaped her nose and mouth.

"Whew, that was a tad unpleseant." She said as she gently wiped her nose on a tissue before discarding it into a trash bin. "An open window should help though." With that she walked over to the window, unlocked it and opened it to allow the fresh July air into the room. "There, much better." With a smile she took in a breath of the outside air before going back to dusting.

About ten minutes later she finsihed with the room, which was thankfully her last for that morning. "All done. Now I can take a break and maybe grab some breakfast." Humming lightly she put away her cleaning supplies, storing them into a small closet located a few doors down the hall from her own room. Wiping off her somewhat dusty hands she walked down the hall towards the stairs; the wonderful smell of breakfast wafting through the air as she went.

"Bonjourno everyone." She greeted the few people in the bar with her usual warm smile as she walked into the bar.

"Good morning!" Cody called out, hearing Ziva greet everyone. He was in the kitchen with Matt, making his own breakfast via toaster, while the cook was quickly and quietly putting together Desmund's meal, along with a single egg for Cody to put on his bread. Cody didn't know much of anything about cooking, and the one time he asked Matt for a few pointers, he was given a silent glare back in return. Ever since, the only food that Cody put together himself was toasted bread and the things that went on it.

Considering his circumstances, though, he couldn't be happier. The tavern was his home, and its staff were his family. Desmund, too, I suppose. He drinks so much, he might as well live here. Once the customers began trickling in, Cody would become a paragon of manners, but in the mornings, he was less a waiter and more an average man. I feel like the man of the house...and Juliet is--burning? He had left his toast in for too long. As if to confirm his suspicions, the toaster made a "ding" and his bread popped up, lightly scorched. "Note to self: check the toaster's settings before using it." With a sigh of disappointment, Cody stuck his head out of the kitchen, a smile plastered on his face; even if he was peeved, he didn't have to show it to the customers, or the staff. "Hungry, Ziva?"

It wasn’t even two o’clock, but the day had already seemed to have lasted a century. A sharp glance down to the beautifully crafted Swiss watched latched onto his wrist had informed Nick of the time of day, and it was because of that information that Nicholas Sanders was all the more frustrated. He wanted the day to be over; he wanted to be able to hide away for the rest of the weekend to think over what had just happened. But instead he had to fix it. Again his blue hues darted down to the watch, as though another glance would engender the time to leap further into the future. It didn’t. Usually Nick wasn’t so flustered so early in the afternoon, but today was different, today marked one of his first blunders. Because of that, a frown was so intricately fixed onto the usually smiling lips that belonged to him, while his brows were narrowed firmly above the slits of his eyes.

He had to think.

Briskly he paced across his office within the main building of Sanders Industries, his eyes briefly laying themselves upon the different lavish Victorian pieces in his office before getting torn away to look at another. Finally, he stopped behind his desk, eyes glancing over to look down at the papers that were currently scattered upon its top in a mess. The frown still remained, and with that frown still plastered upon his face he pulled out his chair and plopped himself down into it. His hands fumbled for the edges of his unbuttoned suit jacket, straightening the edges to create some kind of look of put togetherness – it didn’t last long. Soon his body slouched into his chair, eyes following his hands as they reached for one of the reports that was before him.

Numbers were strewed all over the page, each number attached to names of minerals and resources; though these numbers were unforgivably low. This never happened. Sanders Industries never turned up empty handed upon the completion of a job – until now at least. If only he hadn’t insisted to his father that it was a good idea; if only he hadn’t taken the advice of one of the investors and started the job where he wouldn’t have thought to before. But he had, and it was because of his bad business decision that money would be lost. Maybe if he just flew out to the site and took a look for himself, maybe then he could convince his investors that he was just as perplexed as they were. Then again, maybe it was best for him to stay and oversee more work at the mines located close to home.

What the ******** should I do, Naomi?” Although anger was laced in his words, they escaped him in a desperate pleading manner. “I ******** up. He announced as he spilled the papers back onto his desk. Slowly, Nick leaned back in his chairs, his hands reaching up and clenching his hair for a moment before he released his clenched fists and set them down upon the armrest. This is the last time I listen to my investors.” He never made mistakes like this. Nick Sanders never picked a bad location when he was on his own accord. If he had his father would’ve never granted him so much control so quickly. He had been praised for being a brilliant businessmen so early in his life, and that was something he had always accomplished without the input of his stupid, greedy investors.

