Higher and higher, straining more and more, the bronze was slowly catching up and a surge of pride gave him the gumption to continue. This queen was a sprightly one, her evasiveness making his blood run hot with the energy of a Flight.
So very close....

The bronze was getting tired, the chance was now on him!

The Queen wasn't sure how much longer she could hold on, her muscles aching and her body ready for that release that came with mating. She knew her rider must have been feeling the same way, both seeing through one another's eyes in each instant.

The bronze was straining now, his stamina starting to run out as he turned and tumbled and reached for the queen. She was being so tricky!

How much longer would this flight last? Surely the Queen must be ready to be caught by now, right? There had to be something that would slow her down further, allowing her to be caught!
The brown was not giving in! She would be his!

It would end soon with the Queen either being caught or giving in to those chasing her and simply selecting one. The blood she had taken in gave her no more energy and the proud gold knew this, her wings still moving her quickly but not carrying her fast enough.
Soon, soon the winner would be decided.

The bronze noticed the brown was somehow managing to catch up, possessed of more determination then he expected. Snapping and grumbling at the brown, he tried to posture and intimidate the other while maintaining the chase with the queen. It didn't work so well and he fell a further behind the queen much to his chagrin.

Yes, yes! his unwillingness to give up seemed to be what kept him moving even against the weariness that leaked over him, and the brown was surprised to find himself at the same level of speed and position as the bronze that had spent so long before him.
If he somehow managed to get this, then...it would be a good day indeed.

Somehow managing a second burst of energy to get away, the Queen spun upward in a spiral that shook off even more of those who dared to keep in this flight. Her body was glowing to a point of being blinding now, her hide radiant in the sun.
Soon, very soon.

Good, her spiral had caught them off guard! The Queen managed to pull even further ahead, though the distance was not nearly as great as it had once been.

Still flying strong, the Queen turned her head a bit to see whom was left. Out of these beasts would be the one that ultiately caught her, so she was a little curious.
That didn't last very long though and she looked ahead once more, going into another climb.
