At Woodworkers hall 109, the good men who laid the wooden floor on the platform were crying. All their hard work had gone for nothing.

Her opponent had an ace up his sleeve. It was easy to tell. In the time it took her to swim back to the platform he hadn't attacked her. No stone projectiles were flying her way, and she wasn't going to wait all day for him to dive in. She swam to the corner edge of the platform, taking about a minute to let him do whatever he was doing so she could reach what she had to reach. If he could hear her movements underwater, she was swimming fast as she could toward the corner of the platform.

There was no choice in the matter, she was a sitting duck and she just knew he was planning something. The question was, how to deal with magic attacks that gave almost no forecast of when they were going to strike. And if she got through those, she could only hope she wouldn't be dealing with Bruce Lee in super strong anthro-morph form. She had to have an advantage somewhere, hopefully hand-to-hand combat was it, and she still had her knife just in case.

Try.

The cards had been stacked against her from the beginning anyway. If she just swam away now and gave up, she could never forgive herself.

One thing she could do. Drejak would hear a small splash as both her hands went flat palmed upon the corner of the platform. She didn't want to get speared in the gut by another stone manipulation attack, so she was in a hurry.

Splosh!

She pushed herself out of the water, tucked her knees while scraping them as little as possible, and set her feet up the wooden floor. In that crouched position, she spit out her breather, leaving it on the edge of the platform. Without drawing her knife, she sprung up to attack, going forward with her hands on guard. Her fists were loose, the left hovering in front of the left side of her waist, just above the curve of her hips. The right fist was angled in front of her chest.

Drejak would have to notice that her movements were coming faster than before, much faster. Her entire body was tensed to a fever pitch, as there was little room for error.

Instead of going full out on the first strike, as she closed his space her right arm went underneath his left fist and she raised her forearm, sort of pushing his arm up and out of the way if she had the strength. Considering that his arm was extended, she thought such a bold tactic might actually work. If it did, then she could attempt to bring her fist down for a blow to the area below his sternum. If she could even go for the sternum blow, her body would pivot so that her right side was facing him with her right foot leading, in order to lend a bit more force to the blow and leave Drejak less of a target. Her left palm remained centered to counter any blows from his right.

Splosh!

Drejak's ears locked onto the sound, and in an instant, the wolf anthropomorph stood from his destructive work with the flooring and turned to face the corner she had crawled up on. He assumed his stance, with his fists clenched as she charged towards him.

Drejak's feet were planted firmly on the exposed stone floor. Red might or might not notice what he had been busy with for the better part of those sixty seconds. In the center of the platform was now a roughly-shaped circle of exposed stone. The circle was about five feet in diameter, which meant Drejak had only been able to remove about a foot and a half of the flooring in each direction. The circle had been centered on the path that his "Earth Spike" had made previously. Drejak's stance was maintained completely within this circle, and he had a bit of room to move his feet before he would have to step back onto the wood. It was just what he had needed. The water around the platform was littered with chunks of discarded wood, and a few pieces here and there hadn't quite made it to the water.

Closer and closer she came, and Drejak was honestly impressed with her speed. Since the fight begun, he had either been in the water, or she had, so Drejak didn't have a basis for comparison if her speed had actually increased or not. So, Drejak assumed this was her normal movement speed. He waited in his circle of stone for her to close the distance. She hadn't drawn her knife, which he could see strapped to her hip. The awkward attire she had chosen to wear beneath her coat didn't really phase Drejak.

Every step she made registered in his ears. With her speed of movement, it almost sounded like a rushed drum-beat. It wasn't until her forearm made contact with his that Drejak would react, and as he did, he realized for the first time just how small his opponent was. Red was easily a foot shorter than he was, and as such, she barely had to stoop in order to get her forearm and bodyweight to press up against his stance.

Her deflection, combined with her forward momentum, opened a sort of neutral ground for the two. While it did allow her much smaller body to overcome his physical strength and size temporarily, it also gave Drejak a bit of an opening.

Perhaps Red hadn't seen Drejak's first-round fight. She had just thrown herself into a kill-zone with him. When Red had touched Drejak's forearm, it had almost sealed her fate. As she deflected his left fist and moved into the sternum punch she was looking for, Drejak's body stepped into its own motions. His left fist opened as his right foot slid back behind his left to pivot Drejak's entire body almost parallel with Red's as she punched. Her fist would connect with his stomach, but due to the turning of his body the blow would glance and her fist wouldn't find a solid purchase. She'd clip his torso, and with her momentum of turning into the punch, likely carry forward a split second longer. Glancing blows still hurt, and since Drejak didn't have super-resistant skin or any such bodily reinforcement, he'd definitely be hiding a bruise under his fur later. The inch-long claws that tipped Drejak's fingers and had been concealed within his clenched fists would come into play as he countered.

Evasion was something you learned through fighting and practicing, both of which he had years upon years of experience with. Drejak wasn't a martial artist. He was far from a master of any style. He was raised to hunt and kill with his natural weapons. He was a wolf, of sorts, after all. It would be the manner in which he capitalized on countering her punch that might show her the animal she was dealing with.

