Eve nodded as she could faintly sense it the way she could sense if Damin had been destroying her garden. Her eyes saw the symbols, a little surprised by them.

She stopped as a chill went down her spine when Azrael mentioned the change in the statues and looked behind her. "I don't think those statues are like others, Azrael. They might be like Terracatta soldiers, those are supposed to come alive if cursed to protect the tomb of a ruler."

Sure, she wanted to see what was behind the gates. Her eyes widened at the gates as they were even impressive the closer the kids got to them.

"So... If we stay away from them and don't go around robbing graves we should be good... right?" Azrael asked slowly, tail slowly moving back and forth. Several long moments passed by, seeming more like hours than about ten seconds but either way, it revealed that the statues weren't leaving their pedestals and had no intent on doing so.

"Well, if they come after us we can make a break for it. Maybe they can only go so far before the magic on them wears off?" Azrael pondered aloud, waving to one of the statues and was rather stunned when it tilted its head almost curiously. Making a mental note to return later, his orange eyes returned to the gate in front of them.

"Alright. Now for what we've come here for... The back gate."

"That's the theory at least," she watched the statues warily. What she had said about the soldiers was said to be a myth though she didn't trust that. "No robbing or walking over graves and I think they'll just watch us."

"I know a few teleporting spells that could get us to safety if they come after us."

She walked closer to the gates, "What kind of creatures do you think live behind this gate?"

The curiousity that even her mother said was a curse sometimes flared as she wanted to see what lived in the woods behind the gate.

"Teleportation spells? Those would definitely be helpful if that happens," Azrael commented, slowly opening the gate and peering around. "Well, I would suspect the usual creatures like rabbits and squirrels but rumor has it that there are also ghosts back there." Not to mention other fiendish things but the pumpkin demon didn't really think some of things mentioned were all that bad.

Demons, angels, zombies, he had met them all. Some even a combination of the two and they weren't all that bad. Not to mention he, himself, was a demon. "Nothing yet. C'mon." And with those three words, the purple-skinned boy was through the gate and moving slowly down the old and worn path to who knew where.

"If we use one of those spells, keep in mind that we might end up in an entirely different world than Gaia."

Eve was not good at teleporting spells at all. She really hoped they wouldn't need them.

She smirked at the mention of ghosts, something she'd read about mostly. The ragdoll followed him through the gate, looking around slowly. She held a hand close to her, a light spell in her mind in case it got too dark for her to see anything.

She turned as she heard movement to her left, it didn't sound like any animal she had heard of before.

"Ah, well, then perhaps we should just hope we can run faster than them," Azrael replied, gazing around in awe at the forest. It was all gnarled and twisted with trees looming high into the sky and blocking out a good chunk of the light. Farther down the path, however, were several oil lamps that slowly seemed to light themselves and glow in the dim twilight.

"That's creepy... Did you hear that?" he asked, whispering and moving a little closer to Eve. Two were more formidable than one to any enemy generally.

The forest was amazing, the ragdoll's dream of a place to explore though it made her skin crawl. She reached out to a tree near them, where she could faintly make out someone's face in the trunk of the tree.

Her eyes narrowed slightly at the lamps, enough light for them to see by at least.

She nodded as she heard movement in the shadow, "Yes, I do." She struggled to remember the few spells that Damin had taught her to use for self-defence. There weren't any plants that she could put energy into and take control of, well there was plants, but the little girl really did not want to have to use those.

"It sounds big," she said softly.

Azrael nodded, orange eyes glowing softly as he looked around. It had to be the perfect place to go on Halloween on a dare or to hide out in. But as the mention of something big being nearby, he instantly became alert. Searching, he didn’t see anything hiding in the shadows but then again, who did in those horror movies he sometimes was able to watch late at night?

“Keep on the look-out. I have a knife I snitched from my brother who snitched it from Ary so it should be good. Unless he realizes I took it,” he muttered, making no move to remove it from his pocket. Why reveal where a weapon was hidden when anyone could use it? Besides, it could just be a rabbit making more noise than it should in the silent forest... Right?

The place was wonderful, but it scared the ragdoll than she was willing to ever admit. She didn't want to say it, but perhaps staying with her babysitter and making him come with her might have been better.

She had only seen a few horror films, but all she recalled was that usually those that wandered in any creepy place with big creatures wandering around ended up chased or eaten.

