Laughter rang out from her maw as she quickly hopped away from him. If he was going to try and catch her she was going to make it as hard as possible for him to do so. "Ooooh," she cooed, "that's some big talk there, how about we see some action." She was inching closer to one of the caved in walls of one of the buildings.

She glanced in briefly to make sure she'd be able to dart in if she needed to. There were some bigger, broken chunks but nothing that looked like it would give way under her weight easily, or anything that could kill her. "You're so on!" she chirped tail flicking happily. "I bet you I'm gonna win," she stated confidently.

She had spent her whole life living with sand, she knew how to run on it very well and sure he might know the terrain better than her but she was a quick learner. He wouldn't know it better for too much longer! "Okay, okay, but no playing dirty alright?" she told him trotting over to his side.

"Big talk, big talk?" he asked, a brow quirked playfully as he tried to keep up with her. "My friend, I don't talk big, I can perform, you'll see," he said, and it was in a sense true. He always went all-out in his dances, and he was light on his toes. He was getting used to the sand, and he knew the area quite well. Yes, yes he was sure that he had the advantage, and his confidence showed in his tone of voice. He padded over to the nearest ruin, where he had a feeling she was about to dart away. A preview of her capabilities, perhaps?

"I think you're wrong. Do you want to really bet? Maybe the loser of the race has to give their subsequent kill to the winner?" he asked, wondering if putting something on the line would make it even more interesting.

"And I wouldn't be showing you around if I was gonna play dirty," he said. Though, that didn't mean he was going to show her all of the nooks and crannies about, but he would let her get the lay of the land. If she wanted to find those, she'd have to come back here later on her own time and find them.

Zurina found herself laughing at her companion easily. She loved the fact that he played along with her so easily and without hesitation either. It made spending time with him all that more enjoyable. The purple striped female was proud to call the cream colored lion her friend. She wouldn't have it any other way. "Is that so?" she asked cocking her head with a playful grin on her lips. "Well I'll just have to see that for myself then won't I?" she teased sticking her tongue out at him.

"Well," she started as she inched closer to the opening. She moved as subtly as possible. "We could do that or we could up the stakes," she suggested devilishly as she suddenly sprung through the opening before he could reply. She carefully balanced herself on the broken stones before peeking her head back through the opening.

"Challenge me Haku! Prove to me that you can beat me!" She called to him quirking a brow as a challenge. "Come and get me~"

"Oh yeah, it's totally so," he said smoothly with a grin. He gave a small headtilt as she spoke- "Up the stakes? You bet I'm game for upping stakes," he responded. At the sound of a challenge, something cub-like rose up in him again- a challenge with a certainly worthy foe!

One that he wouldn't mind winning, either.

"You're on!" he said, bounding after her happily, knowing she would take off as soon as he twitched. She didn't know her way around, but he did. The ruins could appear to have no landmarks, but be repetitive destroyed walls, he was sure that he'd have an advantage.

But sand was different than solid ground. Sure, he'd gotten used to it to dance on, but he wasn't so sure that he had realized how different it would be to run on it... It absorbed his energy quickly, it was kind of a pain. He pondered whether he could run atop the edges of the wall ruins, but decided that it was too slim, and he couldn't afford to sprain anything.

No, Haku's one advantage would have to be his knowledge of the ruins layout. He was suddenly less confident that he'd have the upper paw in a race where she knew her way around. But no, he couldn't afford to give in that quickly! "Try this on for size," he said as he popped through a hole in a wall. Weaving through the alleyways may have seemed an inefficient way to go, but at least he didn't need to hurdle any walls or find any little holes in them. He circled around to where he thought she would pop out... Only hoping that his shortcut had been just that; shorter than the way she had taken.

Zurina was quite skilled at the art of sand running, it something easily acquired when you spent your life living by the ocean. She moved quick and surely across the sand waiting for him to spring along after her. She caught sight of him slipping in after her and she found herself laughing when she paused to watch him.

