A Lively Buy - 12.27.05

All conversation stopped as the two girls entered Bellus Pupa. The only sound came from the bell atop the door as it settled back into place, and after it stopped, then there was nothing. The shopkeeper gave the two girls a smile.

“Welcome,” came voice from her lips, “Welcome to Bellus Pupa.”

The two girls looked at each other. One tilted her head at the other, receiving a shrug for an answer. Even before someone entered the shop he could tell that it sold dolls, many of which we obviously made of porcelain. Now, within the store, the dolls seemed to be less happy and inviting.

The girl that had opened the door and caused the stillness grinned, turning so that her back was facing the shopkeeper and her companion. She was short, but she held her head high and shoulders back in such a way that it made her look much taller. “Well,” she whispered to her friend, “we are here, so we might as well look around, right?”

“But, Kami,” the other answered back, “the dolls… I don’t like their stare. They just look…evil. Even the happy ones.”

“I’ll protect you if they come to life and try to chop your head off,” Kami said sarcastically. “They’re dolls, Zac. Dolls are inanimate objects that cannot hurt you. Well, I guess if I threw at you it might hurt, but that would be me doing the hurting through doll, and that’s not the same thing…”

“Okay, but it’s not just that. It’s cold.” As if to illustrate her point, Zac pulled her coat closer around her and shivered. “Can we go somewhere else?”

“It’s not too cold,” Kami said, ignoring the fog from her warm breath. “Just suck it up, Zac.” Kami gave Zac a reassuring nod then turned back to face the shopkeeper. She made a quick grab for her friends hand and ran to the counter. “We are looking for some dolls.”

“Obviously you would come to a doll shop to look for dolls. If I am not mistaken, doll shops do usually sell dolls,” interrupted a voice from behind the counter.

“Is that an insult, boy?” Kami growled as she made a fist with her right hand.

“Kami, calm down…”

“Fine, Zac. He is just a boy after all. Wait… Why is there a boy in a doll shop?” Kami thought aloud. She leaned over the counter to a get a closer look at the young man. He skin was, she noticed, pale like many of the dolls in the shop. It stood from his jet black hair, black turtleneck, and black pants. His skin was not the thing she was interesting, however. It was the doll he held close to him in his hands. It stared back at her with lifeless eyes, frowning at the world in general. Kami leaned back and folded her arms across her chest. “And why does a boy have a doll? Boys aren’t supposed to play with dollies.”

“Kami, please,” Zac pleaded with her friend.

“No, wait… Zac, didn’t your cousin play with dolls? Of course, he always was… that way.”

The boy did not reply to her insults or do anything to show he had even heard. “Aki?”

The shopkeeper cocked her head at the sound of her name, but she did not turn to look at him. “Sir?”

“I will be leaving now. Make sure that these girls get exactly what they are looking for…” The boy quietly walked out the door. After he left the room it seemed to have gotten warmer, yet less life-like…

“What are you looking for?” Aki asked politely.

Zac gave another shiver from under Aki’s gaze. “Yes, what are we looking for?”

Kami thought for a moment. She hadn’t actually thought about what to get yet… She made her decision then nodded. She motioned the shopkeeper closer then leaned across to whisper in her ear. Aki nodded and ran into the back room. She came out with two decorative boxes, one twice the size of the other. She rang them up, and after Kami paid and filled out some forms, handed them to each of the girls. “Take good care of them. Come again.”

Happyzac

"Eww, eww, eww!" Zac darted out of the shop as fast as she could; the stares from the dolls were just too creepy. She did, however, make sure to grab the box that the shopkeeper handed to her. Aik, Ick, Ike, something to that effect. The name didn't matter anyways, all that did matter was that the shopkeeper did not look human. It didn't take Zac too long to realize that she was missing Kami. Her boots screeched as she skidded to a halt on the cobblestone path. "Kami! Kami, over here!" She wasn't quite sure if Kami could hear her or not, but anything that broke the previous silence from the doll shop was welcomed.

Kami.no.Kurai

Kami raised an eyebrow at the absence of her friend. She shrugged in a way that could be best described as uncaring, causing her jacket to slip farther down her shoulders. She ignored the blank stare from the shopkeep on her back as she walked out of the creepy store with her newest toy held loosely beneath her arm. It was at this time she heard Zac and her loud mouth, and it was this time that she became annoyed. "I told you dolls can't hurt you, so you don't need to be scared. It's not like they are going ot come alive!" Kami said in a tone somewhere between serious and sarcastic as she approached Zac. "If they do, they would take you out just because you are annoying them by being so
scared..."

Happyzac

"That's not funny Kami!" Zac folded her arms and stuck out her lower lip. She was acting like a child... a spoiled child. It was hard to believe that one of her life's goals was to become a mom. She stuck out her tounge at Kami and straightened up, obviously feeling triumphiant in this battle of whits. She then remembered the rather large package that she was squishing against her breast. "Kami, how much do I owe you for the doll?" Zac wasn't even quite sure she wanted one, after all she never asked for it, but either way she knew it would be wrong not to pay her friend back.

Kami.no.Kurai

"Consider it a present. I always forget your birthday, anyways..." Kami turned her attention away from her friend-- her somewhat annoying friend-- and to the box under her arm. She lifted up to hold it with two hands and stared at the front of the box. "I bought these without checking what was in them, but if she listened to what I told her, we should like them," Kami thought aloud. She lifted the front cover of the box to peer at the doll inside. She grinned and gave a playful poke at the clear plastic blocking her way to her precious doll. "Yes, I think we will like them quite a lot."

Happyzac
Zac grinned at her friend. "Hey thanks!" She peered over her friend's shoulder to gaze at the doll box. "Your doll's funny looking... in a sorta neat way." She pulled back the front cover of her own box to look at the doll inside... or rather dolls. "Kami, I've got two dolls! They look like twins; they have matching hats, aswell." Zac waved her box up to her friend's face, though whether it was to show them off or to give her a better look is unknown.

Kami.no.Kurai

Kami either ignored Zac or wasn't all that impressed, for she closed the cover to her own doll and took a seat on the pavement without answering. She had already decided that if someone decided to trip over her on the sidewalk that she would make sure to get revenge- tenfold, of course. She held the doll box close to her chest to protect it, just in case. After a few moments of silence on her part, Kami finally decided that she should acknowledge Zac, at least a bit. "They're cute, and I think they fit you pretty well. Of course, I have no clue what we can do with them now. Just set them up in our rooms, I guess."

Happyzac

Zac grinned and hugged the doll box close to her chest without bothering to she the cover down tight, therefore bending it out of place. "Yeah! They do fit me, huh?" She plopped down next to Kami and smiled. "I'm gonna put mine right on the coffee table in my den after I clean all the old pizza boxes and phonebooks off of it! Won't they look just darling there?" Zac was definately not known for her cleaning skills, so it would be quite a challenge for her to clean the small table entirely, coffee stains and all.

Kami.no.Kurai

Kami twitched at the thought of Zac's house and anything, including human body parts, coming out without some type of, as Zac would put it, an oopsie. The destructive powers of the house could leave scars. "How about... we keep them at my place?" Kami suggested between nervous laughs. "You can come visist them whenever you like... You do still have the key to my apartment, don't you? You didn't try to take it with your medication again, did you?"

Happyzac

Zac rolled her eyes. "Ha, ha. I go to the emergency one time because I swallow a key and you have to make a crack at it all the time! It's not like it was an uncommon thing for me to do!" She hugged her box closer to her chest, continuing to ruin the collectors' value of it. Having her dolls at Kami's wouldn't be fun, but neither would breaking them. "Alright, whenever I get my apartment cleaned up I'll put them in my living room. Until them they need to be kept safe..." Zac remebered how creepy Kami's doll looked before finishing her thought, "...and far away from your doll."

Kami.no.Kurai

"Until your apartment's cleaned up? Then they're never going home!" Kami whined as she took to her feet. Her expression suddenly changed from that of a brat, to anger, and then finally to a crazy grin, one that said that any time she could snap. Of course, that was any time with Kami anyways, but the grin made it look even more obvious than usual. She stood up straight and stuck her nose in the air as high as she could, which actually wasn't too high, considering her height difficulties. "I'll make sure they stay far away from each other."

Happyzac

Zac placed her hands on her hips and towered over her friend. Her box was tucked neatly under her right arm as she did this. "Well you'd better! I don't want to come over there and see my dolls broken!" The silly brunette then grinned and used her left arm to give Kami a hug/headlock. "After all, you spent a lot of money on these little guys, that would suck for you to spend all that money and then have them break."

Kami.no.Kurai

"That was exactly what I was thinking," Kami said through somewhat-exagerated gasping breaths. This was basically true; Kami just left out the angrier, more violent parts of her thoughts. Kami shifted
her doll box so that is was under her left arm, also known as the place as far away from Zac as possible. "Now let go of me so we can pick out a proper a place at my house for them."

Happyzac

"Kay!" Zac released Kami from her hug of death and stood up straight once again. At almost six feet tall she really was just a loveable Baby Hughie.* Her grin spread from ear to ear as she enclosed her free hand over Kami's. "Let's gooo! I want to pick out the perfect spot! Perhaps on one of your end tables. You still have those right? You know, the ones made out of wood."

*Baby Hughie was an old cartoon about a giant duckling that was very nice, but way too big. He would always come tumbling in and screw up all the other ducklings' games.

Kami.no.Kurai

Kami thought about pulling her hand away from the death grip Zac had on her, but then she decided it probably would result in more pain if she did. "No, they're made out of geletin now," Kami said in the high-pitch, sarcastic tone that she always uses. "Of course I still have them! Why wouldn't I? It's not like I'd actually throw something valuable away..." Kami stopped to think for a second, something she figured was foreign to Zac, "Yeah, I still have them, and there should be at least one that is safe for your dolls."

Happyzac

"At least one? What do you have on the other ones, magazines? I don't own any magazines," Zac stated a-matter-o-factly. She seemed so proud of herself that she didn't cave into the evil hypnotic rants of the magazine salesmen. They were all after the little money she had! She flashed her teeth with a quick grin one more time before starting to walk towards the apartment complex that they both resided in. It didn't matter if Kami wasn't ready to leave, Zac was and she was also bigger.

Kami.no.Kurai

Kami wasn't ready to leave, of course, but she went along with Zac anyways. One reason could be that she thought she was less likely to be hurt if she didn't fight. The other, more probable reason could be because Zac is bigger. Kami also suspects that at least one of Zac's many drugs and medicines gave her superhuman strength... It was either that or Kami was weak, and Kami wouldn't accept that. Or it could be, as Kami would put it, that maybe she just liked being nice to "special" people like Zac and went along with it.

Happyzac

Hm...... De.... Dum..... De, dum... dee... dee... dum.... dee... da.. dum.. de.. dum.. de.. daa.. dum...

She hummed quietly to herself as she walked. It was peaceful, and Zac almost forgot that she was in the midst of dragging Kami home. In fact, she didn't realize that they were even near the apartments until she walked right into the rusted green gate signifying the entrance to the complex. "Gah! Is it locked again?" Her grip on Kami gradually loosened as she rattled the gate on it's little track. "Open up! I forgot my ID card to get in!" It never occured to her to see if Kami had one.

Kami.no.Kurai

Kami flexed her now free hand to see if everything was intact. From what Kami could tell, her hand was fine, even if it was a bit sweaty and numb from holding hands with Zac. She wiped her hand off on her pants then slipped it into her pocket. From this pocket she pulled out two objects then proceeded to wave it in front of Zac. She was hoping that Zac would realize that Kami had her ID card, espeically since she was waving it in front of her face, and that she didn't need to keep banging on the gate. Zac did have a tendency not to notice things, such as the warnings on her medication, but she thought Zac may be able to notice it and the extra-shiney coin that she just happened to have in her pocket today.

Happyzac

Shiney? The moment she saw the glinting in the sunlight her attention was diverted from the evil gate to Kami's hand. "Hey! That would go great in my shiney box... I mean... my... collection!" Yes, Zac had a shiney box that was covered in foil and filled with all sorts of odds an ends. It was more like something a ferret would own. Stepping forward to snatch what would be her newest addition to it from her friend's hand, Zac instead grabbed the ID Card. Ah well, good enough. Without a word Zac slipped the card into the slot and watched the gate open. She then retrived the card and returned it to Kami, very businesslike. Before stepping through the newly opened passageway, she grinned to herself. "I'll trade you that coin for your ID."

Kami.no.Kurai

Kami didn't ask any questions and simply raised an eyebrow. She knew asking Zac questions is confusing for those who listen to her and Zac herself. Well, at least Zac sounds confused when answering questions, but, then again, it seemed like she always was. It can be fun confusing Zac at times, but this was not one of those times. Kami opened her hand and held it out to Zac, palm up. The coin sat in the middle, just simply glistening. It must have been out of fear, Kami thought. Zac may be able to scare inanimate objects. Kami held the box under her left arm tighter, then simply, plainly, she said, "Okay, then."

Happyzac

"Deal!" With her long, talon-like fingernails she greedily plucked the coin from Kami's hand and shoved it deep within the confines of her forboding pants' pocket. Without really knowing if Kami was ready to grab her ID, or really caring, Zac threw the ID in the air to let it start floating down to the pebble-covered ground. Once again without waiting to see if Kami was ready, she impatiently started to sprint off towards the apartments. It didn't really matter to her which one she was running to, as they were at about the same place. Zac's was on the second floor, Kami's on the first.

Kami.no.Kurai

Kami allowed the ID Card to finish its journey to the ground before she bent down to pick it up in her free hand. She walked after Zac, not really caring how far Zac got ahead. She was going to the same place as Zac, or at least she was planning to end up in the same place. Kami could see Zac getting lost on the way to her own apartment, but, then again, she could also see Zac losing her finger in an envelope. After, of course, Zac would be going around yelling and crying for someone to help get her finger out. Then a frightening thought struck Kami. What if Zac went into her aparment, her somewhat-clean, safe apartment, before she got there? Kami lengthened her strides, which, of course, even with her long legs wasn't very far. She thought that she had time to get there even if Zac did have the key. Finding the small object and actually being able to get it into the little hole without loosing interest seemed like a hard task for someone such as Zac.

Happyzac

Zac made her way to Kami's door, but nearly collapsed from exhaustion. She was nowhere near being an excellent runner. Leaning her weight onto Kami's door, she started to fish around in her pocket for the key. "Key... Oh Key.... where are you?"* Her fingers lightly brushed the shiney coin she had acquired from Kami and her own ID card that she had forgotten about previously. No key. With a defeated sigh, Zac slumped down while still leaning on the door. Her face instanteously lit up when she remembered where her key was. After digging around in her hair for a bit, she found the key tangled up in a huge not. "What? Why is it all tangled up? It works in the cartoons.... Or is that hairpins they keep in their hair?" Her fingers tried to rake the key out, but that only brought tears to her eyes from the pressure of the knot. Looks like she'd have to wait for Kami after all...

Kami.no.Kurai

Kami finally made her way to her apartment on the first floor. She twitched when she saw Zac leaning against the door, afraid that Zac's craziness might have rubbed off on it. She couldn't have her place infected, too. She shifted her doll box to the other arm then dug into her pocket with her left hand. She took out the key and same stray lint, dropped the lint, and leaned over Zac to get the key into the keyhole. A quick turn of the key and doorknob then a push, and the door was open. Now was the difficult challenge of getting past Zac...

Happyzac

Zac only noticed Kami after he door she was leaning on opened and caused her to topple over. She stood up with her fingers in her hair and gave a pleading look to her friend. "Kami, could you help me please? This really hurts..." By now Zac had completely forgotten about her doll box, but luckily it only dropped a little ways when she slumped down. The dolls inside were completely safe.

Kami.no.Kurai

Kami rolled her eyes at the stupidity of her friend, then, without a word, began to try and unwrap the hair around the key bit by bit. It didn't work very well, so she stopped, a bit embarrassed. She
opened her mouth, closed it. Open. Close. Open. Close. Finally, she just shrugged and said it, "You're going to need to bend down a bit do I can actually see what I'm doing." This height difference was really quite annoying. At least it was better than that time when Kami had to ask Zac to get something down from the top shelf for her... Now, that, that was frightening.

Happyzac

Zac bent her knees so that her leg was just a bit below Kami's. After a few seconds, she decided that the flamming sensation in her knees was not worth it and just sat her butt down, which cauesd even more pressure on her scalp. "Hurry up Kami..." She was whining like a little child, and acting like it too. With a series of huffs and sighs Zac impatiently pounded the ground with her legs. "I want to find a place for my dollies! This isn't fair!"

Kami.no.Kurai

"Be patient! And if you stop moving around it will be a lot easier!" Kami yelled as she struggled with the knotted hair. She was a bit less gentler than before, but she was also working faster, which meant that she could get Zac in and out of her room faster. She finished untangling Zac's hair, leaving the place where the key used to be a tangled mess, and stepped back. She didn't give the key back immediately but instead walked around Zac to get into her apartment. Everything looked right, so she guessed that it was right, at least for now. She set her doll box on the coffee table. She stayed close to it to guard it from any attacks that may occur while Zac was around.

