A small grin crept across Valter's face. This guy's not bad, he thought. Straight and to the point. He might actually be a bit of fun to work with. "Good to hear. I'll report back when I..." His voice trailed off as suddenly a voice rang out above all the others "Hey! They're coming!" The grin on the wyvern rider's face grew into a cruel smile, and he finished his conversation with the other CO with "Well, Captain, looks like things are starting to heat up. I'll ready my soldiers. We'll leave when we see your boat sets sail." Valter leaped onto his wyvern, calling out just before he took off "Tear 'em to shreds, Arashe!"

When he got back to his unit, Valter found the majority of his troops already mounted and ready for action. "We leave with the boat. Remember- fly high, take out any heavy weapons, and make way for our guys to board. Don't get yourselves killed." Valter looked out among the faces of his troops, their expressions ranging from anxious to anticipatory. "All right, ready up. Let's kick some a**."

Unlike Blossom, Jin shrugged, unsurprised. "Well, Elibe's a pretty big continent, if I'm any judge. Besides, where I was, I doubt you would've seen me..."

Lundgren didn't ring any bells... the Black Fang was barely involved with that plot. Lyndis, on the other hand, rang a bell...

"Waaait... well, yes. I was with the Fang for a time, but then Nergal and those damn MORPHS ruined everything," Jin said, putting angry emphasis on the word in all caps. But wait..." now he was the one with questions. "Well, first off, me in the Black Fang was... a long story, one that'd take too much time to explain right now," he began, glancing out to sea and noting the large pirate ship. "But second... you would have run into me? Wait... were you at the Dragon's Gate? Valor Isle, that sort of thing? Was your tactician a woman named Alihi, then? I'm sorry if I'm going fast, but this is incredible! You were in Lyndis' Legion with Alihi?

Also, thank you," Jin said, smiling back at her. "For the vote the bl--blah, tongue-tied--vote of cofid--CONFIDENCE."

Blossom nodded slowly, though her expression was vaguely perplexed. "Well, sort of. I mean... I was in Lyndis' Legion, yes. I helped them later with Eliwood and his father, and we fought the Fire Dragon and all of that, but... but Alihi wasn't our tactician. It was... it was Aidan, actually." Blossom looked away from Jin for a few long moments as her expression fell into one of sadness, and when she looked back over at Jin, she had hid it quite well, appearing curious again.

"I already knew about them both somehow being tacticians... do you think somehow there are multiple... dimensions, I guess, of Elibe? I mean, if there's magic out there that lets people cross from one world to the other, having two different histories that only differ in, um, one person... well, I guess it's possible, isn't it?" Blossom looked back ahead.

"I guess maybe that's why I never ran into you. You were in Alihi's Elibe and not Ai... er, mine..." Blossom tightened her gloves under the sleeves of her thick cotton blouse. "Maybe..."

Arashe jumped at the shout of "They're coming!". Luckily for him, things were quite together now! Any last minute preparations that needed preparing were done with, and all that was left was to set sail. And he didn't really... know about boats. At all. So, he'd be leaving any sort of driving or whatever to the crew of it. They should know what they're doing! And Valter's troops were waiting on him to set sail, so... what was he waiting for?

"Alright, set sail, let's go!" he shouted, running up the boat ramp. Moments later, the anchor was pulled from the sea, the boat ramp was removed, and the sails were ready. And then the boat started moving towards the other ship. What more do you want from me? The boat was moving directly towards the Phantom's front, similar to a game of nautical chicken. After all, there'd be no reason to put cannons or anything on the front of a ship.

The soldiers on the boat were probably rather disoriented, and Arashe was no exception. He found himself stumbling a bit and swaying with each tiny movement of the boat. He didn't even notice the mage he'd surely want to shove off of the boat, and any rude mutterings he'd likely be doing, or the purple-haired girl near him with a sword. Arashe's group was supposed to beat a group of trained pirates? Valter's group might be doing more work than they thought...

