Discovering Sylthfarn ♂ . . . C H A P T E R ♪ B E G I N N I N G . . .

Unexpected arrival

It was a curious thing, the entity we called fate. Serah's hands sifted through the sand near a mining cave in the far side of the country. Each trade had their own sources of supplies which they kept as a life-worthy secret, only to be passed on from master to apprentice. After all, unrefined stones and ores were quite the valuable secret. One always had their own supply, whether they hired someone to provide them with said supply or found their own supplies. Serah knew the risks of looking for a supplier, someone who might offer her fake stones or low quality ones-- how hard it was to find someone whom she could trust. A nearly impossible task, concluding the reason why she went to get them herself.

This time she had an order of ores and seashells, materials that could easily be found if one knew where to look. As one quoted, it was strange "the existence of objects if those looked for it." Without keen observance and a sharp eye, the existence of such articles would be lost and ignored, fading into the oblivion of non-existence.

She tucked the shells into her small pouch that she kept at her waist, Serah sought the gems she needed to fulfill the client's order. Fingers fumbled through the rock wall, fingers feeling for any sign of ores hidden within the rocks. She felt satisfaction rise when she glimpsed the color of the ore, barely discernible from the rocks that surrounded it. Tools aided the escape of the ore from it's natural confinement, several stones falling into Serah's pouch. A little more wouldn't hurt in terms of refilling her supply.

That thought was the one that filled her pouch and kept Serah in the save from sunrise until sunset. By the time she realized how late it was, the light pierced through the cave, shining on an object. Whoa-- if that was a gem, it'd certainly be a giant one!

But it wasn't a gem.

Instead of disappointment, a curiosity filled her as she dug the shining object out of the ground. It was.. a yellow bottle? Although the depth it was buried into and the conditions around the bottle revealed that the bottle had been hidden for a long period of time, the bottle shined and glimmered with a sparkle that was like new. Serah's fingers ran over the rounded sides of the bottle, the glowing lyre shining even brighter upon warm contact. It was quite the curious.. discovery. Even as Serah tried to figure it out, she knew one conclusion was absolute. It wasn't material to be sold-- it was far too rare and precious. Her hands cupped the bottle to her chest, feeling a sense of comfort within the bottle. It shined even more when the salt water lightly rolled over it, cleaning any trace of dirt or dust left behind, Serah sat next to it, washing her ores and tools.

How strange. Perhaps she could ask around when she got back. It was even stranger, how often Serah roamed this cave and had never seen it before. She wasn't one to normally miss or look over such an obvious detail. Almost as it were waiting.. or biding it's time?

But if her mind turned to such thoughts, Serah must have been letting the sun get to her. Perhaps the sun was?

Serah woke up to a bright yellow glow throughout the house. It was abnormally bright, stirring her from her deep sleep. She clutched her blanket, throwing it over her face to create a darker cover. Unfortunately, the light seemed to shine even brighter, as if sensing her efforts. The faint sound.. of music was playing? Unfortunately, Serah was in a foul mood, shoving off her covers with the greatest reluctance, her ears never registering the slight sound. She threw the glowing object with a vengeance down to the garden below, the glass landing with a soft "thud" in the dirt. Perhaps she should have thought more carefully as to the cause of the bright glow of the lamp-- or if the lamp was really a lamp at all.

... Because the object she threw down was definitely not her gas lamp. The poor object would have been extinguished from contact with the ground below. It continued glowing, dimming ever so slightly. Several long moments would pass as the irate young woman looked down her window, her blurry vision finally focusing on the lamp. She stared at it with great intensity, trying to clear her fog-clouded mind.

Why wasn't it burning?

Because it wasn't a bloody lamp. It was the bottle she had found on the beach some time ago. Glowing. Her eyes widened as she ran downstairs, to pick up the bright lamp. Unfortunately, it seemed to pulse blindingly upon touch, as if displaying a presentation of wrath.

In fact, it burned. The music notes hit her hands in a painful fashion, as if pricking her. She struggled to keep a hold on it, finally dropping it on her bed after a very long journey upstairs, precariously juggling it along the way. "Bloody hell, you don't have to emphasize your point. Can't you see, this is half of your fault? If you hadn't gone off like a tiny firework---" Apparently it took great offense to the word "tiny," the bottle shining blindingly bright once more. It hurt her vision, still used to the black color of the night. "--- I got it, I got it!" Serah repeated with exasperation. She was soon sitting next to the bottle on her bed, a deepening frown growing on her expression. If the bottle had one, it'd likely be a frown as well.

A frown set in stone at the moment.

She stiffly set her hand in a chopping motion, hitting the bottle. Punishment. It was a gentle chop but firm, meeting the glass with a 'clink,' the music notes swirling around harmlessly now. She studied it for a moment before remarking with a helpless smile, crossing her legs. "After all this time, I've finally got a reaction out of you, huh." She stared down at the dim bottle, sitting complacently on the pillow. She sighed, her hand traveling down her sleepy expression, the other pulling a blanket over her feet.

"Can we both mutually go to sleep and settle this in the morning? Believe me, I think it's great you're glowing and all but this is in the middle of the night." She asked the bottle tiredly, as if it was about to answer. It didn't, naturally. It glowed rebelliously, still churning out a melody of soft music notes. The notes would eventually lure the female to a deep sleep once more.. and the bottle would darken gradually, as if settling into slumber itself behind the female's back, covered in blankets.

Note, it only darkened after it was sure Serah had fallen asleep. After keeping her awake a good long while.
