"Do whatever you'd like," she replied, searching for appropriate veggies. "If you feel like cooking too, then have at it." She hadn't actually offered to cook for him after all, but since he had politely asked she had no trouble at all preparing a meal for two. Besides, he was a rider! Gabriel enjoyed helping out the riders whenever the opportunity arose.

E'lai managed to find some tubers to roast, and it was some time before the food was finally prepared and the two could sit down with heaping plates of food. "We may have made a bit too much," E'lai said, but he figured at least as far as the meat went Mossy would no doubt be grabbing bites from whomever she could get to feed her.

You like that little flitty creature more than me, don't you.
Eltimioth's mournful mental voice was almost comical--honestly he'd expected her to protest long before now. She must have been preoccupied by something else, E'lai mused.

That's not true and you know it, silly, he told her, his eyes unfocusing as riders were wont to do when speaking with their dragons.

You want one of them though!
She sounded affronted now.

I'm sure you could think of good uses to put a firelizard to,
E'lai suggested practically. It could dart off for seashells at a moment's notice, find shiny bits for you...

Maybe,
the green allowed grudgingly. E'lai could tell the idea intrigued her though.

"Perhaps just a bit," Gabriel said with a small smile, settling down to eat her portion of lunch too. "Does Eltimioth like cooked food?" She noticed E'lai's eyes go out of focus and wondered if he was talking to her right now. "Perhaps you should ask if she'd be interested. I doubt even Mossy would be able to eat all the leftover."

Mentioned flit had switched back to Gabriel's shoulder during the course of the cooking, and was currently dozing quite contently on her perch. her human was good about not moving in ways that would make her fall while she napped.

"She could probably help," E'lai confirmed. Feel like a snack? he asked his dragon.

Certainly. I would also like to meet this Candidate as well.

You know you're not allowed to speak to any of them,
he warned and he could feel Eltimioth's displeasure at the reminder of the orders imposed on her.

I can't disobey my Queen,
she said grumpily. E'lai had to chuckle slightly at her tone.

"She'll be by when we're finished," the rider added aloud as he continued to eat.

"Sounds good to me," Gabriel replied, playing it cool. Inside though she was very much excited at the prospect of being able to meet another new dragon. She hadn't been able to interact with the previous two browns very much, and she quite looked forward to meeting the supposedly chatty green. She ate her lunch just a tiny bit faster now.

Though Gabriel's efforts to play it cool were noted, E'lai could tell the girl must be excited--he remembered what it was like, after all. He ate quicker as well, because he knew Eltimioth wouldn't resist a chance to show off in a case like this and he knew she'd appreciate it if he didn't linger over food when she was waiting to make an entrance.

After they'd both eaten their fill, E'lai put the leftovers on his used plate. Ready? he asked.

Just outside the mess and looking fabulous,
the green teased. He didn't doubt it. As they headed out the mess hall, he gestured Gabriel over and swung his arm out in presentation.

"Gabriel, meet Eltimioth," he said. The green was lounging while also carefully posed to present her best features, like her forelegs with their bracelet-markings and her ringed tail curled around the rest of her, eyes whirling a contented green.

Gabriel was in a state of awe at getting to see the green up close and personal like this. "E'lai, she's gorgeous," the young teen said, the aw clear in her voice and expression as her eyes continued to take in all of the female's markings. Remembering her manners, she gave a polite bow in greeting to the dragon. "It is a pleasure to finely meet you, Eltimioth. I have heard a lot of nice things about you." She truly was a beautiful dragon. Part of her wanted to walk up and touch the smooth green hide, but she wasn't going to press her luck just yet.

Mossy let out a surprised and indignant squawk, having been rudely awoken by the bow when she nearly fell off of her human's shoulder.

"Ah, sorry, sorry," she said apologetically to the flit, embarrassed to have forgotten that Mossy was on her shoulder. She pat her gently to settle the firelizard back down.

Gabriel's praise of Eltimioth had E'lai breaking into a true grin for the first time this afternoon--he absolutely agreed with her. He was very lucky to have Eltimioth, and the green's presence in moments like this only served to remind him of that.

She better have heard only nice things,
Eltimioth said pointedly.