At least, until Arashe remembered a certain ace-in-the-hole. He rushed about as well as he could to the point on the boat closest to the enemy ship. They were getting closer, definitely, and it wouldn't hurt to send some chaos through their ranks about equal to what was going through his. So, he took out the Ichival, and prepared to fire an arrow. The best thing about this bow, aside from the magical boost to his speed, was the massive wallop it carried with each and every shot. Even in the hands of the most inexperienced of archers, it had as much power as the strongest of ballistae. Arashe honestly hoped it would give them the drop on the enemy, anything from surprise to just sinking the ship altogether.

He took a deep breath, focusing his aim towards the enemy ship. Both boats were moving, so firing a shot was much, much more difficult. Luckily for him, though, boats were big targets! As he fired the arrow towards the ship itself, or maybe a mast, he wasn't sure, it erupted into a beam of light, leaving behind a faint golden trail where it flew through the air. Arashe didn't care, really, if it hit, because really, what in the world would they be able to do before they could attack again? And even then, the boats would surely meet by that time. Regardless, he placed the bow back into hammerspace, and instead grabbed his Brave Bow. It wouldn't be very smart to waste the Ichival's shots this early into the war, now would it?

(( Okay, I might be rushing it, but I figure anyone who's joinin' this thread has already done so. If, for some reason, you missed out and want in, feel free to just drop me a message by whatever means so I can act like you were there the entire time or Arashe didn't notice you or something. <3 ))

Alihi wasn't her tactician? Then who... Aidan? Never heard of him. But Jin tacitly chose not to say anything, noting how Blossom was adamantly staring off elsewhere. "..." No, he got what that meant. No need to pry. He just took the time to stretch his arms a bit, followed by tucking the tomes away into his robes--the ship was starting to move, anyway.

She spoke again, having calmed down. "Dimensions...? You mean... multiple Elibes? Multiple Lyndises...Lyndises? That sort of thing?" It was an interesting theory--after all, what if there were multiple Jins? Multiple Blossoms? Were their stories any different? Would any of them ever find their way here? But too many questions. "Huh. That's... that's the sort of thing you can talk about all night long, I think. It's got my mind boggling.

And I wouldn't say you... no, not you, some variant of you... weren't in Elibe. My Elibe... version of you..." Jin paused, trying to make sense of what he was saying. "Could've been wildly different, or something... and besides," he added as a thought struck him, "I never knew who the tactician really was. It could've been Alihi, or-or someone named Mark, or someone else entirely. I never knew the tactician's name..."

He stood up, this time stretching his legs. The first shot had been fired. He turned, and looked out to sea.

"Well, here they come."

Clara had enough time after she got on board the ship to cool down a bit. She had to carry Derrin part of the way there. She knew there were attacks being planned on Learania so she took chance in coming here. She knew once Derrin knew

"Next time." She said while getting up and looking out at the sea, "We're riding on a horse for long distance travel. That took a bit out of me." Clara saw an arrow being fired at a ship. She got up and put her sword on her left hip, the normal spot for her.

"Get ready Derrin." She said in a more serious tone, "I can see the ship. They're coming." Clara readjusted her ponytail as she looked at the enemy ship.

pirate Yo ho, yo ho
----------------------------------------------------------
They were coming. Tighearnach watched as the ships started to approach. Then, there was a glint of light as something headed for their ship. It was...going rather fast.

Fortunately, several of the Wind Mages were already on it, casting Blizzard spells. The light was buffeted by frosty winds before it dropped into the sea, just a little ahead of their boat. The sharp eyes of one of his thieves informed Tighearnach that it appeared to be an arrow, glowing with light. Strange...but that wasn't the strangest thing he heard, or seen, in his life.

"De 'ell? Well, it don't matter. RETURN FIRE!" the captain barked, pointing the Tomahawk towards the lead ship that had sent the light forth.

The mages attacked in alternating turns. While one chanting, another was already casting. The first spells to be cast were a series of Blizzards and Boltings, aimed for the masts of the ships. The wind/ice spells concentrated on the sails, for if the sails were torn, it was unlikely that they could move, whereas the Boltings aimed for the masts themselves. If they missed though...well, it would leave some damage to the ship deck, and perhaps cause a fire.

