Getting to Know Central

It wasn’t every day you got to move to a new city after your previous one blows up, Sarah had to keep reminding herself, consider yourself lucky.
The new town was almost surreal, now that she was able to think about. The place itself was huge, and she made it her goal to know as much about it as she could by the end of the week.
She was very cautious in how she handled getting her information, though. Asking people discreetly where a few things were, and eavesdropping whenever she could to see if there was anything she really needed to know about the place. The citizens of the city were very closely-knit, however, and that made all of her eavesdropping rather difficult in human form. That’s why on this particular hour in Eastern Commerce, a very small Abyssinian cat prowled the area.

It was frightening how much some of the people in this city hated cats, though. The girl had been following a group of people for a while, noticing that they were very lenient on hiding anything they were talking about.
They had already discussed a few areas she had yet to see, and one she probably would have to steer clear from. Central Quarters was the name of it, she remembered. It was supposedly a steel fortress of government buildings and an entire army of suits guarding the place almost constantly. She was curious of if there was anything of interest there, but not curious enough to go risking her life to see it, at least for now. There was also talk of the group wandering into Oldpeka for a ‘good time’—Sarah was going to avoid gathering information there, that place looked like a barren wasteland and the warrior girl Ashlyn had already mentioned that there were probably mutants there.

Before she had any more time to scoop up the information they were so generous with, one of the girls started whispering to a male member of the group about the cat’s strange presence.
“That little thing?” The boy said to the other group member, looking back and giving Sarah a long, hard glare, apparently wanting that to be a warning. The godling was a little too stubborn to take the hint and kept walking.
“Get rid of it, it’s creepy!” The girl in the group squealed back. The boy rolled his eyes, grabbing the cat by the back of the neck and holding her at eye-level. Before he had a chance to react Sarah had already lashed out at him, hitting the boy with a barrage of scratches and hisses before he tossed her out into the street.

Well, that was a bust. Sarah picked herself up and shook off the pain of getting tossed. At that moment, a larger cat approached her.
“Master, you shouldn’t go up to the humans like that, they get angry.”
“Eh, I was just a little—“ Sarah started, then stopped abruptly. “—Wait, I can talk to you?” When did that happen? Oh right, she was still a cat. “You know what, nevermind,” She told the larger cat. “Is there anything you can tell me about this city?”
The cat paused. “Of course, Miss.”

Well, this wasn’t going to be as bad as she thought.
