Kaiya listened to the usdia mare, pleased to have a few quiet moments to socialize and befriend. It wasn't often she met other mothers, much less those that were so happy to speak of their brood! It was a delightful change from the solitude she often walked, or the danger she had to place herself in while she sought out those to redeem.
Kaiya couldn't help but chuckle at the implication of Quagga's possible activities. "Boys will be boys, no matter how old they grow. Still, it must be nice to at least know they're somewhere in the neighborhood. The world is such a large place, when one roams far the distance can be painful." She would admit that much, at the very least. "The worries of a mother never end, even when ones children are long since grown." She worried about Galahad, Terentia, and Sirian. They all had their own lives now, were all away from her. It didn't help she herself had taken up the life of a rogue once more, but i was necessary. She couldn't quit her duties, even if sometimes her heart was strained.
"It isn't an ideal situation, I will agree with that. I miss them all, greatly, but I do try to visit whenever my duties bring me close to their homes. They have their own lives, and two of them have families all their own." Terentia hadn't even given her word of her mate or pregnancy - Kaiya had heard through the grapevine. Furthermore, both Galahad and Terentia had blood-ties to others, and Kaiya never wished to intrude.
It was a complicated set of affairs, but the angeni didn't begrudge any of her children their happiness. She wouldn't force herself on their lives, especially if they weren't much interested in her being a part of it any longer. But she'd always love them, no matter what.

Esta hemmed and hawed and agreed with Kaiya about boys. But she watched the larger mare as the other discussed how she missed her adopted children. Her green eyes didn't miss the saddened expression that followed the angeni's words.
"I hope your children know and appreciate the mother that raised them," she spoke quietly. She hoped she'd conveyed the same thing to her own brood - but she'd never know if they didn't tell her.
The usdia also wondered what Kaiya meant by "duties." It was an interesting word, and one that implied as much commitment as motherhood. An interesting conflict.
"Duties?" she repeated, the question in her tone. She wouldn't try to force the other to answer, and so merely requested some kind of elaboration.

Kaiya gave a small smile at the mare, glad to hear such words. "Oh, I like to think they do. I understand though, that life can sometimes be a great distraction. I hope your children feel and think the same." It wasn't easy being a mother, and sometimes a child didn't realize the love they felt until it was too late to give it.
Love was something that she encouraged her children to express, to one another and herself. Se wanted them to know that there was no shame in feeling, or admitting such things to others. For even if a heart was cold or cruel and rejected such ideas, love was a powerful thing and something everyone deserved.
Hate was strong, but love was stronger. Even if it often accompanied heart break and tears.
Kaiya's headwings lifted a bit before she chuckled again and nodded. "I am often travelling new areas, wandering the world in the name of my duties. I am the angeni of Redemption, and as such, I try to make myself available to as many soquili that I can discover. I offer peace to the restless and heartbroken souls, forgiveness to those that bear guilt, and most importantly, try to save those that are lost and without a way out. I try to redeem those that have turned away from good, to give them hope, to offer them options. Needless to say, they rarely accept my presence and certainly don't take kindly to my preaching but . . . There are those that are receptive to a new perspective." It was a small summary of many things she did. She didn't solely seek out those that were blatantly evil, as every soquili had shadows that needed to be lifted. "I also do a bit of healing, when I can, and keep myself open to assisting others. It's a busy lifestyle, and part of the reason I'm kept away from my children longer than I prefer."

"I can only hope," the white mare replied with a grin. Children never admitted anything to a parent unless if they were hopelessly entangled in the situation - a memory of Quia and a human's forgotten net came to mind - and so a parent would have to bail them out once more.
But Esta's reflection on children was shunted to the side as Kaiya described her duties and revealed she was angeni of Redemption. It was a fascinating concept and a side of the whole breed that she'd never even been aware of. She wondered what would happen if Kaiya managed to redeem a skinwalker. Would a cursed skinwalker be returned to the Soquili they once were? Or were they, by their "new" nature, so utterly the opposite of an angeni that Kaiya would destroy them before redeeming them?
It was an interesting line of thought. Pity she couldn't dare ask the other mare about it. That would be unforgivably rude and selfish.

The angeni was glad to make the acquaintance of this lovely usdia. She'd known of their existence, and had even spotted some in passing during her travels. Unfortunately though, she hadn't had the opportunity to meet one for discussion, and was quite pleased that the spirits had introduced her to Esta! It was good to meet the mare, and she was glad to be in such good company with another mother, someone who could relate.
Giving her wings a stretch, Kaiya didn't feel uncomfortable when a silence grew. She took a moment to look around the natural beauty that surrounded them, before turning back to Esta. "Seeing as I am unfamiliar with this area, you wouldn't happen to know of a stream or lake nearby, would you? I'm afraid I'm a bit parched, and could likely stand to find an area to reside in during my stay." Furthermore, every creature needed water of some sort, no matter how kind or cruel they might be. Even the darkest of dark creatures suffered dehydration, and she knew if she lingered near the water new doors and opportunities would open to her, and new souls could someday be saved.

Esta's dark thoughts were grateful once again to the angeni for changing the subject. "As it so happens, there's a lake just to the south of this part of the forest," she told Kaiya. "It's clear and sweet and one of the major landmarks in the area."
The usdia cocked her head. "I suppose we might be able to meet again, by the lake, eh?" She really liked the angeni and looked forward to developing a real friendship with the other mare. Being able to see her again, though, was a big part of process.

Kaiya looked down at the usdia, a bright smile lighting her features. Truly, the mare was delighted that there was a water source nearby and was even more thrilled that Esta had mentioned meeting again. Kaiya was a bit rusty when it came to making lasting bonds; so frequently she was forcing herself upon others or being pushed away because of her duties. But she liked the pale mare before her, and looked forward to seeing her again.
"I would very much like to meet you again. I intend to linger in the area for some time, and the lake seems as good a spot to reside near. Feel free to seek me out whenever you have a moment, and perhaps I may be able to do the same to you, if that's all right." She didn't want to crowd the mare, or interrupt her family and life. But she also didn't want Esta to think that she had to constantly seek out the angeni.
Friendship was a two-way path, after all.
Dipping her head, the duel-toned female gave another smile. "Well then, Esta. I shall not keep you any longer, and do hope you have a most pleasant rest of your day. With luck I will see you soon." And with that, the angeni picked her way towards the direction of the lake, eager for a drink and a place to settle. The spirits truly had blessed her this day, and for that she was entirely grateful.

The smaller mare chuckled. "You may not want to stay too close to the lake, the young colts and fillies get rowdy," she warned before turning and heading in the opposite direction and back the way she'd come.
Truly a good day overall. Esta was happy that an Angeni would now be living in the area - it was one more layer of protection against a Skinwalker incursion. And to get a friend out of it in the bargain...that was the absolute best part of all.