"I have a few defense spells. Hopefully that and the knife might be useful," she replied. Her eyes narrowed as she got an idea, "Hold on, perhaps I could see what's around here. I've been working with plants a lot the last few months."

She spotted a vine and walked towards it, laying a hand on it and taking a breath before putting her energy into the vine to see if anything deadly was near them.

She could make out the sense of animals running around and several wolves, but there was something that wasn't an animal nor human. Almost like a golem that she recalled reading about it.

“Where did you learn all those spells?” Azrael asked, looking curiously at Eve for a few moments. Sure granting luck had its uses when bribing someone, but in times like these it had absolutely no use whatsoever. Not to mention it sounded cool when someone knew more than one trick or charm. Before he could continue his thoughts any farther, the demon felt what Eve had sensed hiding among the darkness. A soft tremor was sent through the earth as a heavy foot collided with the ground, and it didn’t sound close either.

“What the-?! Crap,” the pumpkin demon muttered, stumbling a little as the earth shook again but at a higher magnitude and thus far more violently. Another footfall and the sound of breaking trees echoed through the once silent forest. “It’s… It’s a golem!” Azrael shouted, picking himself up after the last tremor sent the poor boy sprawling on the ground. It was like an earthquake that violently started and stopped whenever it felt like and grew in power as it went. It was only a matter of time till the earth itself split in two. With very few places to go and little they could do to attack a giant made out of stone or earth, there was just one thing they could do; “RUN!”

"Howl, my uncle Damin, and any spell books I find around the house," Eve answered as the girl tried to learn everything she could. Partially out of bordom and her thirst for knowledge. She jumped back from the vine as she felt the tremor.

Eve's eyes narrowed as she tried to remember what she had read about golems. If it was a golem, then it was meant to protect the forest. However such creatures weren't brain trusts to tell the truth.

"No, up the tree. They are not that smart and if we stay out of sight, it might not attack us," she still kept a binding spell at the front of her mind in case they needed to run to avoid an early death.

Azrael looked doubtfully at Eve, having heard a bit otherwise. Mostly pertaining to how large one was and, judging by the damage already, he was pretty sure if the thing got close they were screwed. Stupid or not, that thing was uprooting several trees with a single step and remaining still wouldn't exactly be easy.

"That tree over there looks good, and it's close to the gate in case we have to run to avoid being squished," he pointed out, already heading for it. It seemed out of the way of the golem and was sturdier with closer branches than the rest of them, giving the two a better chance at remaining in the air and possibly out of sight. Within moments the pumpkin demon had scrambled up to one of the larger branches that seemed to be swarmed with other, much smaller ones. It wasn't like he blended in, having shockingly orange hair and eyes so he had to chose a far better concealed area in the end.

Eve had never met a golem though, but she was not saying that out loud. He did have a point. You didn't have to be smart in order to be uproot trees which the golem that was coming towards seemed to do with only its footsteps.

She nodded, willing to get out of the way before both children ended up as pancake. That wasn't a good thought. She climbed up the tree after him and hid on a branch lower than the one he sat on. She was for once grateful for being a small child instead of tall for her age. Her form was hidden in some shadows.

The golem came near the tree, looking for the two intruders it sensed. No one was on the ground. So it looked behind its self before looking towards the tree.

Azrael froze as the golem came into view, eyes wide as he watched the big hulking figure. Never in his life would he have expected such a figure to be waiting at the back of a graveyard. Never would he actually encounter a rumor that was TRUE. As they waited, silent and unmoving in the tree, the golem slowly turned and headed off farther into the forest in hopes of finding them there.

Once the earthquake-like footsteps faded to near nothing did the pumpkin demon dare a soft sigh of relief. "That was close. Did you see how big that thing was?" he asked Eve quietly, orange eyes flashing in the dim light. Despite being well out of earshot of the hulking figure, he didn't want to risk being overheard by something else that might be waiting close by. "I wonder if it's guarding something..."

Eve was speechless at the creature's size. When she had read about golems, it had been a bedtime story, but as a slow grin came to her face, she wasn't as scared as she would be otherwise. She remained still though, not wanting to get crushed by the golem.

She nodded, "Yes, I did. I thought golems were a bedtime story." His last comment made her look at him with a frown. Golems tended to kill those that disturbed what they guarded. "They often are made to protect artifacts or secrets. Stuff that their creators wanted to keep from others."

She climbed up to the branch he was on, but lost her grip and closed her eyes when she started to fall.
