Zetshimaru believes the name yanmega is similar to how there are many animals that have ancestors that just have the word mega in it.
For example one of the earliest bears is now called Mega-Bear, or another example is the Mega-loin.
Edit: Pip is also a stage of a birds life. Plup could be the sound effect of a rain drop. (Zetshimaru is working from the bottom up)
Edit2: Zetshimaru is going to disagree with the regis. The legend in pokemon says that regigigas was worshiped as a god, and the trio was also since gigas made the trio in gigas' own image. So Zetshimaru did some searching and found that regius is Latin for royal.

methuselah.alchemist Those are cool! Awesome that you did all of them almost! ^-^ On another site, we went through the dex and tried to do that once. Let me try to remember what some of the ones you didn't have were when we tried. Bidoof: Beaver and Doofus Rotom: Motor backwards Buizel: Bouey and Weasel Uxie: ??? and Pixie Azelf: Azure(blue) and Elf Manaphy: Mana and ??? Arceus: Arc and Zeus And for Mew and Mewtwo, I thought it was because they're cats, and that's the sound kittens make. Awsome, thanks a bunch! l'll be sure to add those!
I must agree that your explanation for Mew is probably the more correct explanation. The reason I put Mutant was because when you think about it. Mew2 is a genetically altered Mew. (Mutant) And mew is the ancestor of all pokemon. (And if you toke a science class you'd know new species are made by genetic mutations. But then again maybe I'm looking to deeply into it. sweatdrop )

I have all the regis. And trust me, I don't remember anything in the pokedex about regis meaning royalty. Although I should have been suspicious of regicide because there was nothing in the dex about them killing a king either. xD What eves.

For Kyogre and Groudon (Two of my favorite legends) you have the meanings of Kai and Don messed up. Kai maens water and Don means Lord or King.

Or an elephant that does. Doing+ elephant a stubborn elephant that never quits and is relentless once it has it's mind set on something. and anyone it it's way will be trampled by it's strong ambition. basically the elephant's big feet . which makes more since? my first one or second one.

For Staravia, the second part of it's name comes from 'Avian", or bird-like. :3
Oooh, and for Salamence, I think the second part of his name is from 'immense', cuz he's so big.
edit: Well, looking at Salamence's Pokedex entry, maybe not. XP How is it possible that I'm taller than a dragon?! What's with these dragon-like Pokemon being so short?! Craziness. DX Unless they're measured at the shoulder like dogs... That'd be a more dragon-ish height.