Since Drejak had turned to avoid the punch, his position had changed. His front was essentially facing Red's right shoulder, and most of his weight had shifted to his left foot. The double-bent digitigrade legs Drejak walked on provided excellent strength and stability. The padded paws he had for feet, rather than the human construct of a foot, made it much more difficult to off-balance him, especially when combined with the correctional capabilities of his bushy tail. All in all, the shift of his weight and her pushing against his arm had hardly put him on unsteady footing.

With Red's body in the action of punching and preparing to recover from the glancing blow she had landed, Drejak’s opening seemed wide. With increased speed usually came increased recovery time, and Drejak wondered if she could stop him, or herself, for that matter. Drejak’s right hand, which was still up near his jaw/neck, moved first. His fingers opened, and the extremity shot forward to attempt to lock a vice-like grip on the bicep of Red’s right arm, which was essentially right in front of Drejak at this point and would most likely be an easy grab. The painful part would be Drejak’s inch-long claws digging into the skin and muscle tissue of her unprotected body.

Following a successful catch of her arm, Drejak’s feet would shift to almost turn his front-facing 180 degrees as he used the established grip to pull her forward and combine the motion with the tail-end of her glancing punch recovery. Hopefully his strength, forward pull of his grip, and shift of his weight into the same direction that Red had already been dedicating her body, would put her off balance enough to make her lose her footing and fall forward to the stone below.

If Drejak could gain this control, there would be more to follow. Should she be able to stop him or somehow counteract his counter-attack, then his plans might have to change.

Shadow watched as Drejak and Red continued their fight. She cut her eyes towards Drejak at his blunder but, of course, said nothing. She knew he would quickly regain control of himself.

Just relax Warrior, you're still on top of this. Shadow knew he couldn't hear her thoughts but it made her more calm anyways.

Shadow couldn't help but laugh as her mate's opponent clearly wanted to stay in the water. Oh if only she wasn't injured and could have entered in the tournament, this particular fight would have been a breeze, regardless of who her opponent was.

Is this girl that daft or does she have a death wish? Shadow shook her head as the human with fake ears continued, confidently.

Shadow simply smiled and continued to watch the fight progress.

What did he think her name was, Sephiroth?

Drejak would soon learn that there was nothing wrong with her control. She couldn’t afford to waste momentum or movements. If she was moving too fast, the parry of his arm would have been much too difficult. He should have picked up from that alone that she was anything but reckless, quite the opposite. The key was to keep a cool mind and find her own balance between her agility, her speed, and her control, the other key was to remain a step ahead of her opponent tactically.

She knew better than to expect anything from her fists. The fact that the strike even connected at all meant nothing to her, because the punch wasn’t about inflicting hurt, it was about inducing a reaction. Drejak had superior strength, he’d attempt to strong arm her and rip her to shreds with his big meaty claws, probably with one or both arms. From the tape, it seemed Drejak liked to grab things and not let go, with his teeth or otherwise. He did exactly as expected.

There was a better reason why her right side was presented with her right foot leading by the time the punch landed. Because her punch would no more than glance when it would retreat, but not backwards, downwards. So she could lower herself on her haunches. Very unlikely he expected her to make her height shorter. The nimbleness with which she repositioned herself combined with her smaller size should have made for any easy dodge. Hopefully, she’d avoid even being scratched by those big meaty claws, much less grabbed.

But she wasn’t going down merely to dodge, or even to examine Drejak’s redecorating skills. As she went down her torso would lean back and her left hand would become a support, simultaneously her tucked right leg would come up parallel with her body and slam forward for the left knee that Drejak had openly presented by shifting his position parallel to hers.

The ball of her right foot would fly forward, and the tip of her boot would land with enough force to smash a human knee-cap or at least distend some ligaments if it hit at all. Fact was, those double-bent digitigrade legs he was so fond of were excellent for running on all fours but not exactly the most efficient for bipedal motion or defense in the case of this type of an assault. Of course, since he was somewhere between wolf and human, Red couldn't tell how exactly his legs were constructed or what damage she could inflict. She just knew his upper left knee was sticking out and waiting for her foot. The bend of his knees would provide a slightly closer point of impact, giving him less time to react if he attempted to dodge her kick. Even if she had to adjust, or couldn't smash through a patella and break some bones, she hoped to at least force the knee to hyper extend and cause injury to the long external lateral ligament, which she was fairly sure he possessed, possibly to a point more vulnerable than a human's.

Crouch down, arch back, launch foot for low breaking kick, retract foot: Time elapsed > 1 second.

Another nice thing happened, as she kicked an ear plug fell from her left ear, outside the water those things were quite annoying. Mouth breathing was even more annoying, but at the rate she was going she needed to anyway.

Drejak need not think that her foot would just remain in place, it would be retracted so she had the full range of options depending on his next move, including more breaking kicks if he didn't step back. Her right hand had retracted and was resting open just hovering above her sheathed blade.

She… dropped? Drejak had expected an easy grab against an opponent with forward momentum carried through a punch with most of a body dedicated to it. Alas, things could never be so easy, could they? Well, his first round had been pretty simple. Grab, maul, mangle. Drejak had hardly broken a sweat, and yet here was this seemingly human female, maneuvering in a way that had caught him off guard, even with all his experience. Drejak was sure she had experience of her own. It was pretty easy to see in how she used her body as a weapon. This speed she was able to move and adjust with, though… Drejak hadn’t seen it in her before, and he wasn’t sure if she’d been hiding it, or if the minute’s worth of time she’d had in the water had given her the window she needed to unlock some sort of enhancement ability.

