"Nah, don't worry about it," Hayes waved off the embarrassed apology. "That's just 1337. Bet you wanted a look at his gear." His glasses had slipped down while he walked; hands free now, the blond nudged them back into position and grinned at Faleen. From what he knew, her priorities were about the same as his.
Well, this was disappointing. She was summoning books this time. Maybe the appearance of cake only happened under the right conditions. Sensing inevitable geekery, the Pikachu shifted position on Hayes' shoulder and flicked his tail.
It had been a while since he'd seen those volumes, but they were instantly recognized. "Oh yeah? Thanks," the agent smiled as he reached out to take them from her, following it up with "So what'd you think?" It was genuine interest, even as Switch yawned and began to clean his paws.

Mouth closed as a blush once again crept on her face at his correct assumption as to why she was talking to 1337, surprised she was that easy to read. But what else would she be doing something. And as he said, he knew… did he say 1337?
“Yeah” she added with a small sheepish grin “and he seemed willing to show it off… is his name seriously 1337?” she asked, with a perplexed blink. Why was she… not really that surprised?
Smiling again when the books were returned to their original owner, feeling bad for keeping them as long as she had, this was a relief.
“I quite enjoyed them, though I won’t lie, the book about AI was particularly challenging to understand sometimes,” she lifted the notebook with her notes on it. “References, notes and research, though more commonly are questions. I spent a lot of time on it, it felt good.” Letting out a deep sigh, but one that was joined with a genuine smile, she had truly enjoyed what she had learned, it felt good, even if it was difficult.

"He's pretty proud of it," the programmer agreed, cradling the books against his side with one arm. He shifted to a casual, relaxed stance, his weight all on one leg. "It's some sort of touchless keycorder hooked up to that visor. And probably not, but y'know." Hayes shrugged, with a little half-smile. There were worse codenames. "It works."
"You liked them?" Hayes' grin grew and he sounded genuinely pleased to hear she'd enjoyed the textbooks. "They're pretty good intro, but a couple parts aren't as great. I've got some others that do a better job than these." He shifted the well-read volumes for emphasis.
"Y'know. If you're interested," he added with a slightly sheepish grin. "You talked to Seth yet?"

“I can’t blame him; I’ve had my fare share of projects that I’ve been quite proud of” That much she could relate to anyway. After Hayes made clear what his dear was, she remembered the typing movement that 1337 had been doing, it made sense, and that was quite impressive, she’s never seen something like that used before.
“I very much enjoyed them, thank you again for letting me borrow them for so long.” Her eyebrows perked up a little more at the mention of other books that he had. “So then you have titles to recommend? I would be interested in taking a look at those as well.”
And then mention of talking to Seth lowered her eyebrows again, and she gave a meek, almost uncertain smile of her own at his sheepish grin.
“I hadn’t gotten the chance to ask him before I was put on probation after that mission” she told him “I hadn’t dared give it thought since then.” Him saying that though just clawed at her chest, at how badly she would want to work in this field…. And it made her consider if maybe asking would be okay.
