If metal is in the top 5, then it's only due to the small number of genres that get played and purchased.
Pop and county artists are so far ahead in popularity it's not even worth a comparison. For example, Taylor Swift's newest album has sold at least 5 times more units than Cannibal Corpse's entire catalog. In fact, if we just go by soundscan numbers, it's sold about 14 times as many units, but I'm giving CC the benefit of assuming a lot of underground sales.
If we have the numbers: "55 42 37 35 4 3 3 2 2 2 1 1 1 1 0 0 0" calling 4 "in the top five", while technically accurate, is pretty misleading.

If I ask anyone what they listen to this is usually the order; Pop, Hip Hop, Country, Rock, and Metal. Maybe its just my area then, but it seems one out of ever five people I know likes Metal or has at least heard of quite a few Metal bands as well as Paganfest.

To be fair to the above argument, I would ask whether we're talking about metal or "metal".
I mean, Metallica's a multiplatinum band who hasn't been metal for decades, but I'm sure a majority of people would still consider them as such. Or take any of the big rock acts from the '70s and '80s. I'm sure if you asked a random sample of people whether AC/DC was metal, the overwhelming majority would answer yes. Or what about nu-metal and all the -core stuff? Again, yes.
My point is that your experience, Digi, is likely colored by being a part of the peer group in question. To use an example, you're a hell of a lot more likely to find someone who was born in Michigan in Michigan than in Thailand. Unless, of course, I'm underestimating the spectrum of different people you interact with.

I meant people in general.
Metal is Mainstream.
Metallica has sold millions upon millions of albums, so hasn't Cannibal Corpse, Slayer, Dragonforce, etc.
But the point is, Paganfest isn't anywhere close to Mayhem, or Ozzfest as a far as popularity but its a travelling festival, so that makes it popular. I've never heard of an unpopular travelling festival, and they wouldn't have had a second one if it wasn't a successful and big festival.

I do think the metal vs "metal" question is valid, but whatever. The point is I didn't expect it, since in my area there are VERY few metal heads, so I found it cool.
