The mare's answer seemed like a whisper against the sound of the storm; the thunder, the rain smashing in to everything standing in its path, the wind howling and dancing around in a mix of rage and excitement. It was a wonder he could really pick up anything at all, but with what he did pick up it wasn't a surprise to him. If anything, he was expecting the answer. At least that was one thing he got right since he sure wasn't expecting the mare to actually be in the area when he returned.
Through his line of though he couldn’t help but wonder what the force that conjured up twists like these had in mind for the two of them. Was it to help them, break them, or simply to happen for its own humor? If it was the last then he would have to make a note to tell said force that it can just shove it and leave him the hell alone from now on, but such a comment would only encourage it to mess with him more that is already has.
Janus slowly followed behind Danari as they neared her cave, her home. Beyond his simple question he couldn’t really find anything else to say, and truthfully, he didn’t want to say much more at the moment. Though the silence was still, it would be for the best in a sense, because what could really be said at the moment? And if questions really did linger, and they did, how could they be brought up?

The mare stepped out of the rain, and into the darkness of her home. She paid no mind to Janus as she stepped further into the cave, not stopping until she reached a large bed of moss.
Anger had faded, giving way to exhaustion and sorrow. Not wanting to show either to stallion, she lowered herself onto the soft vegetation and closed orange eyes that had gone dull upon the anger fading away.
There was so much more that needed to be said, but words could wait until later. Until the storm outside had passed and the sun came out. When the world would be the exact opposite of the raging storm that slept within the mare.
Perched upon a rock, Iccarus watched as his charge laid to rest. And as the dark stranger entered their home. Though he'd never met the dark stallion, he knew who he was. And what his return could mean.

The large stallion slowly stepped within the cave, his movements slow and mixed with signed of caution and feeling of slight uncertainty about the whole ordeal unwrapping itself around the pair. Maybe things would have been better if he had never left in the first place, or even if he had come back sooner, but it was too late for that now, and things would just have to play out as life had planned it.
The sound of hooves clicking against the ground mixed in echo with the sound of the rain and thunder booming around outside. Rain was said to be a soothing lullaby for those wanting to relax and or find some sleep, but whomever said that surely did not take the rain of storms in to consideration when saying something like that.
With the droplets of rain slipping form his fur and hair, Janus stood in a spot near the entrance of the cave, his shielded eyes slowly bouncing between the outside world and the small creature that also called this place his home.
"....."
When Danari decided to call a squirrel her roommate and companion, he did not know, and really, part of him didn't really want to know...

For now, Iccarus chose to remain silent. But to get his opinion of the dark stallion across, he shook a small black fist in air while glaring at Janus with his crimson eyes.
Danari payed no mind to Iccarus' actions as she rested on the mossy bed. Wondering what the stallion would do. Would he make himself at home? Or would he stand there like a soldier, waiting for the storm to pass so that he could leave?
What would she do, if he left again?
The energy for words continued to evade her, so she didn't bother to try. Wordlessly, she shifted on her mossy bed. Making room for Janus to join her if he wanted.
If he accepted the offer, she imagined that it wouldn't change much. The anger would come back, but perhaps in a less explosive manner. If he didn't accept, well, there was no telling how she'd feel.

For now, Janus ignored the small creature glaring over at him. Right now, his attention was put on slipping his blindfold off. While he liked the protection is brought, and knew his eyes would sting from whatever light could get in to the cave, not the mention the pain from his eyes adjusting to the lack of darkness and shade from the cloth, he knew it had to come off. Mainly because he didn't like the feeling of the wet cloth on his face.
So with a shake of his head and use of his knee he slipped the cloth off and let is lay on the ground for now.
Snorting, he turned his attention back to the annoying pest of a squirrel. He wouldn't kill the thing, but that didn't mean he couldn't mess with him if he wanted to, but not for now, maybe. For now, he just wanted to rest and forget about the day. Just sit in the uncomfortable silence that would soon eat away at his patience, though it would never show.
Scuffing at the squirrel and giving a glare, the stallion steadily made his way to the bed of moss to took the offered stop. It felt weird, to share a bed with someone after so long, but he supposed it was better than standing around, or taking a spot on the hard ground.

The squirrel didn't flinch under the glare, instead he met it with his own, followed by shaking his little fist yet again. As Janus walked away, Iccarus huffed, his little cheeks puffing out. He could sense that in the future, he and this stallion would be ramming heads, in a metaphorical sense, often.
His beady red eyes bounced between the stallion's back, and the abandoned red cloth. When it seemed safe, he leaped off his perch and darted to cloth to inspect it.
Ignoring her familiar, Danari shifted and leaned against Janus. Purely for the sake of keeping warm of course. After all, they were both wet from the ran, and the temperature was sure to drop. So they would simply share body heat. There were no ulterior motive behind this action, especially not a veiled attempt at cuddling. She would never do such a thing.
She laid her head down on the soft moss, her orange eyes slipping closed. Between the warmth from Janus and the pounding of the rain outside her home, her mind began to lull into the land of sleep.

The dark stallion paid no mind at the new contact between the mare and himself. It wasn't as if the move had any underlining meaning, right? And even if it did, he knew it would never go beyond that, especially since even on civil and normal terms the two were never the "average" or "loving" pair. They were more like the pair that showed affection through harsh words, sarcasm, and your basic acts that would make others think they were more like violent and loud friends, if even that.
It was a thought to think about, would they make it back to how things used to be, would things stay tense, or would they have to part ways again?
If he were to up and leave tonight he knew very well he could never return, but he had no thoughts of leaving again, especially since there was no reason to.
Rolling his eyes at the thoughts, Janus just let it go. For now, sleep and relaxation called. And who knows, maybe the rain would just wash everything away tonight.
