Seth looked visibly annoyed, but this was not an uncommon occurrence. Thus it was difficult to say what exactly was getting on his nerves. Probably a conglomeration of things. For one the fact that security had been tightened. While it was understandably necessary, it was still inconvenient for him. Then there was the fact that he didn't exactly have a high opinion of Allen. He wasn't exactly looking forward to talking with that man again.

Seth was not unfamiliar with the surroundings as the proceeded further into the labs. Although some things had changed a bit and his scrutinizing gaze was still passing around, taking in every detail to judge exactly how well things were going in Nadja's renovations.

However, Nyx's squeal gazed his gaze to turn down towards her in an unveiled glare.

"I've heard that one before." Seth replied to the speculation of the clone being more docile than usual. His tone implying that he wasn't at all convinced.

Though the low hum of machinery saturated all areas of the labs, this room was alive with the processes monitoring and maintaining the half-grown clones too volatile for the standard containment tanks. Monitors blinked and tubes fed chemical drips into reinforced metal crates, whose narrow slits offered little view of their contents.

"Possibilities, not promises," Nadja told Seth, then turned her attention to the scientist with neatly parted hair and glasses who was approaching them.

"Good, good, you're here. Nyx, keep an eye on the monitors, thank you," Allen acknowledged them, and that was the extent of his pleasantries before he got down to business.

"There are a few ways to proceed, but in all honesty the best approach is a gradual one, sir." The scientist paused to look at the taller man while he adjusted his glasses - he spoke to the two elites equally, but mostly to the air between them. Seth's priorities differed from his own, and the elite's attitude during previous sessions left Allen with a sour view of the man. "Short sessions of nonviolent interaction - five minutes, maybe, to start with - would acclimate the clone to your presence and lay the groundwork for anything else we decided to try."

"That's one option. The rest are on a continuum - we can add in psychic mediation, endorphin level controls.. all the way up to forging a permanent linkage between you two, although that would be an absolute last resort. Basic interaction would be most advisable to do first." He paused to see how that went over.

As Allen went over the various options in a cursory fashion, Nadja watched the interaction between the two men, eyes shifting slightly from one to the other.

"Yes'sir!" Nyx almost skipped over to the monitors. The only thing that could ruin her good mood now was if that beast-clone got loose and slaughtered half the base; And even then, only if it were the half she liked. If only Allen could be in as good a mood. Nyx had heard some rumors, and even, on rare occasion, a rant from the man himself, about how much he did not like Elite Agent Seth.

It wasn't like she could blame Allen, though. It seemed to her that the Elite was all work and no play, and she remembered a movie where that situation led to making a man a dull boy and then go on a killing spree. Hopefully reality would not imitate fiction in this case.

Nyx kept careful watch of the monitors. Everything seemed normal for the moment, which was expected, since they weren't really doing anything yet. She kept her ears open to what the higher-ups were saying, however.

And the reason why Allen disliked Seth so much would become apparent in the next moment.

As Seth listened to the man speak, he leered down at him with crossed arms and a frown. Once he was finished, the elite snorted in disgust.

"In other words, you were unable to fix the source of the problem. And now you want me to train him to be a good boy so as cover up your incompetence."

Blue eyes now narrowed at Allen dangerously.

"I expected results and in a timely manner. Don't think I didn't read the reports! The original was obedient and perfect in almost every way. Yet I'm getting stuck with a defect?!"

This was less than promising.

Off to the side, Nadja took on a patient expression as she waited out the tirade. A muscle in Allen's jaw tightened as he was berated, and there was a pause before he replied.

"With respect, sir, we've been operating at a significant disadvantage this entire time. Most of the information was lost along with the original, or destroyed when the organization went under. We've had to reconstruct the process from a handful of reasearch notes, filling in the gaps with the work on Dark Pokemon, which are known to be more aggressive-"

He paused for breath, Adam's apple bobbing, and Nadja's smooth tones cut in. "Thank you, Allen." (With a sharply implied 'That will be all.') The redhead took a step forward, enough to interrupt the space between the two men, and half-angled herself toward Seth. "We scheduled a meeting," she pointed out, "not a shouting match."