"It's not so easy now is it?" She teased as she sprung forward again. She made sure to take quick steps in order to prevent herself from sinking in too deep. She balanced her weight carefully as moved across the semi-unstable ground. "You may know the area better than I do but I've spent my whole life with the sand!" She called behind her as she jumped up on to a broken column.

She glanced around her before jumping through an opening in the ruin wall and there he was. She grinned, "Sneaky, sneaky but you still haven't caught me!" She threw herself back the way she came and dashed out onto the sand once again. "Come on!"

Haku had forgotten one important thing: this wasn't a race, it was a game of tag, more or less. His "quick" turn-around was absorbed by sand as his direction changed and the sand gave under his feet. He had taken note, however, of just how she was running and he tried to emulate it... To some amount of success, it was kinda like when you had to dance some quick hops...

Having tied that in, he managed to keep up alright. He hopped up onto the border of a wall, hopped to the next one, and then to the next building up, which had a corner of its roof remaining. Avoiding the sand altogether was equally advantageous, right?

"It's only a matter of time!" he said confidently as he leapt from the low top of that roof- he should land somewhere around her...

She laughed as he chased her out into the sand. She looked behind her to see him trying to copy her movements. "You're a quick learner but you've still got nothing on me!" she teased sticking her tongue out at him as she picked up her pace. Because she was focused on running away from him she didn't see him jump on to some 'solid' ground.

At this point Zurina was crossing just under the roof and was completely blindsided as he leapt down. She caught sight of him at just the last minute. Right before he landed on her.

"Eeeep!" She shrieked as his body collided with her. "Hakuuuuu!" She whined squirming beneath him.

And he was flyin'! And then... He wasn't. He looked down in time to see that, unfortunately, Zurina had unknowingly become his landing pad. "Watch out!" Haku cried as he fell back down to the sandy earth, but it was too late... He managed to cushion the force of his impact just a bit by shifting his weight to land more on one of his legs, it seemed to be the only one to hit the ground.

"And that's what happens when you challenge the master to catch you- you get caught," he said with a boyish grin as he smoothed back his mane.

"Aaand I'm not sure I wanna get off. You're quite comfortable, you know that, right?" he teased. He hadn't gotten up, but he did shift some of his weight off of her, supporting himself more than just sitting there.

Zurina pouted nearly glaring up at him. He just got lucky. Once she knew the area better he'd never be able to catch her. She was too quick for him. Today he was just lucky. "You just got lucky," she told him rolling on to her side(after struggling a bit to do so). She batted at his nose playfully as she smiled up at him.

He was fun.

"Oh yeah?" She asked cocking a brow. "I bet you're more comfortable than I am," she told him looking up at him. "You should let me test that theory," she joked flicking her tail back and forth against the sand.

"Oh yeah? Sounds like someone's a bit of a sore loser!" Haku said confidently. She was right, though... He had gotten lucky. He had a feeling she'd be much more formidable when she knew her way around... She was quicker running than he was. Sure, he could not get absorbed into the sands in place, but making some speed on them... That was a different skill set almost entirely! He'd get it someday, but he had a feeling it wouldn't be in time.

He squinted as she batted at his nose, trying to keep that paw from his eye, but he couldn't wipe the dorky grin off of his face.

"I'll bet I probably am, and I'm sure you would like to test it out..." he said, "if you can, that is." He smirked. "I'll even give you a bit of an advantage, if you want to try it," he said, lifting some of his weight. To the victor go the spoils, and he wasn't going to just flat out give them away, especially not to Zurina

"Oh," she began shaking her head. "I'm far from a sore loser silly boy," she told him tapping him lightly on the nose. "I'm just stating a fact," she stated rather smugly. She liked Haku, he was fun to be around and he played along with her. Exactly what she needed in a friend.

They were so going to be bffs.