Finally, a sigh escaped him, and with it his flustered emotions. If there was anything that Nick Sanders detested it was when he appeared as though he was not in control of the situation, and thankfully for him his assistant was the only one who ever witnessed him in such a state – and she was someone he could rely on. He pulled himself forward to his desk, his body leaning over the grand wooden piece as he gathered up the papers that still remained scattered across its surface. He did so until they were collected in a neat pile, his eyes still narrowing as they once again took notice of the numbers scribbled on the reports. However, he refrained from throwing the unfortunate reports across the room due to the fact that he actually felt like he knew what to do.

Nick’s eyes darted over to his assistant that lingered in the room with him according to his request. “Can you get me the lists of sites discussed at that last meeting?” His voice was calmer now, his usual confidence getting breathed back into his words as he continued speaking. “I’m just going to have to remind the investors that I know what I’m doing.” And in order to do that he was going to have to pick a location that would reap more benefits for them.

If there was anything that Nick Sanders had learned about investors it was that they weren’t always good at the job that they paid for – but thankfully, he was.

User ImageAt the local diner, Murphy's, the wait staff were either ending shifts or cleaning up from the lunch rush. Ashley was busing tables, which involved putting any scraps in a bowl, putting the dishes on the cart, and then wiping down to table with a brown but wet with disinfectant cloth. Each time she took the cart back she would stop to munch on her own plate of lunch.
While she was legally required to have a 30 minute lunch break, and she did write her time card as such, she liked this system better. By working and taking brief moments to eat those small moments were just part of the 30 minutes, not interrupting her work. In addition, her lunch wasn't timed, she could graze (which she preferred) and she could get away with more things when her boss knew she worked through lunch. It just made things easier.
Ashley was humming an up-beat tune as she wiped down her current table. Not only had tips been good today, but she had won a rather big pool over whether or not a local would send back food that was the wrong order. Yesterday that scenario had cost her the $10 she put in, plus the tip for the table, since there was none. Yesterday the 'mistake' was ignored, but with the exception of no tip. Last night she watched Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man with a bottle of Rum and mixed with ice cream and rootbeer; tonight she'd be going to the Tavern.

Desmund Haynes

"Shhh...... I'm 'sober'!"

Desmund sat back as he waited for Cody to return. The truth was that he'd already been up for a couple hours, but he generally didn't eat right after he woke up. He did some work on his computer, managed his stocks, got dressed and came down here. He was perfectly content with having to wake up a little early before coming down for his Friday bender, but as always by this time he was starting to get hungry, so Cody's arrival was a blessing. Naturally the bloody mary he ordered would make thing just that much better. He watched as Juliet filled the tall glass with ice, filled it halfway with vodka, then poured the spiced tomato juice mix on top of it. The blood red liquid slowly dripped down through the clear liquor below before she would finally drop the straw down through the ice, breaking a hole for the mix to dilute downward through. When the drink was done was when Ziva entered the room and greeted everyone.

"Ah, good morning my young Italian maid. Are the customers treating you well today?" He called out with a smile toward the young lady. She was almost so cute that it hurt, but luckily the drink he'd just received would ease whatever pain he had left. He sucked gently on the straw and sure enough the booze was nice and strong with a spicy kick that would do the job just fine. He let a good satisfied "Ahh..." go when he was finished with his initial sip. What made the moment even better was that he could already smell his bacon cooking. It was going to be great.

It was soon after Juliet had slid the drink she prepared over to Desmund that the maid of the Tavern sauntered down the stairs with her usual skip in her step. At first Juliet just glanced over at the girl as for that moment she was still focused on getting the drink ordered to the customer, but the moment she slid the glass over that flawless smile of hers brightened up her features once more. The girl was sweet and a good worker, and those were possibly the only two adjectives needed to describe the girl. She was one of the many that Juliet had brought into her little family with open arms, and she was also one of the ones that Juliet had created a job for. Truth be told, Juliet would've been fine without a maid cleaning up after her, for she had always been perfectly fine cleaning up the rooms early in the morning before the others were awake or sending one of her wait staff to go do so throughout the day. However, when a hurt puppy was left at her doorstep she couldn't help provide them with whatever she needed it, for although she was a business owner, Juliet had a heart.

"Good morning to you too, Ziva." She greeted finally, giving the girl a small wave once her hands were free of the drink. "Would you like anything to drink?" She offered, knowing that the girl wouldn't dare reply with a request for alcohol. That was a no go for workers, at least until all the dinners were served and the party begun.

It seemed as though it was only moments after she said that that Cody peeked through the door that he currently hid behind, asking Ziva if she wanted any food as well. He was a good waiter, and it was because of that that Juliet almost felt bad that he was stuck in the kitchen with Matt at that current moment. Matt didn't like anyone, except for Juliet of course, and regardless of how many times they greeted him and invited him to do things with them he simply saw them all as annoying. Though Cody was a sweet heart, and because of that she knew he was perfectly fine putting up with Matt, and that was something she was thankful for.