Happyzac

"Ehhh! Owwwie! Stop being so rough, you know I'm sensitive..." Zac was crying and rubbing her scalp throughout the entire process. Kami could be so heartless sometimes.

After Kami had stepped over her she stood up and combed her fingers through the knotted jungled that was her hair. Her box was still bent out of shape, but overall unharmed. Zac grabbed it and cradled it in her arms as she walked into Kami's apartment. "Where's the end table that I can put them on? Everything was so neat and clean here, she wondered how in the world Kami could find everything...

Kami.no.Kurai

Not only was the apartment clean, but it was also organized, probably adding to Zac's troubles in the house. In the living room, the room that they just happened to be at the time, one could find some of life's necessities, including a couch to sleep on and a television. The television was near the middle of the left wall, across from the couch. In front of the couch was the coffee table and Kami. There was an end table on each side of the couch and next to one of the doors opposite the entrance. It was, all and all, rather plain and normal. Kami pointed to each clear end table, or in other words, all but the far end table next to the couch, which had a lamp on it. "Any of these will work. I don't spend much time in this room, so it doesn't matter to me."

Happyzac

"Heehee!" All Zac could do was giggle with delight. She chose one of the end tables and ran over to it, though to her which end table she chose didn't matter. With a light brush of her hand she dusted it off then worked at opening the doll box with the bent packaging. When her wrestling match with another inanimate object was done the two dolls were free and rested gently on the table. Zac beamed and glanced over her dolls once more. "Yep, that's perfect. I think that it's going to be great having these dolls, don't you Kami?"

Kami.no.Kurai

"If you don't break them, yes," Kami mumbled, mainly to herself, as she began to open her own treasure. She was slower and more careful than Zac at this; she did not want to mess up anything that she bought, just in case she planned to use it later. She had finally opened the top with precise care when she finally started speaking to Zac again, "Be careful with dolls, Zac. Don't do anything that may harm them. Got that? I don't want something I spent money on broken. Don't try to feed them, either. They're dolls." Kami reached her hand in and pulled the porcelain doll out. It stared at her with its cold eyes, and she stared back. She blinked, losing the contest. She then turned the doll to face Zac. Grinning, she said, "I rather like this doll's expression. What do you think?"

Happyzac

Zac gave Kami's doll a cursory glance. "Mmm-hmm, it's real nice." It wasn't until she looked at it a second time that shivers seemed to inch all the way down her spine. "It looks like it's... plotting something..." She turned her attention back over to her twins. "The boy looks so happy... but the girl looks a bit sad... I wonder why?" In an attempt to cheer the doll up, Zac reached out and stroked her solemn, pale face. "I think we should give them names."

Kami.no.Kurai

Kami carefully sat her doll back onto the table. Her expression quickly changed then, from fairly happy to annoyance. "Names? They're dolls!" Then she stopped. Yes, they were dolls, but maybe names weren't a bad idea... For one, Zac may take better care of something if she can actually give it a name. The best reason, though, is the fact that Kami could complain about them to herself and her own doll while using their correct names. It would make things a while lot easier on her. "I think I will call mine Yoru, then," she thought aloud. She took another quick look at her own creepy little doll. She pulled on its little hat a bit so she could get a better look at its eyes. She really liked those eyes. "Yes, Yoru will be his name."

Happyzac

The beautiful silver hair of her dolls reminded Zac of snow. Not that beautiful blue snow you see in her Durem home in the winter... more of the grey snow you see in the industrious Aekea. "I'm gonna name her Kori... you know, for snow. She then looked at the boy doll staring back at her with emerald green eyes. "And you'll be Tsurara, for ice." She seemed satisfied with her choice of names. "There, I'm sure Tsurara, Kori, and Yoru will be the best of friends!" A thought then crossed Zac's mind. "Yipes! I'm late for a blind date the landlord set me up on! I gotta go!" Bending down to hug her two dolls with the up most care Zac made sure to coo an extra-sweet goodbye to the both of them. "Bye Kori. Bye Tsurara." Before leaving she gave a quick wave-of-the-hand goodbye to Kami and Yoru. "Seeya later!" With that Zac left, and the strange adventure of acquiring the dolls came to a pause.

An Inactive Week - 01.16.06

Kami’s life was becoming more and more, well, Zac-filled. In other words, it was more annoying and idiotic. The little, hyper thing kept coming to her house, and she couldn’t get her to leave no matter what she did. There was absolutely no privacy for Kami; her life was all work and Zac. At least there was some time away from the crazy girl.

One of the worst nights for Kami was the first night after they brought the dolls to her house. Kami went to bed, leaving Zac to talk to her precious dolls. She had expected her to leave, to get tired and go home. She got tired, alright. Waking up to find another girl in your bed that hadn’t been there before is quite a surprise. She first thought maybe she and Zac got drunk or something, and then she hoped nothing had happened. That thought only lasted a second as Kami remembered neither of them drink, and that she had no alcohol in the house to begin with. It turned out that Zac was just too tired to go home. Her apartment was just one floor up; Zac could have made it up the stairs, but Zac didn’t get on to her…much.

The really creepy part was how Zac acted toward the dolls. It seemed that she had gotten over her fear of Yoru, as she was even talking to him. She had decided that Tsurara and Yoru were good friends, from what she could tell from Zac’s mindless babble. She was cradling them, stroking their faces, and brushing their hair; it was all too much.

As long as Zac didn’t break the dolls, especially Yoru, everything would be fine. Kami didn’t want to mess with it, at least not right now. Maybe later…when she feels like it.

Babbling - 01.20.06

Users: Happyzac (Zac) & Kami.no.Kurai (MS)
Characters: Kami, Zac, Yoru, Kori, Tsurara
Setting: Kami's Apartment
Link: Page 3, post 7 - Page 4, post 13

Happyzac
"Kori, your hair is starting to get so pretty! I mean, look at it! It's so soft and long." Zac's fingers gently combed through the doll's silver hair. The little porcelain wonder was nestled inside of the crook of her "Mommy's" arm as Zac cooed sweet words over and over to her. Tsurara was on the ground with his little OMG hat positioned in his hands. Even if she knew their value, Zac still couldn't help "playing" with them. They were so important to her. This was her daily routine now, Kami would leave for work and Zac would sneak over to take care of the dolls. Yoru was laid out right next to Tsurara and it seemed as if their little grooming sessions were over. As the cheery girl finished up with her last customer she gave a quick grin. "There, I officially declare Zac's salon closed for the day!"

Kami.no.Kurai
There was a scrape at the front door as a key slid into the keyhole, some grumbling, and then the door simply opened, revealing an annoyed and tired Kami. She took the key out and replaced it back into her pocket. She threw her black book bag to the floor before coming in. Then, she shut and locked the door. "I'm home... And it seems you're here, too...again. And you didn't lock the door...again." A few moments later Kami collapsed on the couch, still grumbling, "Work was-," she stopped for a second, to think of a phrase appropriate for Zac, "-not fun today."

Happyzac
Zac smiled at her friend. "Then why don't you quit, silly? I mean, why work at a boring place if all you’re gonna do is complain?" She then paused for a moment before continuing. "Wait... where do you work anyways Kami?" Zac did not seem to understand the fact that normal people had to work to get money so they could live a normal life with food, clothes, and shelter. She was deemed "unfit to work" by the Durem city council and therefore gets a big, hefty welfare check in the mail every month.

While Zac was babbling on, Tsurara had started to move on his own. His movements were jerky and seemed like those of a robot. He tried to open his mouth, but his doll joint were way to stiff for him to do so.

In fact, it was Kori who was able to successfully say something, but she waited until Zac set her down on the floor next to the other two. Surprised at being abandoned, the tiny doll's eyes fluttered open to show new life and her tiny voice squeaked an eerie, "Momma."

"AAAAAAAHHHHHH!" Zac was screaming and trying to climb onto the couch with Kami. "Kami! Kami! Kami! Kori just talked! She just friggin' talked to me!" If Zac started to resort to almost-cursing then it meant she was really angry or spooked, this time being the latter.

Kami.no.Kurai
Kami jumped off the couch, not because of the doll, but because of Zac. Zac and her meds are quite scary. She caught the lamp as is slowly started to fall over then moved it back to its spot. She raised an eyebrow, looked at Zac and her worried expression, and said, "Dolls don't talk." She put it bluntly, and emotionless, so that Zac would understand. Even after a week she couldn't get it through Zac's jumbled head that doll are inanimate objects that don't talk back. Kami didn't hear the stupid girl-doll talk. Then again, she wasn't paying attention, but, still, logic rules the possibility out.

Happyzac
Kori took a deep breath, which was very difficult since she had no lungs, and tried to make her Momma hear her. "MOMMA!"

Zac climbed up even further on the couch. "Dolls don't talk huh? Yeah, and I bet you want to say Foofurall isn't real either!" She then slide off when Kori called her a second time. Even though she was as scared as hell, she scooped her baby into her arms and cuddled her close. Before two long (more like five seconds) Zac was cuddling both Tsurara and Kori and baby-talking them just like before.

Kami.no.Kurai
Kami may be able to ignore the obvious, but that, that she heard. "That's-that's not normal. But it's SO COOL!" Kami yelled, becoming hyper, almost hyper as her best friend. Kami leaped over the couch, knocking the coffee table a bit to the side, and peered over Zac's shoulder. She mumbled something to herself and watched Zac cradle her babies. She glanced at Yoru, but he was still the same inanimate object as before, except with better hair, which confused Kami for a second, until she just shrugged it off.

Happyzac
"It's not cool, it's creepy!" Zac was complaining about how scary it was, yet there she was cuddling and stroking the haunted dolls. "Hey, I wonder if Yoru can talk?" She was staring down at Tsurara the entire time she was talking, crestfallen that he had not uttered a word yet.

But then, Tsurara finally moved his joints enough to get them to work somewhat correctly. "Yoru." Zac hugged her little dolls close to her as she gave them a dangerously tight hug. Her smile was that of a proud mother's. "See Kami, both my dolls can talk! And he even knows Yoru." It never occurred to Zac that Tsurara may have been mimicking her words.

Also, she hoped that her talking angels would distract Kami from giving Yoru a close inspection. During her salon during the day Zac decided that Yoru's eyes didn't match his hair well enough so she colored them over with a red marker. She knew Kami would be upset, but at least he looked so much better afterwards!

Kami.no.Kurai
"If it's so creepy, why are you hugging them? And don't break them, Zac, or I will...actually, I don't know what I'd do..." Kami trailed off as she began to mumble something to herself what was, most likely, gibberish, or possible her own language or code, but it meant something to her, at least. She put her small hand around her little doll's hips, then, slowly picked it up. She watched its motionless gaze, its still body, and its empty head, which was, she thought, probably about as empty as the drugged-up Zac's. She sat the doll back down on the end table, making sure not to damage him. She turned her attention back on the other dolls. "What...is happening with your dolls...?"

Happyzac
"Nothing much. Kori's tugging on my hair, and Tsurara is having some trouble moving. Other than that I think they're pretty normal!" The little Kori doll was tugging on her mother's hair for attention, and Tsurara was just trying to climb over to the coffee table. Of course, Zac wasn't about to let her little scamp of a doll go exploring just yet. She took him and set him down on the floor, along with Kori. "Why are they moving?"

Kami.no.Kurai
Kami resisted the urge to grit her teeth and knock Zac upside the head. The reasons being that she hated the feeling of gritting her teeth, and Zac, who was much bigger and stronger, probably wouldn't enjoy being hit, especially with her darling little dolls around. This was a rather hard urge to resist. Kami hated hearing people repeat what she says, and Zac did just that. Of course, Zac is easily confused and takes thing too literally anyways, so she should just get over the whole thing. Not like that would ever happen, though.

Kami took a seat on the couch. She watched the two dolls carefully and tried to think. Her mind was relatively blank on this matter, maybe as blank as Zac's on every matter, so she just used the only idea she had: "Kori, Tsurara, can you tell us why you can talk?"

Happyzac
Kori blinked and wobbled to stand up on two legs. "Soul... soul..." That's all she would say, over and over. She took a wavering step over towards Zac before sitting down. "Soul!"

Tsurara was sitting himself up straight. "Momma... care..." He extended his arms towards his mother and looked like a toddler wanting to be carried. He grinned and started to grab at the air. "Momma... care...ee..."

Zac's heart was about to melt. "Care-ee? You want me to carry you?" She picked up her "son" and started to snuggle against him. "Awww...." Kori started to pout and scream shouts or "Care-ee" as well.

Kami.no.Kurai
"That was... that was helpful," Kami said, a bit less sarcastic than usual so as not to hurt the impressionable little children in any major way. She watched Zac fawn over them, fawn over the things she was calling creepy a few moments before. Even though they were talking, they were still dolls... right? Well, that thought wasn't getting her anywhere, so she took another route. "I'm guessing that these things are alive, then... With 'souls,' as Kori said... But, how?"

Happyzac
Tsurara started to wave his arms frantically... it was in jerky motions... but still frantic. "Care! Momma care!"

Zac started to shake Tsurara up and down. "Is he broken? I'm already carrying him!" Poor Tsurara made a short cry at being shooken, so Zac soon stopped. "What's he mean by 'Momma care?'"

Kori stood up. "Momma cared... Momma cared... move.... talk!" The little doll was trying to explain this, but it wasn't coming out right at all! In fact, she was having extreme difficulty just moving.

Kami.no.Kurai
Kami mouthed the two dolls words a few times. She filled in the blanks with what she thought was right, and then: "Zac cared, so Kori and Tsurara started to move and talk?" If that was it, it still didn't make sense, at least not to Kami. Kami was too logical and realistic to figure out on her own. This just doesn't happen, so it must not be happening...
"Maybe this a dream." She stood, whacking her kneecap into the coffee table in front of her. Through clenched teeth, she wheezed, "Or not... Ow..." But this still didn't explain anything...

Happyzac
Zac smiled and started to cradle both dolls in her arms. "Maybe because I cared and nurtured them the souls inside of them decided to spring forth." It was surprising that such an answer would come from Zac, as she was usually a nut and made no sense whatsoever. To someone with an imagination (and a maternal streak) this answer could help fill in some gaps.

Kori fell asleep in her mother's arms. Her last words before dozing off were, "Momma nice... I wanted to come..."

Tsurara was busy trying to wiggle out of Zac's arms. He wanted to go and check out Yoru, and to see why he wasn't talking.

Kami.no.Kurai
As if being called by his friend, Yoru started to move. He wobbled on his thin legs, burbled something, then collapsed onto the top of the end table. He said something else, in a tongue he had made up all on his own, or, more accurately, just a bunch of gibberish. He sat up and reached up toward the ceiling, still muttering something in the same language. He flexed his fingers, grinned, then said, "Bah."

Kami squealed and immediately jumped to her dolls side. She didn't pick him or even touch him. She was afraid that if she did, he would return to his inactive state. She watched the creature stand and stare at her with his cold, red, eyes-wait, red? Why are they red. "Zac, is there a reason Yoru's eyes are red?"

Happyzac
Zac glanced from side to side and then lifted Kori up to hide the guilty look on her face. "No..." She was turning beat red and fidgeting in her spot on the floor. It was very easy to catch poor Zac in a lie.

Tsurara smiled and reached out for his friend. "Yoru!" He then fell down and found it quite difficult to get back up. He was having a hard time moving about, and trying to walk on a shiny, polished table did not make it easier.

Kami.no.Kurai
Yoru waved his arms frantically, calling out to Tsurara the best he could. "Bah, bah! Bah!" It seemed that either Yoru had found his favorite word, or he decided that Bah was an easier name than Tsurara. He continues to 'bah' and speak in gibberish. What he lacked in the vocal area, he made up in movement. He wasn't as stiff as the other two were when they first awakened, so he could move around with a much more natural look. When he became impatient with Tsurara, he finally took to all fours, babbling to himself, then shot forward at the other doll. He slid, then stopped when he fell over beside the boy. He muttered a complaint, but he quickly got over it as he tried to glomp his boyfriend--wait, no... friend that just happened to be a boy.

Kami raised an eyebrow, extremely confused and not really sure about what to do next. "You were right; they are friends."

Happyzac
Zac folded her arms and gave her friend a smug look. "Told ya so." It was amazing to see her little doll make friends so quickly with Yoru, and it warmed her heart. She cuddled Kori close.

Kori seemed intent to stay with Zac she did not want to make friends nor did she want any attention to be diverted from herself. With an angry, "Brother!" she summoned Tsurara's attention. When she actually received it, she wasn't quite sure about what to do.

Tsurara squirmed as he was attacked by Yoru. "Momma! Momma!" He was kicking and fussing, but making a small laughing sound at the same time. You could tell he enjoyed being near everyone and seeing everyone smile, even if he wasn't quite sure about what was going on. He looked at Kori when she called his name and hopped up and down - well, tried to. "Kori! Kori!"

