"Hayes?" Nadja echoed and pursed her lips, gaze growing distant as she put names to faces. "Oh, yes. The mousy one."

The redhead set her coffee down and reached into her hair to adjust an earring, turning her head to the side as she did so. "How are you keeping busy in the meantime?"

"Yeah, that one." Seth confirmed as he took yet another sip of his coffee. That term described the four eyed geek quite well. But Hayes was at least competent, and that was enough to earn a small measure of respect from him.

"Generally things that do not require much physical activity. Such as reading books and playing games." Not to mention sleeping. Seth actually did a lot of that the past couple weeks. At least he was catching up on some much needed rest. He usually didn't make a habit of sleeping in and this kinda forced him to.

"Mm," Nadja acknowledged, grey eyes studying Seth through the coffee steam. "An active mind." She sounded almost approving - considerate, at least.

"Ma'am?" a voice asked, crackly with static. "Mmh." The redhead shifted sideways in her chair, finishing her sip of coffee, and reached for the Pokedex at her belt. She looked at Seth with a murmured, "Excuse me," then in a crisper tone, "Yes?"

"We've finished inspection of 5-12." The voice was young, female, nervous.

"And?"

"..one of the sample freezers is dead. 2A. The others are running, but they.." The voice hesitated. "..could use maintenance."

The redhead made an irritated 'tch' sound in the back of her throat and had another sip. "When did they last have it?"

"June," the voice grumbled, irritated in spite of itself. The elite raised a brow at the communicator. After a pause, the voice added, "..1991."

Nadja set her cup down with rather more force than necessary. "Of course." Her voice was carefully measured; the table was wobbling. "Put them on the list."

"Also.." the voice wavered.

"What now."

"We made more cookies if you'd like some."

A smile traced briefly across the elite's lips. "Thank you, Nicole. I'll be down when I'm finished here."

Nadja clicked the communicator off, let out a harried breath, and turned to face Seth again.

"I have to keep something active," Seth replied in a mutter before working on his coffee again and casting his gaze to the side. It was for his sanity's sake at the very least.

As a voice came over the speaker of Nadja's pokedex, Seth turned his attention back towards her and shamelessly eavesdropped. He continued to sip his coffee, completely unscathed as the person on the other end prattled on.

When Nadja was finally done, he finally spoke.

"You weren't joking," he said evenly, remembering how she had mentioned that the cloning department needed an overhaul. He then lifted a brow. "Cookies?"

"No; I wasn't." Now it was Nadja's turn to sound irritated.

"The base is barely a year old but the system is medieval. Last week there was an escape - outdated restraints on a Lake of Rage experiment. Three staff were sent to the infirmary and a lab needs refitting. Likely all of them do - some of the equipment must be from the original Mewtwo project."

"The legendary DNA found last month was lost thanks to 'human error,' which translates to an inability to read labels and a filing system that puts 'Rayquaza' next to 'Pidgey.'" By this point the redhead was leaning on the table with one elbow, eyes snapping with gray fire. "It's beyond ridiculous."

Brow furrowed, she rolled her eyes and had a long sip of coffee in an attempt to calm down. It didn't work.

"They're taking inventory to find any more bad equipment and access is restricted until further notice. After this there'll be inspections every month, revised security protocols, and any unauthorized person I catch down there will be roasted on a spit."

"And the cookies would be Jennifer and Nicole." Apparently Nadja preferred to be on a first name basis with most of her staff. "It's sweet of them."

Seth's brows rose as he listened, a sour look appearing on his face at mention of Lake Rage and the original Mewtwo Project. The former he was all too familiar with, but the Mewtwo Project had been before his time in the organization. Still, you would be hard pressed to find a Rocket that didn't know about it.

A snort was then issued regarding the Rayquaza and Pidgey. "I heard about that," he interjected briefly before she kept going. News tended to travel, and considering his level was just above hers, it didn't have to travel far. It was beyond ridiculous, he had to agree, but this time it wasn't his problem and he was glad for it. Still, the ordeal with the security system had been a similar thorn in his side which had now been replaced by a bullet.

