“Oh, it’s all right.” He looked both crestfallen and relieved at the news. Maybe it was for the best. If there had been lions nearby he wasn’t sure if he would have fled further or tried to seek them out. He was no navigator of any sort, and he kept having the suspicion that he was actually leading himself in circles, and that the day he tried to rejoin a pride, he would find himself in the claws of his old sadistic master.
He licked his dry lips and eyed her for a nervous moment. “Do you live alone out here?”

" Yeah, I do. Sometimes I don't mind being alone but.. the rest of the time it'd be nice to have some company. You know what I mean? " Mani did get rather lonely. She was on her own, and it appeared as if this lion was all alone as well. " Loneliness is a terrible thing, eh? " Having a conversation was nice as well. Given the right subject, she could prove to be rather smart. Other subjects she didn't speak much on. Usually from lack of proper knowledge.

“I left my pride a few weeks ago,” he answered, picking his words carefully. ‘Left’ wasn’t an appropriate. ‘Fled in terror’ was a phrase likely to bring about too many questions though, questions he didn’t feel like answering. He realized in retrospect he might have been prompted with those questions already had the cheetah not been so blithely unnoticing of his queer behavior. Her cheerful ignorance was a relief though. She didn’t seem simple, simply kind and unthreatening. “I haven’t been alone much before that. I can’t say I care much for it. I don’t know how you can put up with it. It’s so…” he threw his head about, looking over the grass and only catching sight of more grass, “empty here.”

" Well, it sorta helps to have perfected zoning out. So, the days fly by, when my imagination takes over. Usually, I have some rather interesting thoughts that get brought up. " Mani said, hoping her words sounded alright. The cheetah hoped the lion knew what she was talking about, but if not, she'd be more than happy to explain. Though, Mani hoped it didn't make her sound crazy. " But, sometimes, it's not my own fault, I suppose. Not everyone is a friendly individual. " It would be nice if everyone were nicer to each other, including to hybrids. She'd heard some pretty sad stories involving them. But, individuality makes the world go round. If everyone were the same then life would be rather.. boring. And creepy.

“No, they’re not,” he sighed in agreement, settling a little more comfortably on his haunches. The healing scars on his face were evidence of the truth of her words, but luckily she hadn’t commented on them yet. The cheetah was a little strange, he thought, talking the way she did, but it was like some lions he’d met before. They usually discussed these sorts of intangible things amongst themselves. He didn’t mind it, but he’d liked his concerns as a servant being much simpler. His reality was much easier to decipher. He was either in favor or disfavor, and the punishments or rewards made that uncomplicated.
“If I were any good at it, I might stay along in a place like this, as you do. I think, though, I’d best continue west and see what I can find.” He didn’t particularly want to say a farewell to her yet – the conversation was pleasant and her company was a nice distraction from his lonely, paranoiac thoughts, but his stomach was a complaintive thing, all the more aggravated by the escaped hare a few minutes ago.

Mani had fleetingly noticed the scars but, figured it was none of her business as to how Hatari had acquired them. If he mentions the incident himself, with no prompt from her, then that was fine. And if you chooses to say nothing of it, then that's fine as well. Mani was not into the habit of prying, if someone was not willing to share. She knew that there were things that others preferred not to share with others. That's fine. Though, the dark cheetah also knew that hiding secrets deep down had some negative affect on certain individuals. There is only so much negativity that one can take before they..have an overload. That's why she hoped that those she met, would feel comfortable enough to relieve that negativity with her.
" Oh, I see. " Mani said, trying not to sound disappointed at his words. Her tail twitched, " Well, as with anything, practice makes perfect. Though perhaps, since there's two of us we could help each other out with food. " It was a little easy to notice the lion's hunger, but during the conversation, Mani had noticed her own hunger creeping up. And since there were two of them, perhaps through some sort of cooperation, they could resolve their hunger together. After all, two heads were better than one.

He looked vaguely hopeful. Mani might not have been a high ranking lion, but he’d been too hesitant to make such a proposal to her. He also hadn’t been sure if cheetahs hunted in groups. It seemed not, but he wasn’t in a position to question. “I would… like that, if you don’t mind.”

Mani smile pleasantly, " I wouldn't mind at all. " Which was true. If she had minded, the cheetah wouldn't have bothered to mention it. Sometimes no matter what you are, hunting with another was just easier. And usually raised the success bar up a notch or two. Although, she was also being friendly and trying to lend a helpful paw. She'd watched lions hunt before, and they were always in a group.

Hatari made an agreeing nod and pushed himself to his feet with more effort than was quite dignified. He was probably going to make a fool of himself in this hunt anyway. His lack of skill became apparent even when they were simply looking for prey, for he would have stumbled visibly across the plains had Mani not stopped him. The hunt was still a success though, thankfully. After Mani had chased the gembok and tripped it after an energetic chase, Hatari finally caught up and killed it by putting a death-bite on it throat. Even that was dragged out and done poorly, on account of the suffering thing getting a breath when Hatari flinched at a kick, but eventually they made their meal of the prey.