I may have alluded you were an attention hog, and you're only proving me right, E'lai told her with a light chuckle.

At least she does not appear to remember your rudeness, Eltimioth said with a little affronted sniff, tail twitching. She craned her neck forward to get a better look at the little firelizard. I'm prettier than it, she concluded with a whuffing noise.

There was never a competition, E'lai returned, bemused. "You can get closer if you like," he added aloud. "Eltimioth's very friendly."

Gabriel smiled and nodded at E'lai's words, pleased to be allowed to approach the green. A small part of her was slightly disappointed that she didn't hear anything, but they were only just meeting after all. Perhaps Eltimioth wasn't quite as talkative as she was made out to be. "How long have you two been together now?" she asked curiously, gently petting the green's neck.

Even Mossy was curious of her larger green cousin. She didn't leave her perch on Gabriel's shoulder, but she did give an inquisitive chirp to the other female, showing her an image of dragons flying in the sky. Likethem?

"About five years now--I Impressed at fourteen," E'lai said, moving to pat Eltimioth's side. "Most of the people in my wing Impressed older though, it doesn't really matter when you Impress." And it could be awkward, being younger--that first Flight had been something, as he was still young enough to be completely inexperienced before he Impressed and sexual activity wasn't encouraged until your dragon matured.

Eltimioth was a little bit charmed by the firelizard--she'd never "spoken" to one before (and for Eltimioth, that said something). Yes, little one, like them. But I am better looking. She felt that was something that needed to be established.

Gabriel couldn't help but grin when the rider told her how old he had been at Impression. "Heh, I'm fourteen now," she said cheerfully. "I know it doesn't matter when you Impress, but I'm hoping that this will be my lucky turn. Ya never know." The Weyrbrat wasn't really concerned with any first flight matters, aside from the fact that the other party might likely be a stranger. But hey, such things were perfectly normal around the Weyr.

The little green's eyes whirled in awe of the assertion, and she looked over the dragon admirably. Prettypretty. The admiration soon turned into question though. Sending back an image of herself (at least what she could perceive of her appearance), she seemed to ask, Iprettytoo?

"I certainly will wish you luck," E'lai said with a smile. Even if she didn't Impress this Turn, he had the feeling she was perseverant enough to not give up. That wasn't a bad trait to have at all.

Eltimioth considered the flit closely once again. You are pretty as well. But I am two pretties. She was growing rather warmly fond of the idea of a little firelizard minion the more she conversed with this one.

"Thank you," she replied happily. Persistent she certainly was, and perhaps just a tad overconfident. Even if it took until she was 21 Turns, she knew in her heart that she would be able to Impress a dragon. It was now simply a matter of playing the waiting game. The teen continued to stroke Eltimioth's neck while they spoke. "She doesn't mind the petting, right?" Gabriel asked, just wanting to make sure that the dragon wasn't growing tired of her presence. As far as she could tell though the green was rather interested in her flit.

Mossy was pleased that she was pretty too, but the dragon's words confused her. She pictured an image of two Elitimioth's standing side by side. Twopretties? seemed to be the major source of question.

"She doesn't mind at all," E'lai said with a chuckle. "She's very much a people sort of dragon." He was incredibly amused by Eltimioth's side of the conversation with the firelizard, and could guess where it was going. "It's actually caused some trouble in the past; she's had to be told she can't just talk to everyone."

No. You are pretty--I am prettypretty. Prettier. You understand?
Eltimioth was almost stern as she attempted to reason this through with the flit.

"Ah, she was told not not speak to others?" Gabriel said with a blink of surprise. Well, that explained why she hadn't heard anything from the dragon so far. It was good to know that she wasn't simply an exception to the tale of the chatty dragon (How wrong would that have been to be the only one in all the Weyr whom she refused to speak to? Seriously). "How did her being talkative cause trouble though? Doesn't that save time in communication between the riders and dragons?"

The small green trilled happily at the clarification, and she fluttered off from her seat on Gabriel's shoulder and landed atop of Eltimioth's head, making herself cozy on the new very big perch. Prettypretty. The flit sent out more images of the dragon with an admiring feeling behind them.
