'Okay.' Marut replied, her voice slightly muffled as her head had fallen again. She thought that he was telling her a small white lie, for he'd muttered the words as if he'd very much meant them. If he was than surely he was only doing so out of concern for her and she was grateful for that. She didn't want to think of anything else really - but wanted to think of everything else as well but this.
'Yes?' she said, her head rising again, eyes dragging open to look at her mate.
'Oh yes, yes you're right.' she nodded fervently. Of course it was with faintly selfish reasons that she agreed so quickly, she didn't want to break the news, utter the words again.
'Yes.' she repeated, pulling herself to her hooves finally, leaning against the only stable thing around as she sure as heck wasn't.
'What do we do..' she murmured, her words tailing off. What did they do if what Sylph had said was true? She'd never experienced a bereavement, and found herself lost, falling and not knowing where she'd stop.

He could be glad for small favours, her acceptance of his request was of great relief. It bought him time and more importantly it would give her the opportunity to gather her thoughts, composure and figure out what she wanted to do. Unfortunately he knew in the very depths of his mind that he was suffering from denial, but his overriding role as a loving father silenced it almost completely. He refused to accept that one of his children had been lost, not until he had exhausted every single option he had.
He was lost to his own thoughts for a short while and only lifted his head when he felt the probing question reach his ears. His gaze fixed on his mate and then he released a heavy sigh. It was a loaded question and for one who always seemed to have an answer, one wasn't immediately forthcoming. It was rather strange how easy it was to silence an individual through shock, Raniero was certain he would have been fascinated if he was an observer.
"We take things one step at a time," he replied finally and cleared his throat. "I look for her first, I make sure the news is definitely true," he sucked in a breath and nudged at his mate. "When we know for definite then we'll work things out. If we have to tell the children then we'll do it together, if the news turns out to be false then they don't need to know anything about it and we can both take a very..."
He paused and shook his head.
"A very long break," he croaked tiredly.

She'd gone numb now, her emotions not under control but it was too painful to carry on feeling them. And she had to at least outwardly appear as if everything was normal in case her other two children happened on her, or them at an unexpected moment. And if she carried on the way she had been it would cause more pain as Raniero had to leave her to start his search.
'I'm going to..' she started saying and then stopped, her sentence unfinished for the moment as Marut looked blank for a moment. She came back to herself and carried on speaking.
'I am going to stay with my Mother for a time.'
She at least could speak with Neve if she couldn't tell her children, and she had to talk to someone. And if Marut wasn't around her son and daughter than they wouldn't see the pain in her eyes or hear the sadness in her voice. And she wouldn't have to lie.

If Aedan or Chatura queried the absence of their mother, Raniero would come up with a reasonable excuse. To be perfectly honest, all they needed to know was that she had gone to visit her mother, they were of an age now where this wouldn't seem quite so strange. More to the point, Marut was a mare of her own being and didn't need to be joined at Raniero's hip to get things done. Her decision to visit her mother would be perfectly acceptable and perhaps, it would also be for the best...
He gave a nod to show his support, nosing her neck ever so gently to let her know that he considered this to be a most wise decision. Her mother could care for her, her mother could console her and more importantly for Raniero - she wouldn't have to witness the rather brutal arguments he suspected he would have with his father. Things needed to be said, Paramekia had to understand what he had done and Marut definitely didn't need to hear the brutal truths that would escape Raniero's lips.
...He loved his mate, but he also knew what his father wa capable of.
What he had planned.
"I think Neve would enjoy the company, it has been a while since you last visited her and one might say she would be glad to see you," he murmured. His smile was tight, but he gave it all the same, if there was one thing he was good at, it was hiding his own feelings. "And a breather would be good, I would prefer you weren't alone in my absence..."

'You'll be leaving right away.' Marut asked. Well it was more than a statement really. She didn't want him to go, but he had to, he had to find their daughter - or some sign of..again she bit off the end of that sentence, not wanting to think it. At all.
She looked up at him and pressed her nose against his.
'Be safe, please.'
Nothing could happen to him on top of what had already, possibly happened and so for a moment she stood with closed eyes, inhaling his scent.
'I love you.' she whispered, breaking away and turning on her hooves before she let her emotions get the better of her, starting the short journey to her birth home on shaky limbs.