Kami.no.Kurai
Yoru's expression changed from just plain confused to squished and confused as he let go of Tsurara. He did not, however, realize that if he lets go of the thing that is supporting him, that he would then have to support himself. He scrambled around on the table for a moment before he figured out what was happening. Fearing that he would be squished by the hopping boy, he twisted sideways, rolling a few inches away across the table top. He jumped to his feet, wide-eyed and confused, before he plopped back down to sit indian-style. He turned his gaze toward Kori, then, as everything finally made sense to him. He scrunched up his nose at the girl and grumbled to himself. "Bah."

Kami watched in amazement, mumbling to herself about how cool it was. "Yeah, now I'm confused."

Happyzac
Tsurara trotted over to Yoru after quickly loosing interest in his attempt to contact Kori. His movements were still stiff and jerky but somehow he managed. The tiny boy sat down in front of Yoru, mimicking his actions with just a bit more difficulty after finding out that stiffened legs do not bend well. A grin spread across his face as he started to rock back and forth. "Yoru! Yoru!" He seemed to enjoy shouting one of the few words that he knew.

Kori scrambled up out of Zac's grasp and sat down with her knees tucked under her on her Momma's shoulder. It was tempting for her to call Tsurara again, but she did not wish to be ignored. She was also considering joining the two, but after a quick deliberation that plan was right out. For now, she thought it best to just watch from afar.

The crazy Momma obviously did not hear Kami's mumbling, or otherwise she would have never let her live it down that she was confused. Instead, Zac grinned towards her friend, looking almost as happy as Tsurara was. "Kami, what're we gonna do with them now? They seem like they're gonna be such a handful..."

Kami.no.Kurai
"I'll say..."

Yoru stopped glaring at the girl to raise an eyebrow at the brother. He took to his feet, attempting to push off of Tsurara's head to help him get up. The doll grinned as he pulled his hat farther down over his face. He looked around, finally getting a better look of his surroundings. His eyes stopped at Kami, who merely stared back. He ran, but this time, he took it on two legs, and this time, he jumped, and where he jumped, there was no table top...but there was Kami, who's pants leg was easy to grab. The moment he landed, he was already climbing up her leg, her jacket, until he finally got to her shoulder, where he sat, now studying his surroundings from a higher place.

Kami blinked a few times, not really sure what she was supposed to do about that. She had not expected it. Of course, she didn't expect any of this, but she really didn't expect to have some tiny creature crawling up her. It was really disturbing. She finally got over this, turning back to Zac. "If these three came alive, what do you bet there's others? We should find them, and then we can decide what to do from there. I want to know why this is happening. There has to be a logical explanation!"

And with this Kami had decided what the two--or, rather, five--were going to do about the strange dolls. Now they had a quest, a goal, a mission, and they were going to finish it. They would seek out others, discover the secret behind the dolls, and, above all, keep Zac entertained for a while.

A Calling - 01.22.06

The little doll sat at the edge of the table, staring off at the bare wall and beyond. His slim legs hung over, dangling off to a place he had only been a few times. His travels were, more or less, always taken in the heights, usually on Kami’s boney shoulder or in Zac’s dangerous hands. He was not necessarily alone, but he was, in fact, but the only thing around to talk was the lamp, and he was pretty sure it was not going to talk back, and even if it did, it probably wouldn’t understand him; not even Kami could understand his senseless babble.

He pushed himself to his feet and swung himself around, using his arms to get more force. They were still dead. Or, at least, he thought they were. Both Kori and Tsurara lain still, using each other as pillows. This… sleep thing was real unusual. He scurried up to Tsurara, both his hands and feet sliding on the slick surface he called home. He sat in front of the sleeping boy and just simply stared at him. His red eyes wandered away from his friend when he made no sign of awaking to the sister. He scrunched up his face at his, and then he stood to his two feet. He didn’t need Tsurara to help him explore; he could go himself.

Now the little imp found himself back at the edge of the small table, and then he found himself climbing down to the couch… It wasn’t long until he was on the floor, all fours placed on the rough carpet. His face once became scrunched and twisted. The carpet definitely wasn’t nice on his hands… So he reverted to only walking on twos, however uncomfortable it might be. His whole movement and balance was off any time he tried, so now he had to slow down his pace toward the strange rectangular object on the other side of the room.

Yoru toddled away, almost falling once, to the large thing. If he remembered correctly, this is where Kami disappeared to each night so she could go to the strange lifeless state he always lost Tsurara to… Luckily, she always came back. If she didn’t, he figured Zac would have probably already done horrible something to him. Someone would need to save him, and Tsurara was too naïve and stupid, whilst Kori was just evil. Not to mention the fact that Kami talked to him in a way that actually made sense; Zac and Tsurara could prattle on, and no one seemed to be able to stop them.

So, now he would get to see where his owner and savior stayed each night. Just a simple push and the door was open. He rushed in on all fours, for the heavy thing was coming to a close, and he feared he would be shut out. It did not completely shut, though; the doorstop didn’t allow the event to occur. Yoru whacked himself in the head at his own idiocy, and then proceeded to explore.

The first order of business was to go see what Kami was doing. He ignored the annoying feeling the carpet gave his hands as he darted across the floor. Yoru started up the first thing he saw—the wooden leg of the bed—clawing into it was his sharp fingernails. In moments he was atop the bed, standing on a soft blanket. It was, much to his delight, completely black and coupled with a blood red pillow. Kami’s taste was much like his own—dark and unique, unlike that of the others. Coincidentally, Yoru also liked the way Kami tasted. He had chewed on her finger enough, and the warm, meaty taste he got was always enjoyable, even though she wouldn’t allow him to bite hard or on her left hand, for some unknown reason. She glared at him the last time he tried… He was not scared, of course, but could not win a fight with her if he tried…at least not at the moment.

Yoru finally came back to the current situation, out of the random thoughts that entered his mind. He burbled something to himself in a mixture of yelps, hisses, and chirps, and then he began toward the top of the sleeping device. Just as he had expected, Kami’s head was resting at the top, drool hanging out of her mouth and on the pillow. And, just as he expected, she was being boring, just like Tsurara. Tch, people really should stop being so rude and entertain him when he’s bored. HE was the important one, not THEM.

He hopped off the bed to the floor, landing again on all fours, forgetting about the dull Kami above. He searched the room with his eyes for anything remotely interesting that could keep him entertained until morning. The room, like the living room, was rather bland with little furniture. Behind him the bed, in front of him the door. Beside the door was a dresser, which, to him, seem to be some reddish wood. There was a desk in the corner farthest from the door, just sitting there, the cover pulled down to hide the contents within.

He first went for the desk, but when he found no opening, he left it for something else. He scanned the room once again, even the ceiling. Ah, the dreaded light-bearer… He always thought it was too bright for his eyes. This light was, however, bowl-shaped; it was nothing like he had ever seen before. This was, of course, because has not seen much, but this light-thing—he may be able to climb in it. The tallest thing he could reach was, in fact, the dresser, so he went straight for it.

Yoru used the same method he used to get on the bed; hooking into the wood with his claws and pushing off with his feet. Of course, he only made it up so far—to the first drawer, to be exact. It was cracked open, and with a push of his foot, it was open enough for him to slip inside.

There were strange, cloth-things in the drawer as he began to dig through. He threw them out of the drawer, digging his way to the bottom. The drawer was nearly empty when he noticed the space in the back. He looked up it, to who knows where. Yes, he could squeeze through that… And his climb began again. He used each cloth-filled drawer to push up to the next. The close, hot place did not bother him much; even if he preferred the cold, heat was no problem. His ascent ended with a loud crack in the head. He moaned as he clambered into the top drawer. He lay on his back until the pain went away. During this time, he heard a rustling from outside the dresser, but he was in too much pain to go and check it out.

The throbbing pain was reduced to a slight sting, so Yoru continued his journey. He swam through the river of clothes toward the other side, where he quietly pushed the drawer open, using the clothing and top of the dresser to hold. Now, finally, he was free to roam outside with the heights once again. He scrambled out to the poorly lit room. No, wait… Now there was NO light. The door had been closed, and Kami was now facing another direction… The idiot had shut Yoru in.

Yoru stuck his tongue out at the sleeping figure, and then he sat down to think. It really wasn’t that hard—he just had to turn that silly looking thing sticking of the rectangular…thing. Yeah, he just had to turn the thing on the thing! He could do that…

Yoru took to his two feet, feeling triumphant already, and marched toward the door. He reached out toward the thing on the thing, leaning over the side as far as he could without tumbling over to more pain. Yes, he could almost reach it… If he just jumped...

And that’s all it took. One thought, taking no time to think it over, and Yoru is hanging from the doorknob on the open door. Yeah, not such a smart idea… Now he had to get down. So he simply let go… once again landed on his two feet. He was getting better at this two-legged-funny-feeling-thingamajig!

Arms spread, a smile spread across his perfect imp face, he walked through the door. Then he began to run on two feet—something that he couldn’t do well before. This rush, this excitement, and this happiness all come from using two feet? Maybe Zac was rubbing off on him, the crazy chick. In moments Yoru was strolling across the couch toward the end table…but then he stopped. Something was not right. Where were his friends? They really left him alone…

Yoru was so caught up in his on thoughts that the sudden sharp, whining pain nearly caused him to fall from the couch. He grabbed the couch in time, and then pulled himself back up. He covered his ears, moaning and complaining in his own made-up language. But then it suddenly stopped…another sound entered his pained ears:

“Hey, Kami? It’s Zac… Pick up the phone if you’re there! You won’t believe what I have to tell you…”

Conducting Mischief - 01.31.06

It always starts off with an idea. Or lack of common sense. Or both. This is where the trouble begins. Yoru is only a doll—a bored doll. Dolls are there to entertain the humans, but in return, the humans must entertain the dolls.

Everyday Kami leaves this doll alone and bored. This is where the idea comes in: he could sneak into the bag Kami takes to work each day. The only problem with this idea is this: Kami is too busy working to entertain Yoru. Now we have the ingredients for a beginning—and they are rather good ingredients, too.

---

Yoru sat on the table as his owner spoke—rather quickly—to the air. In actuality, she was speaking to him, but Yoru had lost interest thirty minutes ago and had begun to play with the lamp pull-switch. It was when Kami finally gave up and walked out that Yoru had a change to act out the plan he had thought up—the one which lacked common sense, of course.

Yoru sprung to the arm of the couch. He started downward, then, his nails holding tightly on the rough fabric. He dropped to the ground and—still running on four legs—made his way to the black gym back. Luckily for him, the bag was open; he would never have figured out how to work a zipper. In a few seconds, Yoru was in. Now all he had to wait…

---

Kami returned moments later to find her little doll missing. Yoru’s luck had not left him yet. If Kami had been a normal parent, she may have been frightened when her young child disappeared, but Kami was not a normal parent, and she did not care. She picked up her bag, zipped it, and then was out the door.

Yoru dug—or maybe it could have been described as swum—through the strange contents of the bag. He had yet to learn the names of many objects, and had yet to find something in the bag he knew. More entertainment for him, then.

He chose an object. It was an odd rectangular prism, white in color, with grey buttons and a screen on the front. He first began to chew on the rubber buttons, but he ended up spitting out the disgusting things. Now he tried a different approach: he pressed the buttons.

Yoru found himself on the other side, hiding behind a yellow cloth. The thing inside his chest was pounding, and the strange things on each side of his head hurt. He covered the latter in an attempt to muffle the loud, high-pitch beeps. And then he saw the light.

And then he saw Kami’s hand, and he saw her lift the annoying object of the bag. In a few moments Yoru could uncover his ears without pain, and the light went out as the bag zipped shut. Now Yoru knew what not to mess with.

But there were a lot of things to mess with in this bag. First was the rag in front of him. It had a strange smell, and he hastily made his way away from it. It was, he decided, painful to the smelling thing on his face. Instead he started to mess with a round object. He took of the lid, and he was hit with smell from the rag. This smell, however, was stronger. He dug himself away, to the bottom of the strange bag. It seems his good luck had been replaced by bad.

The movement of the bag was slightly sickening, he decided, and he was much happier when it stopped. The things on the side of his head were picking up some strange noises now. There was a screeching sound coming from the front. Directly around him was a lower pitch of a similar sound. Behind him it was deeper, and somewhere off to his right was a bit higher. The noise was a jumble of many notes and noises, although it was not necessarily unpleasant.

Yoru did, however, find the man who quieted the noise annoying. He was obviously the leader of the noises, and spoke rudely to his followers. There was a groan from the person above—Kami—and then the noises came again. This time, however, they came together under one sound, then two. In the end, there were five sections playing five different things.

Yoru curled into a ball. He did not wish to block out the sounds, as he found them extremely nice. It just made him want to sleep… Sleep… Sleep…

Yoru nearly jumped as the second piece began. It was fast, loud, and then slow and soft. There were major contrasts within the noise from each section. Yoru, however, was not appalled but this, but rather enthralled.

And then Mr. Leader-Man began to talk once again. The grating, vulgar voice made the little doll twist and turn. He made his way to the top of the bag, stuck his hand in an opening, and pushed. He was out of the bag now. He rolled to the ground, sneaking his way between human legs, chair legs, and wood. He stopped at the foot he wanted; he looked up at the annoying man. He grinned just thinking about what he was about to do.

The leader-man stopped in mid-sentence to yell and jump around on one leg, cursing and knocking papers off of the object in front of him. Yoru hid back in the bag as the people around began to laugh at the crazy man, jumping around and claiming something bit him on the right leg.

---

Yoru slept through the last bit of noise, only to be woken up by his owner on the way back. She found him. Yoru gulped and pulled his hat over his face in an attempt to hide. Kami was not a nice person when angry.

“So you’re the one to blame for everything… I see now,” Kami said cheerfully. Yoru lifted the hat up a bit. “And you bit him… He deserved it, really. If I wasn’t making money from this, I woulda quit long ago…”

Yoru meeped as Kami removed him from the black gym bag. She held him in her harms like a child holds her doll. Kami was not a child, but Yoru was a doll. “Just…don’t do it again. I think… I shall be leaving you at Zac’s when I’m at work for now on.”

Now Yoru has no way to ever be bored while Kami’s at work. Each day he must wait at Zac’s house, playing with Tsurara and glaring at Kori, until he can see his master again.

"I hope you'll like it..." Zac felt like every second took a million years as she shoved the small wrapped package under Kami's door. It was a rectangle shape, and it had a rather large tag taped right to the front. It read:

Dear Kami,

This is a present for my bestest nephew ever. I know he's not grown yet, and I know we don't know if he'll grow like Tsurara and Kori did, but I bought this for him. I hope he likes it and learns to use it well.

Love,
The Bestest Auntie Zac Ever!

Can I Keep Him? - 02.09.06

Users: Happyzac (Zac) & Kami.no.Kurai (MS)
Characters: Kami, Zac, Yoru, Kori, Tsurara, Tristan
Setting: Zac's Apartment
Link: Page 4, post 14 - Page 3, post 10

Happyzac
"This way!" Zac held the cardboard box filled with nik-nacks in her hands as she climbed up the stone stairway to her apartment room. Strangely enough, the items in the box did not belong to her or her new guest that was following her. These things were just random items that she found on the side of the road, and she promptly decided that they belonged to her new housemate.

The new housemate in question, was tagging along right behind her. He was a young looking man, maybe one year older than Zac. He looked of a different nationality, which he was. This man was Tristan Halifax, a strange refugee from France that just happened to be found by Zac.

Kami.no.Kurai
Kami cautiously opened her front door. She knew Zac well enough to know that you have to expect everything with her; it could be dangerous not to. For all Kami knew, Zac was hauling nuclear weapons into her room to play with. She could probably do it if she felt like it. Luckily, this was not the case. Kami stepped all the way out, Yoru laying lazily across her left shoulder, and started toward her idiotic friend and her guest.

"Hey, who's that, Zac?" Kami didn't ask for an answer; she demanded it. "And what's all that stuff? You're not letting a guy into your house without supervision, are you? Someone could easily take advantage of you... And what about the kids?" She stopped suddenly in her rant. She could complain more if she really wanted to, but she thought that she had already complained enough already. She shouldn't overload Zac with too many questions, anyways.

Happyzac
Zac smiled. "It's okay. His name is... uh..."

"Tristan." The man answered for his new friend. It could be a bit difficult to understand his words, though, as he had a heavy French accent.

"Yeah! I found him just lying in the street so I invited him to stay here... Well, actually I made him come with me. He's really nice, but I can't understand anything he says." The crazy woman smiled at her best friend. Duh, this was all so simple to understand.

"Bonjour. La matresse Zac m'a offert un endroit pour rester et c'est pourquoi je suis ici. (Hello. Mistress Zac offered has me place to stay and this is why I'm here.)" Tristan smiled at Kami. She seemed safe... or at least safer than Zac.