Meanwhile, the anchor dropped and the steering wheel veered a sharp turn towards starboard, repositioning the ship. With its side now facing the bow of the Learanian ships, the archers could get to work. The harpoon-like Bastillae aimed at the wyverns flying near the ships but could not fire just yet, because the ship hadn't finished turning. Should the bolts miss, there was still some ammo around in the barracks. And there was more than enough pirates on board to send a couple under the deck to get them.

Several of the pirates that were left with nothing to do hurried to the stern of the boat and proceeded to push a large rotating object around in a circle. There were creaking sounds at the center of the boat, coming from one of the two large holes in the middle of the ship.

Valter and his troops had set out with Arashe's ship, though they were moving considerably faster. Soon enough, the enemy boat was within plain sight. Being an experienced wyvern rider, the captain didn't want to take any chances. It was always a possibility that the enemy had archers or siege weapons, so the wyverns made sure to fly as high as possible.

"Alright, you know the plan. On my mark, dive towards the ship and take out as many as you can before getting targeted by an archer. Fly back up as quickly as you can, and repeat. Go for any heavy weapons first, then any archers. As soon as that's done, get Lennox and his group on the ship, and take the rest of the enemies out. Ready?" Valter looked around one last time to confirm that everything was set, then gave a resounding "Go!" as Kain* folded his wings and dove straight towards the enemy ship.

*For the uninformed, Kain is Valter's wyvern

Arashe began to laugh as the trail of light simply... disappeared in a mass of gray, green and white. These pirates had mages it seemed! While it did annoy him that his arrow was blocked, it did give him quite the heads-up. If they had the magic to idly stop an odd beam of light, they had the magic to do more, definitely.

"Guard Bishops, climb the masts! Keep the magic away, and do any healing you can!" He barked the order rather abruptly, so there was a slight delay in their reaction. But, at least one of them was smart enough to notice that, while they had started by using magic, any more they had would be aimed at the especially resilient Bishops. And white blobs climbing masts were great targets. Or, Arashe at least hoped for as much. And even so, there appeared to be at least one healer on the deck, the loud pink one. And if there happened to be another, all the better!

And then the magic actually began to hit. The Blizzards came so quickly that they seemed to only cancel each other out. Even with the cold, the wind wasn't quite enough to pull the sails that far from their original positions. And it didn't even hit any of the soldiers, save the Bishops who may have gotten a slight chill. The Boltings, however, actually made a little progress. The first two hit the tops of the masts, blowing off the almost-unused tips. After that, however, they shot from the sky straight down onto two Bishops, who used their magical resistance to shrug off most of the damage, leaving them with only a little tingly feeling.

While they were doing that, Arashe noted that the other boat was turning. All they did was just... reposition themselves, so that the front of Arashe`s boat was now going straight towards their port, or left side. As the crew was running around, beginning the preparations to turn as well, Arashe decided to steady a shot.

The enemies were turning some large... crank mechanism in the middle of their ship. He had no idea what it did, but it didn't bode well for his troops. It wouldn't be long before Valter and his wyverns would attack, so he had to be quick. Arashe silently fired off two arrows, each aimed at two of the men turning the large crank. Then, working off the idea that, if he hit any of them, they'd move slower, he fired two more, aimed at two other men turning the crank.

The Ranger finished firing just in time for the crew to turn the boat first to the port side, then widely to the starboard side, going in a movement similar to a ? before stopping quite close to the enemy ship. And with a loud crash, walkways fell from the Learanian ship dangerously close to three of the ballistae on the enemy's port. Moments later, Guard soldiers began to rush across them, first the myrmidons and mercenaries, followed by the unmounted cavaliers, each carrying a lance with and a sword sheathed at their side. The archers began to fire their bows towards those operating the ballistae, taking care to not aim for any wyverns, while the bishops fired Light spells at the masts and those on them.

Blossom shrugged one shoulder. "Who knows...?" she brushed her hair off of her face, though her expression perked up a little as Jin spoke again, sounding rather curious about his idea. "Maybe... I can understand how people from different times can all be in one area due to those Doors, but... I don't know. My idea is kinda silly, isn't it?"

She startled as Jin rose. "They're coming?" she rose to her feet and unstrapped Vezra from her back, holding it uncertainly in her hands. "I can't... actually do anything unless the enemies are on the actual boat..." Blossom said sheepishly.