Behind her, the scientist subsided to a sullen, glowering figure.

Seth just snorted at Allen's excuses, which were just that. Nothing more than excuses. And obviously there was no ounce of actual respect in the scientist's tone, it was just an obligatory statement.

The elite narrowed his eyes at Allen, until Nadja suddenly blocked his view. He replied to her statement with a huff and nothing more. He would not apologize for his behavior for it was warranted as far as Seth was concerned.

Looking to the red head, Seth practically wrote off the fact that Allen was even in existence as he spoke to her. "I have little time or patience for the gradual approach. Tell me more about the alternatives." This spoken in an even tone. This woman was at least intelligent, and competent, from what he could gather. Unlike Allen.

"The alternatives are considerably more radical-" Allen started, only to stop when he realized his position as spokesperson had been usurped. "..." The overhead light flashed off the scientist's glasses, obscuring his narrowed eyes as he turned. You could almost see the little storm cloud over his head as he gathered up his dignity and strode towards Nyx, expression dark.

"How is it?" he asked the grunt, more sharply than he probably meant to, adding in a mutter too low for the elites to hear, "Oafish brute. What does he expect me to do, clap my hands over the petri dish and chant 'I believe in reproducible results?'"

Nadja looked up at the taller elite. "Don't provoke my staff when they're on duty, Seth," she requested, then continued on in unruffled tones, with a hint of her business smile as she laid out the options. "Allen is unfortunately correct when he says that replicating the original process would take time - more of it than you would find tolerable, as it would likely require genius-caliber insight or field agents to ferret out more documents."

"Effective training is not necessarily slow, and without a perfect clone, some measure of it is required." The redhead canted her head to the side and studied Seth, measuring the man and his words against some undisclosed metric. "However, a unidirectional psychic link might bypass a good portion of it, as well as provide other benefits."

"It's something we've been considering, but it's experimental technology and current studies are limited to considerably lesser Pokemon. There's a high risk of unforeseen side effects and you would be down here at least once a week for some time." Nadja rested a hand on her hip. "If we're going to go around modifying your brain functions I want to keep an eye on you."

Nyx chuckled silently at Allen's comment as she looked between a couple of monitors.
"All within acceptable norms, sir." She smiled as him and added so that only he could hear. "I'll get my wizard hat, sir." It was unfortunate that most people who weren't in the science department didn't realize or care that most things took time. Lots of time. Stupid amounts of time.

What was this about modifying Seth's brain? That sounded dangerous... and highly intriguing! Maybe fiddling around in there would make the guy loosen up. She shrugged at her own internal dialogue, she would just go ahead with the slow process of training and working with the beast, but that was just her.

"What kind of effect do you think this will have, Sir?" She looked up briefly at Allen.

Seth possibly enjoyed tormenting Allen, for the man smirked a bit as the other walked away in his frustration. However, that smirk dropped at Nadja's request, and he tilted his gaze towards her to determine if she was being serious or not. After a moment the tall elite closed his eyes and turned his head away in a "Hmph."

He listened silently as she continued, but not without adding a jabbing comment or two of course. "I suppose the former is too much to ask for." Seth muttered, opening his eyes again to stare at the backs of Allen and Nyx as they whispered among themselves. It didn't take a genius to know what they were likely talking about in hushed tones. But he left them be and turned his attention towards Nadja.

Pokemon training was naturally not a foreign concept to him. However, taming a Pokemon whose aggressive tendencies surpassed that of his Steelix (and is considerably more destructive), would take more time if it was to be completely obedient. Of course Nadja's words were correct and he silently acknowledged that. But the thought of them messing with his head was not exactly ideal either. However... if it produced the results he was looking for, and more, it might be worth it.

"What kind of benefits?" Was his question when she finished speaking. Seemingly ignoring the fact that there would be unforeseen side effects.

