With her attention focused on the edge of the water Sauda took a few steps away from Tirin looking for anything that caught her eye. There were some rocks here and there, but there was nothing special about them, just plain grey rocks. His question caught her off guard and she lifted her head to look at him. What would she like if it was her they were looking for. It was a valid question but certainly not one that she had been expecting. "Well I suppose, something unique. Perhaps a rock with an unusual pattern to it, or a shell. Something that you wouldn't find every day." That's what made gifts special after all, was not just that someone was giving you an object but that that object was special and unique in some way.

He hadn't thought of a shell. Tirin beamed at Sauda for a moment before wading deeper into the stream with encouraged inspiration. Snails had shells, right? Would a snail abandon its shell in a river? Birds ate snails, so maybe he could find one of those...

"Do they have lots of rivers where you're from?" It made sense in his mind. "Shells are rare here. We don't have many shelled things in the lake."

Or, it seemed, in the river. Tirin turned a rock over with his paw, unconsciously making his way over to Sauda as he inspected the bottom of the stream. There were plenty of things to look at, but nothing fetching enough to hold his interest long. He didn't want to cross the river either. He'd traveled far enough out for one day, that he didn't want to risk going any further.

It wasn't until he acknowledged the dark fur in his peripheral vision that he realized he was almost shoulder-to-shoulder with Sauda. He looked over in surprise, his ears perked forward. When had that happened?

"Oh yes, there were quite a few rivers where I used to live. At least there seemed to be compared to here." Eyes returned to the river to try to see if there was anything of interest to see. So far it was just water, sand and a couple of not very interesting rocks. Nothing that she thought would prove to be an interesting find for him to bring back to his sister. Of course her searching was brought to a halt when she suddenly realized something was very close to her that was quite dark in color. Glancing up she realized that Tirin was standing practically right beside her and for a moment she wasn't sure what to say or do. Her mouth opened to say something but no words wanted to come out. Mentally she was cursing herself for being so speechless over such a minor thing. Jaws snapped shut for a moment and then after a moment she was finally able to speak. "I haven't spotted anything here, perhaps we should try to look further down stream?" Well that's not exactly what she wanted to say, however it was the best way to not make herself look like a fool.

Tirin was glad to move past Sauda's tongue-tied behavior, because he was beginning to get nervous that he was about to react the same way. Better to try to push past it as much as possible. He looked back to the stream moments after she did and carefully moved a few steps away under the pretense of investigating the bottom again.

"That sounds like a good idea." He walked out of the water and, ignoring the wet paws-plus-sand combination, trotted downstream a bit, keeping his eyes on the water.

Sure enough, something glittered, and without a second thought Tirin plunged in, splashing water up around him as he went. He stopped and let the ripples he had made settle back into the natural current of the stream, only finding what his eye had caught on once they had gone. He plunged his head underwater and wrapped his teeth around the large stone, carefully tugging it from the mud of the riverbed. His head-- soaked fur matted down to his face and skull-- appeared for a moment, and then his muzzle went back under the water briefly to rinse the stone of any lingering mud. When he turned back to Sauda on the shore, he was a smiles and he was barely restraining vigorous tail-wagging.

He pranced back out of the water and set the stone down near her, stepping back to watch the light catch on the glittery pieces of silver in the rock. It probably wasn't so pretty when it was dry, but that was what the lake was for. It would do for today.

"I think... this is it," he announced unnecessarily.

With the awkward moment now ending Sauda could breath a sigh of relief. Honestly she didn't know why she felt so weird about it, they were just two wolves enjoying the afternoon away from the pack helping each other out. Well not exactly, she was helping him find something for his sisters, where as he - well she supposed he was providing her company that she wouldn't have otherwise had. And he was pleasant company after all.

Those thoughts had been enough to distract her while Tirin traveled a bit further down river. When she looked about for him Sauda spotted him plunging his head under the water. Well he must have either found something interesting or going to extreme lengths to avoid another close encounter. But then when he lifted his head back up she could see that he was holding something in his jaws. The silver rock glinted in the sun as he made his way back towards her. She couldn't help but smile at his exuberance. Glancing down at the rock as he set it on the ground she gave it a good look over. "I'm sure your sister will love it." She stated and then looked up at him. Seeing the water drip off his fur made her smile, he looked like a drowned rat. "Shall we head back then?"

With her approval, his tail became a victory flag, waving without heed for how undignified he must look. He scooped the rock up in his jaws, their previous uncomfortable moment already forgotten. Alya would be so pleased.

"A'soluly," he mumbled around the stone, and began walking back into the woods, slowly enough that she could fall into step beside him. He could calm his excitement enough not to be rude to the wolf who had helped him, after all. "'ack 'e go."