Her eyes lit up as she saw the magic aiming for the masts. Something I can do! She looked to Jin, then hurried on towards the nearest mast, lifting Vezra defensively towards her. The Blizzards and wind magic were aimed far above her, but the Bishops around her were mostly able to shrug off the Boltings that came later. Vezra, thankfully, did absorb some of the energies from these attacks, mostly from a particularly close Bolting that seemed to partially deflect off of the blade.

Two of the runes on her blade hummed and lit up brightly. Blossom grinned, then looked ahead towards the pirate ship again. Have to wait 'til they're closer so Vezra can hit...

And sure enough, Arashe guided the boat right alongside the pirates, and their own soldiers rushed the enemy, weapons drawn and flashing in the sunlight. Blossom stuck near the bishops for a few long moments. It was about then that she noticed a man standing near the crow's nest, a heavily-muscled man with a large axe and a noticeable orange bandanna.

"As good a target as any!" Blossom grinned and swung Vezra in a powerful arc, and a blast of energy zoomed forth.

Derrin Hasstorn

PostPosted: Fri Jul 02, 2010 5:19 pm

"Brrrg" came the reply from the irritable mage, Derrin hadn't really been noticed by anyone aside from Clara... which was easy to explain as he'd spent the entire voyage below decks and when he wasn't below decks (like the moment he stepped on board) he was over the edge throwing up.

Our boy Derrin... was sea-sick, and now that Clara had dragged him above decks it wasn't getting any any better.

"You can see the ship? Oh good, which one is the enemy one than?" The mage was barely holding himself up anymore, "The one on the left or the one on the straight or the one on the left." He started to raise his hand to point but at that moment a bolt of lightning hit the top of the mast he had taken to leaning on.

"Brrg" he said again as the rocking motion of the ship moving caused him to fall over, with anime swirls in his eyes. Still Derrin wasn't down for the count just yet so standing back up (heisitantly) Derrin glared at the mast as if it was its fault he fell over.

"Sorry, bout that" said the mast.

"Brrrrrrg" Derrin said in response as he ran to the side of the deck to throw up again, a moment later the two ships rubbed together which didn't help matters, when Derrin looked up again it was as if he was completly different, instead of the sick look a goofy smile had spread accross his face.

Derrin reached down slowly to grab his tome, wait no, thats not it, ah there we go. Holding the thunder tome out infront of him and swaying like a drunkard he squinted at the pages. The air felt warm and fuzzy in his head and he was seeing double of everything

"Flliberdijp crab monkey." He said while raising his hand, wait that wasn't it, was it? Try again Derrin, and so he did and this time he was rewarded with a peal of thunder that echoed across the water. What did he hit though? He didn't know or care all he knew was that the enemy ship was somewhere infront of him...

and so he began casting spell after spell aimed in that general direction friend or Feo it didn't matter he was just going to keep casting lightning at the enemy ship until he felt better.

User ImageDietrich grumbled, staggering and swaying on the pitching deck. Being slightly buzzed didn't help his already fairly abysmal balance, but the ship made it impossible for him to keep himself straight. Nonetheless, he failed to be struck by a single Bolting.

But he had a HAND AXE. And he would KICK THEIR ASSES YEAH

He swung his arm back, twisting his whole body, then felt his right foot lift off the ground and yelped as he stumbled back on one foot, then threw his weight forward, letting go of the axe before falling on his face.

The mildly-enchanted blade whipped through the air as Dietrich pushed himself up off the deck, crossing the distance between the two ships and cutting open an unsuspecting mage's neck, then swung around to return to its owner... and stuck itself in another mage's back.

"Aww, hell! Hey!" he shouted at Arashe. "Hey can we make the ship go over there! I need my axe back! Thing was like a week's salary!"

pirate Yo ho, yo ho
----------------------------------------------------------
Huh. That was odd. The sails and the masts were pretty much still standing. Were the siege magic spells ineffective? Or was there some other reason.

"Captain T! They've got men of the cloth up on the masts!" Yam shouted.

