If someone ever tried to protect her from the world, she'd jump in their faces with 'I probably have more worldly experience than you do'. She knew life wasn't all roses and warmth. Living meant suffering. The two went paw in paw together. Nothing could tell her differently. But with suffering came wisdom and strength, if one didn't kill themselves because of too much of it. Which she clearly hadn't.
When he spoke, Lipi eyed him and nodded. "You can get over here and curl up with me. You look a lot warmer than I feel." She managed that sentence without stuttering. Sure, she spoke slow so she wouldn't stutter, but what did it matter? She moved up a small hill and settled herself at the top, leaving enough room for him. What was there to lose by sharing body heat? Nothing. She gained warmth, and so did he.
Selfishly, though, she wanted to know what it was like to have a male wrapped around her. She never knew what that was like, even her father had chosen not to get to close. Which was fine. She didn't much care for her father, anyway. "Hurry up, Muscar."

Had she shared her philosophy with him, Muscardini would have disagreed. Living meant that sometimes one suffered, but there was a lot of time spent in roses and warmth, too. At least, when things were well between him and Gliri. He had never really wanted for anything in those times. Even when neither of them felt quite safe, it had been good as long as they were together.
"Of course," Muscar said, hastening to the hillock and arranging himself so that his body more or less wrapped around hers. She was differently proportioned and shaped than his twin, and their bodies didn't fit together as perfectly, but it definitely wasn't unpleasant to be so close to someone else, someone who wasn't his sister.
Some cats might claim that wet fur was an unpleasant smell, but as he lay around Lipi, Muscar observed that hers was not so. The dampness of her fur only made the scent which was uniquely hers more obvious. It was odd, how aware of her he felt. Or maybe it wasn't. Either way, he was very aware of her.
"Better?" he asked.

When he wrapped around her smaller body, Lipi almost didn't contain her sigh of contentment. Almost.
She shifted slightly to get comfortable while still pressed against him. Of course she wanted to get all the heat she could from the male! Who wouldn't? If one was freezing like she was, the best way was body heat. A shudder ran through her as the wind blew again and she seemed to get even smaller. Definitely not something she wanted to repeat; getting in the water when she well knew it was freezing. Still, it had been... fun? she supposed. She hadn't had fun since.... well, the night she got pregnant, as horrible as it was to say that.
Lipi didn't go out of her way for fun. She didn't go out of her way for a lot of things. Companionship was one of them, seeking a pride was another. The make-shift pride she was in; she just happened to stumble upon it while making her way through the lands. Something about staying in one place too long didn't sit right with her. Not unless she had a reason too.
"Much better. Now... I'm going to sleep. ....You should too." Truth was, she didn't want to loose his warmth.

Muscar could feel that Lipi continued to be cold, though he was a veritable furnace, and let her arrange herself to be more comfortable. She was small, like an adolescent. That's what he'd thought she was at first, he remembered. He knew better now, but there were still some things about her which struck him as being very childlike, though not necessarily childish. He smiled to himself and let his chin come to rest on her back.
"Sleep?" Muscar murmured. "All right."
He wasn't sure he could. At first he'd thought that having the proximity and companionship would make it easier for him to sleep, but now that he was curled around Lipi, all he could think of was how unlike his sister she was, despite their similarities in size and build. She smelled nothing like Gliri, and the way she smelled was extremely pleasant to him. He wanted very much to nuzzle her neck, along her jaw where her scent would be stronger, or at the base of her spine, where scent was also strong.
Muscar tried to distract himself by guessing whether she had warmed up sufficiently, but with his nostrils filled by her scent, he remembered only too clearly how attractive he had found her in those first moments they'd met. He had resorted to humor and automatically shifting himself into the category of a not-unpleasant acquaintance, but now he found himself wishing he'd gone about this differently. He should have told her how attractive she was, even if it had just been in passing.
Taking the chance that she was one of those people who could fall asleep quickly, Muscar whispered, "You're beautiful."

Once more, she found herself wishing she could read minds. The small female knew that he wasn't sleeping, or had any intentions of it right now, but she wanted to know why. Was he that uncomfortable with her? Did he want to bolt, but didn't want to disobey her constant orders she was giving him? She frowned a bit, her head on her paws and eyes closed.
Idly, her tail flicked against her stomach as she thought, not realizing it was. As she continued to question the reason Muscar wasn't sleeping, she yawned and tilted her head so her cheek was now on her paw instead of her chin and sighed a bit more. At length she stopped her tail from moving and the thoughts from overtaking her head and just relaxed. All her muscles relaxed and she was so close to sleep. So close, indeed. Normally she would be asleep by now, but she hadn't slept like this since... well, ever. Not with another so close.
Even the father of her two sons hadn't stayed the night with her. That was for the better, she realized a long time ago. If he had stayed,s he doubted very much that he would be much help in raising two boys.
Just as sleep laced over her like a blanket, she heard two words from her companion. Two words she didn't think shed ever hear. But she was too far gone to acknowledge them right now. Perhaps when she woke up.