"Well, I guess everyone here likes to start off their morning with a late breakfast." She cooed with a small laugh and a smile.

Ziva's head popped up hearing Cody ask if she was hungry, his head poking out of the kitchen door. "Oh, hello Cody...Yeah, I am a bit hungry I haven't eaten yet today." She replied with a nod and smile before her stomach emitted a light growl. "Er, if you don't mind a couple eggs and sausage would be nice....Uh, is that burnt toast I smell?" The smell of burnt bread was present in the air, causing her petite nose to wrinkle slightly. Upon hearing Desmund speak to her, Ziva turned her small frame around to face his direction.

"Ah, yes they are I suppose. Though I haven't bumped into any yet today, well except for the slight mess some left behind." Giggling lightly she walked over to a nearby empty table, taking a seat. She then proceeded to adjust her dress, making sure nothing was flashing anyone after she sat. "There we go, all nice and decent." She said quietly to herself. Smiling the brunette lifted her head up to look at Juliet, the owner of the tavern.

"Hello Juliet. It's a nice day out today isn't it?" At the bartender's question, the Itallian shook her head. "No thank you, I'm good. I've had a couple glasses of water throughout the morning. Maybe later tonight, when everyone's taken care of, I'll have one." She replied referring to the alcohol in her last sentence. Ziva knew that workers were not to order any during the majority of the day and night; she wasn't one for drinking anyway. With that she turned around in her seat and pulled out a newspaper to read for the time being. Humming lightly to herself she paged through the sections, skimming through the various accounts of locoal and international news. Once in a while, an article dealing with Israle would catch her attention; however, it usually dealt with the war and dispeutes of the country.

Naomi Windsor

The hard working assistant to Mr. Sanders

Naomi was busy typing away on her laptop, which was situated off to the right of Nicks, set up so that it was perpendicular to his so that all she had to do when sitting there was to glance to the left just a bit in order to see him. She was busy sending emails and writing up reports on his behalf, trying to cover the mess that was happening at this very moment. Her milky brown eyes focused on the screen and her fingers moved with blurring speed as she worked. After a few moments she finally stopped to take a brief five second break before looking through a stack of papers on her desk. They were the same papers that Nick was looking at; copies, naturally. When he spoke up she glanced over at him with a smirk. She did not respond at first. Nick was brilliant, but he was also in a slight panic which was making him very stupid at the moment. She knew that all he needed to do was breathe for a few moments to clear his head and she was busy thinking up her own solutions to the problems that they had. It wasn't until he audibly blamed his investors that she stopped what she was doing. She didn't visibly move, or look away from the pages she was reading, but her eyes had stopped scanning them and her fingers had clenched the sheets of paper ever so tightly that if someone were to poke the pages in the middle they would surely tear. She took a breath, then two. She could only imagine what was going through his mind at the moment, and she didn't like it at all. If she were a lesser woman she would have leaped over the desk right then and there and strangled him to death. He didn't know it, and she wouldn't show it, but investors "ruining things" was a touchy subject for her. One that was the entire reason for her joining Sanders Industries in the first place. Those poor people who he was badmouthing were probably no different from her parents. But then again, she had never met them face to face, only spoken on the phone and read emails, so she really wouldn't be able to tell. Not everyone in the world was innocent and maybe these people really were trying to screw him over? That's what she'd have to tell herself in order to calm down.

Slowly, her eyes started moving again and she forced a very light smile to curl the edges of her lips. In the time it took for her to regain composure he was able to calm down and start thinking again. She felt safe that her little invisible outburst likely went unnoticed due to his own more visible freak out. When he gave her an actual order she nodded and reported back with a smile and a warm tone of voice, "Printing." She hit the print button after quickly bringing up the file, then turned to the printer that was located to her right and grabbed the pages as they came out, colating them and finally placing a clip over their edge so that they would remain together but could be separated should Nick desire. She stood up, revealing the entirety of her suit; a deep gray jacket over a white blouse, and a skirt to match the jacket that went down just above her knees. The blouse was unbuttoned just enough to show a small amount of cleavage without it being to tasteless and unprofessional. She pivoted on the balls of her feet and took the few steps to deliver the pages to her boss.

"That's right, sir," She said as she handed the pages over to him. "In no way can you show weakness to these people. As far as they're concerned, you are God with this operation. Infallible." She smiled charmingly at him, hoping that his legendary ego could be stroked with such words. All he needed was a little encouragement and a strong line of support, and that was precisely part of her job.