Though, with the sounds of combat, the captain only picked up a few words. Captain...men of cloth...masts. Huh. That would make sense now. Where they managed to find bishops with some actual physical strength was anyone's guess.

The pirates at the back of the boat managed to finish turning the wheel so that a large cannon would now be visible at the middle of the boat. Just then, one of them was struck by an arrow in his sword arm, and the remaining three became cautious, turning their attention to their assailant because there was really only one direction where it could have came from, and they were close enough to see said sniper. Two shots were deflected off the blunt side of their axes, and the last was narrowly avoided. The three uninjured men rushed their way back to where one of the boarding planks and proceeded to block the several unfortunate NPCs from getting past them. The lone injured man retreated back to the main group to get healed.

First things first, the wyverns. They were close and were now proceeding to dive and attack...the bastillae, it seemed. Fortunately, the archers were focused on them since the start. And with the sun being to the west of them, there was no worry of being blinded in the process. Shots were fired up at the fliers. One or two of them were taken down (whether the shot was fatal, or if it clipped the soft underbelly and tore it open, resulting in falling wyvern guts, or if the rider itself was hit) before the archers had to abandon their posts to get enough distance away from the soon-to-be-destroyed harpoons. One of the thunder mages, who were near the bastillae and heard the shouting from their allies, glanced up to see the wyverns approaching. One of them discarded the now useless Bolting and both pulled forth Elthunders before casting the spells at the wyverns who were endangering the harpoons. One thunder mage in particular (Yam, who had climbed down from the crow's nest to assist with taking down the wyverns) proceeded to target Valter, who seemed to be leading all these wyverns.

The nameless pirates and mercenaries focused on the nameless swordsmen and unmounted cavaliers that were trying to come onto the ship.

One lone sniper felt something whiz by his shoulder. An arrow, from what his sharp eyes could tell. He barked new orders for the archers to take out the enemy bowman, who diverted their attention away from the wyverns to take out the Learanian archers. Two wind mages that weren't slain from Dietrich's Hand Axe in the back proceeded to assist the thunder mages with This sniper (Hadrian) then noted a crazed mage on the enemy side, targeting friend and foe alike with thunder magic. He would be too dangerous to leave alone, even if he was help. He knocked an arrow onto his short bow, took aim, then fired, aiming directly for Derrin's attacking shoulder.

Tighearnach noticed a short woman with a bigass sword making her way towards him. She swung her weapon, and a blast of energy was sent his way. His hand sweeped down towards the Tomahawk on his side, as he prepared to dodge the blast, but a figure appeared in front of him. Most of the blast was deflecting by this man's unusually high magical resistance, and the rest was stopped by a shield, which was knocked out of the man's hand and slid off towards the cannon.

"Muir!" said Tighearnach, surprised.

"Captain...This one requests permission to fight her. The opponent uses swords and axes, just like this one. Leave her to this one." said Muir, his back to the captain.

"...Very well. Don't die jus' yet, boy."

Muir nodded. He didn't have any plans on dying yet...he still had to repay his debt he owed to the captain. They all did. A Steel Blade was pulled from his back before he charged at Blossom.

The injured fire mage fell back a little, but a muscular man (Caspian) reached and pulled the Hand Axe out of the injured man's back before Shoving him back to get him out of harm's way.

"Want eet back? Take eet!" The axe was twirled in his hand before he threw it at Dietrich, slicing one unmounted cavalier's throat in the process, and hopefully the dark haired man too.

The uninjured fire mage (Llyr) made his way to the cannon, opened his Elfire tome, and placed two fingers on the fuse before he began to read an incantation. He would be protected by a Myrmidon (Andrew) and a Rogue (Glaucus) until the incantation was finish and they could fire the cannon.

Tighearnach noticed a sniper that seemed to be wearing what appeared to be noble's clothing and seemed to be commanding the land forces before he charged forth, Berserker-style, pushing past his crew and smiting anyone who so dared get in his way with either his muscular arm or the Silver Axe.