Kami.no.Kurai
For once there was someone who Kami understood even less than Zac. At least what she did understand made sense, even if it was so little. She understood enough, though. "Congratulations, Tristan. You get to stay with some crazy idiot who goes by the name of Zac. Don't get lost in her room; I don't know how she doesn't get lost herself. Unless she decided to clean up for once." Kami's was both monotone and sarcastic; there may have been a bit of worry in it, too. It wasn't for Tristan, and it wasn't for Zac; now Kami had someone else around, and she was going to have to deal with him.

Yoru blinked once, but other than that he was still. Kami hold told him many times that only certain people could see him move and talk, and even if he didn't know why, he might as well listen for now. Without moving his head, his eyes swiveled toward the door. Tsurara should be in there... And so should Kori. Blech.

Happyzac
"Momma!" The little boy ran down the stony steps as fast as he could, but unfortunately that was not very fast at all. Kori had been playing doctor and wrapped bandages all over little Tsurara's legs.

"Honey!" Zac dropped the cardboard box, which the contents of fell out and hit Tristan in the head, and hugged her little boy tight. She then turned to Kami and started to prattle on again, "Tristan's really nice... from what I can tell. He never sounds mean, at least."

Tsurara looked up at the strange man. He must have been one of his Momma's friends, so that meant he was okay. "Hi, Mister!"

"Bonjour. (Hello.)" The foreigner looked over the tiny boy. He could swear that Zac talked about children on the way to the apartment, but he wasn't all that sure. His understanding of the English language was limited at best.

Kami.no.Kurai
Kami took her little doll from her own shoulder. She hesitated, but then she decided she would still be hurt even from this far away, so she might as well go closer to Zac, anyways. "Tsurara, want to take Yoru?" She first held the doll out to him awkwardly, but then she gave up and just stood Yoru up on her hand for Tsurara to take. She did make sure to use her other hand to hold him up, of course. Yoru just had to wobble a bit to remind her.

Kami went on again, this time turning her attention to oldest male present. "These kids probably aren't evil, so you should be okay. They seem nice enough, anyways. Unless they're actually plotting something evil and I don't know about it, but I really doubt Tsurara here could think up anything evil--or intelligent, for that matter." She spoke as if she expected Tristan to understand every word of it, though, she knew he would not. Even if he didn't understood a thing she just said, she wouldn't really care; if he's agreeing to move in with Zac, he's an idiot anyways.

Happyzac
Tristan looked over to Tsurara and tried to speak the one English phrase he knew. "No... speak... English." His grammar sucked and he had a very thick accent.

Tsurara smiled at the man. He knew just what to say, as daytime television had taught him everything he needed to know about different languages. "Hola!"

"That's the wrong language, sweetie." Zac then frowned when her brain had processed what Kami said. "They're not evil! They're my little angels!" She hugged Tsurara close as if to prove her point. Somehow, the meaning of sarcasm always escaped her tiny mind.

Kami.no.Kurai
"Sure, we'll go with that." Kami raised an eyebrow at this affection thing going on. Why would she hug Yoru like that? It confused her... Kami only hugged one person, and even then, things didn't turn out too well... She really had to remember not to keep doing that... Maybe it's Zac's fault that Yoru actually clings to Tsurara. Kami really hoped he would grow out of that.

Speaking of Yoru, the little boy was still wobbling even with Kami's help... It must be this two-legs thing again. Four was so much better than two, really. Just as Tsurara was so much better than Kami. He would much prefer being held by him, just because. Kami was just the person that was there and did stuff for him when she found it appropriate. Tsurara was the one that was there to actually play and talk.

Happyzac
Tsurara ignored his mother and the man when he remembered Yoru was around. He stood up on his tiptoes (which is funny as how Kami is short) to gently take his little friend from Kami's hand. "Yoru!" He snuggled him close to his face and beamed.

Kami.no.Kurai
Yoru's arm flapped around a bit at the sudden snuggling, but then he quickly remembered to be still and did so. He made sure to blink first, of course.

Kami folded her arms across her chest and grinned back at the happiness of the boy. He was easy to please... "Okay, now go take Yoru back inside and play... Okay? Zac and I need to talk somewhere in private. So Tristan needs to go somewhere too..."

Happyzac
Tsurara nodded at Kami, while still snuggling Yoru, "'Kay, Auntie Kami!" He grabbed Tristan's hand and led him up the stairs. "Come on, I'll show you how Yoru can talk, its really neat!!!"

Zac beamed at Kami and latched onto her leg. "Kami!!!" She was squeeling with delight. "So, what do we need to talk about? Is it about Tristan? Can I keep him? Please? Pretty please? I promise to feed him, and groom him, and take him for walks!"

Kami.no.Kurai
Kami watched all the guys go, leaving her to fend for herself with the dreaded Zac. "Zac, I'm afraid you are thinking of a dog. At least, I hope so. Tristan should be able to feed and groom himself. He can bathe himself, too, I hope. You can allow him to stay, I guess. Just don't lose him." She thought for second about what she was going to say next. She had to make sure Zac could understand this. "I guess we need to tell Tristan what Tsurara, Yoru, and Kori really are? I guess we should go do that now, before Tsurara does something... I wonder what Tristan will think about them..."

Happyzac
Zac sunk down to the ground. "I... uh... kinda already told him..." She then perked up and clinged to Kami's leg even tighter. "Buuut, I'm not sure if he understood it all!" She felt happy just sitting right here. Lately she hadn't got to spend time with her best friend, so this was perfect.

Kami.no.Kurai
"I guess we should go explain it again, then..." Kami looked upward at the door... Oh the horrors that lay behind it... "You go in first. And I can't go anywhere if your on my leg!" Kami tried to shake herself free of her friend and step backwards. Why was she on her leg anyways? Confusion.

Happyzac
Zac hesitantly let go and crawled up the stairs like a dog. "This way!" She pushed her way into her apartment. There were food wrappers and children's toys scattered all over the floor. The tv was set to the "Dora the Explorer" show (that explains how Tsurara knew some Spanish) and was turned up to full blast. Tsurara was sitting on the couch babbling to Tristan while holding Yoru, and Kori was no where to be seen.

Kami.no.Kurai
Kami followed, each step becoming slower and more hesitant. Kami took a quick look into the room, to make sure it was safe. "Hey, you cleaned up..." Kami back in, standing tall (or as tall she could, anyways), back to her confident self. She immediately went toward the couch where the others were and looked down at Yoru. Good, he was still, well, still. "The TV's too loud..."

Happyzac
Tristan took Yoru from Tsurara and examined him, "Comment l'avez-vous incit faire cela? Est-ce magie? (How did you make him do that? Is it magic?)" Obviously he was talking of Yoru talking. Tsurara had told him all about it and now he wanted to see it for himself.

Zac curled up on the couch next to her three "guys." "Yay! My three favorite guys in the universe!" This was quite a strange thing for her to say, as she had just met Tristan and Yoru barely even acknowledged her.

Kami.no.Kurai
Kami pinched the bridge of her nose, whether it was from the loud, annoying, SCARY noises coming from that frightening television show or if it was just her reaction to Zac, it was hard to tell. It was probably both. Yep. She allowed her hands to drop lazily to her sides. "Yoru, go ahead..."

The small doll did not move at once, as if deciding for himself if it was wise. He really didn't enjoy being held by someone other than Tsurara, but he really couldn't do anything about it...right now. Might as well get it over with, right? "Bah...?"

Happyzac
Tristan jumped a bit in his seat. Why, the young boy was correct, the doll can talk! He lifted it up to examine him closer. "Bien, quelle poupe mignonne vous tes. (Well, what a cute doll you are.)"

Zac smiled and leaned back on her very cheap (and torn up) futon. "I remember how cute Kori and Tusrara were as dolls. It scared the crap outta me when I woke up to see two children smiling at me."

The young boy in the OMG crawled into his mother's lap and carefully took Yoru from Tristan's grasp (which the French man did not seem to mind). "Yoru, how come you only say 'bah'?" He cuddled his friend close to him, deciding that now was a good time for a nap.

Kami.no.Kurai
Yoru burbled something to Tsurara, saying 'bah' a few times of course. It was most likely some drawn out explanation, but the best summary was, in fact "because."

Kami scratched her head. She took a seat on the ground (after scooting anything on the ground near her away with her foot). She sat indian-style and stared up at the strange man sitting in Zac's living room. He was quite interesting, actually. "You don't seem to be freaked out... Good... I don't know what we would have had to do if you were." This meant she couldn't push him out a window... Oh well.

Happyzac
Zac shot up from her laid back position and glared at Kami defensively, something she never does. "He's my guest, and no one's going to throw him out any window!" When all this was over, someone really needed to teach Zac the meaning of the word, "sarcasm."

Tristan felt lost in this conversation. He had no real way of communicating with either of these women.

Poor Tsurara was promptly awoken with the sudden rumbling of his napping place. He grabbed Yoru and slinked away, trying to find somewhere else to play. Momma's bedroom, perfect! He dashed off down the hallway and climbed up onto his mother's bed. Kori was still asleep, and she was hugging her AFK close to her chest, much like a teddy bear. "We can stay here, Yoru."

Kami.no.Kurai
"You're right; that'd make too big of a mess, wouldn't it?" Kami said, this time throwing so much sarcasm into her voice and grinning so wildly that one may think that the straight jacket belonged on her, not her best friend. This moment of insanity quickly desolved, living the same proud, small Kami in its place. "Now what do we do about this man? You can't just find a comfy corner for him to sleep in..."

Yoru squirmed his way out of Tsurara's grasp, ending up on all fours on the bouncy bed. He scurried across, hands and feet scratching at the bedsheets, up to wear Kori's head lain. He scrunched up his face, thinking up stinking his tongue out, but he saw no point to the action, so he didn't. And what was this weird gust-thing coming from that horrid mouth of hers? The evil child didn't do that before. Yoru bounced backwards, landing in a sitting position. He looked up at his friend and grinned. "Bah!" He definately made up for Kori.

Happyzac
"I always figured he's sleep with me, Kori, and Tsurara. It's a big bed..." Zac gave Kami a strange look as she contorted her face. Wasn't it obvious from the start where he would sleep. In the bed, duh!

Tristan gave Zac a wary look, and the glanced over to Kami, "Est-ce que je serai sr ici? (Will I be safe here?)" He already knew that she wouldn't be able to understand him, but he still felt it better to ask. Who knew what could happen in this complex full of crazy people and talking dolls?

Kori's eyes shot open as Yoru was done staring at her. That little freak! What was he doing here? She shot up and started to reach out for Yoru, though her methods of doll care were less than cautious. "Get outta here you stupid doll!"

"HEY! Leave him alone, Kori." Tsurara picked Yoru up and placed him on his shoulder before anything bad could happen. As long as he was around, no one would hurt Yoru... though he didn't want anything to happen to Kori, either... Actually, he didn't want anyone hurt... The young boy's mind started spinning as he confused himself with these many different ideals.

Kami.no.Kurai
Kami raised an eyebrow at the foreigner, but quickly turned to Zac to explain the error in her planning... Well, try to, at least. "Well, you see, he's a guy, so... er..." Okay, that's it. Grown-up talk wasn't going to work on the mind of child, especially on one so fried on drugs. "Tristan needs some privacy, don't you think? He is from somewhere else, and things are different there, and some of those things might not be things you want to rub off on the children... Don't you have another bedroom...somewhere in this house?" Kami glanced around the house for a second, but her eyes quickly found themselves back to a familiar and hopefully safer object--Zac.

Yoru folded his arms and glared down at the demon below him. The pink, horrible creature was always giving him trouble. But now he was safe on his perch. He grinned and relaxed, allowing himself to lay against the boy's confused head. He didn't fully rely on the head to hold him up, of course. Yoru's head would have to be as empty as Tsurara's or as mashed as Zac's for him to actually put all his faith in the boy.

Happyzac
"I think there's a room next to mine... but Foofural is using it right now. I can't just evict him outta his home," she whimpered. If Zac had a tail and ears right now, she'd look just like a beaten puppy. It should be expected that somone like Zac would keep their imaginary friends alive since childhood.

Tristan, who was still sitting on the same ragged couch as Zac, put a comforting arm around his "friend's" shoulder. She looked so sad at the moment, but he really didn't know why. "Qui est ceci... Foofural? (Who is this... Foofural?)" His voice held a questioning tone, so maybe mixed with the word Foofural someone would pick up what he was saying.

Kori shot and evil glare right back at the damn fairy-boy above her. Her upper lip curled as she let out a ghastly snarl. Within two seconds she was up and out of the bed, but now she was completely a change in character. The young girl was latched onto her brother's shirt, refusing to let go. "Tusrara, you mean to tell me that you like him more than me...?" Her question was meek and scared.

"Kori, he's my friend, and your my twin..." Before continuing on with his explanation the silver-haired boy beamed and straightened up with a grin on his face. "Hey, that ryhmed!" He made sure to give Yoru a supportive hand the entire time just incase.

Kami.no.Kurai
Kami repeated Tristan's question back to herself, moving her lips slightly. Well, she understand part of that question, and there was only one question that someone would ask about Foofural. "Only Zac can see him, I think. You wouldn't have to wory about him, Tristan. He's just...something. But-" Kami shot a glance toward Zac, "-I think he could share a room with Tristan. Foofural would still get the bed, of course."

Yoru's expression didn't change when the sudden "nice" Kori appeared. The "nice" Kori only came out for her brother, it seemed, and it was quite normal when Yoru was around. It was Tsurara's answer that really got to him, though. Yoru shifted his weight on Tsurara's shoulder before cocking his tiny head to the side. Tsurara really was entertained easily. If Yoru could talk, the words 'you,' 'really,' 'are,' 'an,' 'idiot,' 'aren't,' and 'you' would quickly be said by the little right now. So he tried to say it. "Bah." Close enough.

Happyzac
Tristan appeared to have gotten the gist of what Kami had said, since he gave an understanding nod and then looked hesitantly towards the hallway, but eventually shook it off with a carefree grin. This place was strange, but he knew that this was going to be his wonderful, new home.

Zac nodded at Kami and hopped off the couch. "You're a genious!" She threw her arms around her friend's neck and then proceeded to crush her in one of her famous bear hugs. "Tsurara... Kori... Come help us clean out the spare room," the mom shouted as she removed her grip of death from her friend's neck. Cleaning the room would take all the help they could get... but it was worth it for her newest family member.

"O-KAY!" Tsurara grinned at Yoru and plucked him off his shoulder so that he could cradle his friend in his arms. Time to go! He dashed off the hallway, ignoring his sister and her grip on his pants. She'd let go as he decided to leave, she always did before.

...He was right. Kori's grip on her brother was slowly released as she saw him cradle Yoru. When the two ran down the hall to help her mom, she made a stunning realization... She needed to get rid of Yoru... fast.

A Silent Brat - 05.31.06

Over the last few days, after work, Kami had been attempting to teach Yoru to speak. So far, she was failing. Miserably.

Yoru would only say two things, and only one of those would he actually bother to say to Kami, sometimes…when he felt like it. Unfortunately, neither of the two syllables he spoke were a word, although they both had their meanings.

Tsu—the first syllable of Tsurara. This was only used toward Tsurara, and he would only use it when he tried to get his young friend’s attention, which is sometimes difficult with such a dull-minded child, Kami thought.

Bah—a syllable which meant, to Yoru, literally everything. He yelled it to everyone and at everything. Kami could rarely figure out what he meant when he shouted out the poor syllable. Sometimes he was calling to her; sometimes he was demanding food. Bah could also mean Tsurara, too.

“Just say Kami, Yoru,” she pleaded with him for the fifth time this lesson. “It really isn’t that hard.” She said word to him slowly, exaggerating the mouth movements as best she could. He just watched her angrily. Kami felt he saw her as the idiot wasting his time. Kami was used to being the one looking at Zac that way, and she found she did not like this side of it.

“If you won’t say my name, then say Tsurara. All you need is the ‘ra’, Yoru.”
Yoru scrunched his nose at his owner, noticing the irritation in her voice, which in turn, annoyed him.

“Zac, then, maybe?” He just answered with the same, infuriating stare. “I give up, Yoru. You can teach yourself, you little brat!” Kami stood from the couch, banging her hands on the coffee table where Yoru sat before turning to leave.

Yoru stood, snarling at his master angrily. He folded his arms across his tiny chest, imitating an angry Kami. “No.”

“Well, that’s a start.”

Little Dog on the Prairie - 06.01.06

Users: Flamefire123 (Flame), Happyzac (Zac), & Kami.no.Kurai (MS)
Characters: Calendra, Leonard, Paven, Zac, Tsurara, Kori, Kami, Yoru
Setting: Local park
Link: Page 1, post 1 - Page 2, post 4

Kami.no.Kurai
It was midday by the time Kami was able to get of the apartment. The first thing did when she was out the door was look up the stairway, just like everyday, but this was one of the rare times when she wanted to see Zac and her children. Today Kami wished to find others in her position—others with Bellus Pupa dolls. She could not convince or trick Zac into staying home, so the little druggie would be joining her today.

