User ImageGodric nodded his head in agreement with her wise observation. It was all very true. But most wouldn't risk their life trying to make a new friend or lover. Sunshine was very different then the Soquili that he kept company with. Her positivity and purity was like a breath of fresh air in the polluted life he lived. "You are one of the first," That Godric knew of, at least. He couldn't remember if anybody had tried showing him courtesy when he wasn't in control of himself. But then, they wouldn't have been around long enough afterwards for him to know. Godric's smile wavered for just a moment as he recalled how lucky they both were at his full stomach. Something told him that not meeting Sunshine would have been something he would have lost in life. A moment like this was special, and didn't come often in life. Godric revered in it.
He listened to her speak about her past with healing. His deep green eyes watched as her sadness appeared yet again. Something bad had happened with her village. That much was already clear to him. Just what? She couldn't have been banished, her place in the village as healer, and her personality just didn't speak 'shun me from this tribe'. Just as Godric was ready to open his mouth and ask what had happened, Sunshine asked him a question.
My cat form? "Would you like to see?" Godric smirked, taking off into the woods before she could reply. The transformation process was rather painful looking, and he had no intent on letting her see it. The Snow leopard pelt upon his back stretched down around him, and he felt his bones bend and snap into place. His teeth shrunk and then lengthened into sharp points. A beastly hiss escaped his throat when his transformation was complete. Looking around himself, Godric spotted the fireflies that had surrounded them through the trees. His eyes zeroed in on each firefly. The increased eyesight that his eyes offered him in this form almost always left him with a headache. Everything was sharper, and he took note of every motion. Crouching down in position, he crawled forward towards where he had left her. Not wanting to scare her, he purred just before making way through the brush that surrounded her.
He took note at how the top of his head came up to almost the top of her thigh. His height was above average in this form. It made hunting all the easier. His green eyes glowed in the lighting the fireflies offered them. While he couldn't talk in this form, Godric tilted his head to the side, wondering what she thought.

She nodded and would have spoke, but Godric dissapeared from her sight so quickly that she would have been speaking to empty air. It was rather alarming the speed at which he just seemed to vanish and Sunshine was throughly grateful that Godric hadn't been in the mood to hunt her this night. While the fluffy coated mare could, and had, defended herself against many a hungry predator in the mountains, she had never encountered one who could move so quickly and silently, despite the bulk being moved. A form so large should make some sort of noise, though if it were something that needed to hunt for its meals, silence would be of utmost importance. Still...A shudder twitched over her skin at just how dangerous Godric was and could be if he so chose. But thankfully he chose to be throughly plesant company. Company which the mare was enjoying.

She heard noises in the forest and hoped it was Godric and not some other predator come to try its luck now that the stallion had dissapeared. Head high and ears perked forward, she heard purring before a lean, grey feline form slid into view from beneath the foliage. "Oh!" She couldn't help the exclaimation of surprise, nor the slight shuffle of her hooves as she shifted in place. Now she recognized where she'd seen the pattern of coat now. She'd seen felines like that up in the mountains, with coats just as thick as her own to combat the thick snow that fell. Seen at a distance in the mountains, since the cats had never ventured into the village and she'd kept her distance when she'd spotted one while outside the village.

"You're not much bigger than the felines that hunted the mountains around the village." She said as she lowered her head to touch noses with him, snuffling the grey fur lightly. Not knowing how much of a feline's instincts had control, hopefully she didn't get a faceful of claws for her curiousity.

His mind felt different in this form. If anything, it was more aware of, well, everything. He noticed the pause in between each breath she took, his ears picked up the steady pace of her heart beat. His green eyes took in the way that the forest's wind ruffled the fur on his back and legs, and how her mane danced in the breeze. He rarely went into this form when he was aware. Godric enjoyed the slowness of life that being 'normal' offered.
Godric's purr deepened into a low but happy growl when she reached down to touch noses with him. Sunshine's nose felt warm against his own. He opened his mouth to speak, but was reminded of his inability by a yowl. Turning his back to the mare, he glanced towards her once more, before taking back off into the darkness of the trees. When he was far enough away, his bones cracked and grew back into place. His skin stretched across his muscles as his body grew and adjusted back into his original form. Taking a deep breath of air when it was all over, Godric turned back to find Sunshine again.
It didn't take him long. His entrance wasn't as nearly frightening as it might have been before when he appeared as a walker. He offered Sunshine a smile. "They are my favorite breed of predator. Or, at least they were." Godric almost flinched. It had been awhile since he had thought back to his past life. Snow leopards, thats what they were called. They had been beautiful. Peaceful, yet dangerous. They were Godric's favorite to hunt.

"The path that life has made for me is quite Ironic." Godric spoke, glancing down at Sunshine. "But let's not speak of that now." he smiled, nodding his head towards the direction of the lake. "Shall we continue?"