Red impressed him. She was smart, sneaky, and fast. She was in complete control of her actions. So far, he hadn’t seen her waste a motion. That was good, especially when coupled with her speed. Had she outpaced Drejak with this sudden tactical shift? Hardly. If anything, she was fighting him on more even ground, now.

Red was down on her left hand, and kicking for his knee. Rather than a sweep or rising kick, this attempt seemed to be a thrust or snap kick. It wasn’t a bad tactic, actually. Aim for the legs and take your opponent’s base. It was really, really smart. Drejak could, and would react in time to save his knee from being destroyed, however.

Even though his legs were digitigrade, they carried a lot of the same weaknesses as human legs, but as for them being bad for defense or mobility, Red was wrong in that thought. Hundreds of races throughout the years had developed legs hinged in such a manner. The ancestors of his species had all walked and fought upon these animal-like legs for hundreds of years. They were a good, sturdy base, and the double-jointed bend allowed a much more direct descent when crouching than the function of a human’s legs, because the thigh and knee would be tucked much more in line with the upper body, rather than jutting outward so much.

As Red’s kick came flying out for Drejak’s left knee, he was able to pivot on his right foot to turn his toes towards her. This would provide him a saving grace, and possibly a capitalization, because as she kicked, his weight shifted to his right leg. He let his left leg take part of the blow, but he would bend his right knee first, just as she kicked. The bend of his knee would lower his position just slightly, so instead of her kick finding his patella, her boot’s sole found the top of his thigh and sent his leg flinging back behind him and out from under him. His nerves rocked with pain through his left leg, and that pain’s end result was the snarl that escaped his lips. A flash of anger passed through his eyes, and then faded as he repressed the urge to shred her entirely. He realized that he wouldn’t be able to put his full weight on that leg any time during the rest of the fight, and if he had taken the blow with its original intention, he wouldn’t have been able to walk on it at all.

Drejak’s tail shifted and pivoted to help him keep proper balance on his right foot as his body continued to rapidly lower in time with her kick recovery. He was coming down to her level while she was retracting the kick. By the time she brought her leg all the way back, she would be staring at his well-defined abdomen.

Drejak’s left hand came down with immense force simultaneously as he dropped. His fingers were held rigidly half-curled to make all the claws face her back as he swung his arm out over her and then brought his palm towards her backside. He would execute this swing as he essentially knelt in front of Red’s now horizontal body. His right hand hadn’t extended much in the grab attempt he had made, but he was still retracting that hand from the miss. Drejak’s actions and reactions were quick and decisive, and almost paralleled Red’s speed and agility. It was one of the advantages of being a natural-born predator.

Red’s kick had connected, but the blow wouldn’t render the desired results. Drejak’s toes of his left foot touched the ground behind him as he used the spread stance she had forced him into to distribute his weight. The balance he had now acquired allowed his left arm’s attack to carry not only the force of his arm’s strength, but also the distributed and dedicated momentum of his upper body. Should the blow connect, which Drejak strongly saw it doing since Red’s body was nearly parallel with the ground and he was pretty much pinning her body between his front and his hand behind her, his claws would tear straight through her bathing suit and sink into the flesh in the small of her back.

Five punctures would spread her crimson essence across her flesh, and then his fingers would flex their brutal grasp to sink the claws in farther. Had this been a lethal tournament, and had Drejak had enough force behind the blow to such a soft-bodied adversary, he could have plunged his fingers into her body and wrapped his grasp around her lower spine. Oh well, one can dream of brutality extremes.

Whether his claws found her back or some other portion of her body, Drejak’s right hand would have chambered back near his jaw by now. He knew Red wasn’t helpless, and he could see her right hand hovering for that split second near her knife’s hilt. Perhaps his empty hand could take care of that. Her fragile face was so exposed… The vicious part of Drejak’s mind wanted to dig his other hand’s claws into her face and destroy it, but the rest of his mind knew that striking now would likely risk him losing an arm or getting stabbed in some other manner, so Drejak kept his hand in check to help him defend against a potential counter-attack. Her left arm was out of the question since she was supporting her weight on it, and whether she acknowledged his improvements to the ring or not, Red should realize she was in a bad spot if Drejak managed to catch her, because she would be pinned between her opponent and his element of choice. Red really wouldn’t have any where to go if Drejak succeeded, now, and with her choice of positioning and his decided countermeasure, it seemed highly likely that Drejak would. Drejak’s right hand was ready to spring into action, defensively or offensively, and his lips curled as he snarled at her and barred his fangs.

Ground and pound? No, but Drejak was perfectly capable of such a tactic, should it come to that in this David versus Goliath style match-up. Mentally, Drejak gave her a lot of credit. She was putting up much more of a fight than he had anticipated. Outwardly, she would only see aggression and a drive to overcome.

Shadow was watching. Drejak had to win.

Once in a position, Adaire did not have to remain in that position. Another kick would have been foolish, as expected, the tactical advantage of her maneuvering had been neutralized. Her opponent had not responded foolishly, but his actions did not catch her off guard either.

However, she could tell that her opponent was becoming bloodthirsty, never a good sign, but perhaps it would make him a bit more predictable?