She carried most of the information she received from the cheerful Aki in her bag, packed and crunched in with her work things and items she thought lost but were really under her nose the whole time. She did not plan to use the information today, though; she could not overload Zac with more than one new, sane person. Kami had already taken care of calling the one person—using the information from Aki—and they had decided to meet at the local park. The person was to bring her doll, of course.

She carried another bag today as well. In the black bag was her little Yoru, who would quietly watch the cracks in the sidewalk as Kami walked on and over them. He, unlike his friend Tsurara and rival Kori, acted like a doll, and because of this, Kami had no problem taking him out in public, as long as he behaved. Today, however, he was to be the proof about the dolls of Bellus Pupa. This was her first try, and she needed all the help she could get.

Happyzac
“Kami~! KAMI!” The inept mother ran down the stony steps of the apartment, hoping to catch her friend before she left. Zac had apparently forgotten that Kami had asked her to come along. Her bright purple blazer looked as if it could blind anyone without sunglasses, and her short hair remained in a tangled, knotted mess. No one had taught Zac the proper etiquette of looking presentable when meeting someone new.

Tsurara was keeping close to his mother with the same goofy grin plastered on his face. He acted so much like his mother--when she was happy--that it seemed criminal that the two were not blood related. Then again... it would be criminal for someone like Zac to spawn others like herself into the world.

"Hiya, Auntie Kami! Where's Yoru? Can I see him? Can he and I play on the swings together!" The boy talked so fast that his cheeks were starting to flush from lack of air.

Kori was observing the freak show from the top of the stairs. At first she was hesitant about going, but the mere mention of Yoru and Tsurara spending time together had her down the stairs and clutching her brother's arm in no time. "I'm coming, too."

Kami.no.Kurai
Kami glanced at Zac, but she quickly diverted her eyes when she saw how she looked. All she had to do is pretend like she didn’t know her… Sure, it was just a stranger hanging off her arm and calling her name. Sure.

On the other hand there were Zac’s children. She smiled at Tsurara, ignoring the pest named Kori. Who couldn’t grin at the sight of the happy, energetic boy? She removed the smaller of her two bags and bent down to see face-to-face with the child (of course, Kami did not have to bend down very far to do this). “Here he is. I’m guessing you want to carry him, right?” She held the black back out toward him.

Yoru, upon seeing his friend, hastily began climbing out of his safe bag. He was about to jump to Tsurara, to cling to his shirt and crawl to his shoulder, but the sight of Kori stopped him. What if she decided to pull Tsurara back, causing him to go crashing down toward the hard concrete floor? Nose crumpled, Yoru settled back into the bag. “Bah.”

Happyzac
The boy with the OMG hat gingerly took the bag (but not before shaking Kori off of his arm). He peeked inside, much like a child would during Christmas, and gave a joyous smile upon seeing his best friend. "Yoru! Guess what? We're gonna go to the park! Momma said she might buy us a snowcone. We'd have to share..."

"No you won't. I'll give mine to Yoru and we can share." The female stepped closer to her twin, glaring at the talking doll. "Besides Yoru's a doll. He can't play at the park... what if people saw him?"

Zac took her arm and linked it with Kami's. "Kori, we're gonna go see someone else with a talkie dollie too!" The druggie looked at her friend with big, hopeful eyes. "Let's go... NOW!" Her statement turned to the whine of an impatient child.

Kami.no.Kurai
Yoru ignored Kori, attempting for forget every word she said and only focusing on Tsurara—his Tsurara, not Kori’s. He jumped in the bag, making a grab for Tsurara’s hand. He attempted to cling on and give him a hug in greeting, and his hand was the easiest thing for the wee doll to grab in his current position. “Tsu!”

Kami waved a hand at Zac, motioning for her to calm down. “Okay, we can go… We can go… Wait, you have your key, right, Zac? No, it doesn’t matter… I have a key to your apartment. Yeah, we can go now.” Kami smiled at Zac—although not as wide as she did at the adorable Tsurara—after she finished thinking aloud. She was hoping the smile would calm her friend for at least a little while.

Kami attempted to take Zac’s hand (young children can’t be left to wander alone) and lead them out of the apartment complex. She knew the real children would follow; Tsurara would never let them get separated from Zac and Kami. Even if Kori held him back, Zac would notice their absence with her special “mommy senses.”

Happyzac
Zac laced her fingers with her friend and started to drag--physically drag--Kami towards the park. Tsurara took Yoru and helped him up to his shoulder, grinning at the tiny doll. He started to follow his mother, and Kori followed along in the strange parade.

Kami.no.Kurai
Her hand still in Zac’s, Kami and the crazy group finally found their selves at the park. Kami quickly dove into her mind in an attempt to remember the meeting place. Go to the bench on the north side of the park, near the fountain. She was not positive she remembered correctly, but she was pretty sure she was right…

When they finally reached the place, Kami attempted to separate herself from her friend. Her arm now slightly ached from the first tug, and her hand now sweaty, she wished to walk by herself. Not only that, if the person was already there, she did not want to be seen holding hands with Zac. Kami did not know what to expect of the other, but she was sure her fellow doll owner would recognize their group from the description she gave over the phone: “one short woman, a crazy woman, the twins, and a doll.”

Flamefire123
"The twins and a doll?" Leo repeated as he stood protectivly near the small duel eyed girl that he loved so dearly. He cared alot for his family, his second oldest sister though he shared a bond with. They almost raised Ari like they were her parents. He felt a great need to protect his shy easily bruised sister.

"Yeah I don't get it ethir, but the voice siad it had to do with the shop, so I thought we could at least just go. You're here, so you know nothing bad will happen" Cal said with a shrug, shifting again. "What can go wrong?"

"More then you can know Cal, you are too obident" Leo mentioned, slinging an arm over her shoulder and glanced down to that damn cocky doll that grined lifelessly up at him. He roll his eyes and blinked suddenly.

He could of sworn the doll just blinked...

Happyzac
“Hey!” Zac’s ‘special sense’ caused her to whip around and stare at the girl holding the doll. Slowly, sneakily a grin started to dance across her face. The woman looked at her children; she started to leave because they both seemed to occupy themselves. Tsurara was peeking in at Yoru babbling about something or other and Kori was busy glaring at the two—yep, both were occupied.

“My name’s Zac.” Her radioactive blazer seemed as bright as her greeting. She extended her hand (even though she was not fully to Cal’s location) for the fellow doll owner to take. “So, you have a doll, too? That’s so neat! Did you get it from Bellus Pupa!?”

Kami.no.Kurai
Kami wiped her now-free hand on her jeans, mumbling something about the ‘troublesome Zac’ under her breath. She straightened herself up (in an attempt to look taller), and went after her friend. As soon as she saw what Zac was doing an apologetic smile appeared on her face.

“I’m sorry she bothered you. She’s a bit hyper,” Kami said, like a mother apologizing for her child. “But… Er… Did you get the doll from Bellus Pupa

Yoru had been listening and attempting to understand the gibberish coming from Tsurara’s mouth. He was, however, failing to do either, especially under Kori’s dreadful stare. Then, to his horror, Zac and Kami walked away to go talk to other giants about a doll, leaving him alone with the twins. He was alone with Kori with only Tsurara for protection, and the doll was not sure he could entrust his safety with such a boy. He began to gabble back at Tsurara, pointing toward their parents in attempt to make him follow.

Flamefire123
Cal turned to her brother, and opened her mouth. To protest the not so nice comment or just tell him to relax when suddenly they were aproched by a not right looking women. She took a step back just as naturally as Leo took a step forward. They knew their roles. She was the procted, he was the protector.

She was about to just shake her head and run when a much nicer looking woman walked up and apologized for the first one. Cal opened her mouth again but one hand on her shoulder had her shut it again.

"who's asking?" Leo demanded, his chin rising. The line was well used but it was clear that he meant it. No one was answering anything till he knew who these women were. He moved slightly in front of Cal, just so he could protect her while not cutting her off from the conversation. Not that she would ever say anything.

Kami.no.Kurai
The small woman was tempted to take a step back from Leo, but as proud as Kami was, she was not going let her instincts get the better of her. Kami continued to force herself to smile as she answered him, “I’m Kami Ujimushi. This is my friend Zac, who will be quiet until I give her permission to speak again,” she shot a quick glare at her friend, “She’s crazy, really. The doctors said so.” She paused for a second to think of something else to say. “Actually, we were looking for someone who bought a doll from Bellus Pupa, which is why I think she got so excited when she saw someone with a doll… Then again, maybe she’s just hyper today.”

Flamefire123
"Oh, are you the woman that called me?" Cal asked, her hand moving up o touch Leo's arm lighly. The way one pet a dog when they weren't completely sure if the dog is just being territoryal or smart. Which was exactly what Cal was feeling. She didn't trust that odd women. The sane woman, Kami something, said that she was really crazy. Cal didn't deal well with really odd people like that.

Cal glanced down a Paven and pulled him more into veiw. "Actually, i did get this doll there. The women that sold him to me said his name was Paven. I thought my litle sister would like it for her birthday. It's in a few months"

Kami.no.Kurai
“Oh. Well. Um.” A moment of stunned almost-silence. Kami had not expected to find the person she had called so quickly, if at all. If the person had not shown as Kami expected, today would have just been a day for the kids to play in the park. Now, however, Kami had to actually explain her suspicions about Bellus Pupa. It would have been nice to have a plan. “I guess I am the person who called you. Please excuse me for a moment.”

Kami gave slight bow to Leo and Cal, and then she gave a glare at Zac. Hopefully she would not speak or move when she left her side. She turned toward the two kids and doll, hurriedly walking toward them and away from Zac. “I need to see Yoru for a second,” she whispered in the young Tsurara’s ear before snatching the doll.

Yoru waved his arms and legs around as Kami carried him back toward Leo and Cal. If one was close enough, one may even have heard soft shouts of “no.” She was taking him away from Kori, yes, but it also meant he was away from Tsurara, too.

Kami snapped a muffled command at Yoru, who, slightly afraid, shut up and stopped flailing about. Kami held up her now pouting doll, arms folded across his chest and grumbling. “Yeah, I had no plan here… But Paven may start to do this.”

Flamefire123
"Cal what are you doing?" Leo hissed into her ear, pulling her back form this 'Zac' chick. He didn't like that overly happy look in the woman's eyes. She clearly was high on something. he glanced over as he watched this Kami person go off to the kids and frowned deeply.

"Leo" Cal whispered, "This woman called me about Paven. I want to know all that I can about this doll before I give it to Ari. I mean what if there is a defect or something?"

"How can there be a defect?" Leo asked, "The doll doesn't move!" Leo was prety good at ignoring what he wanted to ignore, like the fact that he could of sworn he saw the doll blink. It was just trick of light or something like that. Dolls don't blink.

How wrong he was...

Cal looked up as Kami drew close again and fell quiet with the arguement. She didn't like fighitng with her brother, though they seemed to be doin g it most over her own protection. Cal believed in the general good of a person. Leo beleived in the general bad, or at least he did when Cal and Ari was involed.

Then Yoru showed up. Cal's eyes whiden as she saw the doll grumble under his breath. No mechaniction was good enough to get that utterly childish look of anoyence on that doll's face...and it was moving.

"Paven...what?"

Kami.no.Kurai
“Er… Uh…” Where was that plan when you needed it? “Yoru—this doll—started to walk and talk—well, maybe not talk—it’s more of a babble—along with Zac’s dolls Kori and Tsurara—which I can’t really show you them as a doll, because one day they became children, and Zac’s swears that the two children—the ones standing back there—are them, and admittedly, they are still kinda porcelain-ish, and they act the same way, so either they are aliens, con-artists, or the dolls, and since we got the three—Yoru, Kori, and Tsurara—from Bellus Pupa we are afraid that it might happen to other dolls—like Paven, so we just wanted to inform those who bought a doll that this happened to ours, and it might happen to theirs, too.” Kami’s words came out as rushed and nervous, with a little stuttering on a few words. Some were even slurred together in an attempt to speak faster. Most of her words were still, however, understandable. Without a plan Kami was confused and apprehensive, and the longer time she spent in this state, the worse she got.

Yoru tilted his head to one side, confused with Kami’s actions. She had never acted this way before—except when some strange salesman tried to sell her something, but that’s understandable. The doll pushed down on Kami’s gripping hands with his hands, which caused his guardian to lessen the grip. He used the room he just gained to squirm out of her hands so he could sit on top of them. Kami, feeling uncomfortable with his dangerous sitting position, opened her hands, so that Yoru fell to rest in her palms instead of on clutched fists.

Flamefire123
Cal listened a lot more closely then one would think with how blank her face look. She was just trying to take it all in. Her hands were iching to grab Yoru, just to see how he would react but she could never actually raise her hands enough to grab the doll. Too many things could go wrong. It was easier, and safer, to just stand there.

Leo didn't feel the same way though. That women was nuts. Just nuts. he was sure of it. He had no idea how she mangaed tog et this whole scam up, or why but he wasn't going to get his sister suckered into it.

"Well that's a wonderful story but we have to be going" leo said quickly, harshly to make sure this Kami person knew to stay away from his sister from now on. He grabed Cal's shoulders and quickly lead her away from this whole mess.

"Leo I-" Cal started as she looked up at him but one quick look shut her up. she glanced bakc once and remmebered she should still have Kami's number on her phone. She looked down at Paven then up at Leo. She didn't want to make her brother mad so she decied. She wouldn't call Kami unless Paven started doing something really werid....Like walking around.

Flamefire123
Cal looked down that the doll that was looking at himself in a mirror. Cal couldn't beleieve how much Paven liked to look at himself. Or really anything. Paven just loved to stare. His eyes seemed to love watching her too. which dispite the fact that Paven seemed like her like a big sister it made her feel really uncomfortable. Not like Paven could even hurt her but still...

Calendra sighed and brushed back her hair as she tried to gather courage. She needed to make this call, she just had too. She had to know everything she could about Paven. It was one thing to walk away when she didn't beleive the women but now...what else would paven do. Would he grow? Would he change? She needed to know.

She picked up her phone and carefully dialed in the numbers. She put it to her ear and listened to the phone ring. Half of her hoped, hell most of her hoped, that Kami wouldn't pick up and she could leave a message for the woman to call her back. Then it wouldn't be in her court anymore and she wouldn't be controling his whole fissaco.

Kami.no.Kurai
On the other end, at an overly clean apartment, Kami did, in fact, pick up the phone, despite Cal’s hope that she would not. Then again, it could have been worse; Zac could have picked up the phone.

Kami did not speak into the phone immediately after putting it to her ear, but instead, waited a moment. After a short silence, she finally spoke, “Hello?” Her voice over the phone was almost exactly the same as her voice in real life. It was, however, happier and less nervous sounding than the time Cal met her. Then again, her tone was overly cheerful for Kami anyways. It was always that way when she was on the phone. Even with the merry sounding voice one might have been able to hear a slight annoyance in it. This being said, the same person may have been able to tell it was not the phone that caused the irritation. It was simply something which happened on her side before the phone call. It was only a salutation though, and just taking it as simple greeting was probably the best way to go.

Flamefire123
"Oh...um...you're there" Cal said embaressed and already flusters. Oh God, how in the world should she frase this? "Um...well you see, it's me. Calendra Emerson. You contacted me about Bellus Paua?" she asked, "And well...I geuss first off I'd like to apologize for my brother's rudeness and for nethir of us beleiveing you after you went though so much trouble to contact me and everything" Cal rambled. she tended to do that, ramble or not tlak. She was horrible at finding a good medium.

"But you see it just seemed so imposisble. Well...um...it doesn't seem as impossible anymore" CAl told the woman. "Paven...woke up? I don't know. He's moving though" A hint of fear entered her voice.

"Who are you talking to Cal?" Paven asked, looking away from the mirror when he heard Cal ramblign on nervusly. Cal was always nervous he noticed. About something, or more likely someone. The only time she didn't seem nervous was when she sat down with her pencial and drew in her book. She was pretty good, if paven could say so himself. At least he asumed she was good. He hadn't seen many other people draw.

Kami.no.Kurai
“Oh. Um.” What was the deal with Cal always catching her without a plan? Kami had figured nothing would happen with Paven, and then it did… Kami wondered how far two nervous people on the phone could go. “He did…? Really…? He started to move…?” This conversation wasn’t going to go anywhere to fast with Kami just asking what has already been said. Fortunately, Kami knew this. Different questions will work a whole lot better. “When, then? How is he? What are you going to do? Can I do anything to help?”

Flamefire123
Cal felt marginally better when she heard the nerves in MS voice. Good she wasn't alone. It wasn't that she was glad that Kami was uncomfortale but if she was nervous too then clearly she could be slightly less scared....Slightly.

'Yum, yes really, he started to talk too. He changed um two days ago I think. He's...pretty much okay, I have no idea what I'm going to do and yes you can help. Will...will you tell me more about what I should do? Will he change again?"