During his little outburst Nick's eyes had rarely trailed over to his assistant, as she quietly dealt with the situation at hand. However, now that he was sitting quietly at his desk he allowed his gaze to drift over to her. As per usual she was quick to do as he requested, and it wasn't even minutes after he mentioned the reports that the printer purred with activity. He allowed his eyes to follow her hands as they reached for the pages, gathering each one as they slid out into the tray. She stood up, and the moment she did his eyes shot up to her face as she sauntered over to where he sat.

Nick then snatched the pages from her, another quick sigh escaping him as he did so. He didn't quite feel like delving into the text of the reports, for upon doing so he would be forced to see the proposal that led him to be as flustered as he currently was. Different locations were written on the paper, each one followed by the reasoning behind building mines in those areas. A scowl soon became evident on his features as he glanced over the one that was suggested -- the one that had reaped nothing after all the work was poured into it.

Stupid investors.

Though thankfully, Naomi continued to speak as she handed the papers to him, and it was through her words that he found himself distracted. As per usual, she cooed kind words to him; her praises meant to stroke his currently slightly wounded ego. However, his confidence was not so easily shaken, especially considering that Nick failed to believe that the whole mishap was the result of his bad ideas. The only bad thing he did was put his faith in the wrong people, and that was something that he could easily avoid in the future.

A smirk slid across his lips at her mention of his greatness, and of course he couldn't help but bask in her words. “Isn't it a little inappropriate to be flirting with me in a time like this, Princess?" He mused coyly as he tore his eyes away from the pages and placed them upon his lovely assistant. His words were quite pointless, and he knew that teasing her in such a way would surely get him nowhere. For some reason that Nick remained oblivious too his wonderful assistant failed to fall prey to the games that he played with so many women -- and that was quite unfortunate. He didn't push it, for last thing he wished to do was to scare away someone that worked as hard as she did.

But to him it didn't make any sense; if anyone knew to love him, it should have been her.

I really don't want this right now, I was in such a good mood too. She flinched when one pointed to her table.
"No, no, no" pleaded Ashley, her head ticking away from the table each time as she watched from behind the employees only door.
They eventually all shuffled, loudly, into the establishment, and choose a different table, also in Ashley's section. 'Crap.' she thought, as her head fell into the door in front of her. It took but a moment before she straightened her spine, plastered a smile onto her lips, and announced her presence with a violent push to the door. This entrance went unnoticed. Ashley walked to the table, paused, then picked a moment to speak.
"Hello, welcometothebestplace to grababite or dineatyourleisure, Murphy's Diner. HowmayIbeofservice today?"

Desmund Haynes

"Have a nice dose of social lubricant!"

Six hours passed by at least somewhat quickly for Desmund as he sat in his chair, drinking the afternoon away. His meal had been brought out to him by Cody and, as usual, the chef did a remarkable job considering that this was just some little tavern. Desmund always sent a cash tip back to the chef because the food was always good and he was once a cook back in his earlier days in college, so he understood that despite being a culinary artist of fine calibur, he likely wasn't getting paid like one. The bacon was perfect, and the eggs were seasoned just right to allow for their full potential. It was fantastic. The bloody mary that Juliet had prepared was top notch, as well. After his meal was finished he continued his small talk with the tavern workers while contemplating his sudoku puzzles or watching TV, naturally all while nursing a drink of course.

But now was the time of day when things started to get lively. His late brunch was enough to sustain him until now, and the drinks he consumed kept his stomach full, so he wasn't really thinking about eating at the moment despite the fact that it was two hours passed the traditional dinner time. No, he would continue to drink his calories for the day unless he got the munchies later on, which was totally possible (and likely). By now the dinner rush was wrapping up and those who had the intent to party were sticking around. He had the urge to go over and play something on the Jukebox, but would wait for a while because it wouldn't be allowed to be turned up very loud, and that would just be a waste of money. He was content with just sitting there and enjoying the sights and sounds of a restaurant that was winding down. People watching was his forte and if someone made eye contact with him he's speak up and say what was on his mind, just to see what their reaction was. "Hey, Juliet... when you get a chance, make me a Kraken and Coke, will ya?"

He tipped the remainder of his drink and pushed it forward so that she could get him a fresh glass for the black spiced rum cocktail. Kraken was his new favorite rum. It was 94 proof and had such a magnificent flavor that he almost felt bad mixing it with coke, but he needed the caffeine in order to keep going or else the depressive qualities of the booze would make him want to take a nap.