As his arm came down, her torso would be angling up from the kicking position. Once the initial bounce was gained from her left hand, it would find a place tucked between her waist and her chest. At the same time her knife would not remain unsheathed. In one swift motion it would be pulled from her sheath. The blade was facing downward for exactly this reason. So she could attack her enemy the moment it was unsheathed if she had too. The middle of the blade would hopefully meet his wrist as her arm flew outwards. It would keep his claws from reaching her backside if successful, parrying his arm upwards as she snapped back upwards and bounced to her feet. While bouncing up, Red would slash the blade outward horizontally to leave a deep gash sideways across his arm. Just as the blade was sliding out of his arm she would back step to reset for the next strike and avoid an inevitable counter if she could.

In the back of her mind, she was waiting for another one of those stone spikes to come out of nowhere. She was almost stationary when the first hit her, so she figured her best option in the event of another was to keep moving.

If she could escape the lunge, and put some distance between them, more movement would immediately follow. Now just wasn't the time to dedicate where.

It seemed Drejak had actually managed to do something smart in this fight, for a change. Up until this pivotal moment, he had simply been reacting and trying to find a way to ensnare his opponent. Finally, something seemed like it had worked. The detail of what made this moment so pivotal and seemingly triumphant was that Drejak hadn't lashed out in that rage he was feeling. He had managed to keep his bloodlust in check just long enough to give him an edge in this frenzied moment .

Drejak really couldn't justifiably say he had anticipated Red's reaction. He characteristically didn't think or plan that far ahead in a fight. When his mind was clear enough to allow him to do so, Drejak looked at things in a logical perspective. Red, whose name Drejak still did not actually know, had a knife on her hip. She had yet to use it in an assault, and Drejak had expected her to reserve it for self-defense since she hadn't drawn it earlier when she was making offensive maneuvers. That thought had kept him rather wary of being close to her and was the reasoning that had kept his right hand in check, with his fist up near his jaw as he aimed to gouge his left-handed claws into her back.

In order for Red to slash Drejak's left wrist and save her back, her arm and blade would have to cross the threshold of Drejak's right side, where his right arm was ready and waiting to intervene.

As she slashed out with the knife, presumably in her right hand since that hand had been hovering near the hilt and since it would be incredibly diffcult for her to try to perform the slash with her left arm, Drejak would see the distinct movement of Red drawing the weapon. She was quick about it, too, but his attention had already been focused on the threat of the knife and he was ready for her strike.

Red's arm extended into the slash, and Drejak's right arm moved to meet hers. He wouldn't try to grab her arm or catch her fist. That was far too complex and required too much precise timing. Instead, since her arm would essentially be either tilted diagonally or horizontally, Drejak's right fist elevated. His forearm would be completely vertical with the back of his fist facing Red's swinging arm. Forearm's would clash, the knife slash would be blocked. If she was trying to rise, she might find it incredibly difficult to do so.

This would be attributed to Drejak's further action against her blocked right arm. As soon as he felt the contact, and was assured that her slash was neutralized, his forearm would slide against hers as he attempted to wrap his arm inside hers to bring his fist and part of his forearm beneath her bicep, and trap her forearm between his bicep and ribs. He would tuck his elbow inward once he wrapped her arm. The action would put simultaneous outward pressure against her bicep via the back of his forearm, and inward pressure against her forearm via the inside of his bicep. Red's arm would be forced to full extension as a result. If he could accomplish this reactive arm-entrapment, Drejak would neutralize her knife altogether unless she managed to somehow get it into her left hand. Since the blade had been facing downward and she had dedicated to the slash, Drejak figured there would be little time for her to try to flip the blade and make it a danger after her arm was trapped. The hilt should have remained in her hand normally, with the bottom of the hilt now probably pressed to his ribs. She really wouldn't be able to do much with that hand or arm at all. Should he succeede, Red was most certainly trapped by this entanglement and his greater strength. She would not escape.

Drejak's left arm would travel unimpeded regardless of whether or not he caught her arm, because he had still blocked it. His fngers would bathe in the warmth of her blood and his claws would gouge into the softness of her bathing-suit-clad flesh. Four punctures would form on the left side of her lower spine, and one on the right side. Drejak knew the nerves in that area of the body were sensitive in humans. He shared that sensitivity. As Drejak had thought previously, he could have ripped her spine out with the way his fingers were positioned, had he had enough force to embed his fingers entirely.

If Red continued to try to rise with his claws in her back, she would increase the damage Drejak would deal because those meathooks of his would tear through her flesh. They wouldn't reach deeply enough to endanger her spine, but the bone would probably be visible through the gashes left in her skin. If her arm wound up trapped within his grasp, Drejak could easily fight her attempt to rise by simply applying his greater weight to that side of his body. If he had to do so, he would bring his left foot forward as he tilted towards his right to keep her on the ground. The girl was too dangerous on her feet. Drejak had to capitalize here and now.

With his fangs barred and his claws in her flesh (and her arm potentially wrapped up in his own) Drejak had several options to work with. The most appetizing would be her exposed right shoulder if he caught her arm.

The predator was upon her, now. The wolf had caught the hare. Perhaps she was trapped in more ways than one? Should his arm lock succeede, Red would be in danger of having her shoulder bitten, or simply yanked from its socket and dislocated. The damages he could inflict upon her would be untold in their volume.

The chase is over.