"Who are you talking to Cal?" Paven asked, completely ignoing on the phone ediquite. "Are you talking about me? Is the person nice? Can I talk? I wanna talk Cal. Please can I talk?"

Kami.no.Kurai
“Talk? Really?” Kami was now slightly excited with the new information, and it showed in her voice, even with her nervousness. “I can’t get Yoru to talk, but then again, he’s a pain… I can’t say for sure if he will change again… Zac—you know, my crazy friend—has two dolls, and both of them changed into children one night… Well, sorta children… They still have skin like porcelain. I would suggest caring for Paven like you would a fragile child. I would feed him, too. Yoru enjoys eating, although it doesn’t seem like he has to, and he can sleep, even though he usually won’t.”

It took a moment for everything to finally click in Kami’s mind. She being a person so accustomed to the logic of life had finally accepted the dolls and had now added this into her own reasoning. It is this reason she actually paid attention to the second voice she heard coming over the line. She could not make out the words, but she knew it wasn’t one she had heard at the last meeting, and it seemed…well, she couldn’t pick out the word, but the tone reminded her of Tsurara after he began to speak. “Is Paven there with you now? Speaking to you, even?”

Flamefire123
Cal was trying hard to comfort Paven and still listen to Kami but Paven wasn't one to be brushed off with a "That's nice honey, no go off and play". Cal was trying hard to listen to Kami, so she kept the phone to her ear so she couldn't cover it so Paven's voice wouldn't get over the line.

"I can't get him to be quiet" Cal told Kami, "He could turn into a child!?" Cal gasped. she went silent for a moment thinking that over. She....could be a mother. Like her mother...only not, because she didn't have sex to get Paven, Cal's cheeks blushed at the thought. Then she shook her head.

"Ah yes, he is, do you want to talk to him? I'm sure he like that"

Paven was jumping up and down now. Cal was ignoring him. That wasn't right. He wanted attention and he wanted it NOW! He waved his arms in the air while Cal talked on the phone, went silent, blushed, then spoke up again in that etneral quiet way she had of speaking. She had an apology permently caught in her throat.

"Ca-al" he whined in that special streatching out the words kinda way. "Who are you talking too? Why are you talking about me? What do you mean I could turn into a child?" he asked, "What's a child? Talk to me Cal. Please. Come on, please!?"

Kami.no.Kurai
“Talk to…a doll…over the phone?” This was the first time Kami even considered something so strange, and it was taking a moment for her to actually think it out. If she was able to talk to a doll—three dolls, in fact—in person, why couldn’t she talk to one over the phone? True, the twins had yet to use the phone, but what was the point when the two apartments were only a staircase away? “Sure, I can try talking to him,” she answered, finally accepting the idea of talking to a once inanimate object over the telephone.

Flamefire123
"Great" Cal sounded really releived, it get the pressure off her for a least a little bit. She to talk to Kami again eventually but hopefully Paven could get rid of some of his extra energy if he directed all his questions to a person that wanted to awnser him. She let out a small sigh and then pulled away from the phone.

There was muffled sound of talking the phone swaping hands. Cal's careful voice explaining how a phone work came over the line till finally Paven was ready to talk.

Paven had a million questions for Cal once she would finally talk to her but she wouldn't awnser any. She was too busy trying to explain how to work that stupid phone thingy. He could of firgued it out on his own....he was pretty sure he could anyway. Still soon he was on the phone with someone else. Someone Cal said wanted to listen to her.

"Hi, who are you? I'm Paven. Cal said that you wanted to talk to me. Why do you want to talk to me? Will I really turn into a child? What's a child? What's your name? Do you have a doll like me? Can I meet the doll? I want to meet the doll. Do you know how to make Cal listen to you? Because she doesn' listen to me very well. So how are you?"

Kami.no.Kurai
Kami was a bit—okay, much more than a bit—surprised by all the questions. She took a moment to gather her thoughts, but she hurriedly began to answer the questions as best she could, probably skipping and reordering quite a few. “Hello, I’m Kami. I have a doll named Yoru, and I’m pretty sure you can meet him if Cal says so. My friend’s two dolls became children, which are like smaller, younger versions of adults like Cal, but I don’t know if you or Yoru will. And…er…I’m fine. How are you?” The last question came out automatically for Kami. She was so used to replying that way, and when she was nervous, she had an even harder time keeping her mouth in check. She didn’t really think the phrase mattered much; she just felt strange asking it to a doll.

Flamefire123
"I'm fine" Paven asured her. Cal hadn't had time to teach him manners yet so he didn't thank her. Or anything like that. "so why do you want to talk to me?" he asked again. "I would like to to meet the children. I think being a kid soudns cool. Will I not be made of glass anymore?"

Kami.no.Kurai
Paven came at Kami with more questions, catching her off guard once again. Once more she attempted to answer as best she could. “I just wanted to meet you, is all, and I’m pretty sure the kids would agree with it being cool. My friend’s dolls—the ones who became children—are still made of porcelain, I think, or something close to it. I would guess you would be as well if you became a child. If you wish to meet the children, how about you ask Cal if you can? I’m fine with you meeting Yoru, and I’m sure my friend would allow her children to meet you.”

Kami was finally becoming more comfortable on the phone with Paven. Kami thought perhaps it was the relaxed vibe she was getting from Paven, but then again, many are more relaxed than Kami on the phone.

Flamefire123
Paven wasn't one to wait. He turned quickly to Cal and yelled at her. "CA-al" he said making the single sllyble name two syllbles long. "Can I play with this girl's doll?" he asked. "I want to play with the doll? Please?" Paven looked at Cal who was finally able to get herself back under control.

Cal sighed, "Sure, you can play with her doll. When I get back on the phone I'll arrange a play date or something" though then she have to tell her brother and he be all suspious and stuff. Cal took a deep breath and sighed. Well she'll have to let Leo know about Paven ethir way. He was going to come over eventually. He always did when she stoped tlaking to epople in her family. She would of lost contact by now if it wasn't for her brother.

"Cal says yes" Paven informed Kami grandly. "She said she will make a play date with you when she's on the phone. What's a play date?" he asked her, all rather intrested. "What's your doll like? Is it a girl or a boy?" At least Paven knew genders. "What's your name? What's your dolls name? is the doll nice? Is it really still a doll if it talks? Am I doll? Are there lots of us out there?" Paven was asking all the questions Cal wanted to but was stubmling over.

Kami.no.Kurai
“You ask a lot of questions, don’t you?” Kami chuckled a bit at Paven’s enthusiasm. He is much different from her own doll, that was for sure. “I think Yoru’s a boy, but I can’t be sure with him. He’s interacted with so few I can’t say how he would treat someone new. I don’t know if it is still a doll if it talks, but what else can you call what used to be an inactive doll? Er… You used to be a doll, and including you I only know of four dolls that have come to life, but I haven’t been looking long.” Kami was not really sure how to answer the many questions, and she knew she had skipped over some, but she wasn’t sure how to answer them all with someone as curious as Paven on the other end of the line. She answered those she remembered as well as she could and hoped that her answers wouldn’t cause any problems later on.

Flamefire123
"How else would I find out what I wanted to know?" Paven replied, sounding confused. Questions just make sense to him. He wanted to know so much and too know that much he would have to learn and to learn he would have to aks questions. Wasn't like he could read or anything."I think I'm a boy" he informed Kami. "I don't have those bumps in my chest like Cal" he said with a nod. Cal was flaming red when she over heard her doll say that. "Do you think their are others? Can I meet them too? Can I help you look?"

Kami.no.Kurai
“Yes, questions are a good thing, I think,” Kami answered quietly, not necessarily to Paven, but to anyone who just happened to be listening. She may have even been directing the statement at someone in a room with her. He was probably really short and porcelian. “I’m pretty sure there are others. I wasn’t sure before, but when started to talk and move…that kinds of proves it. I don’t mind having help. In fact, I would love to have help looking. I’m not very good at it, actually. At least, I don’t think so.” Kami was not sure how a little moving doll could help her, no matter how much he liked to learn, but she didn’t know how else to answer. If he could help, she would love it. She figured, however, that for Paven to help his guardian—and her guardian, of course—may be able to help if they wish.

Flamefire123
"What do you want me to do to help? I can prove to people that you're not nuts. After all Cal talks about how Leo thought you were nuts because you had only Yoru that could fo been mechanical or something. I dunno. I never met Leo. Have you met Leo? I don't think I like Leo much. But I haven't met him so I wouldn't know but from what I heard about him I wouldn't like him. He seems really closed minded you know? I like to have an open mind but I don't know much. I geuss it's easy to have an open mind when you have alot to know. I also haven't been around for along time ethir"

Kami.no.Kurai
Kami twitched slightly on the other side of the line. Only Zac was “nuts”; Kami was definitely not “nuts,” sure. “I’ve met Leo once. It was only a short moment, but I don’t think either of us made a good first impression on the other,” Kami replied as nicely as she could. She really did not know what to think of Leo from the first time she met him. The only thing she thought about when she met him was how she wouldn’t back down, and this, she knew, wasn’t much to go on. “I think, though, that would be helpful. Two dolls as proof is better than one. What does Cal think about this idea, though?

Flamefire123
"Oh right Cal. I'm suppose to ask her opionan on stuff aren't I?" he asked and grined. "Well why don't you ask her, that way you two can also set up a play date. I want a play date. Play dates sound like a lot of fun and the only person I get to talk to is Cal and she doesn't awnser me half the time. I like you. You awnser my questions" Paven praised happily.

Kami.no.Kurai
“I like you, too,” Kami replied as calmly as she could, attempting to keep the embarrassment out of her voice. She saw this phone conversation as a bit odd, and of course, long. Kami really was not one for phones; both friends and enemies are easier to face when you can actually see them. It was especially strange talking to a doll you had never seen active in real life; all she could think of was the still doll she saw with Cal in the park. “Okay, I’ll ask her, and we can set up a play date.”

Flamefire123
Paven grined happily, his entire day made with those four words. Kami liked him too. He grined and turned to Cal. "Caaaaal Kami wants to talk to yooooooou" he turned to her and pointed to the phone. "She wants to set up a play date. I can have a play date right? I want to meet the doll that Kami has"

Cal sighed and then got up to grab the phone. "Sure you can have a play date Paven, I'll set it up with Kami" she asured him, "Why don't you...go...and" crap she had no where to send him. He would need his own room if he turned into a kid. Cal only had one room. Her own. Oh no...she was going to have to move...

Cal shook her head and grabed Paven, "Just go, I want to talk to Kami now and it's rude for you to talk to me while I'm talking to her."

"What's rude? Why is it rude? Do I have to go? I wnat to know when the play date is" Paven instently got started on Cal. She held up a hand to quiet him though.

"Rude is where you're not polite. It's a bad thing to be. It's rude because I can hear what she has to say and you don't have to go, just be quiet for a bit" Cal told him, then went to the phone. "I'm sorry about all this time I'm taking" she started off. "I just meant this to be a quick phone call"

Kami.no.Kurai
“It’s okay. I wasn’t doing anything, anyways,” Kami assured Cal. “I was trying to get Yoru to talk, but all I can get him to say is ‘no’ over and over. This is much more productive.” There may have been a soft noise over on Cal’s side. It was, if heard, obvious that she had changed the position in which she was holding the phone. This was so Kami could get a pen and paper to write down the answer to her next question. “So, about the play date… When’s a good time for the play date and where? I’m free in the evening on weekdays and from the afternoon on during the weekends.” Kami was much less nervous now. Talking to Paven may have been a cause of this, but then again, it could simply be the fact that she now had somewhat of a plan.

Flamefire123
"I wish Paven would just say no sometimes" Cal said with a heavy sigh then rubbed her temples. "Well if I go anywhere I'm sure Leo will want to tag along and I got work most evenings...is it okay if I leave Paven alone when I go to work or should I bring him with me?" she asked Kami. She hadn't had work since he woke up and she worried about him making a big scene at her work. "But as for date, how about this satuday, around 3?"

Kami.no.Kurai
Kami used her mouth to pull the lid off the pen, quickly letting the lid fall to the table so she could speak. She wrote down the date and time quickly, and then answered, “Yes, that would work for me. As for the work thing, I wouldn’t suggest taking Paven with you, but I’m not sure if he can be trusted alone. Yoru hates being alone, but he caused problems at work for me, so I leave him with my friend… Do you know of anyone to leave him with? Of course, someone would have to explain the situation and the fact that he’s a talking, moving doll…” Kami was about to place the cap back on the pen, but stopped, saying, “Er…uh… Where would you like the play date to be?”

Flamefire123
"I geuss since I'm not giving him to Ari anymore I can ask her. I bet the whole concept would just thrill her." And if Paven wasn't going to grow anymore she would still give it to Ari because she would love a living doll. Still Paven was still a guy and Ari was too young tot ake care of kids. So was cal but it wasn't like she could ask for a refund and give Paven back. She would take care of the loud doll.

"Oh, I was thinking the park agian? We can meet in the same place we met before" Cal thought that be easiest, they both knew where that was after all. No trying to lead the other to a place they never heard of.

Kami.no.Kurai
“Yeah, that works for me,” Kami answered, finally returning to her overly joyful “phone voice.” She scribbled down some notes about the meeting place. She knew where it was, but writing it down made the cautious girl feel better. “I think…we’ve taken care of everything? If you have any other questions you can call me again… I guess I need to get back to taking care of Yoru now… So..uh…bye…?”

Flamefire123
"Yeah," Cal agreeded softly, "Paven will start bugging me again in a minutes. Thank you for your time. You have been very helpful and if I think of anything else I'll ask you on Satuday. See you then, and thanks for talking to Paven for me" Cal thanked her alot. She thanked alot of people alot. "It was nice talking to you, see you saturday" Cal said, then hung up the phone.

Stashed Away - 06.16.06

Kami’s usually clean home went through a change today. Every drawer seemed to be open, if not overturned in the small apartment. Chairs were piled against the wall, and the sofa was pushed to the side. The phone had even been removed from its usual spot on the side table to the floor. Interestingly enough, the one which caused this slight destruction was Kami herself.

She knew she had put that stupid piece of paper somewhere for safe keeping. That was the problem, of course. She filed it away so safely that not even she could find it. For now Kami had given up and pulled one of the chairs back to the kitchen table.
Yoru sat in front of her, gnawing on some pocky he had been rewarded for being good.

“I can’t find it, Yoru,” Kami mumbled to the doll, who did not answer. She laid her head down on the table to think. The paper she had misplaced was important to her. On it was the place and time of Yoru’s play date with Paven. Kami wrote it down so she would not forget, and then she lost the stupid notes!

“Try to remember… Okay, it’s at the park… That same spot…” She lifted her head and watched Yoru. He silently stared back. “Yoru, help me and I’ll give you more food.”

Yoru and Kami locked stares for a moment. He finished the piece of pocky he was on and wiped his face on his glove. Still, no answer. He finally stood and shrugged. Then, for some unknown reason, the doll pointed. “Bah.”

The woman stared at her doll confused for a moment, and then followed the finger. The refrigerator sat there, untouched, with a piece of paper stuck to it. Kami shot out of the chair and grabbed it from the fridge, the magnet falling to the floor. “The refrigerator! Of course! Ah, it’s tomorrow! Eep, I have to get ready! Thanks, Yoru!”

Kami was out of the kitchen in seconds, leaving a surprised Yoru standing there in silence. He waved his arms around, yelled, and then sat down, once again quiet. He’ll bother Kami for the food after she finishes cleaning up.

Kami.no.Kurai
Lazily, the young woman brought her hands together over her lap. She—Kami—was not smiling, but she was not frowning, either. She just wanted to avoid all unnecessary attention, at least for now. Beside her lay her jacket, thrown against the bench so that one sleeve and the hood hung down over the seat in a languid manner. On top of that was the object she hoped people would ignore. More accurately, it was the thing inside of it. Over the black jacket lay a little black bag, propped up against the back of the bench. Looking out was Yoru. He was silent and still like he always was after Kami gave the command, but she knew if he was given enough attention he would forget her orders.

In an attempt to avoid Zac, Kami had left earlier than planned, and therefore, arrived a few minutes before the meeting time. No matter how long she had to wait, however, Kami would act like she had just arrived herself, so as not to make the other feel too guilty. Today—Saturday—she was meeting up with Cal for the planned play date between their two dolls.

Flamefire123
Cal moved quickly, and in that jerky way that said she felt she shouldn't be here. And it was the truth. Leo told her not to come. He told her point blank that she should avoid this Kami woman, and here she was, meeting her. At a planed time. A play date. One she had been forbidden from coming too.

And yet here she was. Why? Her frantic mind picked at that question, searched franticly for an answer while her stomache flirted with an ulcer and her head dances with a migrine. She luckily had nethir...yet.

"Are we almost there yet?" Paven asked for the millionth time as he looked over the small book bag Cal had found to carry him in. He was careful about the talking thing, kinda. Nothing in the world would stop him from asking questions. A big one he wanted to ask Kami is when was he going to become a child. Then he could talk without people bothering Cal.

