Oooh. Anjali could understand that. She nodded her head, more like letting it bob up and down while she tried to think of a more eloquent reply. "I understand," she finally said. "You're lonely, no one could blame you for that." Hopefully she didn't just jab him right where he didn't want it.
She smiled when he mentioned the name thing, like really smiled. "I don't know what I could come up with that would fit, so letting it come from someone else might be better. I mean, my name does mean offering."

Jitokeza nodded but left off the conversation about the girls where it was. He wouldn't deny that, he'd pretty much said it. But it wasn't a topic he thought would make a great impression so he was happy to stay on the topic of names.
"I don't know many stories about how name quests work out but I know some of those even end with someone else giving you a name," he said, thinking of Maji in particular who had asked her brother to name her, but she wasn't the only one, "But sometimes others see things you don't, that helps."
He hesitated in his steps, looking around them. If he hadn't forgotten and things hadn't changed too much, they were almost where he was leading them.

"Ooooh, wow, really?" That was honestly interesting! She thought that they were just supposed to find it, but thinking over it again that was quite silly. And it was true, others always saw things you didn't see yourself. Especially flaws. She knew she was riddled with them, but she couldn't help herself. It was just who she was!
"Maybe it's to let them see some of the world outside before they come back. Y'know, make them a little wiser?" It made a little sense. She paused, watching him, as he seemed to want to check their surroundings for a moment. She had little idea of exactly where they were, and depended on him to know where he was going. She had faith, and would wait.

"Yeah, probably," he agreed with the idea of making the young swampies wiser, "You probably learn a lot about yourself, too. Have to take care of yourself, find creatives ways to find a name.. I don't think it's uncommon for lions to come back with mates, either."
It was all very fascinating. And as soon as he said it, he realized he might well have to deal with Faaiza or Utamu having a mate when they returned. But there was no time to worry about that now, though it might not really be anything to worry about.
"OK, I think we're here," he said after another moment's walk. They were in a very squishy bit of land and Jitokeza sank a little bit with each step he took, he rounded a couple trees and stopped at a murky pool.
"This is the best place to find frogs," he said in a hushed voice, narrowing his eyes and looking around the edges of the pool for any signs of the funny little things. The girls had liked trying to catch the frogs.

While it wasn't a sudden difference, Anjali hadn't quite realized that everything was getting more squishy and slippery until she felt herself loose her balance for just a moment. She caught herself, but the slipping sensation was disorienting. She bit down her mouth, resisting the urge to squeal in surprise as Jitokeza suddenly spoke in a hushed voice.
Hunting frogs? Well, maybe not hunting, but she guessed that he wanted her to see the frogs that lived here. Made sense that they might not always linger around where the pride's lions seemed to be most often.

While Jitokeza was well aware of how some of the pride enjoyed eating frogs, though it wasn't something he particularly cared for himself. He didn't come here intending to find a snack and he wasn't entirely convinced the girls always had had innocent intentions in chasing around the frogs but.. he did like it here.
"They're good for practicing hunting or playing games but mostly for cubs, but if you like frogs this is a good place to get them," he said, not as quietly as before. He paused when he spotted a frog sitting near the waters edge.
"There's one," he nodded, and looking around once more, "And another one." Not many were out in the open today, hm.

Anjali couldn't help herself, she made a face. A bit of a gagging face. "No offence, but I don't think I'd want to eat one," she said with a 'blech!' at the beginning. "I think they'd be a little too squishy for me, eeeg." She shook a little, and in turn that made her slip a bit, she caught herself, but not after stretching her legs out a little too far, and awkwardly. Whoops.
She gathered herself up, thought it took a moment as there wasn't really a way for her to gain a grip on the soft...mud stuff. Catching her breath, as that had made her heart race for a moment, she laughed off her slip. "Sorry."

He laughed at the sound she made, looking over at her again as she explained why she wouldn't like to eat a frog. He felt pretty much the same way about it but he liked the frogs themselves. He stepped back a bit when it looked like she was about to fall.
"You OK?" he asked, watching as she righted herself and apologized, "No, I'm with you about the frogs, I wouldn't eat them but I do like them. There weren't nearly this many frogs where I came from, that might be why." He nodded.

Anjali laughed again. She really wasn't one to giggle, but she was getting close, 'cause that was embarassing. "I think I'll live," she said, feeling a slight twinge in her limb. Probably overextended it suddenly, nothing that wouldn't get better over a bit of time.
"Okay, good. I get a little bold at times without thinking about other people's feelings, so I just hoped I hadn't jabbed you if you thought frogs were just delicious."
She took a moment to look around, noticing how a few of the frogs sure didn't like her sudden movements, and disappeared. She still saw a couple here and there, though, and they were kind of nice to look at. Especially the ones that were quiet. "Thanks for showing me," she answered quietly, a bit out of character for her.

"No, of course," he said, smiling. He would have worried about the same thing in sharing an opinion, for everything she blurted out she didn't seem like she kept things to herself. But at least she was still considerate about it.
"Oh," he said, walking back a couple steps from the water and going around the pond, aiming for some trees there, "There are some birds in around these trees, they're quite the singers but-" there were no sounds there now.
"I think morning is the best time to find them, though."

Anjali was feeling relieved that they were on a bit more stable ground now. She could still feel how sticky and wet the ground was, but she didn't feel like she was going to slip anymore. Not having to put so much focus onto her feet, she relaxed more and peeked around where Jitokeza was headed too. She tilted her head when he spoke, especially when he froze for a moment.
"Oh," was her reply, mildly disappointed. She brightened though. "Well, perhaps you'll have to show me one morning?" she smiled, hinting.

He kept walking in around the trees, the ground was firmer and he was able to walk more confidently. He kept his eyes in the trees, looking for any signs of a nest. He wasn't sure any would be occupied now but you never knew. He paused and looked back down at Anjali when she said he'd have to show her sometime in the morning, stupidly surprised that he'd managed to make a friend. Or was making a friend. Something.
"Sure," he said, smiling sheepishly and then looking back up in the trees. But he didn't have any luck finding any of the nests- and he couldn't see any of the birds.
"Guess now really isn't a good time to see anything here," he commented.

He didn't seem too successful, but with his comment she understood. Some animals were so fickle about where they wanted to be at certain times of the day. They would probably return later, and honestly, Anjali didn't want to sit here and wait the whole day. There were more fun things to do, like more lions to talk to!
"Great! We can figure out a good day that works, then, and plan it." It sounded like fun! A little mini-adventure, even if she wasn't young anymore.

He turned around to face her now that he'd given up on finding anything else here, he didn't really have any more interesting places in mind. He didn't imagine she'd want to follow him around all day anyway.
"Hm, if you're not busy, I don't see why it would have to wait very long," he said thoughtfully, he didn't really have a full schedule outside of hunting, he was alone here now, "Next morning it's not raining would be fine with me." The birds didn't care for the rain so much, but there would probably be more frogs if it was raining.

Anjali was a little surprised that he had offered tomorrow morning as an idea. And flattered, as well. Maybe she wasn't as overwhelming as she thought she was, or perhaps he was just really kind. Or. though she did not know if she should wish it, a bit of both.
"I would love to do that," she said with a bright smile. "Hopefully it won't rain."
She paused, glancing around for a moment. "Well, perhaps we should go back for a bit? I'm...I'm afraid I'd get lost if we parted ways here."