She couldn't help but giggle as his mouth opened but only a feline yowl escaped. Eyes crinkling with her laughter, she would have spoken again but he dissapeared into the underbrush again. "Gods" She breathed, straightening back up. She tossed her head to flip back the locks of hair that had fallen into her face, watching the dark patch of brush where Godric had dissapeared into. If anything, he was faster in his feline form than his equine form.

She was so engrossed in her musings on the speed of felines and equines that she didn't hear him approaching. As such, she couldn't help but jolt in surprise as he came back into view. "Oh. That was fast." She said, blinking at him as he spoke of ironies, head tilting. "They can still be your favorite predator. Even if you can turn into one." Her ears flicked back and forth before settling in a perked up position. Blue eyes blinked a few times before they settled on him for a long moment, expression unreadable. "I think they're beautiful, but I respect them as a predator as well." Sunshine said softly before a wide smile curved her lips. "Yes, let's continue on. I'd like to see the lake by the moonlight." She moved up next to him, tail brushing the grasses as she looked up at him.

Godric offered Sunshine a smile in return. The Skinwalker would have to admit, he knew that he was stalling. At almost every chance, he would stop just to chat with her- to elongate the short time that they would have together. It had been too long since he'd last had someone just to have a civil conversation with. It was refreshing. "Then let us go," He spoke, making way ahead of her. They walked in silence for a short while, Godric keeping mostly to his own thoughts. For an odd reason, the silence around them wasn't awkward, as it normally would be between two strangers. The sound of the forests nocturnal creatures surrounded them, with the whispers of a breeze.

"It would be foolish to underestimate one," Godric mentioned, glancing over his shoulder at the mare behind him. "One of those big cats, I mean. It is how I got this scar," he murmured, pausing in step to show her his front leg. It had been one of his first scars. He was still young, and careless. The predator had proved to be more than he could handle. While it had landed a few good blows, Godric had gotten away in the end, beaten up but with his life. "I don't believe that it attacked me for no reason. I was young, and had accidentally stumbled upon it's cave. They're territorial, as I'm sure you know." Godric had found that out the hard way.

Sunshine followed the stallion as he moved ahead on the path, but didn't let him get too far ahead. Not that she worried about losing him or having him leave her behind. It would just be rude to walk too far away incase he wanted to start a conversation again. And he seemed to be very keen on starting up conversations whenever he could. Not that she minded and she could very much understand his desire for conversation. Being what he was couldn't have made social encounters very frequent or pleasant.

They walked in companionable silence, with the sounds of the night and whispers of their own footsteps filling the quiet. She continued to glance around her at the forest, catching a glimpse of an owl swooping through the trees at one point. So much life around them, even when it was so dark. In the mountains, this time of night was when one would be asleep in a shelter or hiding from those that hunted the dark and the cold. There was no wildlife and noone was outside unless absolutely necessary. The lowlands were so different.

She glanced up at him as he spoke, breaking the silence with his words. Stepping up close, she peered at the scars he showed her on his leg, humming slightly before tilting her head up at him. "One should never underestimate any predator. Your life would easily be forfeit for such a thing." She flicked an ear back and blinked. "You're lucky to have gotten away alive. Life rarely is forgiving in such circumstances." She murmured, snorting softly and recalling her first encounter with the snowy predators.

"I had been returning from a neighboring village when I met my first spotted cat." She fell silent, thoughtful before she continued. "It was snowing and I didn't see it until I'd almost stepped on it. Though it didn't attack me. We stood there in the snow for what seemed like forever, just watching each other. Well, it watched me. I stood there petrified that it would attack me." She gave a chuckle at that, eyes sparkling. "Then it just...left, dissapearing back up the mountain and into the snowfall." The mare paused, shoulders giving a slight shrug. "Life spared me my inattention kindly that day. I was much more alert whenever I was outside from then on since I might not have been so lucky the second time."

