"I'm sure you could if you wanted to," She remarked smartly to Calcifer. Sophie snickered at her husband last time before sobering up. He really was trying, so she figured she could lend him a hand. "Do as he says, Deirdre. Howl's a wizard and he might show you something really cool if you let go."
The toddler seemed torn, though she reluctantly let go and stepped back. She looked up at him impatiently.
Adrian hefted Leyla back up into a better position with a smile. She truly had no idea what kind of a monster he was, but better she think him kind than a demon. "Wasn't this normal for him though, in the book? My sister read to Sophie from the tome and it talked about his ability to charm girls. It's a wonder Sophie isn't like Deirdre now."
Not that he wanted his own daughter to look stupid infront of that boy, but it couldn't be helped. For now, he stood back and watched.

"Probably," Calcifer agreed, always one to boast of his abilities. "I wouldn't want to, though. Sophie, did you have to help him? I wanted to watch him struggle."
Howl gave a sigh of relief when he was released; true, once he would have been amused, once he would have strived to get a girl's attention--Something cool, hm? The wizard thought about it. What would a toddler like? Toys falling from the sky? Fireworks? The ability to fly? Somehow, he didn't think Sophie would thank him if he did any of these. He gave a flick of his hand, and summoned a teddy bear. "Here," he said, offering it to her. "For you." Before she could react, he went to Sophie's side.
"I think I can catch enough fireflies holding your hand," he said. With a flick of the hand, he held out a rose. "We missed our anniversery," he explained.
Leyla leaned against Adrian, yawning. Despite her fangs, she was still a creature of the day. "Sleepy..." she muttered.
Zee shook his head. "You haven't read it well enough," he said. "Howl stopped trying to attract girls once he had fallen for Sophie--and he must have fallen hard, to love her even without his heart. I've only seen him go after girls once the entire time I've known him--right after he forgot who Sophie was."

Deirdre extended her claws to make a hammock for the bear to fall in and when she brought it to her chest, a little flash of childish spark lit her face. She smiled and coddled it with the jar of fireflies. "T'ank you, How-owl." The toddler curtsied and turned round to show her father what she had.
Sophie held her hand out to play with the tips of Calcifer's flames. "You always want to watch him struggle. Find a new hobby, Calcifer."
She tucked a chunk of hair behind her ear, flushing a little as her husband came up to her side. Sometimes he infuriated her, and then things happened where she felt like the luckiest girl on the planet. Sophie took his hand, coiling her arm around it to stand close as she took the rose. "Oh Howl." She sniffed it. "I didn't even remember it..."
Not that she had forgotten, it just...slipped out, with a bunch of other memories and dates. Half the time she couldn't even remember what her sisters looked like.
Adrian coddled Leyla, and when his own daughter ran up to him, he placed a hand on her head to play with her hair. "Oh no, I've read it. You just misunderstand." And really, he wasn't prepared to go into detail. Hunger was starting to spread in him. "Deirdre, are you ready to go have breakfast?"
The toddler frowned. "Nuh uh. Wanna stay, plus, look." She pointed to the canoodling couple.

"It's the most enjoyable hobby there is," Calcifer argued. Short of taunting Michael, that was.
"I remembered it for the both of us," Howl assured her, smiling at their hands. "June twenty first, Midsummer's day." Of course, their "anniversery" was when Sophie'd given him back his heart. He didn't remember their real one. "You want to catch fireflies?" he asked. Silently he thought he would much rather stand there, with her.
Zee raised an eyebrow. "You really don't like him, do you?" he asked, in a mild tone. "His ability doesn't affect Sophie like it does other girls. You've read it; she talked herself into remaining an old woman to keep him from her," he lowered his voice once he noticed Leyla was falling asleep. "Besides, I think she as much charmed him as he did her."