Drejak had to keep his wits about him and focus so entirely on Red's actions that he had lost the opporunity and focus to amplify his commune with the stone beneath them. He could feel, however, a dim sense of familiarity with earthen elements within the stone, now. With that nearly instinctual knowledge drifting through the back of his mind, Drejak was confident that even if he botched the arm lock attempt somehow, he was still going to come out on top of the situation.

Red wasn't so slow that she was still back in the firing position for the breaking kick, which didn't seem to have too much effect slowing him down. Drejak would be in for another shock though, as her left palm would check Drejak's right arm a few inches above the wrist, her fingers would close loosely, and her knife would fly unimpeded to it target. It was facing downward in the sheath, meaning that when standing up the blade pointed toward the ground and the rear. This meant no flipping of the blade would be needed, as it would come out facing toward her opponent and fly out to catch his left wrist exactly as intended.

While this was no contest of strength, she had caught him attempting to take her knife arm and claw her backside. He was crouched down and attempting to force her body down with basically a thrust of his torso and his two arms. One which should be at this point pushing down into the sharp edge of her bowie knife. This would allow her to pivot her left leg forward and correct her stance. As he was crouching, her push upwards would actually push him off balance because she spread his arms upwards and apart using her leverage. The right with her left hand clutching his wrist loosely and the left by slightly angling her blade. No way she was strong as this beast, but it wasn't like she had no strength whatsoever. An upward thrust against him in his position should not have been a difficult task, especially if one of his knee's happened to be bothering him. At this point, it would be far more about balance than strength, as it was intended that her counter would test that wounded knee's ability to balance, but she would have gained a temporary advantage anyhow in leverage due to his crouched nature. A single shot of her left arm all to put a check on his forward momentum despite his overzealous attempt to press his advantage and turn this into a grapple match.

But there was more, as she wasn't going to use this as simply an opportunity slice open his wrist a little while getting out of the way. If the initial steps went right, she would take a second to use his halted momentum against him.

"No bite!"

He was half dog, he had been snarling, and he liked to bite. As she was finishing the push on his arms the steel toe of her right boot would fly unimpeded at the underside of his muzzle. It wasn't a breaking kick, but it was a good swift kick. If it landed it could possibly break the underside of his muzzle. Attempting to catch it with his teeth would be awkward for the wolf man, to say the least. His body would most likely still be lower due to the balance issue, so her kick shouldn't have far to go. Coming from below, it would be very difficult to get his muzzle positioned for a bite in time as well. The kick would return when she had pushed his arms outward near her full reach, at which point she would disengage her opponent with a back step immediately following the kick and assume a kick boxing stance.

Of course, this kick could only be attempted if everything went right countering, or else the opportunity wouldn't even present itself. If all went well, she would be out of clear and present danger, he would have a gash across his left wrist that should be a nice bleeder, and possibly an aching jaw. Though it probably also meant she'd have some fairly deep scratches on the top of her left arm and the back of her left hand, despite the fact that she aimed for a spot to minimize clawing damage while still allowing grip and leverage.

Drejak’s mind blazed with disbelief as the young woman in front of him attempted to slip into the realm of incredibly super-natural speed. At this point, Drejak simply HAD to let his mind slip into another logical analysis of what was occurring:

Red had struck out with her knife in self-defense. He had moved to counter the knife strike from the still-mostly-crouched opponent with a vertical forearm block against a horizontal or diagonally positioned arm. So far, it was logically sound and a good reaction, but all good things must come to an end. It’s sad, but it’s true.

Somehow, in the middle of swinging her right arm (which she would HAVE to swing at full speed in order for her to have had ANY hope of the weapon intercepting his attacking left arm) Adaire had decided it was a good idea to attempt to bring her left arm forward to “check” Drejak's right arm,( And what was "checking" exactly; was she attempting to keep his arm from moving in the way of her swing? Doubtful, since she’d wind up cutting herself. Was she trying to move his arm out of the way? That seemed most likely.) so her swing could continue. How on earth Red figured she could move her left arm faster than her already accelerated and swinging right arm, Drejak had no idea.

On top of Drejak’s disbelief of the speed she was attempting to reach, her apparent misunderstanding of his physiology was astounding. Drejak, while bigger and stronger than Red, was not some lumbering giant she could just dance around. Rather, the difference in their speeds and strengths was simply more that Adaire was smaller than he, she was female and they were of two different races. Females, generally, are genetically weaker than males in physical considerations. Not to mention (because her author noted such)she was a mundane human. Drejak was a wolf in human form. His very existence was based on the deadly combination of predatory levels of strength and speed, combined and balanced at such a precise level to make him a living killing-machine. She was not outpacing him. She was, in fact, dealing with a creature with heightened strength, heightened speed, heightened reaction times, and heightened senses. His natural, predatory traits may have not achieved the level of super-human, but they were ALL beyond human standards of above-average.