"That is a rare occurrence, Indeed." His green eyes blinked slowly. It was a beautiful story. He couldn't imagine something like that ever happening to him. After the fight that he had gotten into with his first leopard, he hadn't made the same mistakes. He was always more aware of what was around him. The hunted had turned into the hunter. Something in Sunshine's story had struck Godric as funny, when he made a realization.
"This must be history repeating itself," Godric found humor in some of what life had offered him. She had made him, a predator, aware of her presents, but instead of attacking, he had yielded. Once they reach the lake, he would part from her, leaving her be as she was before.
Godric's eyes glowed in the night as he stared at her. "That is what's going to happen, right?" His smile grew and turned into something more dangerous. Yet, it wasn't hunger that he felt, there was still something that had dug its way into his mind. It burned its way through his veins, though before he could act out, Godric turned away. Taking a shaking breath in, he shook his head from side to side. It took a little longer than it probably should have for him to collect himself. He felt embarrassed when he finally turned his attention back to Sunshine. Taking a deep, calming breath in, Godric apologized. "I am sorry, I'm not sure what just came over me." He hadn't felt something like that before, and he wasn't interested in discovering exactly what it was. Especially with his current company. Closing his eyes, he concentrated on his breathing once more, hoping that she would answer the question he had asked before he'd lost himself. He had no claim over her, and wasn't sure that he would want any. He was smart enough to understand that the life that he lived was not one that would be comfortable for a mare like Sunshine. She needed positivity and happiness in her life, somethings that Godric wouldn't always be able to offer her. Them parting would be the best- for the two of them.
Godric repeated this to himself over and over again. It would be foolish and cruel to obsess.

She watched him with her head tilted slightly to the side, frowning. "I had rather hoped we could be friends." She said, voice wistful as she watched him. "I don't have many friends...well, I don't have any here at all. It would be nice to have someone who I can talk to, who knows the area..." She trailed off as his eyes started to glow like emeralds in the smoky fur of his face. Sunshine frowned, looking worried, more so as he turned away from her. "Are you alright? Did changing forms so quickly make you ill?" She stepped around him to try and look him in the face, frowning with worry.

When he turned back around once more, she gave him a dubious look. "Are you sure you're feeling well?" She asked him again, still looking worried. She stepped up next to him and nosed him cautiously, ears tilted back slightly and face pinched looking. It was because of her that he changed forms. And if he was feeling ill because of it, it was her fault, which worried her dreadfully. Not a good way to keep a potential friend around, making them ill.

Godric took in another lung full of air. That's one way to think of it. His head drooped, as he continued to find himself. "I am sorry," He repeated. "I'm not used to being mentally aware when... I change. That must be it," His eyes closed when she touched him. When was the last time that he had been touched like this? There was no dark intent behind it. Opening his eyes again, his sharp green eyes pierced her own. "You should not worry. I will be fine." Shaking his head once more, he thought back to what she was saying before he had... lost his head.
Friends? The sensitive part of Godric wished that it could be true. He struggled with the thought. He knew that he would never be able to live close to her. Hunger struck at the worst of times, and he didn't want to be close enough to find her when he was uncontrolled.
But when times he was full, after a hunt, he'd be able to talk to her just as he was doing right now. It had to be possible.
"That would be dangerous, you know." Godric looked down at the mare who walked by his side. "I wouldn't want to hurt you." His mind wandered. "If you wanted... to make this work, you could never try to find me." He didn't want her finding him in an unfit state. "You would have to wait for me, to find you." He offered her what he hoped looked like a hopeful smile.

She exhaled softly in relief that it wasn't something more serious, breath ruffling the fur of his pelt softly. Leaning against him briefly, she gave a soothing, almost purring noise low in her throat. "I'm glad it's not more serious. Though if I had known that changing forms like that made you ill, I would not have wondered about it." She said, frowning before giving him a brillant smile when he said not to worry. "I shall worry. But not right now since you're fine and it's in the past." She said, tail flicking and rustling the grass behind then.

"If I worried about danger, I would have stayed in my cave in the mountains and never come out again." She laughed, nudging him playfully. Her playfully faded slightly, but was still there in the glitter in her eyes. "I don't think you would hurt me. You're too considerate and careful for that. But no, I wouldn't go find you if you didn't want me to." Sunshine gave him another playful nudge, smiling. "But you better visit me often. I'm enjoying our conversation so much I might have to seek you out if you don't come see me."

"It was really no problem. My body is usually in a more furried state when I transform. There are few, and far between, times when I willingly turn into that state." It wasn't necessarily that Godric didn't enjoy being in his 'Cat walker form'. While it served well for finding him a good meal, it increased the intensity of a few of his more dangerous emotions- which made it more difficult to turn back after everything. Godric can hardly remember once, when he willingly turned back into his Soquili form. His body usually had to wait for sleep to overcome it before it changed over. Godric's body tensed in warning when Sunshine leaned against him. The predator inside wasn't used to nonthreatening touches, and he almost instinctually flinched at the contact. The other side of him enjoyed the rare feeling of a living creature. Sunshine's body carried a warmth about it that slowly, but surely, allowed him to coax his body into relaxing. The sound of her purring, caused his own focal cords to respond in similar tone. Almost teasinly, the male nudged her face with his nose, his own purr deepening.
"Then, I am glad that you found the courage to make it out here. If you had not, I doubt that I would have ever made your aquaitence, Sunshine." And if he had, almost any other way, it probably wouldn't have been pretty. Godric continued to listen to her speak. He wished that the day would never come- where he could lash out in hunger towards her. Though she helped him believe that it wouldn't ever come to that between them. "I would surely try not to." Godric's eyes closed momentarily, until she nudged him. A smile was brought upon his face at her next words. "Why, of course I will. You are the only... friend that I possess. You mean more to me than you will ever know, Sunshine." And part of him meant every word. The other part, Godric would try to keep hidden away from her for as long as he could.
PostPosted: Thu Aug 26, 2010 4:51 pm

