Sorano knew he had tested her patience. It was quite uncalled for . . . but what do you expect of an 'born to be wild' anarchist? He watched her kunai intently and when it was stabbed hastily into the deck, he jumped twenty yards towards the heavens. Hell, he was still waiting for his soul to come back to his body. He would have died if it were not for his will to say, "Look sharp, foo'!"
The scolding seemed to last for hours to him, though it was possibly nothing more than a couple of minutes. He nodded his head vigorously every time 'Agent' was said. He was to look sharp, just had too. When the scolding came to an end, he flexed a hand to salute and answered a quick, "Yes ma'am!"
One could not deny the appearance of sweat pearling his brow and streaming down his neck. Could someone open a window, please? Must he beg?

She waited five seconds. Five second increments really seemed to be her thing. When five seconds passed, and the Grunt hadn't picked up on what he was to do, the pink-haired Elite gave him some food for thought.
"I suggest you get started with your reading, since I noticed that you were not really reading when I got here earlier. Take a seat and begin in 5...4...3..."

Z-Z-Z-Zooooom. That would describe the next five seconds of Sorano's actions. He scrambled, grabbed, slumped and sighed all within that small section of given time. He already played this count down game once. He nearly lost that time. He wouldn't lose it this time.
Flipping the book over to the front, he clawed to the first page and literally mashed his face into the pages. Will things ever be the same again? It's the final countdown (echo: final countdown).

The short pink-haired girl did not say a word commending him for his efforts. No. This was just desserts for such a lowly, useless Grunt.
She rounded the desk, twirling her knife over her finger and putting it back in her pouch. Kunai stopped immediately next to the Grunt Sorano. She didn't turn to face him as she addressed him, but she informed him "I will return. I will not humiliate myself any further by remaining in a uniform of such a lowly rank."
With that, she exited. Sorano would get a short break from the Elite Agent, for now.

Sorano doesn't like sweet things, so these just desserts were extremely sweet. Enough to put any person into a sugar shock.
He gulped heavily when she spoke, keeping his concentration on his book. When she left the room momentarily, he whinnied like a Ponyta, a stressed Ponyta.
"Oh Arceus, I wish Moose was 'ere now . . . " That's all he had to say. If his bud was there, he'd be able to get through anything . . .

When Kunai returned, she was just as she normally was. Pink pigtails, baggy pants, midriff exposed, and that serious expression that seemed to never leave her face. It really did make that brief encounter with "Melly" all the more surreal. Had Melly just been a dream for Sorano?
This Grunt went relatively unnoticed it would seem, for Kunai began to gather all her materials from the previous undercover work she had just done for Sorano's benefit. She took the Styrofoam bust and wig, then left the room again. It would seem that her new student would not be inconveniencing her regular daily schedule. Several times, she returned to the room simply to gather some things, then exited.
Once she finally returned and seemed to settle in, she pulled out her laptop and sat at her desk. She seemed perfectly fine with ignoring the teal-haired man in the room with her. She had things to do. If anything, this would serve as a preview to the rest of Sorano's days in the near future.
One book a day.
Just one book a day.

The Grunt was quite a slow reader, trying to absorb all the information given within the book. Yet, his concentration faltered with each movement the Elite Agent made. He was still panicking, unfortunately. Yet, it was but one book a day . . . yes? It was a punishment nonetheless, but he would take it like a man.
However, he felt as though he didn't have the stones to take it.
Turning a page, his head turned up a bit as she went to work on her computer. Sorano sighed. Concentrate., was all that reverberated from within. His mind was still drawing blanks. He was never quite good with book work, too boring.

How long had this Grunt been there, wasting space in her office? The teal-haired man didn't even look like he had made it past a single chapter by the time she had finished up all of her office work. He probably had finished off at least that much, but in her critical mind, he should have been done with at least half of the book by now.
Grunt Sorano is apparently the bottom of the barrel when it comes to his intellect. She mentally made this note, then stood herself up.
"Your slow performance upon such a simple task makes me wonder about your reading comprehension levels, Agent."
She walked up next to him, once again not looking at him. He was a very reactive man, and would probably start sweating some more just by the proximity. He was already starting to smell up her office with all of his sweat. As she stood there, she pulled the single ball upon her belt up to her hands. It was purple, with that elusive little white "M" on it.
"I will continue to monitor your progress. I have priorities elsewhere. You do not leave until you have finished, and when you finish, you close the door as you leave. It will lock on its own. Do I make myself clear?"

Sorano felt like nothing more than a spec of dust floating around the planet Earth when within the presence of Miss Kunai. The Elite Agent really knew how to do her job. Sorano ducked his head a little when she approached, sweat once again pearling on his brow. He eyed her Master Ball nervously. What in the world could be balled up within that thing? He dare not question; he might learn the hard way.
"Y-Yes ma'am." he answered, cursing to himself in several different languages for stuttering.
It was going to be a loooong day.

She turned and faced him, her green eyes once again attempting to burn holes through his skin as she glared at him.
"Let me repeat myself, Agent. Do I make myself clear?" Her free hand was already reaching back to her side pouch. Sorano could make out the faint glint of her knife.

He dropped his book, stretching quickly to full length and flipped his hand up to his forehead in salute.
"YES MA'AM!" he bellowed.
He dare not look at where her hand was going. Not. At. All.

Her knife twirled along her finger and was placed back in its pouch the moment he rectified his response.
"I will continue to monitor your progress. I sincerely hope for your own benefit that you finish that book and are gone before I return, Agent."
Stiffly, the pink-haired Elite then marched out the door, as if she had some sort of duty to fulfill. In Kunai's mind, she did have a duty. It was her duty to keep her skills as sharp as possible. A tool is not useful if it goes dull, after all.

Sorano slumped down, turning the page and actually reading the words rather than skimming. It was just one book a day, one book.
His eyes glanced over to the large stack of books, each one looking thicker than the next. There was going to be many days to come, hmm.