Adaire also seemed to have an issue with trying to take Drejak’s balance as being something to toy with. True, in this current situation his balance wasn’t at its peak, but he would probably be on a MUCH more stable base than she currently was. She had dropped low and kicked. She had drawn her leg back, and apparently managed to put it back on the ground or something, but since Drejak had moved in time with her kick and not several seconds afterwards, she shouldn’t have had time to establish a firm base with her right foot. Considering how her weight was being supported primarily on her left side, how could she have done so any way? Now, she was apparently “bouncing” back up from the crouch, fueled by some combination of force from her left arm pushing off the ground and her left leg accompanying it. Simultaneously, she was slashing with the knife. To add to that, she was accelerating her left arm well beyond physical possibilities to move faster than her slashing right arm. So, it seemed, most of her weight was pivoting solely on her left leg as she was rising, slashing, “checking” Drejak’s blocking arm, and trying to re-establish footing with her right leg. So… how in the world could she possibly have anything even resembling balance during all of this? At least Drejak had a solid base to support his weight on. Both feet were firmly on the ground, he had a wide stance, and his tail was working overtime to make adjustments to keep his balance intact.

Drejak’s next topic of concern was the issue of their momentum. Drejak, a heavier fighter, was using descending momentum, which worked with the forces of gravity, to drop himself viciously upon Adaire in the form of a clawing strike. His upper body was moving forward and slightly downward since he was crouched now, but his overall momentum would still be descending due to the flow of his crouch that brought him to neutralize the advantage of her lowered position in the first place. Adaire’s momentum was based off her either just-above average or somehow otherwise limited human strength defying gravity, with a smaller mass to throw around. If she thought that her 114lb rising body would actually overpower Drejak’s descending 248lb frame (the size difference is astounding; he weighs OVER twice as much as she does. What were the judges thinking?), she must have swallowed too much salt water when she went skipping into the ocean after being introduced to his earth-manipulating capability.

It stood to reason with Drejak that there was indeed no way she could overpower his right arm in this scenario. He had a monumental advantage in momentum, an established base for balance, and superior strength. Adaire’s left arm wasn’t going to be “checking” anything. She might grab his wrist and let her fingers “close loosely” around it, but he would just power through that feeble attempt at defying physics and block her knife-wielding arm.

Drejak’s mind reeled as he completed his analysis within an elapsed time of less than a second. Whenever that happened, it was like everything slowed down around him, and then came rushing back all at once in a blur of action. Were he not already dedicated to blocking a knife and attempting an arm-lock, he would have instead taken his impressive strength and back-handed this woman for her foolishness. That might not be a bad idea, actually. Red’s head might snap to the side and score him a knockout. There was still that knife, though, and he had to deal with that first. Pity, really.

Drejak’s actions should have carried through as he originally intended. He would block her knife arm, with his forearm, and then through the laws of physics her left hand would then grab his wrist and attempt to move his arm out of the way, and possibly set her up for a second stab or slash attempt, if she was even willing to attempt that. He would fight against that pull, which would divert him from attempting the arm lock, and his left arm continued on its merry way to meet her lower back. Should she not grab his wrist and somehow redirect her actions within the time frame of a previous reaction(yet again), he would either adjust and attempt to defend against this new reaction or continue to try to achieve the arm lock against her right arm. He wouldn’t earn the pleasure of gaining control of her back by sinking his claws into her flesh around her spine, though.

This was due to the fact that when Red brought her left arm forward, the rest of her body would have turned slightly. What purchase this provided Drejak was his claws ripping through the side of her bathing suit and digging four trenches in her flesh below her ribs on her right side. She would bleed from the wound, but it wouldn’t be anywhere near fatal. Hell, he couldn’t even disembowel her with this swipe of his claws. How disappointing. There was a bright side, though. His left arm would be free to retract, which it did as part of the natural follow-through of the swipe anyway, instead of being committed to a loose hold of Red’s back.

So, when and if her kick came for his jaw, Drejak would elevate his left arm in front of his face to absorb and block the force of the strike. Her boot would meet his forearm, and with the strength that he clenched his fist, his tightened muscles would additionally protect his bones from the kick that wasn’t a “breaking kick” to begin with. Bruising would occur, at the most. He would then push his arm outward against her boot and try to force her leg to swing back down away from him.

Drejak’s right arm was not about to be controlled by her “loose” grasp. The wolf would tug against her grasp and attempt to twist his wrist to allow his fingers to wrap around her forearm. With the thickness of his muscle mass and the apparent looseness of her grasp, should she still decide to obtain and hold it, it would be easy for him to break free and make the attempt. His eyes reverted to watching the knife, either just after the kick issue was resolved or immediately after the block (depending on what reaction she carried through).

Drejak’s further actions would depend on what happened with Adaire’s current actions and the results thereof. With her recent attempt to defy logic, he very well couldn’t expect her to be predictable, and needed a couple fractions of a second to get his mind completely back on track. He was ready to actually DEAL SOME DAMAGE to Adaire, instead of playing cat and mouse with her. Perhaps wolf and hare would have been better to think of.

Should Drejak grasp her left forearm or wrist, pain would follow in one of many various ways. His left hand was readied as a defense against a follow-up from her bowie or perhaps another kick, or ready to strike out again should she open a door for him. With her seemingly as off balanced as she might have been with either an un-established base via her right foot, or her right foot swinging back from his block, and the potential of Drejak gaining some control of Red’s left arm, he could think of several things to do to her in that moment of recoil.