Leaning against him was soothing and she sighed softly, feeling his warmth and the strength he held in check. She didn't realize how much she missed the touch of another. In her village, one was always touching and being touched, both for comfort and just to know where someone was. It was always funny to watch a stranger come into their midst and be so jumpy about the whole thing. She hadn't been close to anyone since the tragedy.

She hummed and let her eyes shut, leaning into him as he rumbled a purr in return. It wasn't safe, she could tell, hearing the predator that rolled just beneath the surface. But for the moment, it was soothed and quiet. But the mare would never forget that this male next to her, who could change shapes swifter than the blink of an eye, could tear her to pieces so easily. "I'm glad to know that I'm your friend. Such knowledge will help when you're fighting the beast that lies within you." She said, glancing up at his face, blue eyes searching for something before they looked away.

"How much further is the lake? I've lost track of the distance we've travelled." She gave a short laugh, brushing her tail lightly against his legs as she stepped carefully ahead of Godric.

"I truly hope that it does." Godric murmured, staring into Sunshines searching blue eyes. He didn't think that he had ever felt as calm and right as he did right at this moment. It was almost as if he was at peace. This had to be as good as it got.

He listened to her question and answered it with a short chuckle. They had walked a ways and drew near to the lake. It wouldn't have taken Godric this long had he been traveling himself, but he enjoyed her company. Godric would even admit to himself that he created a few distractions to make their time together last abit longer.

"Can you not smell it in the air, Sunshine? We are very close. The lake lies just beyond the treeline." He smirked looking down at his new friend. His advanced senses could have been the reason for him realizing how close they were before she had. He could smell the musky scent of the water's algae and if he listened close enough, Godric could hear the animals that resided around the water. "Shall we?" Godric walked forwards until he broke the clearing.
His eyes adjusted to the moonlight quickly, allowing him to take in the sight of the lake. The few animals that had noticed his presents had already scurried away, leaving only a mother deer and it's fawn drinking from the water's edge. He felt a tug pull at his stomach, as his mouth began watering at the sight.
Hearing Sunshine stepping out into the clearing behind him, allowed him a moments distraction to push his urges back. Godric did not want to scare his new (and only) friend off.
PostPosted: Mon Oct 25, 2010 7:47 pm

She blinked and raised her head, her nostrils flaring and her eyes closing as she concentrated and took in the scents. She smelled the grass crushed underfoot, the rich smell of the earth, the musk of the pelted stallion nearby and, when she finally realized it, the clean scent of water. Her ears swivveled, picking out the very faint sound of water sloshing against a shore. It was an interesting sound, one she almost never heard up in her mountains. "I can now." She said with a faint smile in her voice.

Her hooves picked carefully though the tangle of underbrush before she pushed her way through. The sight stilled her feet and widened her eyes. "Oh." She said softly, head turning slowly from one side to the other, taking in the lake under the moon light. It was stunning. Stunning in a way different than the lakes she'd seen in the mountains.

"It's beautiful under the moon. And so different from the few lakes I've seen in the mountains." She said softly as she wandered over to Godric, a smile curving her lips as she spied the doe and fawn drinking at the water's edge. It was a peaceful scene, until there was a noise, a breath of wind that make the doe jerk her head up, stare at the two Soquili standing there at the forest's edge before bolting away, herding her fawn ahead of her and into the forest.

Godric looked down at Sunshine as she approached his side. His eyes admired the calm smile upon her lips. It was all worth it, he decided, closing his eyes and taking in the moment. The predator inside of him calmed, though he was still aware of the tugging in his stomach that urge him to take hunt. While Godric himself didn't think that this lake was anything special, he didn't comment upon it to Sunshine. He wasn't one to respect or pay much attention to his surroundings unless it effected him directly.
When Godric opened his eyes again, the Deer and fawn were gone.

They had finally made it to this place, one question lingered in Godric's mind. Now what? He knew that she would have to leave him. As much as he wished that he could keep her company this night, the nagging feeling in his stomach wasn't going to calm down now that he had found the perfect prey.
He nuzzled the mares neck deeply, savoring the moment. "How long will you stay?" he murmurer into her neck, not yet drawing away. He would stay near once he took his leave. Whether Sunshine liked it or not, he was going to be in her life for awhile.