It was hard to tell whether she was being serious or not. Nadja always seemed to be amused by something when she interacted with Seth, and this meeting was no different.

"Would that we all had your intellect. It would make my job considerably different," the redhead acknowledged, with what could be a gracious smile if you missed the slight crease at the corners of her eyes.

"Good, good," Allen replied absentmindedly; his mind was not so much on the clone as the slight he'd just received. He busied himself with the monitors, making a slight humming noise, but when Seth looked away he watched the two elites closely. Nyx's wizard hat comment garnered a slight smile. "Who knows," he muttered to his underling. "He shot all the reasonable suggestions out of the water." After a pause, he added thoughtfully, "Might get himself killed."

He didn't sound too opposed to the idea.

To himself: "Of course he talks to the management type."

"The clone's actions would be dependent upon your thoughts and intentions, and therefore your presence. If you lost consciousness or were separated beyond the link's range, it would become completely unresponsive." Nadja's gaze traveled to the huge metal crate. "It would - no, could - obey only you, supposedly rendering theft useless. We'd prefer to avoid that aspect of the original."

"Since autonomous thought hasn't been completely extinguished, you might experience backlash. The link is one way, but a powerful psychic might override that. You might have headaches, impaired cognitive function, hallucinations, and possibly brain hemorrhage leading to death." Nadja tilted her head to look up at the other elite, pearl drops dangling. "We really don't know. You'd be a test subject."

Nyx watched the screens and kept her ears focused on the two Elites. Possible death? Test subject? Very interesting! She would try to pay more attention to Seth, take her own notes, get some samples if he keeled over. This would be very exciting!

Seth raised his brow at Nadja's remark. That could be taken in different ways, but he allowed an amused smirk to grace his features once more. "If your department had even half our intellect, the entire organization would be better off." This purposely said loud enough for the two whisperers nearby to hear.

The elite then quieted again as the other went on to explain the benefits and other conditions of this... alternative. He was silent for a few moments as he mulled over this information and weighed his options. Despite the obvious risks, Seth knew that this would work to his favor in more ways than one should it succeed.

That smirk of his persisted as he gave his answer. "Then let's go with the alternative." As much as he didn't care for being a guinea pig of sorts, to him it was well worth it.

"You flatter me." Another ambiguous smile for another ambiguous statement, and no hint as to whether she agreed with him or not. With Seth's decision, the redhead's brows rose, and there was a subtle change in the angle of her chin as she considered the other elite for a moment. Willing to risk dire consequences to reach a goal. Hm.

It was something between brave and stupid.

"Does she ever smile this much at staff meetings?" It was a rhetorical question couched in a sneer. Allen hadn't been a happy camper from the moment Seth spoke to him, and seeing his boss get along with the source of his ire was one more insult. The scientist huffed, turning away from the scene with an overly dramatic swirl of his lab coat. "Nyx, I need a distraction."

"This will give us some interesting data," Nadja was saying. "I'm glad we've reached a decision." Then, raising her voice to carry across the spacious room, she called, "Allen, we won't be needing it today."
PostPosted: Sun Jul 18, 2010 6:39 pm

"Well," Nyx smiled as she checked three different monitors, "You'll have a distraction soon, sir, there's some increased neurological activity. I think its waking up." It was times like these, Nyx wished she had a helmet. She wasn't afraid of the specimen in question, but was slightly concerned about something maybe falling on her head. Her brain was an investment, like a hand model's hands.

Whether brave or stupid, it made sense in Seth's mind and that was good enough for him. Although his interests did not involve in helping them get data. This decision was for his benefit alone.

"Indeed," Seth replied in response to the fact that they had reached a decision. "What's the first step?"

However, the conversation would be interrupted as a low growl resonated from the large metal crate. The beast was indeed awakening.

Seth's attention snapped towards the crate. Not this again. "What the hell is going on?" Wasn't that thing supposed to be sedated? They were doing one hell of a poor job with that.