A couple of considerations floated through Drejak's mind. Obviously, Adaire had seen his previous fight, but she hadn’t really learned anything about fighting him, apparently. Sephiroth hadn’t had any luck at all in dealing with Drejak in the wolf’s primal combat range. What really made this woman, a foot shorter and less than half Drejak’s weight, think she had a chance where a man much closer to being on an even physical playing field with Drejak had failed? Her agility and balance were good, but perhaps she was the one being overly confident in her abilities. Next on his mind was her stubborn tactic of staying close to him and keeping herself in a dangerous place. She had scored the kick against his leg and weakened his knee, and thus his mobility. Why hadn’t she taken that and run with it? Literally. She could have avoided so much danger had she just retreated after landing the blow and hindering Drejak. Then she could have lured and zoned against him with her knife.

There were so many other ways this fight could have gone, and many of them worse for Drejak than the situation he was in, now. Dealing with melee weapons and trained fighters had been part of his life since he was seven human years old. He was twenty-two years into his life’s journey. She had caught him off guard a couple of times, but her capabilities and methods were far from new to Drejak. So, really, he was thankful for the way she was trying to fight him. It was bold, and courageous, if a bit unprecedented.

And Red might want to watch her footing.

She was still within the five foot circle of exposed stone. Chunks of wood that Drejak had deliberately cleared from that space floated in the water and littered the edges of the arena. His purpose for that effort had yet to be revealed, but the effort was not a waste. He could assure her of that.

You will not defeat me, woman. I will be victorious. I have to win, for Shadow.

Taking issue with about all of the following

((I will not be posting further until some differences with my opponent have been worked out. That said, there seem to be what are possibly differences of an irreconcilable nature. I think my conduct, movements, and strategy have been sound throughout these last couple posts, but others may think otherwise. Nor do I think I will convince my opponent that my moves were sound at this point, according to what I read above.

So, I ask for ruling on my conduct in this fight, if I have done anything that is auto-anything, or have defied physical laws with my actions, I want to be able to give my opponent his stated goal of any attack where I have godmodded a resistance.

Attempting to resolve this via PM. When this issue is resolved this post will be erased.))

Grisaang Duskwing
1) I had mild concerns about the avoidance of Drejak's "Earth Spike" ability. We continued the roleplay beyond that, but I feel Adaire should have taken at least some damage from that attack. Reasons and arguments why are contained within the following pm's. This is of minor concern in comparison to the rest of the dispute, but if this attack had dealt damage like I feel it should have, the entire fight would have either ended after that attack, or would have played out very differently up to the point we are at now.

2) The dispute we're really having right now is with Adaire's reaction to Drejak descending and slashing at her with his left arm. We're disputing because I don't think Adaire's actions and reactions at this point will develop properly in the time frame Adaire is trying to execute them in. My problem with the actions and reactions is that MerDef feels that Adaire will be able to start slash with her knife, react fast enough to accelerate her left hand faster than and beyond her already moving right hand, to overpower and remove Drejak's block against her knife swing, and then have the knife continue in the original swing to intercept Drejak's left arm.

- Drejak swings his arm down.
- Adaire swings draws her knife from its position on her left hip, and swings out to slash and intercept Drejak's left arm.
- Drejak sees the knife drawn and the swing begin, and then moves his right fist, which is chambered near his jaw, into a vertical block against Adaire's forearm.
- In mid-swing with the knife, Adaire then attempts to move her left arm fast enough to grab near Drejak's wrist, overpower his arm, and move his arm out of the way in time for the already-in-progress swing with her right arm to progress without incident.

I don't think she can execute that "check" maneuver against Drejak's arm quickly enough to let the swing continue without any form of interruption, because her right arm is already in motion, at nearly a full speed swing, in order to intercept Drejak's left arm. If she can't intercept his swing, his claws would tear into her flesh.

So, I think Flayer's first concern is, indeed, justified. I really want to say she got clipped in the a** by the spike and got bruised a nice one and just hasn't noticed yet, but given that both people have pretty much gone with it already, I'm not going to force it on anyone to accept that... though if you do take it, there won't be any difference in the "Dominance" section, where I record damage.

So, onto the big issue. Reading it for relevancy.

Merf: she sprung up to attack, going forward with her hands on guard. Her fists were loose, the left hovering in front of the left side of her waist, just above the curve of her hips. The right fist was angled in front of her chest... as she closed his space her right arm went underneath his left fist and she raised her forearm, sort of pushing his arm up and out of the way if she had the strength... Her left palm remained centered to counter any blows from his right.

Flayer: Red was easily a foot shorter than he was, and as such, she barely had to stoop in order to get her forearm and body weight to press up against his stance. Her deflection, combined with her forward momentum, opened a sort of neutral ground for the two... As she deflected his left fist and moved into the sternum punch she was looking for, Drejak's body stepped into its own motions. His left fist opened as his right foot slid back behind his left to pivot Drejak's entire body almost parallel with Red's as she punched. Her fist would connect with his stomach, but due to the turning of his body the blow would glance and her fist wouldn't find a solid purchase... The inch-long claws that tipped Drejak's fingers and had been concealed within his clenched fists would come into play as he countered... Drejak’s right hand, which was still up near his jaw/neck, moved first. His fingers opened, and the extremity shot forward to attempt to lock a vice-like grip on the bicep of Red’s right arm, which was essentially right in front of Drejak at this point... the painful part would be Drejak’s inch-long claws digging into the skin and muscle tissue of her unprotected body.