Cal glanced down and paused for a moment, just a moment to take a deep breath. No reason to let Kami, or Paven, know that her favorite person in the world hated the idea of her going around the woman her....doll loved. She gave him a smile, clearly forced but at least it was a smile.

"Were almost there" she promised, then picked up her pace. Paven was why. He was the reason she was disobeying her brother's orders. Somehow his happiness has become more important then Leo's. How did that happen? Oh great, a new thing to worry about.

Kami.no.Kurai
Kami quickly got to her feet, believing the woman she saw in the distance was Cal. This time Kami made sure to prepare somewhat of plan. It wasn’t enough to keep her from being a little jumpy, but at least she wouldn’t stutter and mumble. She made a quick grab for her bag, sending a shocked Yoru flying to the bottom, and then picked up her jacket. She put the jacket on, over her tank top, and began toward the figure.

Yoru snarled slightly, but he quickly shut up, afraid that Kami might hear. Luckily for him, the dark fabric he was lost in muffled any noise he made to the outside world. He attempted to stand, then, and climbed to the top of the back, where he looked out, hoping to see the person Kami talked about meeting.

Flamefire123
Cal moved forward quick enough, she paused as she reached the spot she met Kami last time, and quickly spoted her. Cal forced another smile on her lips and she held out her hand. Kami and her weren't really friend, more like aquentiences that fumbled every time they drew near each other.

"Kami, I'm glad you came' Cal said formally, then, "Paven has been looking forward to this since we hung up the phone" she added, a bit more natural as she reached down and brought Paven up and out.

"Kami" Paven cried out happily, and loudly, some people look and Cal saw their eyes slide over her then Kami then away. Paven glanced up to see Cal was blushing something horrible and remembered he was suppose to keep his voice down.

"I missed you, I knew you be pretty" Paven said, in an easy way that was childish, not flirty. "You were so nice to not be pretty" he added with a nod, "So who am I meeting again? How long have you been here? Did you wait long? When will I be a child?" Paven asked in his usual style. Fast.

Kami.no.Kurai
A bit shyly, Kami attempted to take and shake Cal’s hand. “I’m glad you came, too,” Kami answered. The nervousness was not as easy to hear as before, although it was still faintly there. She smiled, then, no longer keeping an emotionless expression.

When Kami laid her eyes on Paven her face lit up slightly. She didn’t even notice how loud he was talking. And then he spoke again. He missed her. She was pretty. She was nice. Those three things were rarely said to her. Her face grew hot, her cheeks slightly red, and her fingers twitched from embarrassment. Even come from a doll in a childish tone, Kami still had to blush. She took a deep breath, making sure her voice was normal when she spoke. “I just got here, and I’m not sure if and when you will become a child.” Kami reached into her bag, pulling out her doll. This was the perfect was to settle herself down. "This is Yoru."

Yoru flailed for a moment, and then froze, seeing the two people Kami was talking with. Cal did not interest him; he had seen enough of the big people. Paven, on the other hand, was the same size as him. He was the same size as Tsurara was; the same size he first met his best friend in.

Flamefire123
Cal smile turned more real when Kami blushed. She would of had the same reaction had their places been switched. It made her feel slightly closer to the woman. Cal had little, well really no friends, outside of her family. She was horrible at talking to people and as long as no one noticed her eyes she was ignored. As the shy commanly are.

Paven on the other hand was charmed, he grined and stood up straight. Working his way to his first crush. He liked Kami a whole lot. She was pretty, to him at least. And nice, and kind and he had missed her, even if he only talked to her on the phone once. She listened to him, something that Cal seemed to do only rarely, though she was getting better.

"Aww, I want to be a child so people wont freak if I talk. And" he cut himself off and yoru was taken out. Paven never seen another person his size. He tugged on Cal's arm so she would move Paven closer and she did. Paven took a close look, then smiled warmly.

"Hi!, Who are you? Does Kami watch you? Isn't she great? I bet you love having her as yoru gaurdian. I enver met another doll like me. How long have you been a doll? Do you know any other dolls like me? I want to meet more people like me. Then I wont be as lonely right?"

Kami.no.Kurai
The little doll was surprised by all the questions, but unlike Kami, when something so strange was thrown at him his facial expression did not change. He looked Paven straight and the eye, and said, “Tsu.”

Kami chuckled quietly to herself. It seemed Paven talks to everyone the same way: with a lot of questions right after another. “Yoru doesn’t seem to talk, Paven. At least, he won’t talk to me. But he actually said ‘tsu’ to you… It takes forever for him to even say that to me.” She cocked her head to the side, then, realizing how strange it was for him to actually say that. “He may have been attempting to answer of your questions, though. Tsurara is Yoru’s friend. He’s one of the two dolls that became a child. The other is his sister Kori.”

Yoru grinned slightly, poking Kami in her hand with his tiny fingers. He looked up at her with a smile still on his face. Kami took this look as a request to stand on her hands instead of being held like he currently was. In reality she knew it was probably a demand, but she did it anyways, allowing Yoru to sit on her two hands, fingers intertwined to form a seat. He let his feet to dangle off as he continued to stare at Paven. Like a good doll he still resisted the urge to move too much.

Flamefire123
"He can't talk?" the idea surpised Paven who started talking as soon as he could. "Well you should learn" he told Yoru. "I'll be willing to teach you. I'll even talk slower if you. But if you don't then that's cool too. It's not because I think you're stupid or anything. Kami wouldn't have a stupid doll" Paven said wisely.

"So that's the child. I want to meet them. How can I meet them Kami? You must know them if Yoru knows them" Paven pointed out. "Then I can ask HIM all the questions. The child can talk right?" Paven asked Kami before smiling at Yoru.

He didn't want the silent doll to feel left out or anything. Paven wasn't a good little doll because he liked to move alot, talk fast and loud, look at me, he seemed to say. I'm special!.

Kami.no.Kurai
“Yes, I know them,” Kami replied jovially, although not in that overly happy “phone voice” she was so accustomed to using when on the telephone. “I could ask them if they want to meet you sometime. I’m sure Tsurara would say yes, and I’m pretty sure he would answer your questions, too. In fact, I think he would enjoy having more friends.”

Kami was sure Tsurara and Paven would get along. Perhaps she was too sure. Paven reminded Kami of Tsurara for some reason, and she wasn’t sure why. She still thought it was the excitement Paven seemed to have when he spoke. They both share that, so they should get along. She knew for sure, however, that Tsurara wouldn’t hold anything against Paven, for Tsurara liked everyone. She knew, too, that Kori probably wouldn’t like Paven, because she only attached herself to a few. She wasn’t prepared to say this aloud, though, especially around Zac.

Yoru grin widened as they continued to talk about Tsurara. He crossed his legs, still allowing them to hang over the edge of Kami’s hands. He folded his arms across his chest and continued to stare at Paven. So far Yoru had nothing against Paven. This didn’t mean he necessarily liked Paven, for it takes a while for Yoru to actually like someone, but it's a start.

Flamefire123
Paven was determained to be liked. He wanted all he liked to like him back. So far he suceeded. Ari liked him, Kami liked him and Cal kinda liked him. Just like he kinda like Cal. He wasn't exactly sure of his feelings of the quiet girl but he did know that she tolerated him and didn't mind him being around. Which was how he was sure she felt about her. Maybe she like him more if that stupid brother of hers didn't hate him so much. Paven didn't like Leo.

"That sounds like fun!" Paven said happily, then looked up at Cal, "Could we do that sometime? Pleaseeeeeeeeee" Paven begged in the way that kids love too. Anoyingly.

Cal sighed, but in an indugent way and looked at Paven. "You are already asking for another playdate? I can't keep up. How do you have more of a life then I do already?" she asked in a teasing sort of manner, then looked over to Kami.

"I geuss it be okay, sometime but maybe not for a while" Cal said evasivly. She worried aobut Leo, if the kids were the ones she saw the first time she met Kami that meant their mother was that scary Zac lady. Cal didn't like her much, oh not at all but Zac must be friends with Kami so Cal didn't want to insult the kind woman.

Kami.no.Kurai
Cal thought right not to insult Zac, although Kami had to agree her crazy Zac was quite scary, even when she was on her meds. Kami may not like Zac all the time—or most of the time, even—but the woman was like a sister to her, a sister whom she couldn’t get rid of and had to take care. Possibly lucky for Cal, Kami did not hear even a hint of evasiveness in her voice.

“I understand,” Kami replied, nodding. “It really would be too soon, I’d think, and I’m not sure how to bring it up with Tsurara, anyways…”

Kami shifted her gaze to her hands where Yoru sat, still staring at the strange doll in front of him. Quickly, without warning, Kami untangled her intertwined fingers, removing Yoru’s seat right out from under him. With the same fast speed she brought both hands up, again locking them together, but this time around a slightly unhappy Yoru. “This hasn’t been much of a play date so far,” Kami said jokingly as Yoru flailed his arms about in her hands.

Flamefire123
Cal was very concious of insulting others. Kami struck her as a loyal woman who would not want someone insulting her friend, no matter how honest or soft the insult was. Cal wasn't mean, even if she disliked someone, or more likely, was scared of them she never be mean about it.

When Kami suddenly changed her grip on Yoru she looked around, "Maybe we should set them down," Cal suggested, "Somewhere where they can run and no one will see them"

Kami.no.Kurai
Chewing on her lower lip, Kami thought for a moment for an idea. Well, there was that place. “I know of a place that’s somewhat secluded her in the park. Of course, there are others, too, but I’m more familiar with the one I’m thinking of. I prefer being there if Zac is along so there are less people to see her. We could go there, I guess...?”

This place Kami thought of was, although secluded, not too far away from people in case anything happens. It was away from the playground so no children would interfere, and it wasn’t a normal place for adults to gather. It was safe and somewhat secluded, so it was the perfect place for Paven and Yoru. At least, Kami thought so.

Flamefire123
"Okay" Cal quickly agreed, "That sounds good. I haven't been to this park much because Ari out grew parks years ago, before I moved to this area. I geuss I'll have to learn it" Cal said softly, and gave a small sigh, then looked to Paven.

"Um...Kami, what am I suppose to do when Paven turns into a child? I like in a single bedroom apartment, and I can't aford any bigger" Cal didn't want to ask Leo for help because he didn't like Paven. And...Paven didn't like him.

"I can sleep on the floor Cal" Paven asured her, then looked to Kami, smiling brightly at her. "Sleeping on the floor is okay right Kami? I mean it's suppsoe to be good for your back and a kid shouldn't take up so much room right? I mean I know I'll be bigger but not that big...how big are the kids you know Yoru" Paven asked the doll suddenly because he didn't want yoru to feel left out just because he was quiet.

Kami.no.Kurai
Yoru cocked his head at the question, not really sure how to answer. A few moments later, he figured it out. “Tsu!” Along with that one syllable Yoru pointed toward a child at the park, a little less than four feet high. That was, all things considering, a pretty descriptive answer to get out of Yoru.

Just like Yoru, Kami tilted her head to the side. That was a bit out-of-character for the tiny doll. After she got over the shock, she said, “Yes, the floor could work, but I think some type of mattress would be better… Actually, there are free apartments at the apartment complex I live in, and the owner does owe me some favors… I could probably convince him to allow you to live in one of the two bedroom apartments for a good price.” After giving her answer Kami turned slightly away from Cal and began to walk down the park path. A few feet away she stopped and looked back. “The place I was talking about is this way.” Yoru safely in her hands, she started to lead the way.

Flamefire123
Paven looked over to the boy and nodded, he got it. He grined at Yoru, knowing that even if the doll didn't talk it didn't mean that he couldn't comunicate. Paven got what Yoru meant. This Tsu guy looked big to him but then agian so did everyone. He giggled and noddded agian. "That's cool, so when we become kids we'll be BIG!"

Cal blinked at the suggestion. "Really?" she asked in surpise. "I would really like that, thank you! I mean just talking to her would be nice, even if it doesn't happen. I still should have sometime before Paven becomes a child right?" Cal asked Kami. She should buy a cheep sleeping bag just in case. That would work for a night or two.

Kami.no.Kurai
Kami brought Yoru’s tiny frame close her chest, then as she thought. He said something to her, but she ignored it, mainly because she had no clue what he was trying to say to her. She just knew she felt he was safer this way. “It took a while for Tsurara and Kori to grow, so I would think there would still be time before he becomes a child. If he does, I mean.” Kami looked down from the path as Yoru began to trace something on her hand with his finger. Ah, he was bored… “I can try to convince the owner to meet with you when I get back tonight. I can call you afterwards to tell you his answer and when it could be possible for you to meet him… Is that alright?”

The time it took for the two people and their dolls exchange words and, in Yoru’s case, babble, Kami had led them even closer to the secluded spot of which she spoke. Now there were fewer people around them, and soon they would be there.

Flamefire123
"Sure, that would be lovely. I don't have work today so I'll be home. I need to do some cleaning but if I don't answer then just leave a message" Cal asured Kami in a rush. Really she liked this woman. Maybe Leo was wrong. Kami was kind, like Paven said. No reason to fear her. At least none that Cal saw, and Paven liked ehr. Maybe she should talk to Leo aobut letting Kami have another chance. "But I would really apprecate it"

Kami.no.Kurai
“Okay, I’ll do that. The owner’s nice enough, so I’m sure we can get a good deal,” Kami said, mostly to assure herself. She knew that they would accomplish something, and she was sure she could convince him to give Cal a good price for the apartment, but she first had to make sure she could keep the apartment complex under control… She wasn’t sure how everyone there would react, but she knew she could probably handle it before Cal moved in.

Now there were even less people around them. There were almost no children now, for they were far enough away from any playground or fountain children seemed to flock to at this park. Kami continued to lead, and in a few moments they were in the place of which she spoke. It was an ignored part of the local park, circular in shape with what might be called woods on most of the sides. The only part where there were no trees blocking the view of the few people around was the entranceway—the path the group had used to walk in. As Kami had said before, it was secluded, an isolated part of the park, where very few would come. There was no one there for now, which was good for them, but just in case anything happened, they could always yell for help to the few people “outside.”

"Here we are," Kami said as she reached the middle of the circle. She quickly set Yoru on the ground to stand. She knew he hated being held.

Flamefire123
"Thank you so much Kami" Cal said greatfully, with a large smile. This made things seem better. She could handle a small raise in rent, she'd ask her work for more hours though, once Paven was a child he need food, and clothes and a place to sleep, and toys and...Cal started to get a headache thinking of the money she would need. Well Leo would help some and she could always borrow from a friend or something. money was out there, she just have to work for it.

When they reached the deserted part she set Paven down and took a step back, trying to just watch him. She looked around but expected to find nothing. She just wanted to look. She eventually sat down, moving her windbreaker out of the way. She didn't want grass stains on it.

Paven grined, and went runing, for Yoru. "Wow, it's soo nice to move you know?" eh asked the doll, reaching over to help him up. "Do you come to this park often?" Paven asked, pausing just long enough so Yoru could shake his head, if he wanted to and then he continued. "I think I like this park. We can be alone. I like Kami, I bet you like Kami too huh? I wish I could live with Kami too. That be cool, because then we be like brothers. Cal has a brother but he's mean. Very mean. He called Kami crazy"

CAl winced as Paven said that and blushed, she turned and looked away from Kami, she didn't want to the woman to get mad at her. She didn't beleive it, but it was her brother that said it. Her brother was just protective that's all. It's not his fault. He just doesn't want anyone to hurt her.

Kami.no.Kurai
At each question Yoru shrugged, and when he wasn’t shrugging he was raising an eyebrow at the talkative doll. Unless you really caught his attention, these were the type of answers Yoru would give, especially when he wasn’t sure how to answer. In fact, if one were to ask him if he’d jump off a cliff, he would probably still answer in one of these two ways. It would probably be the shrug; it’s his answer to almost everything.

And then Paven said the last thing… “He called Kami crazy.” At this Yoru cocked his head, and then slowly began to scratch his head. He was used to Zac being called crazy but not Kami.

Kami, on the other hand, reacted a bit more. She let out a soft nervous chuckle at the statement. Instead of looking upset, she was embarrassed. So she had seemed crazy that time… Just as she expected.

Flamefire123
Paven didn't seem to need much more then a shrug. A shrug meant that Yoru was listening, that's what mattered. That's all Paven wanted, was for someone to listen, they didn't have to reply, or comment, or even listen hard. Just enough so he knew they cared.

"That's why I don't like Leo. Kami isn't crazy. She's the nicest person I know" Paven continued. "Leo is just a jerk, who wants to hide Cal from the world!"

"Paven" Cal spoke up, softly, Paven looked over to her and understood. Cal loved Leo, no matter what. Leo was her brother, he had helped her countless times. never forgot her, never ignored her, always loved her. And she always loved him. They were family, in the truest sense of the word.