"Oh, so you think that I can't beat you on my own?" She pouted as if the idea really offended her. "You under estimate me my friend," she stated with a small shake of her head. "That's something you'll come to regret," she warned just as she moved her foreleg to press against his neck before applying pressure and swinging her body to topple him over.

He blinked again when she tapped his nose and smirked. "Uh huh, uh huh," he said sarcastically with a few small nods. "I see how it is." Zurina... Well, she was unlike any other lioness he'd met. She had a sharp wit. Well sure, it's not like all of the lionesses he'd met were slow, he knew some with a decent wit- his sisters and half sisters could play along, but none quite as comfortably as Zurina was. She was confident and challenging, not to mention fun to be with; that made her different from everyone else.

"Yeah, yeah that's how it is!" Haku said happily, giving her the "C'mon and try it" eyebrow quirk.

He had felt her move her paw, though he wasn't entirely sure he had time to react to it. She applied pressure at the right point to pivot him, and as he shifted his weight, he quickly pondered the options... He could stagger about in the sand and stay on his paws after a couple of recoil steps... probably. Or he could just give it up and go down... which was more fun?

Standing up would end it, and he didn't want that. Haku let her push him over, though he was unsure of how much of that was I'll-let-you versus a genuine win on her part. After all, Haku was only a dancer, his muscles were tuned to specific movements, and holding ground and strength were not typically among his highest fortes.

He went down on his back, paws in the air. He let out a sigh and closed his eyes in mock-annoyance.

When he opened his rosy eyes, he spoke, "That hurt so bad Zurina, I can't believe how incredibly cold hearted you are!" He mustered the best glare he could, but the corner of his mouth curved into a smile, he couldn't help it.

Zurina was grinning as Haku's body followed her movements and he fell into the ground. She knew he had let her take him down so easily but she was fine with that because she knew she'd be able to do it anyway. She had full confidence in herself.

When he was on his back she took the opportunity to throw herself on top of him, carefully of course. She didn't put all of her weight on him, just enough so that he couldn't escape from her.

She frowned when he started to whine at her. He was trying to make it seem like she hurt him, which totally wasn't true. She didn't even put that much force into her initial attack. "Oh yeah?" She asked arching a brow as she grinned devilishly at him. "How about this?" She asked just before nipping at his ear. "Does that hurt really bad too?" she teased tugging on it.
PostPosted: Sun Aug 15, 2010 7:54 pm

He could tell by her smirk that she was happy with his decision too. Haku couldn't hold the grimace for long, it was soon replaced by a grin. He gave a few light squirms before he finally stopped moving and resigned himself. "Yeah, it was totally uncool. Totally."

But he hadn't expected her to go after his ear! He chuckled before managing "Zurina, it's torture! Oh, the pain!" He tried to get up to one of her ears, but it wasn't easy when your own ear was being held back.

And when you were on the bottom, that was only a little limiting too. Just a little. He gave up on that, though, figuring there was no way to get at it without trying to throw her off. That'd ruin all of the fun.

He hadn't had this much fun with someone other than Mat since he was a cub, it was really neat to find another person to "play" with at this age. And to think that that had been completely fine with him, to forego being able to wrestle with someone!

He went for a front leg, chewing on it instead. Muffled through his chewing, he muttered "Take that, you monster!"

"Mff!" She exclaimed as she tugged on his ear. She felt like she was winning, even if he was letting her win. That was okay because in her opinion, the female always won even when the male thought they won. She let go just long enough to wrinkle her nose at him and say something that wasn't muffled.

"You like the pain," she teased before snagging his ear back in her mouth. She nipped a bit harder and tugged on it again when he took one of her paws in his mouth. She frowned shaking her head, moving his ear at the same time, and used her free, non-chewed on, paw to thwack him playfully on the nose. "Mfm mm!" She mumbled trying to say "Nuh-uh!"

She then decided that she wanted to distribute more of her weight on him. To 'punish' him for trying to defy her and leaned more heavily into him. "Take that!"