((Okay...if you're lazy bastards and are all tl;dr...then here's a summarized version. Yam's attacking Valter, Muir is fighting Blossom, Tighearnach is going for Arashe in Berserker mode, Hadrian is targeting Derrin, Caspian is challenging Dietrich, Llyr's lighting the cannon and is being protected by Andrew and Glaucus. Once the cannon's fired, Llyr will go fight Serra, Andrew will fight Clara, and Glaucus will fight Jin. That way, everyone gets a fight. Oh, and these newly named guys that are all commanding officers under the captain, so don't expect to be as easy as the nameless NPCs. Main bulk of the pirates is defending the main boarding plank, while smaller groups are guarding the other two planks. Simple as that.))

Blossom couldn't help but let out a little swear as the attack was... well, absorbed by someone else. Despite looking just like any other pirate onboard, he was apparently pretty tough. Blossom gulped and shifted her grip on Vezra's hilt, watching the man with wary eyes.

He seemed to be talking to the bandanna-wearing dude. Either Bandanna Man was their captain, or he was otherwise important. So that meant her choice in attack was a good one, just... that it got intercepted. Damn. Then, without warning, the man rushed for her, Steel Blade drawn.

No time for thoughtful consideration, then! Blossom lifted her sword and parried his first attack, bracing her boots against the deck of the ship. The blade certainly was deceiving to anyone that might look at it--it seemed to be at least four feet long, considerably wide (at the very least, for a sword's normal width), and as such should have been noticeably heavy. The small ridges cut out in the center of the blade, however, along with its unassuming thickness (not much; it made it easier to slice) made the blade lighter than it looked.

Blossom suspected some kind of magical metal as well. Or the enchantment on the blade made it lighter.

Blossom grinned. Sometimes smiling made the other dude scared. In all actuality, at least, she trusted in her abilities right now. This dude was seriously going to underestimate her, she just knew it. Who would take a young-looking girl that barely broke five feet with a sword almost as long as she was tall as a considerable threat?

This was probably a good time for a witty one-liner. In the absence of one, Blossom simply summoned a burst of excess strength to push Muir back and slice at his chest. It wasn't the fastest swing--Vezra was still a relatively heavy blade--but it happened quicker than a person would expect of a girl of her size.

Ahh, good old pirates. So predictable, thinking that all they had to do was wave their axes and their enemies would surren...der... oh SWEETELIMINETHEYHADSIEGEMAGIC. It made Jin worried for a moment. I-I can't block all THAT! But he'd forgotten he wasn't alone in all this; Bishops had managed to scale the rigging, taking the magical mojo on the ship's behalf. More to his surprise, Blossom herself raised her crazy large sword and... ABSORBED some of the magic.

Jin nodded in approval. Impressive... and now, they were about ready to board the enemy ship.

"And now, it's my turn."

Jin chose the plank on the far right--fewer pirates out there, and besides that it was the plank he was closest to. The big problem with this sort of attack, however, was that planks were wide enough for... one to two people at best, whereas the pirates had the entire front of their ship to work with. Quantity-wise, these were unfair odds. Which meant it was up to Jin to even those odds!

He aimed, and a larger fireball shot directly into a pirate, burning him (as well as a small area around him) to a crisp. The surrounding timbers promptly caught fire. Well, that was no good! If the fire spread too far, the pirates were good as sunk! As several of the defending pirates wasted valuable seconds stamping out the flames, Jin sped across the planks. One pirate stepped out to block his path, but the Assassin came prepared--a flick of his wrist, and a throwing knife found itself lodged in the defender's throat.

"COME ON," he called out, and the NPCs swarmed after him. The remaining pirates on the other side tried to keep holding, but by the time they could get back to defending the plank, enough of Learania's troops crossed over. Their defensive position was all but lost.

Trusting the troops to keep the bridge from falling back into enemy hands, the Shadow Priest had but one objective:

Whatever the hell that big black barrel-shaped iron thingy was, it couldn't be good. IT MUST DIE.

...But before he could do that, a Rogue stepped into his path. Oh, right, Jin thought dryly. There's always a boss... At which point, perhaps unbeknownst to his opponent until he saw the green blades shooting toward him, Wind was cast on Glaucus. Not that he had to fear for his life; Wind magic wasn't reknowned for making heads roll.

Jin decided he'd just keep it simple to start.
