Salin hesitated, apparently re-evaluating the situation, and maybe Viskal a bit. He still couldn't say he actively -liked- the boy, but maybe the Benden healers had taken him less seriously for being Hold Born... if they were paying enough attention to know who came from where. Salin could hardly say he didn't stand out to some degree in even a crowded hallway, so there was a chance Viskal knew something significant...
Or he could just be pulling his leg, or just have noticed something anyone from the Weyr would take for granted.
"Like what?" He asked hesitantly.

If Viskal was enjoying pulling Salin’s leg though, he was doing a very good job of hiding his glee, for he only looked vaguely agitated when he spoke. “They’ve had me doing some chores for the healers,” he gave slowly. “Just some fetch and step, but a few days ago I was bringing some rolls to the healer’s rooms-“ He would have spat on them if he’d been that petty. “-and I overheard a couple of their riders. They were talking about doing whatever they’re up to here at Malvren too. I don’t know what that means, rightly, but I don’t think they would have been that excited if they were just going to ferry healers and spend so much time away from their home weyr.” His brow furrowed worriedly, but it didn’t help him decipher the mystery. It was a paltry bit of information really, but he was hoping to mention it here and there until rumor grasped it and spread if over the weyr. It wasn’t enough to report to a higher-up, but if suspicion found its way into the wings maybe those at Malvren would take extra care toward Benden. Or perhaps not. He shrugged at Salin, looking uncertain for the first time.

"...One of the healers said something about 'just getting it over with" Salin added, in measured tones. "But I didn't catch what." This was clearly an issue of frustration. "Something about their queens too. I got the impression they weren't doing as well. They were pretty on edge."
It wasn't much more information, but it did -seem- to confirm that they were up to something, though then again it might just have been something to do with their observations of the eggs.

Viskal frowned unhappily. Not at Salin – but rather at the other scanty piece of information. Get it over with? Maybe they were giving up and moving on to Malvren. Maybe they were going to have to get over their hatred of atypicals – though why they would want to do that was beyond him. Maybe related to whatever condition their queens were in? Or maybe it was none of that and the stinking healers were just talking about going to brave the angry crimson to eye her clutch. “Is that all?” he asked half rhetorically, wincing.
He still didn’t much care for Salin, but he was relieved by their temporary truce over the events here. He wouldn’t ever expect a friendship out of the older boy, but he was pleased that he felt the other Candidate’s information was valid. Had he been lying, he would have come up with something much more grandiose than vague half sentences. If only there was more information though! He had little faith in the stable, picturesque world where riders and holds worked in harmonic cooperation. People were too erratic in nature for that. He would have backed a conspiracy if only there were a consistent one that made use of facts. “Anything in particular about those flits set you off? Or just their numbers?”

"No, just their behavior." Definitely an uneasy truce, but a truce never the less. It was better than nothing. "One of them flew up while they were talking, stayed for a few moments, then popped between. Then they glared at me and scampered off like a pair of tunnel snakes caught in the eggs."
He couldn't think of a better way to describe it. He was just a candidate so they could have probably told -him- to shard off, but they hadn't. That was part of what had bothered him about their behavior.

Viskal made a thoughtful noise and looked down, taking a moment to swiftly tuck away his tools and think privately for a moment. There just wasn’t enough information to act on yet. “I’ll take your advice about watching for those flits,” he said and flipped the unfinished belt over his shoulder, starting to get up.

Salin nodded, he wasn't sure what else to say, since he wasn't sure that he felt quite charitable enough yet to wish the other boy luck, or at least not wish him luck and mean it, so he added the only courtesy he could immediately think of. "Good luck with your belt."
And moved along himself. Things were busy after all, there was a lot to do before the hatching.