Paven rolled his eyes still, "Cal wants me to stop. i don't know why she likes him so much, but I geuss he's nicer to her. He doesn't like me" Paven said, frowning a bit, "Do you like me Yoru?"

Kami.no.Kurai
This time Yoru did not answer merely with a shrug or eyebrow raise. To him, this question deserved a bit more. Unfortunately, this was the first time the doll was faced with such a question. Tsurara knew he liked him, so he didn’t have to ask. Kori, on the other hand, didn’t like him and he didn’t like her, so the question was never needed. Yoru would ignore the question from Zac, and the question was too un-Kami-like. The interaction between the doll and guardian was mainly limited to asking for food and giving food, annoying and being annoyed, staring at each other, being taught and teaching, and breaking things and cleaning them up. She had never asked such a question. Plus, Yoru wasn’t sure of the answer. Of course, he knew of the easiest way to deal with it.

Yoru folded his arms over his chest, grinning wide. “Bah,” and with a nod, that was his answer.

Kami breathed out after her doll answered, thankful he didn’t do anything that would hurt anyone’s feelings. She didn’t want to know what would happen if he said ‘no’, something he could actually do, or had just shrugged. She didn’t know what Cal or Paven would think if something like that had happened.

Flamefire123
Paven didn't need the word, the smile held it for him. Paven grined really big and hugged Yoru quickly. "I like you too!" he told Yoru, "You're like Kami, you listen" he informed him, "And I like Kami, so I like you" Paven gave reasons, gave him more things to say. He liked saying things, certainly when people listened.

Cal watched all this intresting, how did Paven do it? He just simply accepted every sound that Yoru made as a posstive one. He simply accepted Yoru as a friend. Cal let out a soft sigh of envy. She wished it was so easy for her. She curled up a bit and galnced at Kami, maybe she should make a try. Try and be like Paven.

"Well they seem to get along at least" Cal said softly, shyly.

Kami.no.Kurai
Yoru did not react to the hug. He simply accepted it, or possibly he was too surprised to act. Other than Tsurara, Paven was the first to actual do something like that. He raised an eyebrow as Paven continued to speak. He was still grinning, although it wasn’t as wide as before, probably because it hurt to much to smile so big for so long.

Kami finally got tired of standing, walking farther away from the two dolls and closer to Cal. She sat down beside her indian-style to watch the strange little Bellus Pupa dolls. “Yes, they are getting along better than I expected. Yoru is a bit difficult to deal with at times, so I wasn’t sure…”

Flamefire123
"I think Paven could deal with a rock so long he believed it was listening" Cal murrmered, but with a small smile. She get embaressed by the rock. She sighed and curled up, pulling her knees to her chest. She was pathetic she sighed. Then glanced at Kami. "Yoru is nice enough I think. He responds at least,"

Paven smiled back to the smile and contnued to talk. Yoru was smiling at him, he must ike him. Paven forced Yoru to move too. He asked questions, made statments and pointed out oddities and he never asked for more then a shrug or nod in return.

Kami.no.Kurai
“I’m surprised about that actually,” Kami admitted quietly, in an attempt to keep her own doll from overhearing what she was saying about him. “But it might prove something… He only willingly responds to Tsurara and Kori, and now Paven. He seems to prefer interacting with other dolls.” Unless, of course, Paven started talking to that rock Cal was talking about. Then Yoru would probably walk away. He does it to Kami enough when she starts talking to herself.

With each question Yoru continued to shrug, and at each statement he raised an eyebrow. He may have cocked his head if any of those oddities Paven pointed out were interesting enough to him. Yoru may even learn something new from Paven just by listening to him, but he would never admit to that.

Flamefire123
Paven wasn't trying to teach, infact most of his questions were in want to learn. Paven had a great desire to learn, but even though Cal was teaching Paven to read he found no real joy in that. He liked people to teach him. Cal was trying to teach him some things but what she knew most about was drawing. Maybe when Paven was a child Cal would enroll him in school. That would make Paven very happy, at least Cal hoped so.

"Paven seems to respond to all" Cal said softly. "He really loves talking, and he isn't shy at all. I envy him for that" she said softly, sadly, blinking her duel colored eyes. She grew up being teased and it was hard to try to easily make friends. The few friends she had made were because they talked to her, or merely tolerated her. She never had a good friend in her life. She grew up just floating in some group that would tolerate her and sometimes invite her along, but not much else. And boys have enver been part of her life. She wasn't pretty, not in her eyes and guy were ethir ignoring her or being freaked out by her eyes.

Kami.no.Kurai
Paven and Yoru had that in common, at least. They both liked to learn. They had different ways of going about to do that, though; Paven went to people to teach him, and Yoru avoided the people and went straight to the thing he was interested in. Of course, Paven’s way was more effective. Yoru had to be interested in something before he went to go investigate, and then it had to be around for him to look into it. Such as doorknobs. Or door handles. Unfortunately, he doesn’t like them, he discovered, so he would never learn what they were called. It became Kami’s job to deal with the funny things on the doors.

“I have to admit, I envy him, too,” Kami whispered kindly. “I’ve never been good with people. When I’m alone with another person, I just want to run and hide. If Zac is there, though, I usually end up getting upset, either because they hurt her or she embarrasses me.” Kami chuckled and tucked her hair behind her ears, in attempt to keep it out of her face. This failed, however, and just ended up back where it started. “I’m pretty sure neither way is very good for making friends.”

Kami realized it was strange for her to talk about herself, especially without anyone trying to pry things out of her. She rarely tells her only friend, Zac, anything, and she attempts to hide her inner thoughts from her family, even though two family members seem to know everything anyways. It was probably Kami’s attempt at keeping up the conversation, or perhaps she did not want Cal to feel strange talking about herself. Either way, Kami felt weird with what she was saying.

Flamefire123
Paven was intrested in everything too. He already knew the name of everything in the house because he asked Cal what they were. If there was one thing Paven didn't like it was being alone. After all how could he ask questions if no one was around to answer, or listen. Sure he got no awnser from Yoru but he was listening. Paven could tell because he shrugged, gave him werid looks and sometimes even looked at what Paven was looking at. So Yoru was a friend, not a teacher like Kami or Cal was. Which was fine with Paven. He needed friends as well as teachers after all. He liked Yoru as a friend but then agin he like most everyone, 'cept Leo but Leo was a meanie but. He insulted Kami. Kami was like...great!

Cal looked over to Kami in surpise. She didn't even have a friend like Zac, which Cal wasn't sure if that was good or bad but she did know that she understood what Kami was going though at least. Funny, for some reason Kami didn't strike her as shy or akward...maybe because she was looking at her as a person with all the answers, when in reality she only knew slightly more then Cal herself.

"Paven admires you" Cal told her, "He talked around this play date for days. He really likes you" she added, looking over to the doll. "He doesn't like me as much" she admited sadly, "But I haven't treated him as well as you have. He scares me" Cal admited ashamed. "He could become a child. I could be a mother and I don't even know how to take care of myself. How am I suppose to take care of a kid? Certainly one like Paven who already seems more ready for thsi world then I am"

Kami.no.Kurai
“He’s probably more ready than me, even,” Kami admitted. It was, of course, in an attempt not to make Cal feel bad about it, even if it was true. Zac and her family were the only ones Kami really had, even if Zac was a pain, and they were the only ones Kami knew to deal with… outside of her job, of course. “I’m not really sure how to take care of a child, either. I know how to take care of Zac, sorta, but Yoru is nothing like her, so I don’t think that will help… For some reason, though, Zac seems to be able to take care of her children fairly well. Her children actually like her, for one, where as Yoru usually ignores or babbles angrily at me. Paven hasn’t known him as long, and he handles him better than me.” Kami sighed and brought her arms up to fold over her chest. She watched her doll, still answering Paven in the same way as before.

Flamefire123
Cal nodded and bit back a sigh. This conversation was depressing. Cal glanced up at the sky and noticed the sun started to head down. She wanted to give Paven more time to play though so she didn't say anything. Instead she looked voer at Kami.

"What do you do for work?" she asked, trying to change the topic to something that wont eat away at their self confdence. Something that aparently only Paven had in abudence here. That or he just didn't know what the word embrassment meant. Cal envied the samll little doll with the bright smile.

"So do you play games Yoru?" Paven asked Yoru. "Like tag and stuff. I always wanted to play games. I bet we can do hide and seek really well out here but you have to count outloud for that" eh thought and frowned. "And we need more people for tag don't we? Only two people for tag doesn't seem like such a good idea. What do you play with Tsu?"

Kami.no.Kurai
Glad for a change in topic, Kami answered, “Multiple things, although really they are all the same things. Basically, whatever I can do that involves one of my strong points that can make money. Of course, it has to fit my morals as well.” Kami hoped she avoided the question well enough. Her job was one thing she rarely talked about. Yoru was one of the few people who knew, and that only because he snuck into her bag one day. “So..er…What do you do?”

Kami, too, had noticed that the sun was leaving them. She would mention it soon. She had to get back to the apartment before Zac started worrying, and she needed to meet with the apartment landlord…but it could wait for now. Right now she was more interested in Cal and the strange way Yoru was acting. She was, too, hoping Paven could make Yoru mind a bit more…or, at least, be a bit nicer to her.

Blood red eyes lit up at the mention of that name, or more accurately, nickname. Tsurara—that was something with which Yoru was familiar. His arms fell to his side as he began to think of an answer. He was just always around Tsurara, listening and, sometimes, gnawing on him. He pointed to Paven with one hand, and then to himself. He used his other hand to point at his own ear. “Bah.” Tsurara talked, and Yoru listened. Sadly, they couldn’t do much more after Tsurara grew, but somehow Tsurara always understood him, so it was okay.

Flamefire123
Cal glanced voer, she got a quick clear sign from Kami's awnser. No tresspassing. Fine she didn't have to know. She was okay with not knowing. She was sure Kami had fine morals and she saw no reason to worry what her job would be. No Kami could keep her secret. Cal was never a nosey person, she was too shy to be.

"I work at an art suply store" she said softly, "I sell art suplies. I try to sell paintings I make to galleries though but no one wants them" she added with a sad sort of shrug. "I've been doing a few sketches of Paven. I'm trying to make it obvious that he moves but keep it innocent and pure"

Paven titled his head to the side. Trying to figure out what he meant by that. "Tsu...Tsu...talks?" he asked at last, "And you...listen?" he was jsut geussing and it was prehaps the slowest he had ever spoken since he awaken. But now he had to talk slow, as his thoughts were slow and he had to wait for Yoru's answer.

Kami.no.Kurai
”I…see…” Kami replied slowly. She figured she would have to pick her words carefully here. “I’ve never seen your art, but I’m sure I’d like it. The galleries may just turn you away because they believe you lack experience, even if it isn’t true. Have you tried selling it to individuals? I would think you would have much better chances there, instead of relying on a stuck-up company or dealer to see how good you really are.” Kami was hoping this would help some. She was relying on information from her sister for this, and she was hoping she remembered right, too…

Yoru nodded, for a lack of a better word, excitedly. The nod wasn’t to the point of crazy-overly-hyper-head-bashing-ness, but it was still too quick to be Yoru’s normal bored answers. Paven understood him perfectly, which was much more than Kami ever did. Now Paven may have been heading toward being considered a friend by Yoru. He was neither yelling or pushing him away like Kori, and he actually understood him like Tsurara!

Kami stood up and stretched her arms upward. She let them fall to her side, and then took a step toward the two dolls. “I think we may need to go now. What do you think, Cal? It’s getting late, and I’m sure I’m not the only one that would prefer some light while she walks home…”

Flamefire123
Cal merely shrugged, "I give some to family" she said softly, "But I doubt anyone would want to by my work" she said softly and shrugged again. She loved to draw, and since she forgoed a college education there wasn't must else she could do. Calw asn't seeking a career. She just wnated something that kept her head above water. She enver looked for or expected riches in her life. She just didn't want to be homeless. Now she wanted Paven to have a nicer life then what she had, she hoped that some how she could give it to him.

Paven grined, noticing that Yoru seemed more excited. True it wasn't nearly as entergetic as Paven was just normally but he definatly noticed a difference. He understood the quiet doll...and he liked that! Paven felt proud of his acheivment, glad he understood his friend.

"Cool, well I'm really good at that" he said with a grin, "You don't mind if I ask questions though right? Like the one I just asked? I'll pay real close attention and try to udnerstand" Paven asured him with a nod. He wanted this doll's friendship. He really, really did.

"yes" Cal said after a moment and stood up as well. "Light would be nice." she glanced at the sun a bit worried but figured if she walked home quickly she should be fine. "Um...it was nice talking with you Kami, and I think Paven really enjoyed hanging out with Yoru, we'll have to do this agian soon"

Yoru paused for a moment again. It was not that he did not understand Paven’s question; he just was not sure how well it would work if he did say yes. He may not talk, but he smart enough to realize people had difficulty understanding those who did not communicate the same way, but Paven was doing rather well… He tilted his head to one side, like many times before. He reached up with one hand and began to play with his ear as he thought for the answer. He let go, and then slowly nodded. Sure.

Kami smiled slightly as she watched Yoru. He treated Paven completely different from the way he treated her… “It was nice talking to you, too, Cal. I think this was good for Yoru, and it looks like he’s enjoying himself. Yes, we will need to do this again.” Kami gave Cal the smile this time, and then started toward Yoru. Without warning (as usual) she plucked him up off the ground.

Yoru flailed slightly, but then he quickly stopped. Instead of just waving his arms around aimlessly, he began to slap the hands which held him. She was taking him away from something he was enjoying! He did not hit hard enough for Kami to really notice, though. Okay, he knew he could do this… It was just one letter difference in the pronunciation from his normal word, at least if he remembered right… “Pa!”

“A new syllable?” Kami looked down at her doll—the slightly upset doll. She was a bit surprised at it… So, does this mean that he likes Paven enough to yell out his first syllable, but he does not like her enough to yell out ‘ka’? Good thing Kami didn't really care much...

Paven grinned when Yoru agreed to awnser his questions. He was about to ask well a bunch when suddenly Yoru was grabed and taken into the air by Kami. Paven felt a deep stab of betrayal and hurt. Why was Kami taking away his friend? They were having fun? Paven opened his mouth to complain then suddenly Yoru spoke.

"He said my name!" Paven shouted instead. "Look Cal, Yoru said my name. I'm his friend!" he declared proudly. He felt he had acomplished something great by gaining Yoru's like. The doll didn't strike Paven as someone with alot of likes for some reason. Unlike Paven that like almsot everything.

"I geuss he did Paven" Cal said and reached down to pick him up, "But we need to go home" she explained, "The sun is going down and I don't want to walk home in the dark, we might get attacked or hurt by bad men" she explained, "So why don't you say good bye to Yoru. We will set up another play date soon Paven" Cal promised him, "You'll see Yoru again"

Paven frowned and looked up at Cal, "Promise?" eh asked slowly and was given a nod, "Okay" he said softly, "Bye Yoru" he waved, "I had LOTS of fun with you. I want to play again soon. Bye Kami it was really nice to see you again" Paven said, a hint of shyness comming into his voice. Kami was pretty.

"So I geuss we'll be going Kami" Cal said and slipped Paven into her purse. "Thanks for putting up wiht us" she added and waved to the woman and doll. "It was nice to see you again Yoru. You can play with Paven soon" she promised, as she turned to leave, walking quickly down the path, Paven standing as high as he could in her purse waving wildly.

The Aftermath - 06.18.06

Kami slowly crawled out of bed to her dresser. She had stayed up late the night before, unable to get Yoru to settle down. She yawned and rubber her eyes lazily and then started to get ready. She did not have work today, but Zac may pop up in her house today, and Kami did not want her friend to see her in a night shirt.

Yesterday Kami met Cal for Yoru and Paven’s play date. She was glad Yoru was happy afterwards, for he is much easier to deal with when he is not grumpy, but he did not have to go around babbling about ‘Pa’ and ‘Tsu’ the whole night. True, he may not have to sleep, but Kami had to. She needed to teach him that soon…

She had met with the landlord yesterday as well. She could not explain very well without Yoru (who was back at the apartment talking to himself), and she had difficulty talking without Zac there… Unfortunately, she had to call Cal and inform her that she did not get a clear answer. She only got Cal’s answering machine, at least, so she did not have to explain.

Kami made her way into the living room. Yoru was on the sofa, waiting for her like every morning. He was more hyper than usual, though, which Kami found rather annoying, especially when she could not understand his gibberish.

“Yoru, I’ll take you to see Paven again… Just please stop talking so much. I have a headache.” Kami hoped that Paven’s quick and constant way of talking had not rubbed off on Yoru. That would be terrible if he ever became a child… Then he would be able to keep her awake with something she could actually understand!

“Yes, I’ll call Cal back when I feel like it.” She plopped down on the catch next to the tiny doll, causing him to lose his balance and fall. He did not seem to care for some reason, though. If Kami had been completely awake, she would have found this very out of character… But she wasn’t, so she just reached for the controller and turned on the television. “Yeah, when I feel like it.”