Merf: There was a better reason why her right side was presented with her right foot leading by the time the punch landed. Because her punch would no more than glance when it would retreat, but not backwards, downwards. So she could lower herself on her haunches...As she went down her torso would lean back and her left hand would become a support, simultaneously her tucked right leg would come up parallel with her body and slam forward for the left knee that Drejak had openly presented by shifting his position parallel to hers... The ball of her right foot would fly forward, and the tip of her boot would land with enough force to smash a human knee-cap or at least distend some ligaments if it hit at all... Crouch down, arch back, launch foot for low breaking kick, retract foot: Time elapsed > 1 second.

Less than a second?

Yeah, no. I understand the abilities, as I read your profile for part of this, but at least a second. Maybe more, but see above about knowing the powers.

Merf: Her right hand had retracted and was resting open just hovering above her sheathed blade.

Flayer: As Red’s kick came flying out for Drejak’s left knee, he was able to pivot on his right foot to turn his toes towards her... his weight shifted to his right leg. He let his left leg take part of the blow, but he would bend his right knee first, just as she kicked. The bend of his knee would lower his position just slightly, so instead of her kick finding his patella, her boot’s sole found the top of his thigh and sent his leg flinging back behind him and out from under him. Drejak’s tail shifted and pivoted to help him keep proper balance on his right foot as his body... By the time she brought her leg all the way back, she would be staring at his well-defined abdomen... Drejak’s left hand came down with immense force simultaneously as he dropped. His fingers were held rigidly half-curled to make all the claws face her back as he swung his arm out over her and then brought his palm towards her backside... His right hand hadn’t extended much in the grab attempt he had made, but he was still retracting that hand from the miss. Drejak’s actions and reactions were quick and decisive, and almost paralleled Red’s speed and agility... Should the blow connect, which Drejak strongly saw it doing since Red’s body was nearly parallel with the ground and he was pretty much pinning her body between his front and his hand behind her, his claws would tear straight through her bathing suit and sink into the flesh in the small of her back... and then his fingers would flex their brutal grasp to sink the claws in farther... Whether his claws found her back or some other portion of her body, Drejak’s right hand would have chambered back near his jaw by now. He knew Red wasn’t helpless, and he could see her right hand hovering for that split second near her knife’s hilt... Drejak’s right hand was ready to spring into action, defensively or offensively, and his lips curled as he snarled at her and barred his fangs.

Merf: As his arm came down, her torso would be angling up from the kicking position.

GRAMMAR FAIL. I just like pointing it out, so you improve. Also, I'm a d**k.

Merf: The middle of the blade would hopefully meet his wrist as her arm flew outwards. It would keep his claws from reaching her backside if successful, parrying his arm upwards as she snapped back upwards and bounced to her feet. While bouncing up, Red would slash the blade outward horizontally to leave a deep gash sideways across his arm. Just as the blade was sliding out of his arm she would back step to reset for the next strike

Flayer: Red's arm extended into the slash, and Drejak's right arm moved to meet hers...right fist elevated. Forearm's

GRAMMAR FAIL LOLOL

Flayer: would clash, the knife slash would be blocked. If she was trying to rise, she might find it incredibly difficult to do so. If he could accomplish this reactive arm-entrapment, Drejak would neutralize her knife altogether unless she managed to somehow get it into her left hand...Drejak's left arm would travel unimpeded regardless of whether or not he caught her arm, because he had still blocked it. His fngers would bathe in the warmth of her blood and his claws would gouge into the softness of her bathing-suit-clad flesh. Four punctures would form on the left side of her lower spine, and one on the right side.... If her arm wound up trapped within his grasp, Drejak could easily fight her attempt to rise by simply applying his greater weight to that side of his body. If he had to do so, he would bring his left foot forward as he tilted towards his right to keep her on the ground. The girl was too dangerous on her feet. Drejak had to capitalize here and now.

...*read read read* You're lucky I read around 1800 WPM, you verbose b*****d. Seriously man, you're competing with me for king of WALLS OF TEXT and nobody but me has read the front page of the BSB.

I need music.

Merf: Red wasn't so slow that she was still back in the firing position for the breaking kick, which didn't seem to have too much effect slowing him down.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Merf: as her left palm would check Drejak's right arm a few inches above the wrist, her fingers would close loosely, and her knife would fly unimpeded to it target. It was facing downward in the sheath, meaning that when standing up the blade pointed toward the ground and the rear. This meant no flipping of the blade would be needed, as it would come out facing toward her opponent and fly out to catch his left wrist exactly as intended.

...I'm not reading this anymore. I don't want to read more HERP DERP FASTER THAN YOU or WALLOTEXT CHAINATTACK. THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT BE... uh... I'll get back to you on that one.

But okay, seriously, Merf, be less fast. Flayer... you're precise, but my eyes are bleeding. For the sake of flow, just try to cut down on actions per post or something. Just, please less text. XD

...okay, I lied, I kept reading, I'm not that bad. But, I'm just stopping here.

TL;DR, JUDGEMENT:

Merf derps and falls on her a**, backwards, doesn't magically bounce off of it into a kick, the knife goes flying off somewhere outta reach, and FRAGILE was a listed flaw which I am not seeing in reaction to getting hit.

Flayer's grapple/claw thing just misses because logic. He's... whatever distance they were away plus a few feet from her falling.

I EXPECT COMPLAINTS FROM EVERYONE.

THAT MEANS YOU.]