Setting his coffee on the table, half empty, he leveled his gaze on Nadja as she went on about her planned improvements. She seemed to have her act together at least. He simply nodded, quietly approving of the steps she was taking.

"Sweet," he repeated, his tone sounding incredulous. "Hmph. Its not wise to get too friendly with your underlings."

"I believe it's wise to let them feel their efforts are appreciated," Nadja replied and met Seth's glowering gaze with a pleasant smile.

"They may be hoping it will get them out of one trouble or another, but I'm hardly responsible for their thoughts. And-" She sipped her coffee, the cup hiding all but her knowing, hooded eyes as she murmured, "-I'm not averse to burnt offerings."

Seth narrowed his eyes slightly. Seeming to have doubts in Nadja's opinions. Of which he was assuming was along the same lines as TRP's. The two of them chose to agree to disagree on how to handle those working under them. Although she did still sometimes chastise him on being too hard on the grunts.

However, Nadja's latter comment caused his brows to lift once more. Seth paused a moment before he sat back and chuckled lightly. "I see. How interesting."

Another sip, and as Nadja lowered her coffee cup she revealed a mouth curved in an artful shape. "That was almost a compliment," she commented as she sat back, humor in her tone.

"But back to business," the redhead continued as she settled herself in the chair, stretching her crossed legs out for a moment beneath the table. "You should arrange a meeting with Allen and myself regarding your project. How soon are you free?" The way she glanced at his side suggested this meant 'When will you be fully healed?'

Having almost forgotten his coffee, Seth smirked. That probably was the closest thing she would get to a compliment from him, at least at this point. A rare thing to be sure.

Leaning forward again, the man rested his elbows on the table. Interlacing his fingers, he rested his chin on them and peered across the way at the other elite. His brows furrowed a bit at the question and he held back a sigh.

"Depends on my progress. My stitches will come out in a few days. After that its at least a couple weeks of physical therapy."

It would probably also depend on how much physical activity she would need from him. Even after his stitches came out, the flesh would still be tender and easily torn for some time yet. Still, he had come off incredibly lucky compared to some of the others. Yet, he was already itching to get back to work. The only thing holding him back were the doctor's orders.

"Mm-hm." Nadja leaned forward, but only enough to set one elbow on the of the table and her chin upon her upturned, half-closed hand, partially mirroring Seth's posture and movement while the fingers of her other hand curled languidly around the handle of her coffee cup. "Then perhaps a month from now, if all goes well."

"Renovations should be complete by then and all the dust settled," the redheaded woman continued, and gave the other elite an appraising look. "I'd be interested to know what you think."

Seth watched her closely and lifted a brow with intrigue at Nadja's suggested timeline.

"Hm... provided there are not any more delays." He replied with a flat tone. He was also interested in how this would play out and what changes she would make to the department.

Nadja tilted her head to the side. It would be a coy movement if she was fully smiling, but the slant of her eyes lent it a questioning quality, still vaguely amused by the whole thing. Doubtful he'd admit to his own department's failings. So she asked.

"On my side or yours?"
PostPosted: Wed Jun 30, 2010 9:14 pm

At this, Seth snorted. "I would think it would be obvious."

Clearly he was not going to admit any faults on his end, and was clearly meaning Nadja's department. Especially considering her earlier lamentations about it.

He suddenly remembered his coffee and took another gulp.

The lamentations of women usually involved more wailing and fewer death threats.

"H'm." A wry smirk from the woman sitting opposite. Such a charming man.

"A month," Nadja repeated firmly. The redhead sat back and straightened up, pearls winking in her ears. She paused with her coffee almost to her lips, meeting Seth's gaze to add, "and everything will be in place." Something in her tone suggested she would make this the case. She finished her drink and set the cup down with a click, studying the fraction of liquid that rolled down the sides and collected in the bottom for a moment before she glanced back up, still with a faint, inscrutable tilt to her lips.
